Once again, there was a minimal amount of new injuries over the weekend’s matches for Fantasy managers to fret over, with Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino playing down concerns after withdrawing Harry Kane and John Terry respectively. Steve McClaren is a manager with worries, however, with injuries in midfield, while his first choice right-back will miss their Gameweek 3 trip to Old Trafford through suspension.

Chelsea
Jose Mourinho denied John Terry picked up an injury in today’s loss at City after being subbed off at the break. Perhaps tellingly, this was the first time in Terry’s career under Mourinho that he had been replaced mid-match, with the Blues boss explaining:

“No [he was not injured], it was a decision I made. I know that Zouma is the fastest in the squad, and in that moment Manchester City were playing on the counter attack. Zouma is different than John, and my decision was proved right as Zouma was in complete control. I left him out because tactically we needed to make a change, and I was proven right as we controlled the game in the second half.”

Mourinho also stated post-match than Oscar, who missed the Etihad trip, remains a doubt for the Gameweek 3 trip to West Brom…

“Oscar’s injury isn’t a big one but it stops him from playing today and probably next week”

Leicester City
Back-up stopper Mark Schwarzer missed yesterday’s win at West Ham due to illness, the club’s official twitter feed confirmed.

Newcastle
Steve McClaren has concerns in midfield for the trip to United after Moussa Sissoko was withdrawn at the break against Swansea due to a groin problem. The Magpies boss also explained Siem de Jong’s weekend absence:

“We lost a big player in Moussa. We don’t know the seriousness of it yet…We think it (De Jong injury) is just a kick on the shin which flared up. He nearly made it (in time) but unfortunately didn’t (but) it should not be too bad.”

Sissoko has since tweeted on his injury, confirming an adductor problem.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino played down his second-half withdrawal of Harry Kane in yesterday’s draw with Stoke. The Spurs boss confirmed Kane’s problem was no more than cramp, having started training a little late due to his Euro U21 exertions with England:

“Harry was very tired and had some cramps in his calf, so to take the risk with the score at 2-0, I didn’t think it was a problem to take him off. He came later in pre-season and it is normal. He is better but he needs time to arrive. We knew before the end of last season Harry Kane would play a lot and the consequences you can see now. This is the truth, at 2-0, after 65 minutes, I think it was enough for him. We don’t take risks with his body”.

Swansea
Garry Monk remains optimistic that Ki Sung-Yeung will return to action for next week’s trip to Sunderland. The Swans boss refused to take any chances with the South Korean at home to Newcastle, after he was forced off with a hamstring injury away to Chelsea last week:

“It wasn’t really [right] to take the risk with him. Of course he’s pushing to play, but I think we’ll give him that little bit more time. He’ll be back in training next week ready for the Sunderland game.”

Suspensions

Newcastle are set to be without Daryl Janmaat for the trip to United after the right-back received his marching order for picking up two yellow cards away to Swansea. Discussing his upcoming absence, the Dutchman – who was booked on both occasions for incidents involving Jefferson Montero – owned up to his Liberty folly:

“I’m very disappointed. It was stupid of me and I have to apologise to my team-mates, the supporters and everybody, because trying to win a game with ten men is very difficult. The first yellow card was clear. The second one, I lost the ball, he (Montero) ran past me and in a split-second I touched him. I pulled him back and that was stupid.”

West Ham are set to be without Adrian for the next three league matches after the Spaniard’s weekend dismissal at home to Leicester. Dismissed for serious foul play after an incident with Jamie Vardy, the Hammers keeper will miss clashes against Bournemouth, Liverpool and Newcastle before returning to action in Gameweek 6 away to Man City. Darren Randolph (4.5) is set to deputise in his absence.

fplstatistics use some tweaks to remove WC transfers from the stats.

It was pretty close last night, but really not sure if it factors in the use of WC. I believe transfers made after you WC do not impact price changes, so really hard to tell.

Shaw needs to beat the defender you take out by 4 points just to break even. Tough call. I probably wouldn't, but really 50/50 chance.

    repost

    Benteke > Aguero
    Hazard > 7.0

For a 4pt hit? Which 7.0 though. Chadli maybe?

    Rest of team:

    Adrian, McCarthy
    Mert, Azpi, Darmian, Oxford, Gomez
    Hazard, Yaya, Mahrez, Westwood, Sanchez
    Rooney, Benteke, Defoe

57pts with Benteke (c) to go.

