Philippe Coutinho returns to training for Liverpool. Ross Barkley notches the opener as England sweep aside Lithuania. Julian Speroni continues his recovery with a run out for Palace reserves, whilst Austria’s Marko Arnautovic is amongst the goals again.

Injury Boost for Klopp

Philippe Coutinho looks likely to be passed fit for Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur in Gameweek 8, after returning to training in Jurgen Klopp’s first day at the helm. The playmaker, who had recently withdrawn from Brazil duties due to a knock, was joined by Dejan Lovren, who has made a quick recovery from an ankle injury.

The Scout Says: Unlike Alexis Sanchez – who snapped his barren spell with five goals in two outings – Coutinho has failed to convert his wealth of shooting opportunities into Fantasy returns. Sanchez is the only midfielder to amass more attempts (41) than the Brazilian (38) this term, but, with over half of Coutinho’s strikes (20) coming from outside the box, he has found the net just once. Shifted to the role in “the hole” in Gameweek 6, the playmaker has fired 20 efforts in three appearances, suggesting Jurgen Klopp will be keen to retain him in a central area in Liverpool’s likely 4-2-3-1 formation under the German. Although the upcoming schedule is littered with tough match-ups through to November (tot, SOT, che, CRY, mci, SWA), the potential impact of Klopp’s arrival perhaps encourages Coutinho’s 14% ownership to hold tight. Lovren was initially expected to be out for two months but his speedy recovery could afford the Croatian a chance to impress the new manager. Once fully fit, the former Southampton man may well get the nod at centre-half, given that Klopp’s preference for a high defensive line and pressing system is similar to Lovren’s previous experience at St Mary’s.

Barkley Impresses for Three Lions

Having supplied an assist for Theo Walcott in England’s clash with Estonia on Friday, Ross Barkley continued his fine recent form by opening the scoring in a 3-0 win over Lithuania with a deflected effort from outside the area.

The Scout Says: Putting the fortuitous nature of his goal aside, Barkley once again conducted the Three Lions’ midfield with poise and invention, strengthening his case for a regular starting berth in Roy Hodgson’s first-choice XI. The Liverpool-born midfielder kicked off the league campaign with two goals in as many starts but has since failed to net in six consecutive matches. Despite chalking up 16 shots over that period, Barkley managed just three shots inside the box – as few as budget fodder Victory Wanyama and Ashley Westwood – which might deter prospective investors ahead of a challenging pair of fixtures (MUN, ars). Beyond Gameweek 11, however, Everton enjoy a procession of favourable ties, thrusting Barkley into the forefront of our thinking.

Oxlade-Chamberlain in the Goals

Handed a role on the England right at the expense of rested Arsenal team-mate Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rifled a shot into the top corner to net the Three Lions’ third in a 3-0 win over Lithuania.

The Scout Says: Despite impressing in pre-season and scoring the Community Shield winner over Chelsea, Oxlade-Chamberlain has subsequently fallen out of the domestic picture for the Gunners. The winger hasn’t started in the league since Gameweek 4, with Aaron Ramsey preferred on the right flank in Arsene Wenger’s chosen 4-2-3-1 set-up, despite the Welshman’s failure to play a part in any of the Gunners’ 13 goals so far. Having witnessed his side squander chances at an unparalleled rate through the opening six Gameweeks, Wenger will be delighted at the fact that the Gunners ranked top for goals (eight) and shot-conversion rate (20.5%) across the past two Gameweeks and will be reluctant to make any unnecessary changes for the weekend trip to Watford. The Vicarage Road side have conceded just one goal at home so far, though, having surrendered just 23 shots inside the box during a quartet of encounters in front of their own supporters.

Arnautovic Strikes Again

Marko Arnautovic inadvertently netted for Austria during their 3-0 win against Liechtenstein, after an attempted interception cannoned of his ankle and arrowed into the bottom corner. Elsewhere amongst the Stoke midfielders, Xherdan Shaqiri marked his recovery from a hamstring problem with a 45-minute run out for Switzerland.

The Scout Says: There was a huge element of luck to Arnautovic’s second goal in as many outings for Austria, yet the way he fashioned the chance was sublime – Stoke City’s in-form winger bamboozled his marker with some silky footwork on the left wing, before driving inside the box and forcing a response. Arnautovic carded just one goal last season but has already doubled that tally this campaign and looks hungry for further attacking returns. Implored by Mark Hughes to improve his scoring rate, the 6.0-priced midfielder could serve as profitable differential over the Potters’ next three match-ups (swa, WAT, new). Shaqiri’s return to fitness could spell the end of Jon Walters’ run of starts for the Potters. The Republic of Ireland man has scored in two of the last three Gameweeks but with Bojan also back in contention, it remains to be seen whether he can retain his role in Mark Hughes’ first XI.

