Our midweek “Weekly Shop” article arrives once again this afternoon, as we cast an eye over those players currently under consideration for our squads across weekly and daily Fantasy Football games.

This early scouting article is divided into two sections. The “Better Buys” will look at the key players for the week ahead, generally assessing those in-form assets who are braced for a promising fixture. The “Poundstretchers”, on the other hand, are the Gameweek prospects that should offer excellent value – often one-week punts, whose lower price tags enable funds to be spent on the big-hitters elsewhere in our lineups.

In today’s article, we assess what’s on offer in this week’s two featured games FantasyBet, and PremierPunt

Better Buys

Following four clean sheets in five between Gameweek 2-6, West Brom’s backline have since conceded five in their last two, with injuries contributing to a downturn in resilience. A home fixture against a Sunderland side that have scored only twice in their last four is an opportunity to recover the defensive solidity Tony Pulis’ teams typically display, with Boaz Myhill – at 4.5m in FantasyBet and 7.3m in Premier Punt – looking a strong option between the posts. After making six saves in his last outing against Crystal Palace, the keeper could be busy again against a Black Cat team that may be re-invigorated with the arrival of Sam Allardyce.

Chelsea’s defensive frailties have been well documented, with a single shut-out and 17 goals conceded over the first eight matches very unusual for a Jose Mourinho side. Weekend visitors Villa however offer the chance for the Blues to rediscover some coherency in defence, though – Tim Sherwood’s side have failed to score in two of their last three matches and have only notched eight goals in total this term. Chelsea look set to be without Branislav Ivanovic, who has been an uncharacteristic liability this term, whereas Cesar Azpilicueta (FantasyBet 6m, Premier Punt 9.2m) has been their most consistent performer and has started every match so far.

Alexis Sanchez’ (FantasyBet 11m, classed as a forward in Premier Punt at 15.4m) statistics over the initial six Gameweeks indicated that goals were imminent and our patience was rewarded, with five strikes over the last two matches re-affirming the Arsenal attacker as a top Fantasy pick. The Gunners do have a crucial midweek Champions League tie with Bayern to follow their trip to Watford but the Chilean’s stunning form is too integral for Arsene Wenger to rest this weekend, having produced nine goals and two assists in the last five appearances for club and country.

After serving up four goals and five assists since Gameweek 4, Graziano Pelle (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 12.2m) has shot to the top of the forwards leaderboard. The Southampton frontman – who also scored in the midweek international for Italy against Norway – will be a popular pick this week, given that he’s up against a Leicester side that have conceded 15 goals so far (the fourth worst record in the league) and have yet to earn a clean sheet.

Poundstretchers

Steve McClaren’s problems at Newcastle were compounded with the news that Tim Krul will be out for the season after sustaining a knee injury on duty for Holland. Robert Elliot (FantasyBet 4m, Premier Punt 6.4m) is set to fill in over a kind run of fixtures that begins with the visit of Norwich. The six goals conceded at Manchester City could potentially be the wake-up call the Magpies need to lift themselves off the bottom of the table, whilst Elliot could rack up save points if the Magpies backline fails to keep the Canaries at bay.

Arsenal have collected a clean sheet in all four occasions that Gabriel (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.1m) has played the full 90 minutes in the league this season, highlighting the Brazilian’s steadying influence in central defence. With Laurent Koscielny unlikely to be available for the clash at Watford, the cut-price Gabriel looks less prone to rotation than the Gunners full-backs ahead of the Bayern encounter and the visitors will be optimistic of another shut-out, considering that the Hornets have scored just once at Vicarage Road so far.

Our next pick is a little more expensive than our usual Poundstretcher options, though Sergio Aguero’s absence for City should leave enough in the bank for most Fantasy managers to splash the cash. With that in mind, we’re backing Palace’s Yohan Cabaye (6.5m in FantasyBet and 8m in PremierPunt), who has been directly involved in his side’s last three goals, scoring two and providing the assist for the other, resulting in back-to-back wins for Alan Pardew’s side. The Frenchman also scored over the international break and looks in fine form ahead of the upcoming visit from London neighbours West Ham.

Saido Berahino (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 9.7m) had a difficult few weeks at West Brom after pushing for a move over the summer. After returning to the Baggies first XI, the frontman scored in successive matches prior to the 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park last time out, where he was withdrawn at half-time. Tony Pulis criticised the forward’s performance against Palace, meaning it’s a risky pick, but up against Sunderland’s porous backline, the youngster should still be considered as a budget option.

These are the players on my radar ahead of this weekend’s weekly contests. On Friday, I’ll be back with a further look at both this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and PremierPunt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Aguero to Costa, yay or nay?
I hope Kolarov is fit otherwise I only have two certain starting defenders in Darmian and Francis.

There's also those non-significant things, like goals and fantasy points. 5 goals to 1. 54 pts to 18. - - Oh yeah. Pelle also has 4 more assists and 5 more bonus pts. 🙂

In fantasy, it's what's happening now. This season. Costa is not doing it. Pelle is. So, while Costa might be the better player overall, and I highlight the words "might be," there is no real reason to argue right now that he is a better pick than the Italian stallion.

