Kevin de Bruyne grabs a late winner as City come from behind to see of Sevilla. Anthony Martial’s header earns United a point in Moscow, whilst the injuries start to ease for both Liverpool and Palace ahead of the weekend.

De Bruyne Wins it for City

Manchester City ran out 2-1 victors over Sevilla courtesy of an own goal and a 91st-minute strike from Kevin De Bruyne, who received a pass just outside the area from Yaya Toure. Aleksandar Kolarov returned to the bench and was subbed on for Pablo Zabaleta at the hour mark, prompting Bacary Sagna to return to his favoured right-back berth. Vincent Kompany entered the fray in the dying embers for a two-minute cameo.

The Scout Says: With five strikes in his previous seven outings for the Sky Blues, De Bruyne is well on course to surpass the 16 goals he accrued in his final campaign at Wolfsburg. Priced at 10.5, the Belgian midfielder sits at a relatively modest 18% ownership, despite chalking up three goals and as many assists in his previous four starts, though that figure looks set to balloon as Man City gear up for an excellent pair of match-ups (NOR, avl) after they’ve negotiated the Manchester derby. By all accounts, Zabaleta was run ragged by Sevilla’s star man, Yevhen Konoplyanka, and looked short of fitness. There’s a real possibility, then, that Sagna is favoured over the Argentine at Old Trafford – assuming Kolarov is afforded a starting role.

Martial Earns United a Point

Anthony Martial headed his fifth goal for the Red Devils to secure a 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow, having conceded the penalty (handball) that lead to the hosts’ opener. Louis van Gaal opted to bench Matteo Darmian and Juan Mata, handing starts to Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard down the right flank. Wayne Rooney continued at the lone-striker berth, with Martial fielded on the left flank and Ander Herrera playing at the number ten.

After slamming the youngster’s β€œstupid reaction” for their hosts’ goal, Van Gaal was quick to ring his praises after the final whistle:

“Yes of course! [he is forgiven] He was playing again with a lot of threat to the opponent and he always plays at a certain level, he’s very consistent. For a 19-year-old boy I like that.”

The Scout Says: Although Martial’s recent switch to the wing has raised questions marks over his capacity to deliver returns from a deep-lying role, the France international’s superb header will afford his 29% ownership a degree of confidence ahead of the Sky Blues’ visit. In saying that, Rooney lack of impact as the spearhead of Man United’s attack may boost Martial’s chances of returning to the lone striker role. The obvious solution is to drop him back into the number-ten berth and allow Martial to lead the line, yet Van Gaal insisted after the CSKA Moscow clash that he wasn’t tempted to make that change during the match. At the back, Darmian’s near-20% ownership will be hoping he can oust Valencia from the right-back berth once again, though the latter’s assist for Martial’s header certainly helps his chances of retaining a starting berth ahead of the Italian.

Mixed News for Palace

Crystal Palace’s assistant manager, Keith Millen, revealed that Connor Wickham is once again expected to remain on the sidelines this weekend as he builds up his fitness:

“Connor is over the injury – I believe the actual calf is healed but we’ve been told we need to really build his training up. We need to get some proper work into him really. He hasn’t returned to full training yet (and is unlikely to play at Leicester). We have Fraizer Campbell and Patrick Bamford fit, so there are two options there and we’re not too bad off.”

Elsewhere in the Eagles camp, Joel Ward trained on Tuesday and could be passed fit for the Foxes clash:

“Wardy did some training with us on Tuesday and is full training on Thursday. I think, medically, he would be OK (to play on Saturday), it’s whether we feel he’s done enough training work really. The main thing is we want to get as many people fit, because we have three games in a week coming up.”

The Scout Says: Beyond Yohan Cabaye (four goals – including three penalties – and one assist), Crystal Palace’s attack has proved hard to penetrate from a Fantasy perspective, with Jason Puncheon delivering just two assists from β€œthe hole” and Yannick Bolasie notching a solitary strike. Bakary Sako looked like a great prospect earlier in the campaign – bagging two goals and one assist across his first two starts – but he’s since dropped behind a resurgent Wilfried Zaha in the pecking order. Although Wickham is unlikely to attract much investment upon his return – given that he tallied just five goals in 36 outings for Sunderland last term – Palace’s wing contingent could certainly profit from his hold-up play. As for Ward, he still ranks top among the London club’s defenders for shots on target (three), having carded two goals in his only four starts of the campaign. At just 4.5, the right-back serves as the prime route into an Eagles rearguard that’s claimed two clean sheets in three matches but faces a tough upcoming trio of fixtures (lei, MUN, liv).

