In light of recent events, England and France’s show of Wembley solidarity understandably took centre stage on a busy day of international football. The likes of Gerard Deulofeu, Riyad Mahrez and Wayne Rooney were all amongst the goals yesterday, though the latter’s United team-mate Anthony Martial is an early weekend doubt after sustaining a foot injury in Les Bleus’ 2-0 loss.

Deulofeu at the Double

Gerard Deulofeu was in the goals once again last night. The Everton youngster bagged a brace for Spain U21s en route to a 3-2 win over Croatia – the first arrived from a spot-kick in the first half, while the second was facilitated by some calamitous goalkeeping.

The Scout Says: Once maligned for his lack of end product, Deulofeu is now firing on all cylinders. The La Masia graduate has netted five goals for his country over the international break and boasts superb form in the league (one goal and four assists in three outings). As Fantasy managers look to capitalise on Everton’s excellent schedule (AVL, bou, CRY, nor, LEI, new, STO), Deulofeu looks the in-form alternative to Ross Barkley – who’s bagged just one goal in seven starts. Moreover, he comes in at 0.6 cheaper than the Englishman, which is all the more pertinent as we prepare for Sergio Aguero’s return.

Mahrez Notches in Algeria Romp

Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez maintained his super start to the season after recording a goal and assist during Algeria’s 7-0 dismantlement of Tanzania.

The Scout Says: Mahrez has drawn just three blanks in 11 outings, which included a 45-minute run-out in Gameweek 4 that was curtailed due to injury. Looking at his recent output, the Algerian winger carded two goals and as many assists in his previous four starts and registered some strong underlying statistics (11 attempts, seven shots inside the box, four shots on target, six key passes) during that period. With doubts still remaining over Jamie Vardy’s availability for the weekend, Mahrez’ 58% ownership will be optimistic at the prospect of further attacking returns when Leicester make the trip to Newcastle on Saturday, given that the Magpies rank joint-second for goals conceded (13) over the last six Gameweeks.

Mixed News for United Strike Pair

Wayne Rooney doubled England’s advantage over France with a back-post volley and laid on the assist for Dele Alli’s opener in a 2-0 win over Les Bleus at Wembley last night. Meanwhile, Anthony Martial left the stadium on crutches after being substituted at the 67-minute mark because of an ankle complaint. In his post-match interview, France manager Didier Deschamps revealed:

“He is feeling quite a bit of pain… but I think it is just a knock to the top of his foot.”

The Scout Says: Rooney’s strike at Wembley will doubtless serve as a confidence boost ahead of Manchester United’s trip to Watford, but it’s hard to drum up enthusiasm for a player that’s produced just two goals and an assist throughout this league campaign. Over the last four Gameweeks, the Red Devils frontman notched just four shots inside the box – for comparison’s sake, Olivier Giroud amassed 16 in 61 minutes less. Louis van Gaal’s decision to afford Anthony Martial the lone-striker berth against West Bromwich Albion (forcing Rooney to operate from the number ten slot) bolstered his chances of attacking returns after a stint on the left flank. Undercutting Rooney by 2.1, the France international will shoot back onto our radars if he can accelerate his attacking influence (five attempts in his last four starts) and capitalise on a strong run of match-ups (wat, lei, WHU, bou, NOR, sto) – assuming, of course, that he’s passed fit for the Hornets clash. Should he be ruled out, Martial’s patient 20% ownership may decide it’s time to part company with a player who has managed just two assists in the last six Gameweeks.

Sterling Earns Three Lions assist

Raheem Sterling ensured he remained in our Fantasy thoughts after delivering the cross for Rooney’s goal against Didier Deschamps’ men at Wembley.

