Once again, there was a minimal amount of new injuries over the weekend’s matches for Fantasy managers to fret over, with Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino playing down concerns after withdrawing Harry Kane and John Terry respectively. Steve McClaren is a manager with worries, however, with injuries in midfield, while his first choice right-back will miss their Gameweek 3 trip to Old Trafford through suspension.

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho denied John Terry picked up an injury in today’s loss at City after being subbed off at the break. Perhaps tellingly, this was the first time in Terry’s career under Mourinho that he had been replaced mid-match, with the Blues boss explaining:

“No [he was not injured], it was a decision I made. I know that Zouma is the fastest in the squad, and in that moment Manchester City were playing on the counter attack. Zouma is different than John, and my decision was proved right as Zouma was in complete control. I left him out because tactically we needed to make a change, and I was proven right as we controlled the game in the second half.”

Mourinho also stated post-match than Oscar, who missed the Etihad trip, remains a doubt for the Gameweek 3 trip to West Brom…

“Oscar’s injury isn’t a big one but it stops him from playing today and probably next week”

Leicester City
Back-up stopper Mark Schwarzer missed yesterday’s win at West Ham due to illness, the club’s official twitter feed confirmed.

Newcastle
Steve McClaren has concerns in midfield for the trip to United after Moussa Sissoko was withdrawn at the break against Swansea due to a groin problem. The Magpies boss also explained Siem de Jong’s weekend absence:

“We lost a big player in Moussa. We don’t know the seriousness of it yet…We think it (De Jong injury) is just a kick on the shin which flared up. He nearly made it (in time) but unfortunately didn’t (but) it should not be too bad.”

Sissoko has since tweeted on his injury, confirming an adductor problem.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino played down his second-half withdrawal of Harry Kane in yesterday’s draw with Stoke. The Spurs boss confirmed Kane’s problem was no more than cramp, having started training a little late due to his Euro U21 exertions with England:

“Harry was very tired and had some cramps in his calf, so to take the risk with the score at 2-0, I didn’t think it was a problem to take him off. He came later in pre-season and it is normal. He is better but he needs time to arrive. We knew before the end of last season Harry Kane would play a lot and the consequences you can see now. This is the truth, at 2-0, after 65 minutes, I think it was enough for him. We don’t take risks with his body”.

Swansea
Garry Monk remains optimistic that Ki Sung-Yeung will return to action for next week’s trip to Sunderland. The Swans boss refused to take any chances with the South Korean at home to Newcastle, after he was forced off with a hamstring injury away to Chelsea last week:

“It wasn’t really [right] to take the risk with him. Of course he’s pushing to play, but I think we’ll give him that little bit more time. He’ll be back in training next week ready for the Sunderland game.”

Suspensions

Newcastle are set to be without Daryl Janmaat for the trip to United after the right-back received his marching order for picking up two yellow cards away to Swansea. Discussing his upcoming absence, the Dutchman – who was booked on both occasions for incidents involving Jefferson Montero – owned up to his Liberty folly:

“I’m very disappointed. It was stupid of me and I have to apologise to my team-mates, the supporters and everybody, because trying to win a game with ten men is very difficult. The first yellow card was clear. The second one, I lost the ball, he (Montero) ran past me and in a split-second I touched him. I pulled him back and that was stupid.”

West Ham are set to be without Adrian for the next three league matches after the Spaniard’s weekend dismissal at home to Leicester. Dismissed for serious foul play after an incident with Jamie Vardy, the Hammers keeper will miss clashes against Bournemouth, Liverpool and Newcastle before returning to action in Gameweek 6 away to Man City. Darren Randolph (4.5) is set to deputise in his absence.

Ighalo is 1.5 cheaper and has had more shots in his first full game than Sakho. That being said you could go either way but I like that extra money you save which could be the difference from having a David Silva in midfield over a Walcott.

Well with a disastrous first 2 GWs, I've joined the throng and played my WC earlier than I'd intended. Looking through this thread my squad looks VERY FFS templatey - which is quite different to the FPL template. I doubt there are any surprises but I'd appreciate a comment or two:

Fabby (MCCarthy) [Mignolet could persuade me tonight]
    Darmian, Kolorov, Gomez, Huth, Richards
    Sanchez, Yaya, Ayew, Payet, Mahrez
    Aguero, Gomis, Vardy

So, 3 City is surely justifiable (as, I think are 0 Chelsea, one Arse and one ManU), but 3 Swans and 3 Foxes seems crazy but they are great value at the mo. What do you think or suggest?? 🙂

Doubling on Swansea and Leicester attack is too much IMO, can you find cash to upgrade Ayew to Mane?

everyone getting rid of manes annoying me. if his dropping in price is that a reason to get rid? im thinking ill just keep faith and keep ignoring mahrez.. annoying but dont really want to get rid of any of these mids (mane sanchez payet silva (westwood bench cover).. still had a great gw 56 with gomez to play

mahrez do look good though, I got him this week (but that is for walcott)
if mane still don't produce the coming week, I think my patient is up for him. Pelle looks way more threatening than him as well.
but then again I also have fabregas, so I have more urgent issues to take care of

    Just seen the price changes...

