      Pelle to Kane.
Kane plays 90 mins, and doesn't get injured.
Kun never plays full 90 and prone to injury.

Still not convinced by 1 good game from Firminho and Coutinho may be injured.

  4. The £7m midfield sweet spot
    • 12 Years
    10 years, 3 months ago

Remember how in pre-season we all had to have a £7m "sweet spot" midfielder, well this is how they're all doing now:

    £7.1m:
    Ayew 74
    Wijnaldum 68
    Tadic 65

    £6.9m:
    Barkley 72
    Willian 41

    £6.8m:
    Lamela 40
    Nasri 15
    Mirallas 5

    £6.7m:
    Cabaye 58
    Chadli 28

    £6.6m:
    Milner 40
    Herrera 37
    Shaqiri 26
    Schweinsteiger 26
    Henderson 7

What a horror show that ended up unless you got Ayew on an early WC...

There were big arguments between the Milner camp and the Hendo camp. I think most of the Milner arguments centred around his monster stats playing a few games up front for City.

The whole team has looked like a mess for big parts of tge season. And the link up between him and Gomis has been awful. Also believe that Ayews role is ruining for Siggy.

I could do Ighalo to Lukaku for a minus 4 this week, but not sure. Opinions of the vastly knowledgable DZ would be welcome.

    My current team is:

    DDG / McCarthy

    Mahrez, Sanchez, ozil, Westwood, Barkley

    Vardy, Kun, Ighalo

Fair enough if you're set on keeping him, I just think there's a wealth of options who'll do almost as well at the back for at least a million less like Walker and Moreno for starters.

    Question for the DZ

Now a third of the way through the season, how do we feel about the distribution of baps? (Try and keep it serious :D).

I think things have swung the other way a little too much and defenders are being too heavily rewarded.

The Leicester match against Palace is a perfect example: Leicester won 1-0, Vardy scored and Mahrez assisted (again, for the only goal in the match), and neither got a single bonus point.

Missing Champions League midweek but hopeful for the weekend.

Hopeful for the weekend seems to be the soundtrack to his life 🙄

If he'd come through completely unscathed I'm sure LVG would have given him the night of midweek anyhow. Kid gloves no question.

Seriously though I think it's done really well at the moment, though if I'm being picky, I think a couple of bits are suspect.

For instance I think a Key Pass should be 2 points, not 1 and "open play crosses" shouldn't be rewarded, especially not unsuccessful ones.

You're right on the crosses part, for unsuccessful ones that is

Devil's advocate; the success of a cross is determined by a number of factors, some complete in fact prior to the release of the ball, and some afterwards.

If you are looking to reward individual actions you can see the logic for not having bps contingent on other 'moving parts'.

          • 12 Years
          10 years, 3 months ago

But then why reward key passes but not say all final third passes? Anybody can chuck in a cross without looking and generally crosses have really low success rate.

The justification may be that low success rate i.e. many crosses that illustrate wonderful skill and accuracy are not met by a team mate, because of the left-right movement, rather than the up-down where there typically far fewer obstructions.

Passing even in the final-third has a high completion, so it's reasonable to deduce that a skilled player has a good degree of control over that.

              • 12 Years
              10 years, 3 months ago

Waaaah? Low success rate cannot be a justification for rewarding every attempt. It's the fact that they're long distance aerial balls that makes them a low %age play. Why reward bad plays?

It's an acknowledgment that the nature of crossing is a high-risk activity and that success is determined by many events beyond the control of the player executing the cross. Yet it is still a tactic adopted by many coaches and specialised in by a number of players. It keeps them relevant when it comes to competition for baps.

(Just to remind you, I am devil's advocate here. Thanks for making some specific points. Just what I was after :))

I mean I'd be happy with successful crosses getting say +2 or +3 BPS points but Tadic shouldn't get 5/6 BPS a game for whipping them in hopefully.

Yeah, its why better teams often prefer to keep it on the floor and work it into central positions, or drive the T of the baseline/edge of the box and play cut backs.

Yeah, Arsenal an obvious epl example.

Probably why Pelle only useful at home. Greater control of possession, more liky to get through a high number of crosses and see him get o. The end of a couple

Yes. My thoughts just from watching football is that 25% would be pretty much the ceiling, unless you are Beckham crossing to Ferdinand and Shearer.

                  Did a quick Google and seems about right;

I'd interest to see those figures from different areas of the pitch and the result in instances where the receiving player did connect.

Works very well now imo - GKs get their fair share, even CDMs picking up the rare bonus - their work was never rewarded.

I'm with Balders regarding unsuccessful crosses. Not aligned with the rest of the BAPs criteria (all success based, not attempt based)

It's very biased against forwards. A striker who scores an important goal often gets less baps than defenders in the same game who do nothing but get a CS + a few interceptions.

Strikers get 24 BPS for a goal and 3 BPS for a winning goal. If they can't beat a defender it either means that the defence made a lot of CBIs and tackles or the striker shot off target/caught offsides. Braces almost always guarantee full baps as well

Whoa just realised I could do

    Ighalo, Vardy, KDB, Smalling, Bellerin

    to

    Lukaku, Kane, Barkley, Rojo, Ward

This might have to be a serious plan for the next few weeks.

this will give me a forward line of Aguero, Lukaku Kane

and a midfield of Sanchez, Ozil, Mahrez Barkley. Defence will stll have Dawson Alderwield Rojo Nyom and Ward.

It doesn't look the greatest right now i agree, but if kane and lukaku keep their form and vardy and ighalo drop off a bit, i think it would be more than worth it. Will monitor closely the next couple of weeks.

So you are clearly downgrading three spots (Smalling and Bellerin to Rojo and Ward), probably downgrading another (KDB to Barkley), getting rid of a guy who's scored in ten straight matches, and also getting rid of a great enabler in Igahlo. I'm not sure this is a great plan. Maybe you can figure out another way to get Kane in, like just downgrading KDB.

Uh oh...it's like slowly realising you're becoming a vampire and knowing you can't stop it (well, I imagine)

You might still be a hipster but not a sheepster.

Do you dig Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats?

Ah I'm never gonna meet the music requirements. I have started going on watching some local acts of late, but my general knowledge is not up to scratch!

    Kolarov to Coleman. Thoughts?

Not a fan tbh, I wouldn't let a CS vs the worst attack in the league distort your view too much on Everton's very real defensive mishaps vs half-decent attacks this season. It's an expensive gamble imo, I wouldn't do that move until Everton muster a solid showing vs a decent attack.

Thanks for your comments. Coleman looked fantastic this weekend, really a goal threat and kolarov might be getting a rest soon.

I'd consider the cheaper entries in the Spurs backline as well, goal threats with great underlying stats & for 5.0m you get a ticket to one of the top three defenses. Plum fixtures to boot.

Wait and see whether Kolarov gets rotated.

Kolarov put in 13 crosses in the last GW, Coleman had 2, while both had 0 shots. Also ManCity have a better chance of CS than Everton in most weeks.

So if Kolarov starts getting rotated, then Coleman is a decent option, but if he remains nailed on then it is a shambolic transfer.