The Scout Says: Since scoring a hat-trick against Bournemouth in Gameweek 9, Sterling has drawn three blanks while contending with a niggling hamstring knock. Although he clocked just 182 minutes over that stretch, none of Man City’s midfield contingent managed more shots inside the box (five). Although he’s considerably cheaper than Kevin De Bruyne, (8.9 to 10.7) Sterling’s points per game (4.8) average is poorer than any of City’s pricey midfielders, with David Silva leading the way on 6.8. Indeed, the Spaniard is pushing for a return to action this weekend and, owned by just 4% of FPL managers, he looks a major differential ahead of four home matches in six.

Ayew Nets in Ghana Win

Villa’s Jordan Ayew continued his goal-getting form by scoring Ghana’s second in a 2-0 win over Comoros.

The Scout Says: Allied with his two goals in three league outings for Aston Villa, Ayew’s strike for Ghana illuminates his fine recent showings. With fellow forward Rudy Gestede rated a doubt for the weekend, the 5.5-priced Ayew is well placed to cement a regular starting berth under new boss Remi Garde, who fielded him through the middle in Gameweek 12’s goalless draw with Man City. Given that Ayew is competing with the likes of Odion Ighalo (three goals in five) and Ayoze Perez (three goals in six) in his price bracket, it’s hard to make a case for the ex-Lorient man ahead of Villa’s tricky schedule (eve, WAT, sou, ARS).

Palace Pair in the Goals

Palace midfielder Bakary Sako netted for Mali in a 2-0 victory over Botswana, whilst his domestic team-mate Mile Jedinak headed home the fourth goal during Australia’s 4-0 drubbing of Bangladesh.

The Scout Says: Wilfried Zaha’s resurgence has consigned Sako to a rotation role at Crystal Palace, stripping him of his viability as a low-priced midfielder of late. Considering Jason Puncheon’s paucity of attacking returns (zero in last nine outings), Yohan Cabaye (four goals and one assist) and Yannick Bolasie (two goals in five outings) are the two prime targets in terms of Eagles coverage, and whilst the former benefits from penalty duties and a share of their free-kicks, he’s just one booking shy of a single-match ban right now. With back-to-back home ties against Sunderland and Newcastle United on the horizon, Bolasie – who scored in both DR Congo’s recent matches – is emerging as the strongest candidate from the Eagles’ midfield.

Willian Grabs Assist in Brazil Victory

Chelsea’s in-form Willian again caught the eye after setting up Douglas Costa for Brazil’s opener against Peru with a sublime low cross. Willian was replace by Blues team-mate Oscar with five minutes remaining, whilst City’s Fernandinho was afforded 12 minutes off the bench in the second period.

The Scout Says: Although Willian has arguably been Chelsea’s top performer this season, Fantasy managers will need more than the Brazilian’s set-piece prowess (two free-kick goals in the league) to persuade them to invest. In the last four Gameweeks, Willian tallied just five attempts (two inside the box), despite squaring off against the likes of Aston Villa and Stoke City. That being said, those willing to take a punt on the 6.9-priced livewire could be rewarded in light of the Blues’ agreeable schedule through to Gameweek 19 (NOR, tot, BOU, lei, SUN, WAT)

Mane Bags Senegal Assist

Southampton wide man Sadio Mane claimed an assist as Senegal ran out 3-0 victors against Madagascar.

The Scout Says: There were doubts regarding Mane’s fitness prior to Senegal’s double-header with Madagascar, but the Saints winger went on to register one goal and two assists in the past week. Mane netted once in the last four Gameweeks but threatened to score more, considering that Sterling (10) was the only midfielder to accrue a greater volume of shots inside the box (eight) during that time frame. A home tie against Stoke City looks good on paper, yet the Potters are in the midst of an impressive run that includes a three-match unbeaten streak (two wins, one draw, zero goals conceded) on the road. In addition, Mark Hughes’ men recorded shut-outs in four of their last five fixtures, which suggests that Southampton’s attacking assets are in for an attritional afternoon.

