Once again, there was a minimal amount of new injuries over the weekend’s matches for Fantasy managers to fret over, with Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino playing down concerns after withdrawing Harry Kane and John Terry respectively. Steve McClaren is a manager with worries, however, with injuries in midfield, while his first choice right-back will miss their Gameweek 3 trip to Old Trafford through suspension.

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho denied John Terry picked up an injury in today’s loss at City after being subbed off at the break. Perhaps tellingly, this was the first time in Terry’s career under Mourinho that he had been replaced mid-match, with the Blues boss explaining:

“No [he was not injured], it was a decision I made. I know that Zouma is the fastest in the squad, and in that moment Manchester City were playing on the counter attack. Zouma is different than John, and my decision was proved right as Zouma was in complete control. I left him out because tactically we needed to make a change, and I was proven right as we controlled the game in the second half.”

Mourinho also stated post-match than Oscar, who missed the Etihad trip, remains a doubt for the Gameweek 3 trip to West Brom…

“Oscar’s injury isn’t a big one but it stops him from playing today and probably next week”

Leicester City
Back-up stopper Mark Schwarzer missed yesterday’s win at West Ham due to illness, the club’s official twitter feed confirmed.

Newcastle
Steve McClaren has concerns in midfield for the trip to United after Moussa Sissoko was withdrawn at the break against Swansea due to a groin problem. The Magpies boss also explained Siem de Jong’s weekend absence:

“We lost a big player in Moussa. We don’t know the seriousness of it yet…We think it (De Jong injury) is just a kick on the shin which flared up. He nearly made it (in time) but unfortunately didn’t (but) it should not be too bad.”

Sissoko has since tweeted on his injury, confirming an adductor problem.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino played down his second-half withdrawal of Harry Kane in yesterday’s draw with Stoke. The Spurs boss confirmed Kane’s problem was no more than cramp, having started training a little late due to his Euro U21 exertions with England:

“Harry was very tired and had some cramps in his calf, so to take the risk with the score at 2-0, I didn’t think it was a problem to take him off. He came later in pre-season and it is normal. He is better but he needs time to arrive. We knew before the end of last season Harry Kane would play a lot and the consequences you can see now. This is the truth, at 2-0, after 65 minutes, I think it was enough for him. We don’t take risks with his body”.

Swansea
Garry Monk remains optimistic that Ki Sung-Yeung will return to action for next week’s trip to Sunderland. The Swans boss refused to take any chances with the South Korean at home to Newcastle, after he was forced off with a hamstring injury away to Chelsea last week:

“It wasn’t really [right] to take the risk with him. Of course he’s pushing to play, but I think we’ll give him that little bit more time. He’ll be back in training next week ready for the Sunderland game.”

Suspensions

Newcastle are set to be without Daryl Janmaat for the trip to United after the right-back received his marching order for picking up two yellow cards away to Swansea. Discussing his upcoming absence, the Dutchman – who was booked on both occasions for incidents involving Jefferson Montero – owned up to his Liberty folly:

“I’m very disappointed. It was stupid of me and I have to apologise to my team-mates, the supporters and everybody, because trying to win a game with ten men is very difficult. The first yellow card was clear. The second one, I lost the ball, he (Montero) ran past me and in a split-second I touched him. I pulled him back and that was stupid.”

West Ham are set to be without Adrian for the next three league matches after the Spaniard’s weekend dismissal at home to Leicester. Dismissed for serious foul play after an incident with Jamie Vardy, the Hammers keeper will miss clashes against Bournemouth, Liverpool and Newcastle before returning to action in Gameweek 6 away to Man City. Darren Randolph (4.5) is set to deputise in his absence.

Current Team... (2 Free Transfers) What to Do?

    Ruddy / Rudd

    Alderweid / Richards / Francis / Cedric / Huth

    Hazard / Ozil / Sterlng / Mahrez / Berry

    Aguero / Rooney / Wilson

    My thinking
    1. Sterling playing well on flank and its giving more space to Silva...!
    2. Just want to get rid of Rooney.
    3. Wilson fixtures are good.
    4. Want to get Payet from start but didn't and now 0.1 rise is not affordable.
    5. Barkley/Lukaku is good but horrible fixtures.
    6. Depay is trying hard... He will come good for sure.

Rooney > Gomis and Sterling > Silva is the way to go.

