[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope claimed no new victims over the last couple of days, but there are now 13 players finely balanced at the four-yellow mark with just one match remaining in Gameweek 9.

Prior to the weekend’s action getting underway, there were ten men on the verge of a one-match suspension: Ciaran Clark, Jeffrey Schlupp, Fernandinho, Eliaquim Mangala, Matteo Darmian, Jack Colback, Oriol Romeu, Billy Jones, Dele Alli and Mark Noble were all precariously perched.

James Milner joined that cast with a late challenge on Danny Rose and rode his luck for the remainder of Liverpool’s encounter against Spurs, escaping without a red despite making a number of clumsy tackles. Meanwhile, Erik Lamela proved similarly tenacious for the home team and subsequently received his fourth caution of the campaign, placing him at risk of missing the North London derby in Gameweek 12. Spurs and Man City are the only two teams with one than one player on this week’s Tightrope, with both sides affording us two apiece.

Finally, Claudio Yacob – a midfield lynchpin for a West Bromwich Albion outfit that ranks joint-top for clean sheets (five) this term – entered the referee’s notebook for the third time in four outings, earning him caution number four for the campaign.

In terms of new suspensions, Dwight Gayle received his marching orders for two soft yellows during Crystal Palace’s 3-1 home defeat to West Ham United yesterday. The Eagles frontman was dismissed with the score level at one apiece late in the first-half and, post-match, manager Alan Pardew reckoned the decision was a little unjust:

“Our striker gets booked for a bad challenge, quite rightly. The second challenge, the referee knows he’s booked, he’s missed it by a centimetre probably and he sends him off. I thought a man of his experience perhaps should have looked at that situation and given him his final warning. I’m not excusing him from complete blame. The second challenge, he shouldn’t make. He’ll have to learn from that. Having said that, I still think it was very harsh to send him off.”

The 5.1-priced Gayle – who has started the last three outings up top – now sits out the Eagles’ trip to Leicester City next Gameweek, with Pardew likely to turn to Fraizer Campbell or Patrick Bamford if Connor Wickham fails to recover from injury in time. Given that he’s failed to net in five league appearances, Gayle may find it difficult to make an immediate return to the first XI in Gameweek 11.

Turning our attention towards players that have served their time, Eric Dier and Sebastian Coates – who toppled off the Tightrope last Gameweek – are available for selection next time out. The former will be hoping to reclaim his starting role in central midfield for the trip to Bournemouth, though Mousa Dembele staked a claim for another start with a man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool yesterday. Coates, meanwhile, will have to impress new manager Sam Allardyce to displace either Younes Kaboul or John O’Shea in central defence.

Jeremain Lens also makes a welcome return for the Black Cats, having fulfilled his duties and sat out their 1-0 loss at The Hawthorns. The Dutch midfielder – who has played a part in five of Sunderland’s eight league goals this season – could have a key part to play in the Wear-Tyne derby next Sunday as Big Sam welcomes his former club to the Stadium of Light.

Thought they were unlucky with the Berahino goal this week. Was legit goal but... I think there is a chance to improve. Won't be surprised to see a pretty spirited derby

    Morning chaps

If you have to choose Darmian or an Everton defender say Stones/Coleman for GW 11 onwards, which one will you go for?

    1. Nickofoz

I'd go for Coleman, but I'd prefer spending extra and getting Smalling over all of them

Thing is, I have Darmian, Bellerin, Zouma, Dier and Souare and I'm contemplating if I should get an Everton defender for those fixtures.

Not 100% sure who to ship out to accomodate that though.

I have Darmian, and will keep him instead of getting any Everton defenders. Only problem is his 4 YCs.

I was thinking of him out yes. But then Ivanovic got injured and im starting to like his chances to start games. Also did you notice, Zouma also takes the odd free kicks.

But yea good shout, maybe him out for the Everton's defender if I decided one is needed.

          Was a logical move yes.

Watched the game last night. I would say they just got caught because they were chasing the game in the 2nd half after they put Wes in. Still didnt expect it to go to 6 though.

          Bad luck.

Depends on the rest of your team. If you get him, then who are you benching?

If only those Sunderland and Bournemouth games are home games I'd be tempted. The home game will be STOKE.

              Confidence will be high though.

Who spent the funds worse, Liverpool after Suarez or Spurs after Bale?

    1. Zasa
      • 12 Years

      Answer: Feckin Liverpool

        • 12 Years
        10 years, 9 months ago

I'm not sure, Clyne, Can and Firmino could turn around that view point.

        Lallana was cack.

        Liverpool after Torres was worse.

        1. Zasa
          • 12 Years
          10 years, 9 months ago

Oh sure, starting now with Klopp in the side 😉 But the fall from second to sixth spending 130m, as opposed to Spurs spending 110m going from fifth to sixth, is pretty significant IMO.

Lovren, Balotelli, Markovic, Lambert, & Mancillo were supremely wasted though, IMO. Spurs saw great improvement in their attacking midfield with Eriksen & Chadli

            • 12 Years
            10 years, 9 months ago

The positions they fell from just shows how much better Suarez was than Bale 😉

I'm sitting on the hedge until at least the end of the season on this debate

Oh I have no doubts Pool exponentially have more potential in Can, Milner, Firm & Clyne. Though I'm discussing last season, pre-Klopp 😉

      Spurs' Magnificent 7:

Paulinho, Christian Eriksen, Roberto Soldado, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Erik Lamela

2 successes with a potential third in Lamela?

