Our Wednesday Weekly Shop regular is rolled out this evening, as we assess the player lists of our partner games to pinpoint the likely targets that will make up our weekend lineups.

The player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re scanning the players lists in our two partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt.

Better Buys

Manuel Pellegrini will be looking closely at his defence after the 4-1 rout against Liverpool. Joe Hart (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 8.8m) was the only member of the backline to shine, making six saves to keep the score relatively respectable, though with Nicolas Otamendi surely set to return and Vincent Kompany edging towards a comeback, City could be a little more resolute this time around, given that visitors Southampton are missing top scorer Graziano Pelle due to suspension.

Despite his defensive lapse leading to Jermain Defoe’s winning goal on Monday night, . Scott Dann (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.8m) remains capable of picking up points at both ends of the pitch. Opponents Newcastle visit Selhurst Park having scored just twice on the road in six outings, making a double-up with Wayne Hennessey (FantasyBet 4m, Premier Punt 5.5m) a viable tactic as Alan Pardew looks to get one over his former club.

Philippe Coutinho (FantasyBet 8m, Premier Punt 11.8m) has four goals and an assist in Liverpool’s last three matches, demonstrating Jurgen Klopp’s positive influence on the Brazilian. If fit, a home tie against a Swansea side that have been lacklustre in recent weeks offers a chance to add to that record, particularly when there are signs that the Brazilian is striking up a highly effective partnership with compatriot Roberto Firmino (FantasyBet 8.5m, Premier Punt, Forward 11.5m) for the Merseysiders.

Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have all been in excellent form of late, which has somewhat kept Olivier Giroud’s (FantasyBet 9m, Premier Punt 12.3m) recent exploits off the radar. The Frenchman has four goals in five league matches for Arsenal and, given that he has scored in four consecutive away outings, a visit to Norwich makes the Gunners striker a differential worth considering.

Poundstretchers

After an inauspicious start to the season, Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, Premier Punt 6.8m) now has a formidable five shut-outs in six appearances for Stoke. The keeper travels to a Sunderland side struggling to find an attacking edge in front of their own fans – the Wearsiders have managed only 58 attempts at home so far, the joint worst record in the league. Only Costel Pantilimon (54) has made more saves than the Potters’ number one (51), so a goalless draw would not be a surprise here.

Alberto Moreno (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.5m) offers a secure route into the Liverpool backline as they welcome a Swansea team that have failed to net in three of their last five – only Aston Villa (22) have had less than the Swans 23 shots in the box over that run. As highlighted in the Scout Squad article, the left-back is providing promising numbers, with his frequency of key passes (one every 40 minutes) the best in the league for defenders.

Yohan Cabaye (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m) and Yannick Bolasie (FantasyBet 6.5m, Premier Punt 7.6m) may have blanked against Sunderland but they still look to be worth investment against Newcastle at those prices – Palace fired 19 attempts last Monday and were unlucky not to find the net. Another budget midfield option with a potentially profitable home fixture is Manuel Lanzini (FantasyBet 5.5m, Premier Punt 7.9m). The Argentine’s consolation at Spurs took his tally to three goals in the last five Gameweeks ahead of a home encounter with West Brom.

Watford’s Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5m, Premier Punt 7.4m) is the stand out striker in the budget category this week. The Nigerian travels to Aston Villa with seven goals and three assists to his name already and is heavily involved in most of the Hornets’ attacking play. Given that Villa have conceded 11 times in their last five outings, Ighalo looks a likely source of points once again.

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the weekend. I’ll return on Friday with a further assessment of this week’s partner games – FantasyBet and Premier Punt, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

Did I make q mistake getting in Firmino over coutinho? I want coutinho but was afraid he would miss this weeks game. I guess I ca stil transfer him in in a couple of weeks but would seem like a waste of a ft.

Impossible to say now. If he remains as striker for the next few games you've made a great call. Very low ownership at this stage too. On balance given Cout is injured and Firmino looks undroppable on current form, I think you've made the right call

I remember for large parts of last season Ozil was playing out on the wing and even the season before that he played a lot out wide.

