With only a few days until the start of the FIFFSA 5-a-side world up, we would like to welcome you to the preview of the FIFFSA Five-A-Side World Cup. We have 64 teams competing and we want to thank all of you for your participation.

The Tournament Format

As revealed last week there will first be continental qualifying in eight groups of eight teams. These groups shall be a round robin where each team faces each other once and the top four teams shall qualify for the World Cup Finals, which will follow a traditional 32 team format. The eight continental groups were drawn as follows last week:

FFISAgroups

For a comprehensive explanation of the tournament rules you can read our World Cup Charter.

Pre-Tournament Favourites

While San Marino is one of the weaker nations on the footballing stage, they have assembled a vastly experienced squad and approach this tournament with 49 FPL seasons of history and in that time they have accumulated 94,793 FPL points. This is more than any other nation although they are closely followed by Iran with 48 seasons’ history and 94,764 points and Cuba with 48 seasons’ history and 91,164 points. It’s clear that these teams have a wealth of knowledge to draw from, but will the old timer’s legs be able to stand the pace of 5-a-side football in the Thai heat?

At the other end of the scale, Egypt enters the tournament with only a previous 4 seasons’ experience of FPL and 7266 points. They will surely be hoping their youthful exuberance will make up for their lack of FPL experience.

If you value quality over sheer experience, then look no further than Wales who, led by Athletic Timboyo, stand out as one of the most individually successful sides in the draw. They are the only squad to include a past FPL winner and together they have amassed an impressive six top 1k finishes as well as nineteen top 10k finishes. Hot on their heels is team Jamaica who have twenty one top 10k finished amongst the squad as well as five top 1k finishes.

Looking at this season’s early form book suggests India are another team to look out for as they have an average of 664 points each and an average rank of 15,574. They are closely followed by the USA averaging 661 points each at rank 22,930 and team Germany averaging 660 points at rank 25,571.

A more detailed summary of this can be found on the player history tab which includes the rank history of every player in the tournament at our team sheets and tables spreadsheet.

Matches

Each Gameweek teams will pick a team of five players to go head to head with their opposite nation. The match will then be decided by the aggregate score of each teams’ Gameweek scores after hits have been accounted for. This week’s games can be found here.

Captains are required to submit their team sheets to fiffsa.exec@gmail.com by 11pm (GMT) by the Friday of each Gameweek otherwise their sixth player will be automatically benched.

Live scorecards will be up shortly before the early kick-off on Saturday at our score centre spreadsheet.

If you have any further queries, feel free to ask below in the comments or email us at: fiffsa.exec@gmail.com

Enjoy the tournament; this is the FIFFSA 5-A-Side World Cup. Accept no imitations.

As a final request, please do try and keep FIFFSA 5-A-Side chat to the comment sections of our articles.

The FIFFSA Executive Committee – President Sepp Balders, VP BabyB, VP Jaffalicious!, VP Diva, VP Blue Lion and Secretary General Jerome Cheeseoid.

FPL is a simple game made complicated by double gameweek planners.

If my calculations are correct, we have two butland (12 points) coming off our bench. I think that leaves it as:

Mexico - Ward, Bolasie and 5 pts

      USA - Zaha

Definitely in your favour so congratulations if you win.

p.s. this is bookmarked for when Zaha goes nuts 😉

But yeah Skrtel should crush any chance you had.

we also have a mccarthy playing. Obviously only one of Henessey or Mccarthy will play so benched keepers will come in to play.

Bolasie hattrick on the cards!! 4-3 to sunderland so all your defenders get 0 points (nothing personal 🙂 )

    Tahiti v Malaysia unofficial update

Current official score is 326-309 to Tahiti.

But, with bench points and players remaining taken into account, and assuming McCarthy doesn't play for Palace tomorrow, by my reckoning......

Tahiti are leading by 8 points (326-318).

Tahiti have tomorrow...... Ward, Delaney, Cabaye (CPL) and O'Shea (SUN)

    Malaysia have......Dann and Souare (CPL)

North Korea would like to complain about the treatment of our players at the hands of our hosts the Dragons of Bhutan.

We feel the pitch, a virtual ice rink at 22 000 feet above sea level, was uneven and unplayable In fact so slopey in places we were forced to play in climbing boots and breathing apparatus purchased by our team for 16 points over the market price.