I could debate the pros and considered of early wildcards but I sat down to watch City v Chelsea thinking if Aguero, YYT, and Kompany are involved in anyway it's wildcard time.

Hopefully it works out suppose it did the year I had a really good early run.

Doesn't make much odds when you do it with no DGW's to save it for. Either use it when your team is kak/much better team available...or use it if you get a raft of injuries one week...Second option is just dull as dishwater.

Any initial drafts ideas? I'm thinking 3 City is a necessity.

Mahrez, Payet, Ayew, Gomis all in my thoughts, Sanchez too.

Kane - Diouf - Kun. Kane -> Gomis, which probably means no Ayew is an option. Have Sanchez as well.

I'm probably going to play my WC and was thinking about doubling up on Man U defence with Darmian and Shaw. Anyone else thinking about doing this?

Man U had the fourth best defence last season and they have improved it this season, at least on paper anyhow. But the main reason why I think they could have one of the best defences this season, even if de Gea leaves, is that they have finally got some good midfielders in Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger to give protection to their back four. If this turns out to be the case then Darmian and Shaw could provide excellent value.

    1. onionbarje

I would just get one probably darmian

I think Southampton's poor defensive record over the last two games is evidence enough of how much protection Schneiderlin gives to a back four

    My reasoning behind the WC:

The template really is struggling. People (including me) seemingly prioritised fixtures and it's not paying off. Of course it could turn around next week with the hits i'd need to get Aguero in are enough to pull me towards a WC

Also with a few price drops in your team coupled with a few rises of the assets you like, you can quickly become priced out of having a team you actually want.

All we have to work from at the start of the season is fixtures, and previous years' form. Nothing wrong with the template team on paper given the fixtures, but now form comes into play.

I'm still undecided about whether or not to play my WC this week. I could easily sort out a couple of issues with my 2 FTs, but other players I don't want still remain...

I'm definitely going to sleep on this one.

Well took a 4 point hit for payet and aguero and ditched ramsey and Kane. Saving the WC till after the transfer window as i think there are still some big signings to be done

      Not me.
I did Wilson, Walcott -> Gomis, Payet last night (2FTs)

I'm giving Rooney (c) another go. Then Rooney -> Aguero in GW4. It will be a -4, either this week or next, depending on a few things

Fair dos. Sounds like you've got a good plan and are content to wait on Aguero, unlike most. I just can't help be guided by the price changes. So volatile and worried about the consequences if i don't do it now.

Price changes always volatile for the first few weeks whilst 3m are still playing.
It won't be like this all season.
Take a few 0.1 falls on the chin and use the WC when injury crisis hits. Or when the fixtures actually change properly for the better.
FFS is in panic mode because of the horrific start, that's influencing things more. The FFS template usually starts well, or reasonably at least. People are panicking. Let them.
It has been, and always will be, the long game.

Nice post, cheers RCA. I just also feel i've got a few duff picks, and it's the drops that are worrying me more than the fact alot are rising. I know there are plenty of downsides to doing it so early, but i just think the benefits could be huge if you get it right. E.g. Aguero scoring again and Rooney blanking again in your case, would you have regretted your decision to not just get him in for the long term, rather than just thinking rooney has a good chance of outscoring aguero this week

Well yeah, my big gamble will be Rooney(c) Vs the the countless Aguero (c). I'm going for it! Good luck with whatever you go with 🙂

Price changes confirmed to me that it was the right decision to wildcard. So many players dropping that my TV would be wrecked by Saturday if I didn't. Not to mention all the problems that would still be in my team.

Yep, it's the same for me. And the new wildcard rules mean it's more sensible to use it earlier. I would like to have more info, but sometimes you need to sacrifice that and go on what you know and hope it pays off. worst comes to worst, you can take an -8 somewhere down the line to sort injuries, loss of form and players being dropped out.

I think it's more dependent on the state of your team. Some shrewdies could have an ok team, some might not.

I think what is holding back a lot of people from WCing is the fact that you're changing the team off the back of 180minutes of football. Also, the transfer window hasn't ended it. But sometimes you just got to take the gamble

That's exactly it. I really would like to have more information, but the sway of the price changes is too much for me. I need to get Aguero in, and a better defence, but the latter is not urgent.

How does one become a 'shrewdie'?
I don't think I'm WC this week, but I may do next (it's either that or -4 at least by the looks of it)
