Christian Eriksen remains sidelined for Tottenham’s home clash with Everton. Arsene Wenger has central defensive concerns ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Newcastle, Diafra Sakho is expected to overcome a groin problem for the Hammers, whilst Palace receive mixed injury news in midfield ahead of their visit to the Bridge.

Arsene Wenger could be without both his first choice centre-backs once again at Newcastle this weekend. Per Mertesacker is still sick, while Laurent Koscielny will be assessed later today – the former is less likely to be fit, according to the Gunners boss. Danny Welbeck is progressing well following his knee injury and could return after the international break.

Diafra Sakho looks likely to overcome a groin problem in time to face Liverpool, according to Slaven Bilic. Elsewhere, Kevin Nolan has left the Hammers by mutual consent.

Brendan Galloway remains a doubt for Everton after being forced off with a knee problem last weekend. Roberto Martinez has also confirmed that John Stones “will be ready” to face Spurs, despite Chelsea’s ongoing interest.

Mile Jedinak suffered a hamstring injury in the midweek Capital one Cup clash, and will be out of action for two to three weeks, suggests Alan Pardew. Meanwhile Pardew has revealed that Yannick Bolasie will return to the Palace squad this weekend, following the death of his father last week. Connor Wickham could return from a rib injury, though Julian Speroni remains out and is expected to return to full training next week.

Watford have no fresh injury worries but will be without summer signing Miguel Britos, who is set to serve a three-match ban for violent conduct after being sent off in the Capital One Cup earlier this week.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Christian Eriksen remains sidelined with a knee injury. Andros Townsend is back in training however, and could be available. Pochettino has also admitted it’s unlikely that he’ll start new boy Clinton Njie due to fitness reasons, whilst the Spurs boss confirmed that Danny Rose – who has yet to start a league match – is now fully fit after sustaining a problem against Real Madrid during pre-season.

Norwich boss Alex Neil has stated that the club have suspended forward Lewis Grabban until next Tuesday, due to disciplinary reasons. Martin Olsson is expected to step up his recovery with a run out for the U21’s today.

Sadio Mane looks set to be available for Southampton’s clash with Norwich. The Senegal international recovered from a hip injury sustained at the weekend and was an unused sub in last night’s Europa League loss to FC Midtylland.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Wenger said Gabriel would shine this season. Mertesacker is a giraffe

Looking back Vermaelen has been a much better defender than Mertesacker too, but couldn't get into the team, because Mertesacker and Kos formed a strong defensive partnership, which was mainly based on the fact that they are total opposites of a CB type. Maybe at some point this season Gabriel will be a first team player even when everybody else is fit, but for now Mertesacker is the captain and Koscielny is the best defender Arsenal have. They'll miss just up to one game probably, since the is international break is coming up and you'll be stuck with a nonregular at 4.9m.

It feels like money isn't too much of an issue this season.

Most likely because most the big hitters aren't performing (Rooney, Costa, Hazard, Sanchez + ARS mid in general, Ivanovic, Terry etc).

I have the feeling that even if we had unlimited cash most WC teams would still look reasonably the same.

Right guys, how about this Hazard, Silva, Sanchez and Aguero team?

    Butland McCarthy
    Richards Kolarov Francis Prödl Ward
    Hazard Silva Westwood Sánchez Mahrez
    Wilson Agüero Diouf

Richards and Ward rotate over at least the next 6 and I've been told Bournemouth and Watford all season?

    1. RustyBz

Not for me, defence really stinks.

Once Wilson & Diouf go on a run without scoring (which they will), you'll be stuffed with those low price forwards.

Not bad at all! If it's not working out, it's simple enough to downgrade whichever big hitter isn't doing it to upgrade a forward or a defender.

thats my thinking too... simple enough to downgrade a big hitter if need be and I quite like rotating defenders. gives me something to do every week!

    QUIZ

    1) In the PL last season, who was the only player to score a hat-trick in a match where they were not on the winning side?
    2) Which Scottish player was named the PL Player of the Month in September 2012, becoming the first Scot to win the accolade since Gary McAllister in April 2001?
    3) What does the Scottish actor John Hannah and the tennis player Marin Cilic have that no PL player ever has had?
    4) If every team that has ever played in the PL is listed alphabetically, who would the last 3 teams be?
    5) "BRIBE BY ROAD" is an anagram of which current PL player?

Sure, but although he might improve the team, it doesn't mean he'd be the best pick in the defence - doesn't have much of a goalscoring record, seems to pick up a few cards, may not be the best performer in the backline in the BPS, etc.

Neither is not the option. I have to play one. I don't think Payet will have an easy go at Anfield and the only reason I'm leaning toward Depay is that I believe if any is to concede out of Swansea or Liverpool at home it would be Swansea.

Darmian vs Montero, likely gonna get 1 yellow card, Swansea as likely to score against Utd as Leicester will against Bournemouth.

Francis also has better attacking returns potential.

          Francis all day long.

I ve decided almost certainly to play my AOA attack chip this week. I play 3-4-3 anyhow, and with my attacking assets Payet & Gomis facing games against my likely back 3 ( Clyne , Gomez, Darmian) i dont want attacking/defensive options cancelling each other out.

Compared to the other chips which have clear upsides for DGWs, AOA offers a risk with the benching of 3 defenders who could otherwise score CS points. The upside is points for 1 extra game from my 5th mid. 5th mid this week is Hoolahan.

Given that my 2 playing defenders will be Richards and Whitaker, both on OK fixtures, i dont think there will be a better time.

    I m convinced , am i missing something?

I'm playing it this week too. Would be benching one of Barkley or Wilson and i don't fancy that.

      Least valuable chip IMO

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 12 Years

I agree that it is least valuable of the three, and i feel that individual situations dictate good moments to play it. The Triple Skipper and the Bench Boost have massive upsides in a kind DGW. I wonder which situation would prompt someone to play a AOA chip ahead of 1 of the others in a DGW?

My benched defenders might get CS again, but that would be 4 in in a row for both 'Pool & Man U. I m comfortable guessing that wont happen.

      • 10 Years

You can't control the games and stop one cancelling the other out. Your strikers might blank and your defenders get clean sheets.

He will probably play. Problem is that he is far less likely to get returns than Aguero, Silva, Yaya, Sterling etc.

Equally, city keep a clean sheet and Kolarov scores with a free kick or gets an assist. That would give him at least 20 points plus without BPS!
