Once again, there was a minimal amount of new injuries over the weekend’s matches for Fantasy managers to fret over, with Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino playing down concerns after withdrawing Harry Kane and John Terry respectively. Steve McClaren is a manager with worries, however, with injuries in midfield, while his first choice right-back will miss their Gameweek 3 trip to Old Trafford through suspension.

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho denied John Terry picked up an injury in today’s loss at City after being subbed off at the break. Perhaps tellingly, this was the first time in Terry’s career under Mourinho that he had been replaced mid-match, with the Blues boss explaining:

“No [he was not injured], it was a decision I made. I know that Zouma is the fastest in the squad, and in that moment Manchester City were playing on the counter attack. Zouma is different than John, and my decision was proved right as Zouma was in complete control. I left him out because tactically we needed to make a change, and I was proven right as we controlled the game in the second half.”

Mourinho also stated post-match than Oscar, who missed the Etihad trip, remains a doubt for the Gameweek 3 trip to West Brom…

“Oscar’s injury isn’t a big one but it stops him from playing today and probably next week”

Leicester City
Back-up stopper Mark Schwarzer missed yesterday’s win at West Ham due to illness, the club’s official twitter feed confirmed.

Newcastle
Steve McClaren has concerns in midfield for the trip to United after Moussa Sissoko was withdrawn at the break against Swansea due to a groin problem. The Magpies boss also explained Siem de Jong’s weekend absence:

“We lost a big player in Moussa. We don’t know the seriousness of it yet…We think it (De Jong injury) is just a kick on the shin which flared up. He nearly made it (in time) but unfortunately didn’t (but) it should not be too bad.”

Sissoko has since tweeted on his injury, confirming an adductor problem.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino played down his second-half withdrawal of Harry Kane in yesterday’s draw with Stoke. The Spurs boss confirmed Kane’s problem was no more than cramp, having started training a little late due to his Euro U21 exertions with England:

“Harry was very tired and had some cramps in his calf, so to take the risk with the score at 2-0, I didn’t think it was a problem to take him off. He came later in pre-season and it is normal. He is better but he needs time to arrive. We knew before the end of last season Harry Kane would play a lot and the consequences you can see now. This is the truth, at 2-0, after 65 minutes, I think it was enough for him. We don’t take risks with his body”.

Swansea
Garry Monk remains optimistic that Ki Sung-Yeung will return to action for next week’s trip to Sunderland. The Swans boss refused to take any chances with the South Korean at home to Newcastle, after he was forced off with a hamstring injury away to Chelsea last week:

“It wasn’t really [right] to take the risk with him. Of course he’s pushing to play, but I think we’ll give him that little bit more time. He’ll be back in training next week ready for the Sunderland game.”

Suspensions

Newcastle are set to be without Daryl Janmaat for the trip to United after the right-back received his marching order for picking up two yellow cards away to Swansea. Discussing his upcoming absence, the Dutchman – who was booked on both occasions for incidents involving Jefferson Montero – owned up to his Liberty folly:

“I’m very disappointed. It was stupid of me and I have to apologise to my team-mates, the supporters and everybody, because trying to win a game with ten men is very difficult. The first yellow card was clear. The second one, I lost the ball, he (Montero) ran past me and in a split-second I touched him. I pulled him back and that was stupid.”

West Ham are set to be without Adrian for the next three league matches after the Spaniard’s weekend dismissal at home to Leicester. Dismissed for serious foul play after an incident with Jamie Vardy, the Hammers keeper will miss clashes against Bournemouth, Liverpool and Newcastle before returning to action in Gameweek 6 away to Man City. Darren Randolph (4.5) is set to deputise in his absence.

No one would be surprised if they went on a run of winning games now.. They were still the best team in the EPL uptil 2 weeks ago 🙂 .. Mourinho will work some magic after their poor opening performances. a sample size of 2 games is always too small to make long term decisions

Given the hot topic what sort of team would people aim for on a wildcard?

Apart from the obvious such as Aguero and Sanchez which performers so far would you get in? Ayew, Gomis, Mahrez etc?

And which blankers would you keep? I'm still tempted by Mane who seems to be firing in shots form everywhere and it seems folly to get rid of Hazard.