So hows this looking for a WC team? tried to balance it in the end instead of having expensive bench players...

    Howard Hennessey
    Bellerin Dawson Janmaat Cedric Simpson
    KDB Sanchez Hazard Payet Mane
    Pelle Vardy Ighalo

Hazard is my money bank for the Aguero swap in a few GWs.. decided i'd rather take the risk with him rather than without him.

I like it though benching Ighalo every week may prove painful

Personally I prefer Myhill and Coleman to Howard and Dawson but it's not much difference

Janmaat though, I know Newcastle have the fixtures. They may also have Elliot in goal and Williamson at CB. Those 2 are awful

      1. Valar(Keith)
        • 16 Years

I need some excitement in my defense and it's either Janmaat or Souare... think i'll take a punt. Btw Ighalo is the cheapest guy i can think of to bench really 😆 .. my alternate draft has Yaya/Wally AND Lukaku instead of Hazard and Ighalo. would mean benching one of my 7.8+ valued attackers 🙂
So Ighalo is a nice compromise

I think I have broken as far as Lukaku goes

With Aguero out my main justification for not getting him (lack of £) has gone

Everton do have a lovely run of games and their midfield is just sop average FPL wise.

The problem with buying Lukaku is that I can't ever sell him

Nice. I already have Pelle and Vardy, and am still deciding on my Aguero replacement, knowing it can be a temporary one:

Kane, Lukaku, Costa, Sturridge. I am leaning towards Sturridge at the mo, but am still waffling.

Thats the thing you see with the Costa vs Lukaku this week. If Lukaku is in your plan for GW11 then it is another transfer to sort that out.

          Its like 2 scenarios:

          A) Costa does well, do you keep? and leave Lukaku out
          B) Costa does nothing. Waste a transfer to get Lukaku in

Its avoidable for people go straight for Lukaku now, and hope for the best in these next 2 gw

Any advice? If Naughton Ayew and Kolarov are fine I'm thinking ...

    A) Aguero > Lukaku (-4)

    B) Aguero & Sako > Lukaku & KDB (-8)

    C) Other?

    Begovic

    Kolarov // Naughton // Cresswell

    Sanchez // Payet // Mahrez // Ayew

    Pelle // Vardy // Aguero**

Well, this is the thing. As sarjeant showed yesterday, he does score against easy opposition. It's just that he also scores against hard opposition.

In standard terms, he's unpredictable. If you apply standard FPL thinking to him, and get him when he's in form with good fixtures, he will disappoint because he doesn't behave that way. Hence I've got him in ahead of mixed fixtures, having failed to score against Israel 😀

Maybe I'll drop him in GW11.

Exactly. If you apply logic, you will fail, young grasshopper.

Romelu Lukaku is in fact a Zen koan, designed by Master Martinez to rid us of our attachment to logic.

Most of goals he scored in firts half of season when Mane was adapting to Southamptin life. 12 goals ( 8PL goals) before X-mas. 3 goals when Mane wasn't even there. in GWn6 Pelle 2 goals, Mane 60minuntes. In GW 8- Pelle 1 goal, Mane26 min from bench, GW 17, Pelle 1 goal, Mane out.

So looks like Pelle doesn't depend on Mane

It would be a real benching headache, but it would at least give me a great front 7 every single week. Next week, I'd probably bench one of the Saints players away to Liverpool, or even Martial against City.

Payet scoring 6 or more points is not very unlikely against Palace's defence. 1 assist and 1 bonus is enough.

I would consider Westwood to Payet or Walcott and bench Mahrez with AOA. Alternatively, you could go Huth > Bellerin for a hit (I do not subscribe to the "never take a hit for a defender" rule), but there is a chance that Bellerin is rested for the mid-week UCL match. If it helps, I actually took Bellerin anyway, from Koscielny, as I felt the risk was worth given my paltry defenders, if that helps...

Jack Lambert it is. The most rough and rugged guy to ever set foot on the gridiron. One of them, anyways. Yeah. I used to catch the Henry Rollins Show quite a bit back when it was on. He, as you know, popped up in so many other venues as well. Quite intelligent. Would be cool to see him perform live. Will give what you mentioned a look. You're out in NYC, aren't you? From there, anyways, right?

Yes, been living in NYC since 1995, and grew up 30 miles north in the suburbs.

So that was Jack Lambert! Man, the Steelers was some team back then, iron curtain and all.

I watched Henry on IFC, too, but alas, it only lasted two seasons. His rants were great. He is funny during spoken word (kinda like a comedian), and when musical, he is insanely energetic, rhythmic, and is a huge beast of muscular maniac. I am aligned with his politics, too, so that is a biggie.

I will be minus 8 this week, and I still have my WC. I think minus 8 is fine, and hits are fine, if by your own calculus, you really think that there is a good chance the guy bought will have a good game (e.g. Bellerin has a pretty good shot at a clean sheet + BAPS this week, and Huth likely will get 1 pointer).
