As we’ve mentioned previously, our approach to the weekly games is slightly different this year. Armed with an opening pot of £100 for each game, I’ve been tasked with turning that cash into profit and will be updating you on my progress every Friday.

There’s plenty of teams with a promising fixture on paper this week – fortunately in PlayON up to five teams are allowed in each of the free pots and unlimited entries in paid games over the weekend allowing plenty of combinations to be tested. The front two spots are usually a good place to build the team from and with Sergio Aguero (£15.0m), Christian Benteke (£11.7m) and Diego Costa (£14.4m) all playing at home against Watford, West Ham and Crystal Palace respectively they are difficult to overlook, as are their attack minded midfield team-mates.

As mentioned in our midweek Weekly Shop article, there are, however, cheaper in-form options also vying for a spot. Callum Wilson’s (£7.8m) hat-trick at Upton Park could be the start of a run with gung-ho Leicester City up next. Stoke’s Mame Diouf (£9.1m) is also tempting after scoring in back-to-back outings – his form at home also bodes well as West Brom visit the Britannia.

In midfield and defence there’s also many enticing options, not just from those top teams with decent home fixtures. Arsenal midfielders could prosper on the counter against Newcastle and look worthy of investment alongside more budget picks from the likes of Bournemouth and Stoke on the fringes once funds are tight.

The Bottom Line

Another weekend of results that have left me with the feeling I’m treading water as I try to build the pot back up. Winnings of £3.06 almost offset my stake leaving the pot at £82.66, down only £0.24. Patience should hopefully pay off in the long run and I plan to stick with the strategy of low-fee entries and free games for another week, though I’m also entering a few more head-to-heads than usual.

This Week’s Stake

Weekly – The usual five entries go into the £100 guaranteed free game. I’ve gone for two head-to-heads for £1.65 and entered a team in the £1.10 entry game for a £100 pot.

Daily – There’s no Monday night game this week but five teams go in the Saturday and Sunday £25 freerolls. I’ve also entered three head-to-heads on Saturday for a total of £3.57.

Weekly Stake – £6.32
Current Balance – £76.34

As a PlayON Pro it’s possible for you to challenge me one-on-one in all three timeframes this week, these games are not included in the £100 challenge and operate separately. You can also take on other PlayON Pros, current FPL champion Simon March and OptaJoe.

PlayON also have other guaranteed games ahead of the Gameweek 4 deadline. There’s a 200 player, £1,000 Guaranteed game, which requires a £5 entry free, or a 25 player, £500 Guaranteed game, which you can enter for £20.

If you’ve finished tinkering with your Fantasy Premier League team, why not head on over to PlayON to get involved.

Thanks all. Tough choice eh. Leaning slightly towards Costa and yaya because I can make the Costa to benteke trade in two weeks if I choose. Would give me two of the three great home fixtures and a pocket full of cash to play with. Also keen to captain Costa this week.
      Silva though... ðŸ™

For a one week punt only before I play my WC over the int break..

    A - Shaqiri (WBA)
    or
    B - Chadli (EVE)

Exciting. I honestly think he's the best candidate for Captaincy this week. Watford are no pushovers. Crystal Palace are horrible in defence though.

          • 12 Years
          10 years, 7 months ago

Not sure I really buy this argument. Watford have kept clean sheets at home to WBA and Southampton. Neither are in great attacking form.

Palace are a MUCH better team. Whilst I think Costa will do well, we have no measure of how Watford will fare against City. So taking what we know, they're a promoted team and City should win comfortably. If true, Aguero will likely be involved.

Less than a third of all players own Aguero.

            Here's how I see it:

Watford - Defensive, I'm not saying they're going to stop City from scoring, but I can't see a battering, maybe 2-0?

Palace are great going forward, but they're absolutely horrendous at the back and concede tons of goals, which is what we're looking for when buying Costa, and I see Costa having more scoring opportunities against Palace, than Aguero against Watford. Maybe.

I could be totally wrong though.

            I don't own Costa btw.

              • 12 Years
              10 years, 7 months ago

I'm not sure you're basing that on anything other than subjective opinion though. 😛

Re-read my post and think about what we actually know right now.

The risk is too great for me. Aguero has a much higher ceiling this week.

            1. Ruth_NZ
              • 11 Years
              10 years, 7 months ago

I tend to think the same. I'd captain Costa if I had him but that would be 2 hits the week after wildcarding. 😕

Regarding Watford, though, often when a promoted team starts tight there comes a game when the wheels come off and they go down in flames. Etihad is a big pitch. City are in prime form. Could easily be this weekend.

Whichever way, Aguero 58% to Costa and Big Ben each 3% in the captain poll is insane.

And if the Watford game is a rout, Bony's injury is a problem for those not captaining Aguero. He's likely to play 90 minutes now.

I was leaning towards Benteke captaincy, now I'm not so sure, might join everyone else and captain Aguero after all.

Without Coq their midfield has no bite, they need at least one such player in the side. I think benching Ramsey is more diligent given their wealth of attacking mids.

There's a point in that the wealth of having many similar players, able to play the same position, is in the possibility to rotate them, not to field them all at once.

A hit for a defender hardly ever works out. Just know that in such a case the incoming defender would have to get a CS just to break even. Now in the case of Kolarov, he could very well grab the odd assist or goal, but to count on such a thing happening...

I think you need to consider the number of weeks you keep the incoming player when analyzing a points hit. To be worth the hit, the incoming player needs to outscore the outgoing player by 4 points over however many weeks you keep them in the side, NOT the first week you purchase them.

Who would you bench out of my mid/att:

Gomis, Aguero, Wilson; Silva, Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet, Hoolahan.

I currently have Payet (liv) on the bench, alongside Darmian, Naughton and Butland. Already have a stoke defender and I feel that Swansea will score against United.

I'd bench Hoolahan IMO, Saints trying to keep it tight at the back plus West Ham have scored 7 goals so far so likely that they will score at Anfield plus Payet on Set pieces.

I'd bench Cedric, Southampton do not look good atm and Norwich seem to have adapted well. Southampton also played and lost mid week Europa League yesterday, with many of their first team playing the whole 90 mins.

Imo bench Richards, think Villa are the most likely to concede out of thosethree

Who are the strikers? I wouldn't pick Cout if I had Benteke.

      Silva, Yaya, Sanchez