Spurs Pair Earn Assists

Harry Kane picked up an assist after teeing up Barkley for England’s opener, whilst Kyle Walker claimed the assist for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s effort with a well-weighted through ball.

The Scout Says: Kane has so far served up 11 key passes in the top-flight this term – only Jamie Vardy (12) has managed more amongst forwards. A failure to score last night continues his struggles in front of goal, yet the Spurs man has still shown plenty of threat – he’s level with Vardy for attempts (28), with only Sergio Aguero and Graziano Pelle firing more shots. Walker, meanwhile, offers a reliable route into a defence that has conceded only seven goals in eight outings under Mauricio Pochettino. The 5.2-priced Eric Dier – who is suspended for the weekend visit of Liverpool – remains the most alluring option, given that he’s already scored twice in his new central midfield role, though Ben Davies (4.5) has now started seven of the first eight Gameweeks ahead of Danny Rose at left-back. With match-ups against Liverpool Arsenal, West Ham and Chelsea in the next six, though, Spurs may find it difficult to earn returns at either end of the pitch, with only clashes against Bournemouth and Villa looking promising in the short-term.

Speroni Handed Another Reserves Outing

Julian Speroni stepped up his rehabilitation from a hand injury with a 90-minute run-out for Crystal Palace’s U21 outfit yesterday afternoon.

The Scout Says: Nearly 12,000 Fantasy managers recruited the 3.9-priced Wayne Hennessey prior to Gameweek 8, given that the Wales international edged ahead of Alex McCarthy in the pecking order. Although Speroni will hope to eventually reclaim a starting berth on his return to full fitness, the fact that the Eagles boast consecutive clean sheets as a result of Hennessey’s installation will give Alan Pardew food for thought. Sustaining that shut-out streak is a tall order as Palace prepare to face off against West Ham and Leicester – the two sides tied second for goals scored (17) this campaign. Nonetheless, Damien Delaney and Joel Ward could bolster their back line for a home tie against the Hammers this weekend, having recently returned to training.

Mbemba Wins it for Congo

The Newcastle centre-half played a key part in DR Congo’s win over Gabon yesterday, firing home a late effort to hand the Leopards a 2-1 victory.

The Scout Says: Mbemba’s strike served a reminder of the eye for goal that saw him net three times in his final season for former club Anderlecht last term. At a price of 5.0 in FPL, though, he’s the most expensive option for Newcastle ahead of a kind run of fixtures (NOR, sun, STO, bou, LEI, cpl) which could finally see Steve McClaren’s outfit find their way onto some Fantasy radars. With Tim Krul’s season-ending injury affording the 4.0-priced Rob Elliot a chance between the posts, though, and Daryl Janmaat – providing he recovers from a knee knock – impressing down the right with six attempts on target in his last four appearances, Mbemba is likely to struggle for any Fantasy attention.

    Scoutcast Community Questions

Looking to broadcast this week's live Scoutcast on Wednesday 9:15 ish.

Ahead of that would be good to hear some of your questions for us.

Dealing with injuries perhaps? Where now for Kolarov? And the key issue of the week - who to replace Aguero with?

So what you actually meant was -

              "-8 for me so far

              Darmian > Bellerin
              Aguero > Pelle"

If you're going to say you did a - 8 you may as well list all three transfers. Thinking of one of them as free and the other two as the hits is a bit of a false economy in my opinion.

        -8 here too

        Sako -> Mane
        Ayew -> Sanchez
        Aguero -> Berahino

Was 1.5m short of getting Costa rather than Berahino but the cash itb will help me deal with events in the next few weeks.

So you won't want my Gwk 2 transfer of Payet, or perhaps woulld like to have missed out on wildcard Gwk3 transfers such as Sanchez and Aguero in Gwk 8. Or indeed my Gwk 8 transfer of Vardy. Strange, but if that's the way you want to play be my guest. 😉

      In order of importance.

      1.-12 hit or WC?
      2. Mane and Walcott likely to start?
      3. Mahrez or Payet if you can't have both?
      4. How much of an impact does upgrading Jagielka to Coleman and Cedric to Bertrand make?