Good News For Swans Midfielders

Ki Sung-yeung grabbed a brace for South Korea in a 5-0 victory against Laos, while Jefferson Montero picked up a goal and an assist as Ecuador beat Venezuela by three goals to one. Rounding off the trio of Swansea midfielders, Andre Ayew was passed fit for Ghana and completed the full 90 minutes against Comoros after recovering from a minor knee problem.

The Scout Says: Ki emerged as a budget differential last season by way of his eight goals and one assist, but the 5.1-priced playmaker is yet to register any attacking returns this term. Since reclaiming a starting berth from Jack Cork in Gameweek 10, the South Korea international has fired off just one attempt, underlining his limited Fantasy potential. Although Ayew scored last month at Aston Villa, his goal threat has diminished greatly of late: in the last four Gameweeks, he’s managed a paltry three attempts. Nonetheless, the Swans enjoy a quartet of favourable home match-ups (BOU, LEI, WHU, WBA) in the next six Gameweeks, offering incentive for Ayew’s 18% ownership to sit tight.

Diouf Scores in Senegal Win

Mame Biram Diouf broke free from Madagascar’s centre-backs and delivered a clinical finish to cement Senegal’s win over Madagascar.

The Scout Says: Diouf returned from injury last time out against Chelsea but had to settle for a spot on the substitute’s bench in the 1-0 home win. Jonathan Walters – who steered Ireland into Euro 2016 with an inspired brace on Monday – currently occupies the lone-striker berth and ranks top among midfielders for shots inside the box (seven) across the previous two Gameweeks, presenting us with a 5.8-priced out-of-position midfield option. Although Diouf is also comfortable playing off the right flank in Mark Hughes’ favoured 4-2-3-1 set-up, the form of Stoke’s supporting trio will likely restrict his starts for the time being, whilst Walters’ output for Ireland earlier in the week suggests he may have to settle for bench-warming duties for the weekend trip to St Mary’s.

Tottenham Midfielders Impress

Son Heung-Min bagged a brace for South Korea, Dele Alli netted a thunderous debut goal for the Three Lions, and Christian Eriksen earned an assist for Denmark during a 2-2 draw with Sweden. Having made his return from injury with Algeria last week, Nabil Bentaleb was withdrawn after 38 minutes of the Greens’ latest match-up due to a foot injury.

The Scout Says: Erik Lamela is serving a one-match suspension, meaning Son should slot back into the starting line-up for West Ham United’s visit on Sunday. The South Korea international’s classification as forward in the Fantasy Premier League greatly reduces his appeal, but his electric pace on the counter will be a welcome sight for Harry Kane’s 23% ownership. Alli (4.9) is going from strength to strength in his debut top-flight campaign, alerting Fantasy managers to his value as a budget fifth midfielder. Eriksen has turned out some stellar performances in recent Gameweeks, but his stats (seven attempts, two inside the box in four starts) are a little underwhelming for an 8.4-priced midfielder, though four home matches in six could bring him back onto our radars again.

Hammers’ Kouyate in the Goals

Cheikhou Kouyate opened the scoring for Senegal with his second international goal. The West Ham midfielder played 88 minutes for his country before being replaced towards the end of the 3-0 win.

The Scout Says: Kouyate kicked off the campaign with two goals and an assist in three starts but netted a solitary strike in his subsequent eight outings. Even though three goals and an assist is a solid return for a 5.5-priced midfielder, his stats over the last four Gameweeks (two attempts and four key passes) don’t bode well on the attacking front as the Hammers gear up for a challenging trio of fixtures (tot, WBA, mun). The injury to Dimitri Payet brings Manuel Lanzini (5.3) into contention in the Hammers’ midfield, with the Argentine bagging two goals, a pair of assists and six bonus points in the last five Gameweeks.

Hmm, reading, but has a kindle.
              TV shows, already has Netflix.
Music, all kinds and very broad.
Fantasy Football, but she'd kill me if I got her a present for it.
Travel, but tough to find trips for cheap.

Was considering buying her a feck load of gifts all at around €10 / €15, and giving her a kind of Christmas hamper thingy, but no idea what I'd put in it.

