As we’ve discussed previously, our approach to the weekly games is slightly different this year. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

Gameweek 2 was a rewarding week for strikers in PlayON, with four forwards scoring over 2000 points – with Romelu Lukaku leading the way on 2945 points. Only Riyad Mahrez scored similar, with 2360 points from midfield emphasising the importance of getting those front two spots filled with the right players each week.

Christian Benteke also notched over 2000 points but, along with Lukaku, has a tougher fixture this week as they face Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. Sergio Aguero and Stoke’s Mame Diouf were the other two big scorers last weekend and could be the ones to back again ahead of trips to Everton and Norwich respectively.

For the upcoming weekend, as mentioned in the Weekly Shop article I’m predominantly including Manchester United, West Ham and Crystal Palace assets further back in the teams with various combinations from those defences that look to have a potential clean sheet coming up. In midfield I’ve picked the likes of Juan Mata, Dimitri Payet and Yohan Cabaye, all of whom could build on decent PlayON scores last week.

The Bottom Line

A second week without results in PlayON, managing only mid-table finishes in the free entry and the £1.10 contests. I did at least win something, a wonderful £0.05 arriving back in the pot from a 28th place finish out of the 819 entries for the Monday Night freeroll.

Gameweek 1 Stake – £3.10
Winnings – £0.05
Current Pot – £82.90

This Week’s Stake

After an unfavourable start to the season, I’m focusing on low fee contests and free games as I work to build my pot back up.

Weekly – I’ve entered the maximum possible five teams for the £100 freeroll pot, which covers all ten of the rounds fixtures. I’ve also entered two teams for £1.10 apiece into the £100 guaranteed game and taken up a challenge against OptaJoe for another £1.10. I will also check near the deadline if there are any £0.27 and £0.55 games near to being filled and if so put a few teams into those.

Daily – Five entries go into each of the £25 free pot games that are available for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Total Stake: £3.30
As a PlayON Pro it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all four timeframes, these games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

Slightly. I would be on Sakho if I had no Payet. But with Payet I feel like i'm throwing all my eggs in one basket with 2 West Ham attackers. Diouf is the bigger gamble of the two I feel. But I do like his chances with Stokes recent bolster in midfield

    Depay+A.Ayew

Is Depay gonna kick off now and get good returns or is he gonna stay quiet? Have no Man Utd offensive cover without him. Already have City and Swansea cover through Aguero and Gomis. What would you do?

Right, before I go a word of caution to wildcarders who fancy Sagna. Pelli said around a month could be shorter could be longer. Lets look at the fixtures which he will play -

eve (23rd August) - Clean sheet could be possible here but Lukaku is on form. Prediction 2pts
WAT (29th August) - Clean sheet almost certain here with possible bonus Prediction 7pts
cpl (12th September) - Similar to the Everton game could well keep a CS but i wouldn't bet on it. Prediction 2pts

    ***** Zaba possibly back *****
WHU (19th Sept) - Looks good for a CS but Zabaleta might be back, too much of a risk for me. Prediction 0 points

Please note this is based on Sagna starting and Mangala / Otimentdi filling in.

If you punt youll need to remember that you will have to take him out at some point likely for -4 so your net points total wouldnt be too healthy.

    Advice - avoid

Gk: Butland McCarthy - seem to rotate well for a while
Def: Shaw Huth Ward Richards Prodl - Shaw always and rotate 4.5s depending
Mid - Sanchez Hazard Yaya Mahrez Anya - Couldn't decide between Sanchez and Haz so both
    Fwd - Kun Gomis Sakho

Other options are kolarov over Shaw, but wary of rotation
Could do Yaya to Chadli to upgrade Gomis?

Pro tip: Avoid the following teams: Leicester & Norwich?

They have only 1 gameweek left playing Sunderland!

      Silly logic.

Leicester are very attacking and have great fixtures. Sunderland may tighten up too.

Sort of a joke. I have Leicester assets myself 😀
But I got rid of Coates without hesitation.

My current City defensive cover is Hart and I can't decide on a 5.0 defender (already have Williams). Worth going Courtois + Sagna? Or too short term having Sagna... (Btw on WC)