Liverpool Treatment Room Emptying

Ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League tie against Rubin Kazan on Thursday, Jurgen Klopp said that Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren are all on the comeback trail, having returned to training in midweek. However, the German head coach conceded that none of the trio are fit enough to be named in the starting XI:

β€œWe have three players back in training – Benteke, Firmino and Lovren. That’s good, more options, not really starting options but for the squad. Yesterday they joined team training and it was OK. Now we will see what we need for this game, who we’ll take with us and who will stay here for more training. But, of course, it’s very good for us that these players are back.”

Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge came through a training session unscathed, so Klopp is hoping the injury-prone marksman will be in contention for a start against Southampton on Sunday:

β€œSturridge is getting better and better. Yesterday he was outside for the first time since Saturday. It was OK and the target for him is Sunday, for sure. That’s what we’ll try to do. There were no difficulties or complications. He’s a young player, a big talent and it would be cool for him if he was now with us, but he can’t.”

The Scout Says: If both Benteke and Sturridge overcome their niggles, it will be fascinating to observe how Klopp sets out his team – essentially, this weekend will be the first time that both strikers will be fit for the same league match since Benteke joined from Villa. In terms of tactics, the new Reds boss went against expectation in his first match in charge and rolled out a 4-3-2-1 instead of the 4-2-3-1 he preferred at Dortmund, with Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana tucked in behind Divock Origi. As the injuries start to ease, though, we might start to get a better indication of his intentions, with the likes of Firmino looking to finally establish himself after struggling to make an impact under Brendan Rodgers. Ultimately, the uncertainty surrounding the Reds’ attack – coupled with their challenging schedule (SOU, che, CRY, mci, SWA) – is likely to encourage Fantasy managers to adopt a wait-and-see policy for the time being.

Every week that has been said. By random chance it will happen, and you'll be the winner of the crystal ball pick of the week. A guy at that level and price should already have 3 plus goals and 3 plus assists, minimum. Why bother until he is visibly producing?

I know but for me i kept the faith in aguero and he delivered (unfortunately only for one week) and i feel the same with Haz. I know he's not a 5 goal, 1 game man but in the long run he will be getting 200 points and that's my personal belief so that's why i have him.

Yeah not implying you were one of the talkers haha πŸ™‚ But yeah there are basically a few Hazard fans who just won't stop going on about him, but 1 goal/ 2 assists/ 2 bonus points / 9 games is all I need to know lol

Obviously Hazard will come good again at some point as he's a great football player and one of the best from last season, but if people don't take into account the bad feeling happening at Chelsea right now plus him being out of favour with Mourinho plus his poor start to the season so far, then they are just ignoring facts to suit their current position which is fine, but annoying through repetition! Not much of a debate and all that πŸ˜‰

He is so overrated - without penalties he is basically a 8.0 midfielder.

Everyone saying he is going to explode - when did he explode last season? He didn't score a brace ONCE.

You had him cos he was ticking over with a penalty, two assists etc. but that is not worth 11.3 particularly since the other mid in his price bracket is averaging 15ppg over the last 3 matches.

He will get you 200 points a season or thereabouts so for me he proves his worth. I'm pretty sertain at some point this season you will have him in your team as will many others

Let's see - his form is dreadful and Chelsea's midfield are not finding him in good positions regularly.

Its one thing tearing it up in Europe against poor oppo (i.e Rooney) and another in the Prem.

I agree the prem is a different ball game to europe but it's not like he hasn't established himself in the prem. He knows what he has done wrong as do the rest of the chelsea team but that will change - no way will chelsea be this far down the league table by may - they will go up and Haz will have a big part to play in it

Everything about Gomis screams SELL. Lost 0.4 on him since I bought him 3 weeks ago (what a bad decision).

But the problem is: all my targets have a difficult game this week, and great matches after that: Lukaku, Martial and Pelle.

I had Sanchez in my team from GW3 to GW6 and he scored a total of 11 points in that period. I transferred him out for Pedro to upgrade from YYT to KDB and in the last 3 weeks he's scored 46 points. I'm still smarting from that decision, but have decided I need to bring him back in.

Only thing is, I can't decide who to swap him for - Walcott, Mahrez or Mane???

Some people are so angry about it! Yes it's quite odd to put so much time into 5 points in an FPL game, but how does it affect them?

            Aha, here's my reply!