Makeup, calendar, pillow, blanket, tshirt.... 😐

How about a cool patterned drinks bottle for when she's at yoga/pilates, assuming she doesn't do it solo? Handy to have when on the go anyway or on a long trip. I've got one made by a company called Swell. Keeps things hot or cold. Mine has a wood grain pattern on it. Good for a soup at work and so on.

There's loads of cool camping accessories that would go nicely in a hamper. I've done that before, but tended to go the food route? Is she a bit of a gourmand?

Haha that would have been absolutely ideal but she just went and bought herself one of those bottles, the sly divil.

Camping accessories is an interesting idea, she wouldn't have any of it so at least it's something new and we live close enough to camping areas... Definitely worth a research 🙂

She's definitely not a gourmand, regularly has toast / cereal for dinner, but she'd appreciate me bringing her out somewhere nice and fancy, she avoids food out of laziness, not out of lack of taste 🙂

Darn it. It's almost like she knew!

If you live near picturesque areas (and it sounds like you do) it's great just to blow the cobwebs out and enjoy a hike or a stroll on a nice day. You can make a day out of it without actually camping for the night, but still get value out of the accessories.

There are SO many gadgets out there these days. You could actually buy her a blanket and a little gas stove and promise to take her out someone nice on the next day and knock up a bite to eat and just chill and talk fabtasy football 😉

Throw in a couple of more bits and you're there.

You could just buy a little picnic set. Women go nuts for that sh!t. What with all the matchy matchy 'cute' cutlery and so on. Plus if she's a perfectionist times that by 2!

Adelaide nice too (City of Churches) but a *lot* less going on.

This place has so much happening though. Whatever you're into it's here. My gfs brother is a big time surfer and there's lots of opportunity and cruising down the Great Ocean Road is a must really. There's a serious cafe/breakfasty culture that just sucks you right in. I live in a hub of cafes and bars, and quite a few of the cafes double up as bars at night. If you visited at night you would even pick it; you'd just think you were in a cool bar!

Haha sounds awesome, can't beat good breakfast places, and if you can, it would only be with good bars, so establishments that double up as both sounds kind of amazing 😛

Where did ya live previously? UK?
I'm 23 and just after starting my first job out of college, so that's what the next 2 years looks like for me, would definitely be considering it after that though, my gf is seriously thinking about Canada, but I would personally lean more towards the sun and the Aussie lifestyle..

We shall see, might meet ya over in Melbourne someday! If I ever do head over I'll try look you up on FFS 😛

Are you going to have a weak 4.5m mid as 8th attacker or having someone like Lanzini who plays all the time and gets goals/assists.....Xmas period sees a lot of rotation

He is a 5th MF with chances of exploding in the points, LVG seems to like him and he is 4.5m.

There's no denying his ability. The problem I see is when you need your 5th mid to come on, LVG will no doubt rest him the same week 🙁

Agreed. Would it be better to pay the extra 0.8m on Lanzini (who has had a few big hauls already) or better to keep your 5th MD as cheap as possible....
                Prob no right/wrong answer 🙂

I thought about Lanzini, but I think West Ham without Payet may not be able to cut through defences as easily on the break, but I am far from being an expert on WH.

Me either, just seen him bang in a few this season. Kone at 4.8m is on my radar as an alternative 8th attacker but again his rotation concerns me but his ability to explode is very appealing

this is the point that anyone taking punts on a 5th mid need to note. It's all well them doing now, but will they play when you need them to.

Hoolahan was off and on earlier this season, and when he did come off the bench for Silva he got me 13 points.

I am happy to risk losing 2 points if I also have a chance of the player hitting 8+.

I dont think we pick players that are going to be rested. Likes of Kun, Ozil, Sanchez, Mata, Coutinho, Luka, Kane etc etc have very low chance of rest. Drinkwater does take shots every now and then, Albrighton has good potential too... Its luck factor though, probablity of bench player to score something when your starter is rested is always low, atleast in my case 😛

I've heard rumours that Santa might bring PS4 or XboxOne to my son (and me) 🙂

What's the differences that I should know about or is there anything worth mentioning?

