The return of Sergio Aguero and the cruel departure of Dimitri Payet rattled around the heads of the Fantasy Football Scout community this week. As potential turning points in our seasons, they proved the inspiration for a number of community articles and Hot Topics, which also included analysis of Arsenal’s twin midfield threat, captaincy considerations and the revelation of a brand new celebrity Fantasy Football manager. We sift through some of your most notable contributions of the past seven days, whilst checking in on some of the community tournaments in progress.

The Community Articles

Jose’s Magic Omelette returned with yet another priceless community article – this time focusing on the appeal of doubling up on Arsenal’s heavy-hitting midfield duo – Alexis Sanchez and Mersut Ozil. Once again, Jose turned to some stats and bubble charts to illustrate his work which concluded that, while Sanchez’ explosive qualities make him almost indispensable, with Fantasy managers clearing funds for Sergio Aguero, the shift to Ozil may just make sense.

TM45 undoubtedly produced one of the week’s community highlights, as he delivered the first in a two-part series examining the weekly captain conundrum. Part one took a look back at the top performers over the first 12 Gameweeks of the season, assessing their consistency and ability to deliver big points hauls. He’ll follow this up with a look at the predictable nature of returns thus far – hopefully that article is in the works soon.

Elsewhere, DailyFootballPL chose to focus on Manchester United’s blossoming defence, analysing the potential targets on offer, whilst giving his view on spending big on David de Gea and doubling up on Louis van Gaal’s defence, with either Marcos Rojo or Chris Smalling.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The international break is always a disconcerting spell for any Fantasy Football manager but at least Parm is on hand to add clarity to the situation. His pair of Hot Topics, listing those Premier League players involved in European internationals and overseas encounters, provides essential reading for those intent on tracking the knocks over the week to come.

Arguably, the most potentially significant injury has already struck home. The community’s reaction to Del Monte’s post breaking the news that Dimiri Payet would be sidelined for up to three months was suitably explosive. Immediately, Greatescape was on hand to map out the potential price drops for the mercurial Frenchman, as we prepared to watch the Payet market collapse.

As Payet’s injury forced a midfield rethink, thoughts turned to team-mate Manuel Lansing as a potential replacement, although Triggerlips appeared skeptical, prompting this Hot Topic on the merits of swooping for the Argentine.

Meanwhile, with Aguero nearing a return for City, we covered off the main dilemma’s surrounding his re-introduction, providing the catalyst for discussion on the strategy and timing of a move for the striker. That was followed by Andy85SWM’s excellent Hot Topic on Aguero’s scoring history following injury, as he looked back on the Argentine’s previous spells of absence and just how quickly he restored himself to goalscoring form.

Arvination would have us believe that there is a very viable alternative to Aguero, as he took time out to question why we’re not elevating Harry Kane to essential status given his current form. Doolittle and AK were certainly in agreement and hoping that the Spurs striker would provide a handy differential amongst the squad surgery surrounding Aguero’s return.

With funds being cleared from our squads, this nudged RoysCallerAnne to offer up an update on the fifth midfielder scenario, promoting the likes of Scott Sinclair and Jesse Lingard as the latest viable options.

Ryan was setting his sights rather higher, laying the foundations for a discussion on the perils of doubling up on Ozil and Sanchez – a subject which was followed by Jose’s Magic Omelette’s aforementioned article later this week. While Ryan was clearly hesitant acquiring twin Gunners, the likes of Zasa el Weon and Rodallegabombaldinho came down on the side of the Arsenal duo – with West Brom’s fragile Hawthorns defence a factor stacked in their favour heading into Gameweek 13

Inspired by TM45’s article on the captaincy issue, Jaffalicious turned up to stir the pot with a timely Hot Topic, asking the community to reminisce on their most memorably armband decision. Clint Dempsey, Luis Suarez, Gareth Bale and, of course, Sergio Aguero all received a name drop, although we have to reserve a special mention for Kings of Lyon’s Kolarov tale.

On a similar comedic theme, an eagle-eyed Doolittle outed Karl Pilkington as the latest celebrity Fantasy Football manager. Ricky Gervais’ one-time sidekick was found revealing his hand on Facebook – he may even be out there lurking on these pages at this very moment.

Finally, we bring you news of the latest community younglings – as Daddy Pig announced the birth of his first born. We shall see if those sleepless night’s translate to some genius 3am transfers as the season progresses. Staying on theme – SKuqi also announced that he has a delivery on the way in the New Year. Congrats all round!

The Community Tournaments

Balders has a lot on his plate right now. He started the week off by bringing us a full breakdown of the first round of his Community Grand Play Offs, with 128 managers edging through to Round Two following a Gameweek 12 average of 46. He then returned with another catch-up, as we near the start of the FIFFSA Five-A-Side World Cup – tonight saw the draw for the Qualifying Rounds and we’ll bring you more on that next week.

Jaffalicious made another appearance this week as he offered an update on the latest results from FFS UEFA Champions League competition.

Finally, in TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing competition, the safety score was 34, which saw 120 players depart and 1511 remain. Entry is open during for the international break, for more details look here.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Islam is the most misunderstood religion in todays society.

Shame that I cannot say a factually accurate statement like this without upsetting some people in an overly politically correct 2015.

Islam may well be a religion of peace, but it cannot selectively take credit for spreading peace without taking responsibility for its heavily misguided minority. This world's fastest growing religion should take serious steps and use some of its billion$+ annual donations more wisely in making sure the current toxic trends do not continue.

There, now that it is out of my system; I feel much better already.

Well, I would not say it takes credit for spreading peace anymore, it is just what people state when Islam is wrongly accused of spreading violence and crime.