Me too, he didn't deserve any of that vitriol. Other people will sit for months on end,, spending hours and hours on X Factor/Strictly/Eastenders/playing candy crush/taking selfies/sitting on Facebook, then they'll lose it with some guy minding his own business, playing FPL. He pointed out himself that they were taking the time to read his letter, read the articles, and reply to him - probably more time than the letter took.

It's an odd hobby from the outside I guess, but it's no more a waste of time than any other hobby. I don't watch sh*t TV, I don't play video games, I have a life and a job and friends and a fiancee and I go out and I read and I write and everything, just like a real person...

I feel sorry for him, all of us on here take FPL unusually seriously, but we are all (well, mostly) just normal people with a hobby, it just happens to be FPL.

Ahh, well that's a shame as he's one of the first posters I remember seeing on here, but you can't take things personally on here. I've had many, many posts ignored, no one has a right to presume people will take the time to reply to them, and it must be appreciated, not expected, when they do. Sad that he felt that way though.

Yeah that's cool and I appreciate that there are a lot of people who spend loads of time on here and get really stuck in as a community (personally for me if I'm honest FFS is more of a nice procrastination tool/ something to pass a cheeky bit of time at work) and I think that's great - but "Why is nobody giving me enough attention" and "Here's my 6 page essay on why it's an outrage I've been denied 5 points in fantasy football" are not exactly fun or interesting, even on a site specifically for fantasy football chat I'd say (in my opinion). I come here for the funny posters like John Terry's Dog or whoever, there's enough moaning in the world you know? Like I say, not trying to be insensitive, but not wanting to have to listen to a load of old moaning either πŸ˜‰

Wenger said Sanchez is exhausted! He won't play 90 minutes, that's for sure. The real question is. Wil he start?

I just want to remind that Wenger was not sure if Alexis should play before the Watford game.

In that case Vardy is a safe option

I was ecstatic a few years back when after captaining Bale, he was awarded a phantom assist, which worked out as an extra 10 points for me and broke the spirit of one of my mini league rivals.

Not sure...but if you're worried about a start this weekend, I'm fairly certain it'll come?

But, you're probably worried about a potential injury before bringing him in? πŸ™‚

Actually, he's started both of Spurs' europa league games so far, so yes, it's quite likely.

Keep Sturridge or replace with Vardy (free) ?

I'm worried Sturridge will play 10 minutes at the weekend and then break his shins. But he's maybe more explosive?

Vardy has a cracking fixture and is definitely more explosive than Sturridge currently is

Yeah I think it's likely, though by all accounts Zabaleta was poor last night.

I need help on defense. I bought Monreal this week to give me:

        Butland

        Monreal, Hangeland, Huth

Who would you draft in to replace the other two? I will downgrade one of my mids to improve this. Moreno could be one?

I'm moving house tomorrow so making my trades tonight. I'm looking at:
Zouma & Gomez out - Bellerin & Alderweireld in for a -4 hit.

        Butland
        Kolorov, Bellerin, Alderweireld, Williams
        Sanchez (c), KDB, Payet, Mahrez
        Vardy, Pelle

        McCarthy, Diouf, Richards, Redmond

        Am I gtg. Thanks.

tempting with fixtures against Bournemouth & Aston Villa.

Gomis --> Kane is the plan.

in a couple of weeks when fixtures improve.
Price isn't going to move too much and a 4.7/4.8 million starter in a "big" side is a huge plus.

On my radar. Got other pressing transfers to make first, and also waiting for Liverpool's fixtures to turn a little.

Think I've totally missed the best of Vardy (price rises and points) - too stubborn to double up on Leicester has cost me.

But - unless Tinkerman realises the impact of Mahrez, I'm staring at a bleak gameweek:

Sanchez, KDB, Payet (Mahrez, Sako - both doubtful starters)
        Martial, Pelle, Costa.
        1 FT, 0.3 ITB

        I've got 3-4 real options I think.

        Martial to Vardy / Lukaku
Martial and Pelle to Vardy & Lukaku (-4)
Martial and Mahrez to Vardy and 7.5 MF (-4)
Martial and Sako to Vardy and 7.0 MF (-4)
        Save FT.

I'm willing to give Martial another couple of GW's, but not sure if jumping to Vardy would benefit me in my ML (main rival has Vardy and Lukaku)

My Dear guys, front 8 looks like that
        Mata, Mahrez, Sanchez, Payet, KDB
        Vardy, Pelle, Martial
Which one to bench? Martial, Mata, Mahrez?

Mata was subbed off early last game. It might be him.

Mahrez started on the bench last game. But CPL give higher potential points.