It's been a while since I've used console (ps2), so I suppose both can be used to watch netflix, youtube etc?

If I'm not mistaken xbox has better Fifa (with legends)? and they also have Forza which we have tested somewhere and really liked it.
What's the best driving game for PS4, project cars? Could it be too difficult to 6 years old?
WRC 5 seems to be rubbish and F1 has always been bit meeh.

Xbox has that kinetick thing, is it working well and has good games too (bowling, tennis etc)?
PS4 is strugling on that part?

I could also try something like Call of duty and GTA too, but I think both xbox and ps4 have those.

I was always going for safety of PS4, but my write up looks like I'm leaning other way now 😕

    Thanks 🙂

PS4 all the way mate. More powerful, games run better, looks nicer, all round trumps Xbox One.

Fallout 4 for instance suffers serious framerate issues on the Xbox One. There are some on PS4 but nowhere near as bad.

It might be with your 6 yr old tbf, but I can't think of anything worse than jumping around whilst playing games. I'm too lazy for that, ha.

Also yeah all tv and streaming apps on both consoles. You can get SkyGo on PS4 as well now too.

PS4 - better hardware specs, better framerate and resolution.

Get the C chassis though (new one) - less power hungry and quieter.

P.S. you wouldnt get a FIFA legend unless you pump enough money into it - its v rare

      I currently own both consoles....

FIFA the main difference is the legends and they are only part of Ultimate Team. I'm personally playing on XBOX just because of legends but unless you're playing Ultimate team I wouldn't worry about it.

In terms of hardware and graphics etc PS4 is considered the better of the two currently but with XBOX One switching to a Windows 10 setup they should be able to get more out of the console. The main problem is the PS4 devs made it much easier for game devs to get the most out of it for now.

If you're playing online then I can't recommend XBOX enough. PSN is horrible compared to XBOX Live - always has been.

The Kinect works really well, I've used the speech reognition and it works very nicely. Skype is great on it too.

CoD and GTA work well on both and both consoles have them.

Otherwise it really depends on the exclusives you like - have a look at the actual exclusives both consoles have.

The Xbox is by far the better family machine imo. The kids will love it. PS4 might well suit you better from a selfish point of view though.

I wouldn't worry too much about which is more powerful. The differences are negligible.

You might want to check out what the exclusives are for each though.

Ie for me I'm a big fan of Uncharted, so that would mean PS4

I have the XBOX One and my roommate has the PS4.

There is literally no difference, except for:

      A) Operating System layout (and Xbox is getting a Windows 10 update soon)

      B) Exclusive games (Forza / Halo vs Unchartered / The Last of Us)

Forza Horizons 2 is one of the best driving games I've ever played, same amount of depthe as the Forza Motorsport series, but with a fun open world and it's kid-friendly too.

If I was forced to pick one it'd be the Xbox. Mainly for the indie games.

There's nothing between the 2 though. Might as well just see which has the most games you'd want to play.

In fact in this case it's good to be a sheep and get a the one that your friends have got, so you can multiplay with people you know.

Funny though that I would have picked the PS4 for indie games 😛

          Race the Sun,
          Limbo,
          Sports Friends,
          Injustice (DC's version of Tekken),

    G2G?

    Hennessey

    Bellerin Cedric Sagna

    KDB Mane Sanchez Mahrez

    Pelle Lukaku(vc) Vardy(C)

    De Gea-------------- Barkley--Janmaat--Simpson

90% of you would start De Gea over Hennessey but I'm going with my gut.
Barkley was my Payet replacement but can't fit him in this week.

Next week, Mane + Pelle -------> £4.3m mid + Aguero (providing Aguero is fit and looks sharp)

    Sorry for repost

I have the same attacking front 7 (Lingard on the bench where you have Barkley).