This is an abomination of snowman proportions and demand an investigation by FIFFSA under the fair play rules.

      ********************************************************************************************

      --------------------------------OFFICIAL FIFFSA STATEMENT-------------------------------

      ********************************************************************************************

On Sunday 22/11/2015 FIFFSA received a complaint from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea FFA alleging unfair play from the home nation Bhutan in their first AFC/OFC Group A qualifying match.

As per our protocol we sent our Chairman of the Ethics Committee BabyB to investigate. At FIFFSA we hold the American BabyB in the highest regard when it comes to finding out the truth in such matters, as he represents all that is good in the land that produced 12 Angry Men.

BabyB was extremely thorough in his fact finding trip and noted that Bhutan 'have a very cool flag' and observed that Jeremiah, the President of the Bhutanese FFA 'seemed like a decent guy' and 'wouldn't participate in such skulduggery'. He then got back on his plane to make the last 10 minutes of the USA's tie against Mexico.

Therefore FIFFSA acquit Bhutan of all allegations and as such the current scoreline between Bhutan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea stands. Furthermore the DPRK are ordered to pay for half of BabyB's travel costs for false accusations.

        _________________OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM NORTH KOREA____________________

It has come to our attention that your ethics committee representative, a certain American Mr Baby B, has conducted his investigation with a scandalous foreswearing attitude and bias towards the Bhutanese.

Furthermore it is unethical and against all international protocol to send an individual from a country North Korea has broken off diplomacy with (UN charter no. 7251 clause 4).

We also present evidence that Mr Baby B was entertained by the King of Bhutan himself and lavished with the finest wine, food and women for the entire duration of his visit. Also noted was the difficulty his aircraft had in taking off, with all the extra burden of heavy boxes and gifts loaded on to it in secret.

We are currently preparing our appeal.

        Good Day.

Team France had their arses handed back to them by Team Croatia. If Team France had in fact NOT benched their best player, and Team Croatia had benched their best, we would still have lost which is very little consolation.

At least there is next week when we play team Wales......

Having a look I think 12 points should be the target points for FIFFSA teams in order to be reasonably sure of qualification.

Some teams should qualify for the finals before Christmas!

Will teams be seeded for the Tournament proper depending on where they finish in their qualifying groups?

A CP clean sheet and an assist would also have been enough to beat us. Very unlucky. All the best in your next game.

It's three points for Peru after a heroic comeback yesterday spearheaded by Kane and Eriksen. It was a close one, but all we needed today was for Souare to secure the victory.

Well played Uruguay and bring on Colombia!

Yeah, luckily for us. But with the -8 it was the logical choice really and I guess he would do it again.

Almost benched our 2nd highest scoring player instead of myself because he was playing 4-4-2 this week, and had I done that we would have lost. Just happy to store the three points now and moving on to the next.

Okay, both the Bhutan vs DPRK and Israel vs Ireland matches have been double checked and they are indeed both draws.

Really well organised, and adds a whole new level of interest in every one of the games - either because my team has players involved or the opposition does.

I never thought I'd be glued to a CPvSUN game dreading it every time Bolaise or Cabaye got hold of the ball. Not sure my nerves are going to survive the whole tournament - since Zambia will obviously be there right until the end... 🙂

Well done Wales on a fine opening victory and commiserations to Montenegro who deservedly got battered after their poor attempt at the old trash talk malarkey. France up next, should be a blast. 🙂

Fair play to the Scots, what an amazing comeback, overturning a 73 point lead in the second half. Congratulations from Team Finland, we kinda wish we had Harry Kane now.

We thoroughly enjoyed the game though, looking forward to meeting the Russians (and having some of their Vodka after the game).

Also, special thanks to Balders, BabyB and the organizers, you're doing an excellent job keeping up with the scores and all, arvostamme sitä 🙂

Could be get away with no Man City attack this weekend?

Going Kane instead of Aguero and KdB dropping in price so going to make Aguero funds and bring in Barkley

Its surprising that many of the teams expected to do well (due to their high ranks till GW12) scored low. I'd say this was an anomalous week in FPL even though Luka and Kane were expected to score. The numbers will balance itself soon.