        2. Both should
        3. Payet
        4. jags and coleman will score a similar amount of points, I think Bertrand will out score Cedric by more though

It depends on who your other 7 attackers are. For me, I'd have to play Drinkwater as have a cheap 5th mid so is a fairly easy decision to take a hit to get Costa/Pelle for Aguero. If I had a front 7 I was happy to play with Aguero on the bench I probably wouldn't take a hit. Clearly >10m on the bench for more than one GW is to be avoided if at all possible

I would like to hear the cases for taking hits to sell Agu and Mahrez / other 4th/5th midfield with the funds freed up.

Also, would like to hear something about the defenders of Soton (eventho there was a great article about it ) Betrrand vs Cedric vs Van Dijk vs Fonte and is Howard a better option over Jagielka for gw11 onwards?

Is this a week to really gamble with captaincy? De bruyne and Sanchez top the poll but will City score a bucketload with a depleted team and although Sanchez is on fire, Watford are very tight at home.

What would be a decent gamble this week with the armband and is it worth it?

May be worth a gamble considering the captaincys will be spread so you won't really lose out that much. Not as if you're gambling against a Kun captain

      My question would be:

Is it worth taking a few hits (12 points) this week to revamp your side with the cash freed up by Aguero if you still have your wildcard and intend to use it in a few weeks to bring him back into your side (it was my intention to play my wildcard then anyway). Maximising your teams output in the short to medium term. My guess would be that the majority of players will be taking hits this week anyway in the light of the international injuries so a 12 point hit this week might be the equivalent of a 8 point hit.

Do you view things like the Aguero injury as a threat or an opportunity?

Is it a threat because it destabilises your plans and forces you into moves which you weren't prepared for and removes the "safe" captaincy choice effectively disrupting the template?

Or is it an opportunity as you are confident in your ability to make the correct transfers and therefore out play your rivals and give you a chance to gain ground / extend your lead?

With injuries, who should we prioritise if we want to minimise hits to 4pts only?

For example, assume someone has Aguero, Silva, Kolarov, Gomez (overhang from previous weeks).

What are Kolarov's stats like over the last couple of game weeks?

I've noticed that Sterling and Kev occupy Kolarov's attacking space making him less effective. It's occurred more so over the last two games.

Is Kolarov is having less of an impact in the final third? This may change due to Silva and Aguero injuries and different attacking options/systems, but is it right to get rid on WC with Clichy also due back so rotation imminent?

With all the injury carnage, and many taking hits, could this week be a good opportunity to take 2-3 hits to refresh our teams and to stay current. With the likes of Mane, KDB, Walcott, Lukaku, Pelle, Bertrand, Barkley and an everton defender all vying for our attention in the coming weeks and significant players injured or rotation threats, it could well be a good strategy to update our teams moving forward to attempt to stay ahead of the curve?

      Here's a question for yous three -

What's ya take on Costa as captain vs Villa at home?

Few stats for ya too -

Villa are 2nd in chances conceded centrally and errors leading to a chance, 3rd in chances conceded from the left and hilariously joint with us for goals conceded. Goals attempts in the box they're 6th. (38)

Though many will vouch for Alexis/Pelle, the maverick move is to captain Costa, am I right? No? Yes? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter. 😉

Cech/De Gea, Kolarov/Francis/Sagna/ Huth /Martin, Barkley/De Bryune, Payet/Mahrez/Hoolahan, Martial/Vardy/Berahino. Captained De Bryune Benched Payet Martin Huth and de Gea and got lucky.

Question is with the turn in Chelsea's fixtures, who should I be looking at? I had always kept enough money to bring in Augreo if his form improved and it did, but he is now out....

Having done a relatively early transfer of Auguero to Pelle and Silva to KDB worried about price drops and rises; when is the best time reason to transfer out a key player / big hitter (especially in form)

Concerned this smacks of the Costa injury of last season. Cue Auguero and Silva start and haul.

Luckily I've kept 5M in the bank to bring them back when fit.

Is there any reason at all, other than his past achievements, to start with Rooney? People here dropping Walcott, Sterling, Barkley, Sturridge et al to accommodate a player who has looked dreadful for 18 months or so. Daniel Taylor's team is probably the best there I think, Ian Dennis's is dreadful.

Yep, Daniel Taylor's team is probably the best. For me though it would depend who finished the season in better form between Sterling & Rooney. If Rooney has hit form, I would just drop him in behind Kane & Walcott.