I have Sanchez and Ozil for now so that solves that dilemma for me.

Morning guys.. hopefully the panic has gone down a bit on here. Twas really bad last night.. anyway

    Schmeichel 4.0
    Merte Huth Muniesa Targett COATES
    Hazard Chadli Ozil Shelvey Mahrez
    ROONEY Sakho Aguero
    0.5 in the bank
    1 FT
Pretty happy with my midfield and forward line(Rooney HAS to go next week though!) but my defense is a bit weak and Coates is gonna drop so should probably be my priority. SO, how does Coates to Williams sound?
Could do Hazard to Sanchez but i'm not sure it's worth it since i can afford Sanchez in for one of my mids next week with a Rooney downgrade.

For sure! I don't think he looks as flaky defensively lately. He gives them such a cutting edge on that left hand side and Clichy just isn't very good. I think the rotation will be less common this year

I'm surprised to find myself in the category of managers with 2FT playing their WCs.

I'm a conservative manager by nature and don't go with the herds.

That said, cooly and carefully looking at the number of changes I would make now and the likely net loss of TV if I hesitate it seems like the logical choice.

I'm using past experience as my guide here because previously I have held on to WC only to find it of negligible value and basically being obliged to play it. I didn't set out with a pre-determined plan to play it but I think it all stacks up.

A lot of folks seem keen to imply a failure to play it as this point but I am happy to run my own race and do what suits my position and feelings about it.

        I have.

I made my initial 2FTs which were Kane -> Gomis and reluctantly Roo -> Aguero. Would have happily held Wayne for Mewcastle.

To work in Silva and Sanchez which I would like to do I would require a -16.

I support your view that in most cases your team can look like a WC team with a -12 which actually makes me more comfortable playing my WC now because I can play a -12 anytime I like during the season.

Adjusting my team whilst always looking ahead I should never go beyond that at other times because the sheer amount of information + returning players is unlikely to be replicated further in.

        Does this make sense?

Yeah, that's my opinion. I feel like I can gradually evolve after just giving things a jolt now.

I always look ahead so I don't think I'm ever likely to be in a position of needing anything beyond a -12

Regarding Kolarov.. Why do City fans hate him so much(Sure there'll be glowing reviews about him after yesterday.. but in general they hate him on their forums)? Every season they talk about getting rid of him as part of the deadwood. And whenever i've seen him play he looks like the best crosser in the league and is the best set piece taker they have. Not soooooo bad at defending either.. and his attacking contributions defo make up for it.
Still they want to get rid every season.. and want him dropped every week.. Strange

I recall having a debate with NickFromOz about the nailedonness of Kolarov a few weeks into last season. I was arguing Clichy would seriously harm his gametime and he thought Kolarov would play most games. I'm sensing de ja vu in the discussion tonight. 🙂

What are your thoughts on Kolarov now? worth the gamble?

Pretty much summed up in my reply to Innsie above. I really want to gamble, but the Walcott experience is so raw it's putting me off... for tonight at least... tomorrow might be a different story. 🙂 I fear it is a transfer waiting to happen and with so much movement in these early weeks do i need to be adding another potential element of uncertainty into my side...

...but when he plays he can be gold

...but will it ultimately be fools gold?

It does seem like a Walcott waiting to happen. I guess at 5.5 though its a risk we could potentially afford, unlike 9.0

That's true. At least I can fashion a defence that can cope with him missing a week here and there. With 3-4-3 there's less leeway in midfield. Plus his points scoring is such that even if I do ultimately have to take a hit to get him out he may have more than paid for himself in the meantime.

Been offline for half of today, madness I know.

Is the consensus pick Yaya or Silva for us WCers?

Sorry if this question has already been done to death

Basically up to you - for me its yaya because he looks more like a goal threat atm and I can use the saved funds

Huth or if you have the 0.1 I would go for Gomez

I probably won't get Gomez sorry as I already have Mignolet in goals

First 2 GWs say Palace, Norwich and Watford 4.5ers. I'd edge towards Leicester myself. Having said that my draft WC squad currently contains Richards and Martin!

Any idea of the likely return date of Ben Foster? Wondering what the Myhill's security is like

Haven't heard on Foster, but then this whole Marshall thing came up also, so who really knows.

Sorry to be asking again but what are people's thoughts?
