As we’ve discussed previously, our approach to the weekly games is slightly different this year. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

Gameweek 2 was a rewarding week for strikers in PlayON, with four forwards scoring over 2000 points – with Romelu Lukaku leading the way on 2945 points. Only Riyad Mahrez scored similar, with 2360 points from midfield emphasising the importance of getting those front two spots filled with the right players each week.

Christian Benteke also notched over 2000 points but, along with Lukaku, has a tougher fixture this week as they face Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Sergio Aguero and Stoke’s Mame Diouf were the other two big scorers last weekend and could be the ones to back again ahead of trips to Everton and Norwich respectively.

For the upcoming weekend, as mentioned in the Weekly Shop article I’m predominantly including Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace assets further back in the teams with various combinations from those defences that look to have a potential clean sheet coming up. In midfield I’ve picked the likes of Juan Mata, Dimitri Payet and Yohan Cabaye, all of whom could build on decent PlayON scores last week.

The Bottom Line

A second week without results in PlayON, managing only mid-table finishes in the free entry and the £1.10 contests. I did at least win something, a wonderful £0.05 arriving back in the pot from a 28th place finish out of the 819 entries for the Monday Night freeroll.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £3.10
Winnings – £0.05
Current Pot – £82.90

This Week’s Stake

After an unfavourable start to the season, I’m focusing on low fee contests and free games as I work to build my pot back up.

Weekly – I’ve entered the maximum possible five teams for the £100 freeroll pot, which covers all ten of the rounds fixtures. I’ve also entered two teams for £1.10 apiece into the £100 guaranteed game and taken up a challenge against OptaJoe for another £1.10. I will also check near the deadline if there are any £0.27 and £0.55 games near to being filled and if so put a few teams into those.

Daily – Five entries go into each of the £25 free pot games that are available for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Total Stake: £3.30
As a PlayON Pro it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes, these games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

I get the feeling mid priced Arsenal mids, (Ozil, Caz, Ramsey, and Wally I guess) will soon go out of favour, whether it be from Sanchez dominating points or Arsenal dropping form

A big haul from aguero, and not captaining him would kill my season now.

Currently thinking of going for Kun - Roon - Deeney as my WC strikeforce.

As a United fan I want an attacker, so it's Roon or Depay. Stats clearly say Depay, but Rooney has a knack at home to Newcastle.

More importantly, this allows me to go for a 3-4-3 rather than a 3-5-2 to shoehorn Memphis in.

Watford's fixtures aren't great but Deeney's stats are, he's against a very leaky Soton side and I have the option of a Wilson switch down the line.

The only person I think I'd be missing out on is Gomis, but I want Ayew more.

    Blind faith?

    1. Hands Guber
      • 10 Years

I have faith that Rooney can get on the scoresheet and get his season off the starting blocks BUT if I was on a WC I think it's a little risky, especially with our fixtures.

I have Rooney and Depay in my team from the start and I haven't WC'd,and I'm tempted to (C) either this weekend (it's on Memphis at the moment). I'm kind of liberated by the fact that in captaining either I can ship next week anyway, and that's the plan at the moment.

That said,I really don't like Gomis and think that bandwagon will come to a screeching halt sooner rather than later and Diouf is going to be massively hit and miss. Rooney will play, and Rooney will eventually score,so,I see where you're coming from.

Time to sh1t or get off the pot, this is me:

    Myhill - McCarthy

    Darmian - Kolarov - Gomez - Muniesa - Francis

    Sanchez - Silva - Depay - Mahrez - Westwood

    Aguero - Gomis - Vardy

1.Extremely tempted by Eriksen over Depay, as a slight differential and BAPS whore.

    2. Suggested improvements most welcome.

    Laaaaads,

    Heres the dilemma:

    A) Kompany, Hoolahan, Payet
    OR
    B) Kolarov, Depay, Westwood (bench fodder)

    Thanks,

thinking is that Kompany is more nailed to start, and Hoolahan and Payet are v creative, but Depay could be another captaincy option on top of Silva, Sanchez, Aguero....

would then play Depay, Sanchez, Silva, Mahrez, with KUN, Diouf, Gomis up front....?

Not sure whether to keep team balanced or go really midifeld and striker heavy.

    Mignolet / McCarthy
    Kolarov / Shaw / Williams / Cathcart / Richards
    Sanchez / Silva / Payet / Mahrez / Hoolahan
    Agüero / Gomis / Diouf

Team value 100.5 and still 0.4 in the bank(damn you Walcott for that 0.1 loss, could've had a free defensive upgrade). Some possible upgrades I'm considering are Payet to Depay, Silva to Hazard, Hoolahan to Chadli. All would require downgrading of defense and I don't really think they are worth it, not yet at least.

But you know how it is in fantasy football, Depay will probably score a hat-trick tomorrow now. Currently planning to save up 2 transfers(at 0 atm) and then bring one of those players in, depending who is in the best form.

Thinking the same,I'm pretty terrible at planning when to use WC every year though!

I'm feeling more and more confident having not used it this week. Think a good few early bandwagons will fail and I definitely think it's too early to reset your team to such a degree. Spent 4 doing Benteke to Aguero this week and I'm happy enough with my team.

An indication of how bad this has been for decent (read obsessive) players: In my friends' (mostly casuals) ML, the players who have done well in the past are comfortably mid-bottom of the table, whereas the current leader, just as an indication of general ineptitude, has Cuadrado in midfield. Yes, Cuadrado. Fortunately, I feel his defence, which consists of triple Liverpool, is soon to come unstuck, as is his preference for captaining Lukaku.

I'd say the former, although Pedro's interview made me think he could start straight away. Probably be on the bench then

Mourinho: "We normally train well, but I think this week we train better than ever. Why? Because we are not happy."

        Uh-oh. Unlucky West Brom

Monitoring Pedro - he is as good as prospect as Hazard IMO (will get slated for this).

Actually tempted by a CHE defender on the WC but Utd's defensive form is incredible.

Ditto. I'm tempted to drop Darmian and get in Azpi but that seems a bit loopy on current form.

          They have been abysmal.

Keep some money itb and if they begin to improve maybe bring Azpi in?

Yeah i said the same to Lucy. This Mourinho comment makes me doubt it now.

          I was thinking:

          Costa
          Hazard Willian Pedro

      Kolorov / Darmian / Azpi

      YaYa / Sanchez / Montero / Shaqiri

      Kun / Sakho / Gomis

      Butland - Gomez / Richards / Mahrez
