We turn our attentions to FantasyBet this Friday lunchtime, as I continue my quest to turn £100 pot into profit.

For those unfamiliar, the initial player prices and scoring system in FantasyBet are very similar to Fantasy Premier League, making it an accessible weekly and daily format for those who pay a lot of attention to the official game.

There are twelve guaranteed pots this weekend in FantasyBet, including the two regular freerolls – the £100 weekly game and the £50 flash contest. There’s no Monday night football this week, meaning three matches on Sunday, all covered by a £1.10 entry game that has a £75 pot and also a ‘Super Sunday’ contest for a £11 fee that has a £100 pot. Manchester United travel to the Emirates on Sunday in the standout fixture of the weekend and FantasyBet have created a £100 guaranteed game for that clash, with a £11 stake required.

The standard Saturday double-up features with a £75 pot for £3.30 entry. For games covering all ten fixtures there’s the ‘no selection budget’ contest for £5.50 also with £75 on offer and for the high-rollers, a £500 pot for a £22 stake. There’s also the weekly £1000 game for £5.50 that misses out the early kick-off between Crystal Palace and West Brom, allowing teams to be picked up until the 3pm kick-offs.

My Weekend Team
I’m going to run through the team I’m entering in the £100 free-roll, with over 100 entries and counting I tend to go with more differentials than usual in the free games, while also retaining a core of players that most teams will likely have.

For example, in defence I’m tripling up on Chelsea defensive assets, Asmir Begovic (5m), Kurt Zouma (5.5m) and Cesar Azpilicueta (6m) find a place despite their woeful form. Not many are likely to favour Jose Mourinho’s backline after recent outings but I feel this could pay off, considering Southampton failed to score in their last two away trips. I’ve then gone for the full quota of City players, Sergio Aguero (13m) and Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) being joined by Raheem Sterling (9m) as another differential.

The midfield is completed by obvious picks Dimitri Payet (7.5m) and Riyad Mahrez (5.5m) and, as I highlighted in the Weekly Shop article, Crystal Palace’s Yannick Bolasie (6.5m) faces injury-hit West Brom at home. I also considered the merits of Rudy Gestede and Jamie Vardy in that midweek round-up, so the Villa and Leicester strikers slot in alongside Aguero, which leaves a healthy 24.5m for my bench players.

The Bottom Line

Last week, I entered the Sunday and Monday bargain games and also the single fixture Monday night match. Backing clean sheets for both sides in the last fixture of the Gameweek seemed sensible based on their recent defensive form but completely backfired and Everton’s 3-2 victory over West Brom meant no money placings and a remaining pot of £91.11.

This Week’s Stake

Weekly – The team above goes into the £100 free-roll as mentioned and I also play the flash freeroll. I’m also risking £5.50 again to join the £1000 guaranteed game and spend another £1.10 to enter the Scout Picks team.

Daily – I’ve entered the Saturday double up as usual for £3.30 and the Sunday bargain game for £1.10.

Stake – £11
Current balance – £80.11

£100 Guaranteed FFScout Picks League

This week FantasyBet have also provided a £100 pot for the FFScout Picks League. I will enter our Scout Picks as closely as possible, given a 15-man squad is required with the 100m budget and a captain also needs to be selected. Feel free to go up against them this week and pick your own squad on FantasyBet.

    Decisions, decisions

    Schmeichel / McCarthy
    Darmian / Kolorov / Richards / Evans / Gomez
    Sanchez / KDB / Payet / Mahrez / Hoolahan
    Kun / Martial / Ighalo

    1 FT, 0.7M ITB

    a) Play AOA
    b) Play Kolorov, Richards and Darmian or Evans (which one?)
    c) Use FT to replace Gomez for a playable defender

    Off topic and...sighs....

Just watching the news and some loony American on describing why they should have guns due to laws laid out hundreds of years ago...DAMNED WELL CHANGE THEM.

That law of the right to bear arms was introduced at the same time we in the UK had laws for hanging witches...that's about the level the law on the right to bear arms lies...

What the hell is wrong with Americans...

in seriousness would it make a big difference
prohibition didn't work for alcohol, it actually created more crime and took up police resources, there are already more guns than people in America.
It has to be a change of mind set, which may come with new generations but would take a long time.

The logic tends to be that if there was any gun control there would be more gun crime as people couldn't defend themselves against a gunman. Basically they think that gun control would actually make gun crime worse. God knows why.

Bizarrely, they argue as though there's no data to decide who's right. On the face of it, if we're just speculating about a hypothesis, then I can see there's some logic to the position. If there were no data to go on then I could accept that *maybe* it would turn out that criminals would be too afraid to use guns if they risked being shot themselves.

But we now have bags and bags of data to decide who's right.

The depth of the denial is simply breathtaking.

But it's the scale of that denial that I find so scary. The sheer number of them of who believe it so vehemently, you can practically see the spittle on their keyboards as they bash out their reasons why need to own a gun.

        2. Richard_b
          • 11 Years

Yeah I think it's just obvious regardless of some study that more guns and a gun culture means more gun crime. Americans are quite power-hungry people I think and guns just give them a feeling of power.

The desire to own a gun is obviously deeply embedded in the culture in a way that an outsider can never truly understand. There is more to it than just the number of guns lying around, though that obviously doesn't help.

Dr. You are making some serious over-generalizations here. See my post below. Our laws are whack, and a lot of our folks are over-zealous about gun rights, but to generalize about American society, people, etc. (our movies? c'mon), that seems a bit too far. I think our extreme gun advocates are a strange breed of folk, yes. And, I'd stop there.