As for these people, they have found this garb of Islam to defend their heinous crimes, take it off them and they will find another garb, nothing really changes that way.

I think the problem is much, much more deep-lying than just Islam.

This is the normal drill. Muslims and Islam are fair game. 'Experts' were all over the news blaming Islam/Muslims when the Norway terrorism took place. When it was discovered that it was a Norwegian Christian extremist that was reponsible, everyone stopped calling it an act of terrorism.

It is normal that Muslims and Islam will be villified. Get used to it

The IRA was way out of bounds, and believe me, the Irish are regretful and at times embarrassed when there is take of "upsets" in the north again, but they at the time were acting out of freedom, Isis aren't.

I don't think that matters really - people are tragically killed, that's what matters. If the background of a killer mattered then by that logic I should question what it means to be British because my government continues to engage in murder everyday.

I have many Muslim friends, and I'm thankful none take the Qur'an literally.

"Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection." Qur'an 9:29

Although the Bible has a lot of questionable morality in it too...

True GB, the Bible and Torah are have the exact same things. Same can be applied there, they all have horribly dangerous messages in them

Look at Hitler's Mein Kampf, he directly quotes the bible as his justification for his acts, as he is doing the work of the Lord.

It's the great problem of hermeneutics, people will appeal to religious text, misinterpret or interpret for their own justifications

The problem lies within the person, and their inability to think critically

It does apply for all religions, but society, particular modern society, don't take it anyway as literally anymore in most religions (well I speak for the Catholicism in Ireland anyway). Yet, Islam continues to grow in its 'production' of extremists.

I know this most fascinating person at my place of work.

He is completely delusional but he obviously doesn't realise that. He believes every word that comes out of his own mouth, eventhough the rest of us can obviously see that he is talking out of his @r$e. He believes that he has the ability to think at a level much higher than the rest of us... its just amazing to observe that guy. (Therefore, in response to what you've said, the problem is that these people think that they are the only ones that are truely thinking critically..)

I reckon anybody involved in this 'Paris bloodbath' would probably have a mindset somewhat similar, but at a much worse scale.

"Fight" can be interpreted in a lot of ways. Quran and the earliest islamic community allowed non muslims full freedom to follow their beliefs. Moreover, protection was provided.

wenger of all people nails religion:

“The only time possible for happiness is the present. The past gives regrets and future uncertainties.

“Man quickly realized this and created the religion. It forgives him what he has done wrong in the past and told him for the future not to worry.”

      People can have their religion.

And they can have tolerance, respect and love.

Not be driven by extremist beliefs that they are superior and others are inferior, filled with hate and ignorance towards those of another faith or race.

      That's the issue, not religion.

But fundamentally, it is unfortunately stemming back to religions. These extremists use religion as their "cushion" for want of a better word. They use their religion as a method of making their terrible acts morally correct (in their eyes at least)

I think it is an issue that is far more deep rooted than just Islam, (and religion in general), it's not on them to fix this, it's on all of us, and that can only happen with the 'powers that be' all pulling in the same direction.

If religion wasn't even a thing, these kind of people would still wreak havoc and terror under a different flag or principle, it's the life that they either chose or had thrust upon them.

I have no idea what could be done to fix it, if it's possible to change society enough so that we break the trend of self harm that we've had since the first humans started killing one another, but I know that it would take a serious upheaval and it's very deep rooted.

You're right in that "We can always rely on human beings to do the stupidest of things.", but I really hate that about us as a race, and I wish we could stop fecking things up so much.

Even if you were to somehow make everyone neutral and took away all unique identifiers that could single out any minority, I still think that people are too defensive of their individuality (and possibly rightly so) to exist along one another for an extended period of time without conflict and/or violence.. It's been the case for thousands of years.

Unfortunately I don't think this will ever happen, too many people, governments and leaders gain from conflict or the promotion of hatred. either through status, power, land , resources or wealth.
And as you say it's not about religion , like it or not we all have it within ourselves to divide into packs to either defend or attack depending upon circumstances. There have been social experiments where people divided and showed hatred towards others simply by putting them in different coloured t shirts and manipulating the situation to bring out basic survival instincts

Frustrating to watch, but as expected. You might be able to win a game or two playing with so little of the ball, but you're never going to win a tournament.

We really need to find a way of cultivating ball players. We simply don't produce any players that are good enough frankly.

We simply don't have the players to compete with superior nations on a technical level, nor the manager to compete on a tactical level.

Sterling was the only dangerous player tonight, Kane can barely do anything with such little support or quality coming into him but he showed some good hold up play at times.

Barkley/Lallana/Carrick/Delph were just completely bypassed when our defence had the ball. There is no way to effectively win games in this manner on a regular basis.

          -------------------Kane
          -------Sterling Barkley Lallana
          --------------Delph Carrick
          Bertrand Smalling Jones Walker
          -------------------Hart

Defence was particularly culpable for giving the ball away. Lack of composure throughout the team.

Kane did okay, better than Rooney has managed for a long time, but was mostly starved.

We change systems every game, throw in youngsters if they have a few good games in the PL and continue to disrespect youth level international football.

Many of the players in the squad tonight should be gelling in the Under-21's together and playing regularly.

Our players just aren't good enough on the ball when under pressure.

Teams sit off us in qualifying which is fine, but when against a good team they just press high and we can't cope.

Europe is getting scarier for every week. Extremism, islamic as well as right wing, is flourishing and caught in the middle is the largest refugee crisis since WWII. When you add unemployment rates, a revitalised nationalism and a failed currency on top of that it's difficult not to get really, really worried.