Aguero didn't go up, Mings didn't fall. Woo hoo.

Seems like there's going to be a lot of inaccuracy in the 'Wildcard moves' vs the normal transfers.

My team for next week after making two transfers:
    Ruddy Bellerin, Huth, Williams
    Hazard(v), Shelvey, Coutinho, Payet
    Rooney(C), Pelle, Sakho
    Bench: Stekelenburg, Mahrez, Coates, Francis
3.5 in the bank. Sticking to my plan to buy Sergio for GW4. Is keepeing Coates, Francis, Rooney and Hazard in my team and allowing them to fall in price a SUICIDE move?

Looks pretty similar to everyone else's who are on their WC. I'll put more effort into it later in the week.

And no Gomez isn't nailed, but I think he's first choice for now and should be safe for a few weeks atleast.

wouldn't have both. Gomez is a transfer waiting to happen. There will be games where Kolarov sits out completely, so probably have a decent enough nailed on 4.5 that will come on in his place.

I actually think Kolarov is first choice now. He played the majority of games towards the end of last season even when Clichy was fit and he's in great form atm. Also, Clichy often played in the harder games last season as he's better defensively and has more pace to deal with tricky wingers, yet Kolarov started against Chelsea with Clichy on the bench. I'm not saying he'll start every game as the odd rotation is inevitable with him, but with 3 or 4 nailed on defenders alongside him, it won't be the end of the world when/if he gets rotated now and then. His upside is huge.

Indeed, already screwed that up once by getting Panti-4m as my keepers so I don't want to make a similar mistake again. No room for Hazard I think, Sanchez and Silva look better options. You going without him too?

GK's and Hazard is a ball breaker to be honest. I have no idea. I hate watching games if I don't own Hazard/Kun.

Yes, Yaya/Silva look immense though and Chelsea look disjointed, especially Costa. Red card waiting to happen.

Yaya was much better for FPL than Silva yesterday imo - Silva ran the show, but didn't have a shot on goal. Yaya was back to his old self, charging into the box and shooting at every possibility.

I'm trying to fit in Aguero, Sanchez, Hazard and Yaya, but it's proving to be difficult!

Yaya could easily have scored again when Kun played the ball to him across the box. So much power without even really swinging through with his shot.

I can't believe how infuriating .1 price changes can screw up plans. I am just out of touch with 5 players I would consider to improve my squad.
I always wanted Cabaye and fixture deterred me. gomis was a consideration but adopted a wait and see attitude as with Company, Darmian and Mahrez.
Every strategy I liiok at leaves me that all important .1 shy.
Anyone else feel the same way?

Having a great week so far so not going to mind taking a hit.

    Stekel
    Darmian Alderweireld Gomez (Francis Oxford)
    Mane Silva Sanchez Payet (westwood)
    Aguero Sahko Gomis

Would you do this? (catch prise rises and avoid drops + strengthen defence)
    Mane > Mahrez

    Ruddy
    Azpi, Koscienly, Williams
    Silva, Ozil, Payet(C), Chadli, Fletcher
    Rooney, Pelle, Sakho

    Butland, Fletcher, Huth, Targett

I would gladly have kept Rooney but price movement meant I had to hop on for free. Plus I would be captaining Aguero so it works for me. (have a bad feeling it will turn out like my previous 2 captains).

If you're planning on Payet(c) and it would be for a hit...I understand why you won't be hopping on.

      2. Jøssy ⭐

You know the answer to this...

        - You sell Walcott now, you sell him for 8.9M.
        - You replace him with on of the many 8.5M midfielders
        - You now have 0.4M in the bank rather than 0.5M
        - If you now what to upgrade your 5.5M midfielder to a 6.0M you can't
        - If there is a 5.9M midfielder, it's likely because everyone has decided he's a bad buy

If you take 2 or 3 more price drops this can completely limit your spending power that this crucial early stage of the season. I'm very passionate about this.

Granted, you can always find some value lower down the price range, and it may work out better, but you're limiting your options.

Gomez (up till now) and Kolarov have been my only "out of the box" successes so far. I had a flood of advice from this site to steer clear. If I have a 50/50 change to make I favour potential price rises. However, I failed dismally at that too.

      Lessons learned, I agree.

Nailed on players are way to go, that's why I'm sruggling with Kolarov.

I will say though that you can have decent cheap backups in defence and doesn't cost 9m like Theo !!!

You can indeed. Kolarov and Gomez are the main two culprits I'm seeing.

If both get dropped in 2GWs and an injury or two happen... And maybe a couple of your attackers are falling in value....

        You'll want yet another wildcard.