No...never got around to it. I don't ned to watch it to know that millions of guns on the streets will lead to incidents like yesterday....and will continue to.

It's more of a look into the American psyche and public opinion than an obvious conclusion of guns on streets = killings.

As someone said, the debate ended last year with Sandy Hook when America decided that killing children was bearable. Nothing else can happen to change the discourse, can it?

Sadly, this ^. It will take a generational shift, IMO. I am an American (and I must say, it is really quite interesting to read how the rest of the world views us, and it's not good, but I would not mind seeing ONE post asking: "Any Americans here wish to chime in?" That is a bit bothersome, I must say...).

Anyyyyyyyyyyywaaaay, I think when the current generation of old, white scared folks die off (that is probably my generation; I'm mid-50s), and folks like my kids are the dominant voting block, and their kids start to be eligible to vote, we may have enough of a push for public safety and common sense over nutty centuries old and out-dated constitutional rigidity. Not only that, the constitution is only interpreted as providing this right, and the spirit was clearly intended for folks to bear arms in the event that the government go out of hand (as in the British over the colonies), and militias can be formed to prevent tyranny. That is like dinosaur level stuff now, and yet it equates to millions of handguns and more advanced weapons. What President Obama said yesterday was excellent.

        We are not all alike!

You're right, I shouldn't generalise. I do know there's a large swathe of Americans who don't want to own guns, do think it's madness and do want to see change. It's just hard to remember about them when the actual power is so completely in the hands of the pro-gun folks.

It's also difficult to talk about the 'culture' of a society without generalizing; on the one hand some kind of pervading set of values does clearly exist in every society, even if not every member shares them. The UK has a regrettable drinking culture, for example, but I wouldn't want to be labelled a problem drinker 🙂 It's difficult finding a way to talk about a culture without robbing all the individuals of their differences.

I like to hope you're right about the next generation changing all that though. Here's to your daughter's future! 🙂

Thanks, Roscola. Appreciated. I am going from memory, but I think polls show that more than half of Americans would prefer stricter laws as to gun access (background checks, etc.). I am in a minority, but not that small, that feels that handguns, period, should be outlawed. Humans just are not careful and responsible enough to handle them safely (folks get drunk, domestic fights, suicide, etc.). There are a lot of folks in America who would punch me for saying that out loud, and a lot who would say: "yup." Our states vary on gun laws with some like Texas saying everyone over 18 can have hand guns and carry with a very easy to obtain permit, and states like New York with almost a 180 set of laws.

Our country is indeed whack when it comes to gun violence, gun rights, and the lack of will and courage of politicians to do what is in the best interests of public safety. It pains me, and even our President, that we cannot change our laws for the common good -- health first. I hope one day, the tide will change, due to changing demographics and common sense.

By the way, I went to graduate school at Virginia Tech (about 15 years before the mass shooting there where 32 students were killed), and I live in NYC where we have the strictest gun laws in the country. Even a major NFL player went to prison on a mandatory 3 year sentence because he had handgun without a very difficult to obtain in NYC, license to carry. How did he get caught? He shot himself in the leg in a nightclub. He was a local all-star, too, on the NY Giants. Yet, despite this, we have a lot more guns around, and that leads to accidents, arguments decided with death and maiming, and you get my drift. I am actually 100% aligned with what you are Dr. Wakey are saying...It is a terrible facet of our culture, IMO.

            Thanks.

This is what I wrote yesterday when there was discussion about our warped American gun laws (if you think are you dismayed, imagine living here and not agreeing with it...!):
      ************
      Post #1:
Yeah, could not agree more, and I am an American (in NYC). Unfortunately, there is a very strong pro-gun political machine (lobby) that heavily influences our politician's contributions and agenda. It's very compromised. Somehow, the message of public safety does not outweigh the very outdated freedom to have access to firearms. It is anathema for most politicians, including many liberals, to challenge our sacred gun laws. This defies common sense and logic, and as one who is anti-guns and pro-public safety, I wish things were different. Alas, they are not.

      Post #2:
Yeah, it will take time. I am hoping folks like my daughter, who turns 18 next year and is eligible to vote, after sorta the current generation dies out (that includes me!), change things. I think we have a scared old guard, and our country is becoming more and more diverse and maybe, just maybe, things can change in 20 years or so. It's a shame that so many pro-gun folks are convinced that attempts to boost public safety by increasing gun regulations and restrictions means a loss of their liberty (they really think so, vehemently). The gun lobbyists are far more powerful and wealthy than the pro-safety folks, and you barely even hear our politicians debate this issue, even in our incredibly drawn out election cycle. Instead, they compete to take photos of themselves with guns to show the electorate who is most macho and pro-fun. It's all backwards, IMO.
      ***********************
All American are not alike, so let's please accept that. However, we have a lot of money tied up in our electoral process, which is bad, and the political lobby group, the NRA (National Rifle Association) is an extremely wealthy and influential arm whose endorsements and contributions can make or break a candidate. This is NOT good, and incredibly warped. Even when one of our politicians in Arizona was shot in the head in a massacre (and survived) a few years ago, she could not make any progress in curtailing our incredibly dumb, lax gun laws. It is sad situation, however, there are a lot of folks in country who are easily convinced that curtailing gun rights somehow means they will lose their precious guns altogether.

    Gomis Aguero Berahino

    1.2 mill in the bank.

That is my current team :-/

Assume Silva still keeps the no.10 role>? And if so, is he a better option than KDB over the next 5 weeks?
