With injuries mounting up, our community writers were on hand to serve up a raft of options to replace ailing attackers, maligned midfielders and indisposed defenders. Our hot topic posters ponder just how to spend the riches made available through a certain Argentine striker’s dodgy hamstrings, while we also catch up on the latest Member tables as well as news from our community leagues.

The Community Articles

With Sergio Aguero out for a number of Gameweeks through injury the community was in the market for a new striker. Rodellegabomb was on hand with this stat heavy, Members only, article on potential replacements for the Manchester City striker as well as a follow up looking at some more leftfield options.  Later in the week he also took a look at some of the best statistics for three of the week’s key bandwagons.

The Sarjeant also offers up a prime candidate to come into our frontlines in his latest look at team form, while Your Mum’s Athletic’s Gameweek 9 What the Bookies Say article predicts goals galore on the south coast this weekend to offer further replacement options.

With many defenders struggling with injury or battling the spectre of rotation, Innsie’s assessment of baseline bonus points amongst goalkeepers, full backs and centrebacks proved a timely article for those looking to revamp their backlines.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

There were plenty more options for those looking to replace Aguero in our look at the fall out from his injury, while Balders has taken a look to see how Manchester City fare in front of goal with and without their key striker.

Meanwhile, having sold the premium priced Aguero, the community are feeling rather flushed. Here’s how some are looking to flash their newly found cash.

As with our community articles, our community discussions also looked at defender options, as the injury flags continue to flutter alarmingly at the back. Our look at which centre backs and full backs are riding high in the Fantasy points, bonus, fixtures, assists and goal charts offers up some more options to consider drafting in.

Amongst midfielders, Riyad Mahrez appears to be on borrowed time, after being left out of Leicester’s side against Norwich in Gameweek 8 for tactical reasons. Abel Xavier is one of a number of community members considering letting Mahrez go. Diva has also been looking closely at Leicester players and asked whether Mahrez owners who also own Jamie Vardy, as well as two Southampton attackers are worried about over exposure when the two sides meet this weekend.

The injuries were also mounting up over at Anfield, where new boss Jurgen Klopp’s has promised a more intense brand of football. Danny Ings is now sidelined for the rest of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage in training, while Joe Gomez is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after being injured while on international duty. For those wanting to know more about Klopp’s brand of football Jaffalicious was on hands with some of his most eye catching career statistics.

Elsewhere, Gargamel popped by with news of an update to his Gargatron tool, which gives Fantasy managers a revealing look at how their season has progressed so far.

Finally, it was Christina’s turn to hand out the cake as he celebrated his birthday this week.

The Members Tables

Danandandaman has taken a stab at predicting arguably the most unpredictable element of Fantasy Football, a goal from a defender. Greenwindmill’s latest table takes a look at tough defences who are forcing opposing teams to take long range pot shots, as well as soft touches who are inviting teams into their penalty box with alarming regularity.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

The qualification results and first round draw of BaldersAmerican style Community Grand Play Offs competition are now live. Balders also brought us news of plans to set up a new community tournament organisation.

The results from Gamweek 1 of Jarvish’s Blank Week Challenge, for those wanting to carry on scratching their Fantasy Football itch during the international break, have also been published. Moorinho is setting the pace so far, with Kingozil and Onside9 also doing well.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Janmaat and o'shea on a WC. What have you been doing?!

      Janmaat > Cedric/Bert
O'shea > Simpson (purely to raise funds for the below)
      Hooper > Ighalo

If still can't afford Ighalo then maybe bellerin > Gabriel (albeit that carries a risk)

I don't get why people would want a strong 8 and bench a 6-7M player every week. Unless you can play AOA every week ?

Can't make all the moves I want in one week, would have been a -12. Doing it one player at a time leaves me with a strong 8. Hopefully next week I get to go to 7 strong, 1 bench

      2. belizio

        1. Saves you transfers. Short-term injuries are common, suspensions too, rotation will be even more of an issue as fixtures pile up. People end up taking hits (or using up transfers they'd otherwise use elsewhere) to fix someone. If you have a plausible spare player, there's less pressure to do this. When Silva gets a twinge and misses a week, or Mahrez doesn't play, or Diouf goes home, or Sanchez is given a break unexpectedly... the guy with a strong front 8 can sit tight and save his/her transfer. It's also less urgent when someone gets injured for longer.

        2. Price rises. Put a Westwood in there and at best he's holding value. This cancels out some of the advantage you get by trying to save ~1m in the first place.

        3. You can rotate with form and fixtures. Fixtures I think are less important for attackers than defenders, but there's still a pretty strong relationship between expected points and opposition.

Set against this is the slightly higher cost (but see point 2, also the strong budget performers available like Downing/Austin/Kane last season, Mahrez/Vardy/Ighalo this, and of course all the Aguero money floating about), and I guess the "decision paralysis" some people like to avoid. Though honestly, if you dislike making guesses about which players are going to score more fantasy points in a given week, playing Fantasy Football is a godawful way to be spending your time...

One more (subtle) advantage: Holding 8 attacking players 'covers' you a bit more. You've slightly more chance of having the players who hit form. So for example, at various times this season I've had players on my bench who've turned out better than I expected - if I was playing with 7 attackers, I might have left the likes of Wilson, Mahrez, Ighalo, Payet out in favour of cheap options with no upside (Westwood etc.). Instead, even if I didn't immediately benefit from their points because I only trusted them as far as the bench, I did get their price rises... and they ended up being rotated into my starting lineup as other players got injured etc. Which again saves me both transfers and fantasy moolah.

It's up to me to turn that into points now, of course!

Is Coleman still Goalman? The stats from five starts are not flattering. Tempted to save half a mill and go for Jag's CBI. He matched Seamus for goals last year with 4 anyway.

    Thoughts?

If you're thinking AOA, maybe post your lineup here -- it'd be great to see who others are debating:

    Azpilicueta Williams
    Hazard Snachez Walcott Payet Mahrez
    Martial Sakho Ighalo

JEvans Richards Kolarov on the bench. Not sure if I want to waste the chip when Richards should play and JEvans might as well. Plus Mahrez playing time is questionable.

I saw it this morning and thought no big deal, he will hit Wildcard and the transfers will go away. I saw it after the deadline the second time.

Step away from the Erikson. He will hurt you. I am still nursing the wounds from my last involvement with him, and I can only say that he has no idea how to carry on a healthy relationship.

Not to worry. He is with Lukaku and Coutinho on the Never Again list.

Will this lot be enough to get me by this week? Defence is very very dodgy.. No hits

    Fabianski

    Darmian Huth Evans (Richards Kolarov)

Sanchez KDB Payet Mahrez ( Westwood )

    Vardy Martial Pelle

Yeah, I'd be taking hits, but maybe you're part of that "the best differential this week is not taking hits" crowd. I would get one blue-chip defender in, just in case the worst of those guys gets 0 or -1.

I'm with the 'hits normally don't pay off for defenders' camp.

I could do Westwood -> Walcott for a hit and play AOA. With slight doubts over Mahrez & Sanchez though I fear I could be wasting the chip

    What to do?

    Butland - Myhill
    Kolarov - Darmian - Williams - Gomez - Richards
Sanchez - De Bruyne - Payet - Mahrez - Westwood
    Lukaku - Pelle - Vardy

Used my ft on Aguero to Lukaku.

I'm thinking Kola/Gomez to Janmaat or Bertrand for a -4.

Could also upgrade Westwood to Mane/Wally. But unsure of minutes.