I've played mine and Mane is indeed the only scoreless player I am considering keeping. All depends on this evenings fixture whether he or Benteke get the nod.

Considering Sakho as well but both Hazard and Mane have the potential to make the wildcard be counter-productive!

    Pantilimon - McCarthy

Darmian - Cedric - Alderweireld (Gomez, Darmian)

Hazard - Sanchez - Mane - Mahrez (Westwood)

    Aguero - Gomis - Sakho

    Courtois Butland

    Kompany Darmian Gomez Martin Francis

    Sanchez Silva Payet Mahrez Westwood

If you invest in a top keeper like Courtois, I can't really see the need for a playing 2nd keeper. Think the 0,5 will do better use in the bank/on the field.

Also which two would you pick out of Kolarov Bellerin and Azpi. It's really hard because City won't be keeping clean sheets for ever and Clichy will be back soon. They haven't kept a clean sheet against Everton away since they've been in the Prem I don't think. Whereas surely Chelsea and Arsenal will start keeping clean sheets soon.

This place is just crazy at the moment with all the WCs, it's almost as bad as it was before the start of the season! I can't be the only one that thinks all the people who are wild carding now will be desperately trying to figure out how to get Hazard etc back in after a couple of weeks?

Sure it's been a topsy turvey start to the season, but it's pretty much the same for everyone, most the people in the top 10k - even the top 100k - now won't be there come the end of the season.

I agree with this, I just picked Haz as an example, I started the season with out him. You can't have them all.

But the big names will return to form soon enough, that's why they are big names. I just feel people are setting themselves up for a lot of pain in the coming weeks.

I took a -8pts hit instead... My team is as below now:

      Ruddy l Rudd

      Kosc l Jenko l Willians l Huth l Francis

      Hazard l Silva l Ayew l Chadli l Fletcher

      Aguero l Diouf l Sakho

I just don't think I want hazard this season (he is expensive as hell and I'd rather have two big hitter than hazard and an average player) and all the other decent players in the game are available to pick.

Again I agree, that's why he wasn't in my team from the start. I picked Ozil instead then, to my shame knee jerked him out after their first game ; )

@Lucy. Any worries that Saints might rotate for the games against Watford and Norwich in between EL games?

Currently holding Mane ONLY because of those fixtures but having been shafted by Walcott (twice!) I'm reluctant to have anyone who may suffer rotation in the front 7

Mane is Southampton's key player and they only have 1 point. He'll start every game IMO. Tadic is the player under threat of being dropped.

        Key player? I'd argue otherwise.

I worded that wrongly, I mean key player going forward especially from a fantasy point of view. He should have scored in both games. Southampton are going to struggle big time with Europa League. Toby and Morgan huge losses and they need claase and bertrand back desperately.

Honestly have no idea. My feeling is that he'll minimise rotation because of our current lack of form/organisational car crash. That would make sense. Either way, he's bound to keep a strong side for the EPL - we cannot afford to keep dropping points.

I kept faith with my Southampton trio. Banking on Mane and Pelle producing over these next three.

I talked him up a lot in preseason. Didn't start with him in the end as Martinez said he was an injury doubt. Still annoyed about that 😛

I'm tempted, he was brilliant against Southampton. Think I'll give him a miss though, plenty of good options for 1m or more less.

No. You're being led astray by a chaotic Southampton performance. He won't play someone like Yoshida every week who he can dominate physically. And is service from Barkley is likely to be quelled by a more disciplined DM performance.

What do you all think, I'm sure many people are facing this problem

    A.) Yaya, Hazard, Zarate

    or

    B.) Silva, Payet, Pelle

Long run I'm thinking A, but my gut says B!!!

I have a good feeling about YAYA and that allows space for hazard who will definately come good, I feel like chelsea have something to prove after that 3-0 crushing. Don't want to miss out on having a chelsea player in. It's a big risk, you know what I mean

Yes, despite starting with Depay, Sterling, Walcott, Cazorla and Ibe which has brought me only grief, I STILL see midfield is where the value lies. 5 different prime-value mids for me with cheapies at the back and 2 cheapies either side of Aguero.

      I don't think so.

Diouf/Sakho/Gomis look better value than the midfielders at the same price.