      1. Zasa
        • 12 Years
        10 years, 9 months ago

Those two successes were very impactful though, keep in mind Eriksen contributed to 14 goals last season & Chadli to 17. They have one of the best playmakers in the league with Eriksen. Lamela's certainly molding into a quality prospect.

Eriksen is a beauty to watch, so good and so young! Kid's got potential you can dream on.

A very flakey league of late, though there's so much potential & hidden gems in Dutch youth system it's insane. Also Suarez 🙂 . It'll be interesting to see who of the PSV succeeds more this season, my money's on Wij.

                  10 years, 9 months ago

yep I'll go with Wijy too because LVG is gonna kill Memphis.

By the way this is a fun table to look back at now, so many in the PL now, also Altidore!

    Thoughts here lads?

    A) Use AOA for Ighalo (stk) this week. Would mean benching one of Ighalo (WHU) and Mahrez (wba) next week.

    B) Play one of Francis (TOT) or Azpi (whu) this week and bench Ighalo (stk). Use AOA next week but would mean benching Azpi (LIV) or Dawson (LEI) next week.

Leaning towards B at this stage. Cheers 🙂

Tough. A slightly since I don;t like your defensive options this week. However sto is not the best fixture for Iglaho.

i think Dawson vs Mahrez is key here. If you think Mahrez can do good things at WBA then B, but if you think WBa will be solid yet again then A.

I'm sure this was covered, but was there ever any explanation as to why Pelle didn't get an assist? I find it baffling that Navas gets one after hitting the keeper and watching Sterling dribble around for five seconds afterwards, but Pelle didn't get one after having the next touch after his be a goal.

A clean sheet is awarded for not conceding a goal whilst on the pitch and playing at least 60 minutes.

Maybe. The FPL rule is clear though, you have to play at least 60 minutes to get a CS, although that term is hard to digest in real footballing terms as anything than happened between the 59th - 60th is always considered or recorded as 60th minute.

However, as Berty owner, I wouldn't say anything more than that 😉

I'm a Cedric owner but not bitter. Playing less than 60 minutes shouldn't net you a clean sheet. I'm more upset with Koeman, because if that was a tactical decision to get fresh legs against Mahrez' pace, the tactic didn't work.

Decent enough score! Stops the rot at least. Very glad I dodged the Sturridge bullet - was very tempted!

Took a late hit for Rantie > Costa too. Now have a benching headache every week, but so far it's going ok - was between benching Vardy or Mahrez this week and benched Mahrez.

            Phew.

Rantie -> Costa :ozil: talk about money itb lol

Thinking of benching Vardy?? You one lucky guy.

😀 Got Pelle back in my team - knew this would happen. Head told me Bony, heart said Pelle. He better come good...

Would very much like to see another Stoke win. And when Shawcross comes back next week, we'll beat them all.

Afternoon or appropriate time zone greeting deadzone.

I've lost the plot this season, going backwards fast. Any suggestions here

    Begovic Eliot
    Kolarov, Bellerin, Evans, Galloway, Francis
    Sanchez, hazard, mane, payet, mane
    Pelle, martial, ighalo
    1ft, 1.5 itb

i think I want lukaku in next week
    Who in for hazard?
Worth upgrading ighalo > vardy for a hit?

      Hey there Zan.

At least you're still top 200k. I'm still in the wilderness.

      KDB..hello?

      I prefer Martial -> Vardy

I'd actually do martial > vardy this week
        Next week ighalo > lukaku
-4 as have to downgrade hazard

As opposed to martial > lukaku next week for free and keep ighalo

Martial > Vardy instead of Ighalo.

Ighalo is good for your 3rd striker.

And forget about lukaku next week?

Everton are wayyy too inconsistent for me. Can beat anyone weak, thrashed the next.

Hazard -> KDB is the obvious one.
Depends, who is the second Mane in midfield? Will you play 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 with Vardy in?

Mahrez so does not rotate particularly well with Vardy..

Any point on waiting for Champs League to pass before swapping out Kola?

I mean he's out anyway right?

Other players aren't out. Clichy could get injured if he plays etc.

yup. guess I'll just watch his price fall helplessly..

He won't be out for long, and I can't afford paying more than I sold him for when I need him back, so the kid stays in the picture.

right. Got Saylor too. would just swap him out as I have funds after Kun swap (eww gross) but suppose the player I get injuries himself...

            yep I'll wait.

After that Norwich performance, reassessing my plans for GW11. Thoughts on this plan?

    Begovic
    Skrtel Dawson Naughton
    Sanchez Payet Ayew Mahrez
    Costa Vardy Pelle

    Mane; Coloccini; Kolarov

    A)
    GW10 - save
    GW11 - Costa > Bony, Mane>KDB OR Ayew>Sterling

    B)
    GW10 - save
    GW11 - Kolarov > 4.3 below def, Ayew/Mane > Sterling

I can probably go without City attack this GW, but i'll be slaughtered in GW11 if I don't.

      I like B.

if NOR is your case, then you forgot Costa has NOR is GW13

Exactly, which is why I prefer B as well. Gives me more flex with Costa and avoids spreading funds too much when Aguero is back.

If I decide on the B set of transfers, I might sell Kola this week to free up them funds.

    Pelle
    Lens
    Wijnaldum
    Tadic
    Siem De Jong
    Chadli
    Eriksen

    all in the top 25.

While all of the above minus Chadli, but plus Van Ginkel and Djuricic are in the top 25 asissters.

Who needs academies when you have the Netherlands right?