Huge if though, he has shown no signs of form recently. There is this running thing from many of "you can't drop Rooney" - why!? Because he was great in the past? May as well stick Gascoigne in then.

He is in a particularly poor patch. I had a bet with a friend before the start of the season that we score +15 in the league this season. It's looking foolish now, but I still think he is a quality player. He's got a great football brain, I just think he probably has to play deeper now, because he's lost that cutting edge as a striker.

only time i've ever done it was last day of last season, had to turn my phone off completely.

didnt have balls to bring wally in for a hit so bet £10 on him to score first instead, the hatrick tripled his odds 🙂

Well, I still need an Aguero replacement even though I have Ighalo as an option to play for free this week. Could be the better move but then we've wasted points from this week.

My midfield is Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mane, Mahrez and it's tempting to replace Mahrez with Walcott given all that spare Aguero cash!

look at Arsenals next 4 and then look at Leicesters next 4, i really fancy Leicesters' more tbh. Also Walcott is not nailed on, If i take Aguero out, it' probably going to be for Pelle. i dont think -8 is necessary with Ighalo able to play

I guess it's all the hysteria that these injuries have caused! I'm most likely going to take a hit to replace Aguero. As for whom, I'm liking Pelle/Lukaku the most.

much easier if there is other sport on as well (rugby, F1) if you have a missus then get some brownie points and take her out knowing full well she knows the footie is on and you are missing it, looking at the fixtures, i'd only have Butland playing outside of Saturday, seems a no-brainer to me

    My attack is currently:

    Mahrez KdB Ayew Barkley Payet
    Aguero Ighalo Martial

I've been planning on doing Aguero -> Pelle and Barkley -> Sanchez -4. What do you think of that? Should I think about shipping Ayew instead of Barkley? Barkley looks promising in games, but doesn't get the points yet.

Yeah, he is due, right? I have a good feeling when the schedule gets better for Everton. I'm just worried he plays too low in the midfield.

Have a look at Barkley's coming fixtures.

If Aguero is out for a month, its going to be atleast 6 weeks to get into form again if that right?

Another International break next month so I'd guess the earliest we would see him back is the Liverpool game on 21 November.

What do you guys think of Raheem Sterling's prospects during Aguero's absence?

I have some concerns about his finnishing abailities but on the other hand, he might definitely benefite from a tactital re-positionning. I can definitely see him work well with KDP passing skills in counter-attacks situations.

    Fixtures are quite good too

    Worth a 1 month punt?

It is exactly that, a punt. I am steering clear personally.

Hope you folk can discuss Everton from GW11. With the toughest fixtures out the way, against which they played well, and a flurry of favourable fixtures coming up, how should we planning getting some Everton assets?

    Top candidates are
Lukaku - Already in top form, and doing well against lower order teams, this may be a jackpot
Jagielka/Baines - Should we looking at defensive prospects?
Barkley - Who to replace Barkley with when you have Sanchez/KDB/Payet/Mane/Mahrez filling up your mids.

Thanks and looking forward to the discussion

All are good options - Barkley less so IMO just because there are so many good mids going whereas not so much for strikers. I am maybe considering Lukaku and a defender.

I think I'll try to work Lukaku for Vardy or Barkley for Mahrez. Everton fixtures look lovely

I got Lukaku in this week, earlier than I wanted but it gives me time to get my defences sorted out in the next 2 gameweeks.

Probably getting Coleman in and will keep an eye on Barkley for maybe GW12/13.

Aguero plan. I'm pretty sure I can field 11 without him, so will hold for now as I made my transfers before his cheese string gave out. Hopefully he won't drop by more than .1 before then, meaning I'll keep my profit to date. Then I'll jump on the weekly bandwagon (got a feeling on Sturridge or Mitrovic...).

    Sensible?

Depends who is on your XI. If you are fielding Westwood for example or a defender in a 4-4-2 that is going to get 1-2 points, I'd probably take the hit and jump on Sturridge/Lukaku/Pelle/Costa etc now.

I have Zaha coming off to make a 3-5-2. He's performances have been good, Palace still look a positive attacking team who are relying on goals from midfield, he's taking shots so he has the potential to get some points.

I'd prefer Lukaku. Amazing fixtures from GW11.

On WC,what's the deal with Mangala? Prone to a bit of rotation but is he first choice along with Kompany when everyone fit?