I am considering getting Aguero in for Pelle also, but looking at KDB > Ozil to make up the funds. I think Mane might be a keeper this season for his price.

Question: I've been saving my Wildcard for later in the season. Have I been a massive idiot and misread / not read the new rules? That is to say, if I don't use it by 28 December, will I lose it?

Help section says: "The Wildcard chip can be used twice a season, once in the first half of the season (before 28 Dec 14:00) and once in the second half of the season." Different from last year, right?

Team looking mediocre, as it has all season. Was hoping to stage a second half of the season comeback - with double Wildcard action - like in my glory year when I finished top 1000.

        Current team (1FT, 1.3ITB, 500k OR)

        Cech / Butland
        Bertrand, Azpi, Clyne, Huth, Francis

1 CS in 6, including Villa and Brnmth. They do often make mistakes at the back, especially in set pieces, I'd avoid

Hey lads, looking for a little help here. Have 2FT & 0.4m ITB with no WC.

      Begovic McCarthy
      Kolarov Moreno Naughton Evans Targett
      Sanchez Mahrez KDB Yaya Coutinho
      Gomis Pelle Sakho

Front line is awful but had a lot of injuries/benched players to sort out. Should I look at Downgrading a City MD right down to bench fodder and look at getting Kun in ASAP?

Any ideas on where to begin with my 2FT?

        Yaya > Alli
Gomis/Sakho > Kane or Aguero - if you can afford

          could do yaya/sakho --> alli/kane

Would you pick Kane over Lukaku? Need to look at trying to get Kun too

Sakho out has to be a priority. Gomis needs to go too, but not this week. I would do:

        Sakho > Kane
Yaya > cheap 5th mid bench fodder like ali, watson, surman

Next week upgrade one of your defs like naughton, evans, targett.

Should I not be putting money aside for Kun or is it too early?
          Kane over Lukaku ?

Yes you should start thinking of aguero. Lukaku if you're counting the pennies, Kane if not.

Smalling, Bertrand, Clyne, Kolarov, Huth here.

Wish I had Moreno instead of Clyne to save some money. Kolarov probably going soon - downgraded.

Too much of a shift round to make that work over too short of a period.

Kane, Lukaku and Ageuro will make sure i can't do that.

        Koscielny - Coleman - Kolarov - VvD - Francis

        Soon to become:

        Koscielny - VvD - Alder/Rose - Moreno - 3.9

What's the significance of Winter, Daniel?

Are you referring to the idea that bigger teams tighten up in the second half of the season. I believed that for a while but someone (3rdTurd or similar stats-guru) made a community post over the summer showing that it wasn't true.

            Ah, I see.

I think maybe I misinterpreted it as getting three or four really big guns (though how many are there now?) and paying for it with midfield compromises.

Yeah, Glover's blog showed it was true for the two seasons he looked at. I took it as a fact until the other guy then looked at more data - ten seasons - and showed that it didn't hold true. Those two seasons look more like a weird throw of the dice in context.

I'll try to dig it out somehow.

Shame really, it was a nice-looking theory that could have given us an edge.

So, early thoughts, and assuming everyone is fit:
      1. Bench 2 of Bellerin, Naughton, Ighalo, Sanchez, KdB
      2. Captain Vardy or Ozil?

      1. Paulie Walnuts
        • 10 Years

        Naughton, ighalo

        Vardy

1 - Bench Naughton, Ighalo (fairly straight forward that one)
2 - Vardy, cheer him on for the record.

        1. DaveVak
          • 13 Years

Got a feeling that Ighalo may score. i'm actually tempted to play 4-4-2 as Naughton can keep a CS against Brnmth, while Kdb and Sanchez blanking.
Also feel ARS can hammer WBA, while Vardy will score that 1 goal for the record and that's it. Will keep thinking I guess.

Newcastle were awful last GW. If you play naughton over sanchez or KDB then that's just a bit daft really.
