The Suspension Tightrope claimed no new victims over the last couple of days, but there are now 13 players finely balanced at the four-yellow mark with just one match remaining in Gameweek 9.

Prior to the weekend’s action getting underway, there were ten men on the verge of a one-match suspension: Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Fernandinho, Eliaquim Mangala, Matteo Darmian, Jack Colback, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele Alli and Mark Noble were all precariously perched.

James Milner joined that cast with a late challenge on Danny Rose and rode his luck for the remainder of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs, escaping without a red despite making a number of clumsy tackles. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela proved similarly tenacious for the home team and subsequently received his fourth caution of the campaign, placing him at risk of missing the North London derby in Gameweek 12. Spurs and Man City are the only two teams with one than one player on this week’s Tightrope, with both sides affording us two apiece.

Finally, Claudio Yacob – a midfield lynchpin for a West Bromwich Albion outfit that ranks joint-top for clean sheets (five) this term – entered the referee’s notebook for the third time in four outings, earning him caution number four for the campaign.

In terms of new suspensions, Dwight Gayle received his marching orders for two soft yellows during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United yesterday. The Eagles frontman was dismissed with the score level at one apiece late in the first-half and, post-match, manager Alan Pardew reckoned the decision was a little unjust:

“Our striker gets booked for a bad challenge, quite rightly. The second challenge, the referee knows he’s booked, he’s missed it by a centimetre probably and he sends him off. I thought a man of his experience perhaps should have looked at that situation and given him his final warning. I’m not excusing him from complete blame. The second challenge, he shouldn’t make. He’ll have to learn from that. Having said that, I still think it was very harsh to send him off.”

The 5.1-priced Gayle – who has started the last three outings up top – now sits out the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City next Gameweek, with Pardew likely to turn to Fraizer Campbell or Patrick Bamford if Connor Wickham fails to recover from injury in time. Given that he’s failed to net in five league appearances, Gayle may find it difficult to make an immediate return to the first XI in Gameweek 11.

Turning our attention towards players that have served their time, Eric Dier and Sebastian Coates – who toppled off the Tightrope last Gameweek – are available for selection next time out. The former will be hoping to reclaim his starting role in central midfield for the trip to Bournemouth, though Mousa Dembele staked a claim for another start with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool yesterday. Coates, meanwhile, will have to impress new manager Sam Allardyce to displace either Younes Kaboul or John O’Shea in central defence.

Jeremain Lens also makes a welcome return for the Black Cats, having fulfilled his duties and sat out their 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns. The Dutch midfielder – who has played a part in five of Sunderland’s eight league goals this season – could have a key part to play in the Wear-Tyne derby next Sunday as Big Sam welcomes his former club to the Stadium of Light.

Thoughts on Martial to Kane ?

Got .2 tied up in Martial, can see goals in the Derby and great fixtures after but his playing wide and stats are not very good.

Kane has good underlying stats just needs one to go in to build confidence, has 2 great attacking fixtures and then a constant run of good attacking fixtures for a long while, with the exception of one or two games

( Plus MNF in 2 weeks and Daniel tells me explosion imminent for Kane) 😀

    1. KingNidge
      11 years, 5 days ago

totallg agree regarding kane i got him last week.. iv got martial too and going nowhere

      1. Jay_
        11 years, 5 days ago

Vardy and Costa are my other 2 forwards, could lose Costa but Chelsea have a good run of fixtures coming too

        1. KingNidge
          11 years, 5 days ago

yeah would be hard to ditch costa after a brace goals do breed confidence so i would hold.. id probably hold off on kane ur forwards are fine

Martial could have had 3 goals in last two and subjectively looks very comfortable in the PL already and is threatening in a so-far quiet United attack.

I think people will be scrambling to get him back in soon enough

        1. Jay_
          11 years, 5 days ago

That's my fear, a Kane blank and Martial goal v City and Martial becomes near on essential ahead of that run of fixtures

    4. President John F. Keninnsie

Tough one that. I'd probably lean towards don't do it.

Their fixtures turn poor soon do you think Leicester will keep up this form?

    4. GoonerByron
      11 years, 5 days ago

I just did for De Bruyne to catch the price rise alongside Kolarov -> Bellerin. Good chance I may WC to get rid of it though.

Have no playing keepers ATM so have to use my FT on that. Sounds like he is going to be benched for awhile.

      1. Jay_
        11 years, 5 days ago

Get Vardy for free, take the 0 with the keepers and get DDG next week, good chance to jump on the best defence in England clean sheets wise since November ahead of a dream run

Thoughts on my transfer decisions for next GW? (obviously depends how Ayew looks tomorrow):

    A: Ayew ---> Wijnaldum
    B: Mahrez ---> Wijnaldum
    C: Ighalo ---> Costa
D: 5th mid Westwood ---> Wijnaldum (can bench rotate with ayew, mahrez, ighalo)

    1. Jay_
      11 years, 5 days ago

I would forget option D, these luxury benching headaches are going to be one big Migraine when Aguero is back and your team structure is messed up

      1. Judas
        11 years, 5 days ago

I have always been against having 5 good mids, but with cheap players like ighalo, mahrez etc, I wouldnt mind benching them vs difficult opponents. Whereas if I were to do Westwood ---> Payet that would be a bigger headache as id never want to bench him

    2. sleecc
      11 years, 5 days ago

D, Ighalo would be useful, and also good fixtures after Leicester's fixtures turn bad.

      1. Judas
        11 years, 5 days ago

yeah true. he does look like a handy player to have.

    4. Pierce34
      11 years, 5 days ago

I may be new to this, but I'm all in favour of a benching nightmare so I vote D. Better to have points on your bench in my opinion, you never know when the injury bug hits next.

      1. Judas
        11 years, 5 days ago

    Ruddy Rudd
    Kolarov Cédric Morgan Coates Dawson
Mahrez De Bruyne Sánchez Payet Westwood
    Pellè Martial Vardy

1 FT, £5.2m in the bank.

    b) upgrade a defender
    c) upgrade a forward
    d) something else

Chelsea won without Hazard and something tells me Mou will go with same XI

Next few weeks ARS, SWA, MCI, SOU, TOT have better CS chances. MUN look good in a few weeks

Out of that lot you have pretty good coverage. SOU and a different MCI defender could rotate nicely with TOT, SWA, MUN

Ouch, missed the Bellerin rise. I'll wait till post Bayern providing Staylor doesn't drop before.

    My defence is fooked:

Darmian, Nyom (subbed again), Kolarov, Cameron, Staylor

That's true but there are so many budget and mid-priced mids & fwds doing well that you can still put a decent defence together. Might be a different story if Hazard gets his act together.

    5. Nickofoz

I think the players are too bad to work with. PvA is a disaster defensively, as is Kaboul. Coates has been sloppy and O'Shea is slow and well past it.

Can't see them avoiding relegation tbh.

      1.

This is my thinking but O'Shea at 4.3 is looking like the cheapest starte in the game

Yep. Wouldn't be surprised if Coates starts over one of them actually. He's 4.2m