I always wondered why an awesome number ten was being wasted out wide and all the media etc going on about his workrate.

Now he is playing number ten and look at him!

If he starts playing wide again and vanishes the pundits won't have a clue why his form has dipped mark my words.

City will murder the Saints by 4 or 5. All the non Aguero owners are mad. All the Aguero owners that are non cappers are also mad.

Take a step back from all your stats and PPG malarkeylarky stuff that goes on around here.

Take another step back if a -4 or a -8 is stopping you from getting Aguero in Vs SOT.

Don't see it really mate. Quite a few City players are in iffy form, and if Hart is out as well as Kompany it could, God forbid, actually become a contest.

1 goal scored in their last 3 games.

They will always be capable of putting in several on their day, but there isn't all that much to suggest that day will be Saturday imo

Actually become a contest? An attack capable of gret things occasionally.

Saints have a more than decent defence.

City were put in their holes at home by a weak enough Pool team last weekend.

I see it as the difference between getting a Aguero over a Costa, or a Barkley over a Lanzini, come the 2nd wildcard

So Paul Scholes is calling out Bastian for playing too far back on the pitch. I see where he is coming from, but I also see why Bastian plays from the back. He is a major reason for the defense, more so Smalling, being so sound this season. He links up play and covers the gaps; overall I think Bastian is really smart with his build from the back approach. However, I also see where Scholes is coming from, with Bastian and Carrick/Schn all being defensive minded, they really can't go up top and support the striker/wingers. Truly believe that a player like Isco, Muller/Bale/Ronaldo (obviously) is the only thing needed at this point in order to break down teams. Bastian is used to having players like Muller, Ribery, and Robben terrorize defenses, which is why it was easy for him before to justify his defensive approach. United need one all-star up top and then things will start changing because right now they obviously do not have the collective quality up top to beat top teams day in and day out. Imagine having either Depay, Martial, Mata, Rooney, or Mata come off the bench for say Bale or Isco. Dare I even say Ronaldo.

Very true... Scholes makes a good point but totally understand what you are saying. At the end of the day... Bastian is a professional and he would be doing exactly what LVG is saying to do... end of story.

Schweinsteiger is experienced enough to know how he should be operating and professional enough to carry out orders.. If he is playing deeper than he should which of course he is then he is doing exactly that because he is being told to do so..

We could go out in the summer and sign Bale and Ronaldo and the expression would be sucked out of both.. they too would be asked to sign up to this possesion is everything take no risk and keep the ball whatever you do bullsh1t..

Yeah, he has the tactical discipline and intelligence for the role that he is given.

He seemed pretty able to support the forwards on Saturday, when it was required.

In general, yes. If we're on about the PSV game specifically though then he was deeper than he should have been and left the attack isolated. LVG said as much after the game.

Thats interesting that he singled out Schweinsteiger for that.. im guessing he didnt mention that Rooney was the main culprit in dropping deep and leaving Martial alone in attack time after time..

And i wouldnt mind if Rooney coming deep for the ball if he actually did something positive with it but watching him again and again drop take the ball from the centre midfielder get it out of his feet and ping a holywood ball out to the right hand side that 9 times out of ten is headed clear by an opposition defender is soul destroying

Depay, Martial, Mata, Rooney, Lingard are all decent players, just not clicking yet. Van Gaal is pragmatic and making United difficult to beat. Martial, Depay, Lingard will have their time before the season is out. As for Schweinsteiger he's past his best and Carrick passed his best beore him. Years and injuries have taken their toll, there mire for leadership than quality. Schneiderlin is the class def mid in that team. And a team doing alright without getting close to it's potential this season. Faraway hills are not always green. Isco is no improvement. Not a goalscorer a mid who scores a few goals, unlike Bale or Ronaldo. He's not even nailed on for Real. Bale would improve things. Ronaldo would too but short term for ridiculous money and also past his best.

Herera should start every game for United. Can't understand why LVG seemingly diesn't rate him.

Ridiculous money for a player past his best when they could buy three or four emerging talents who are better for the club in the longterm.

What do Aguero owners and non owners think after last night?

Suppose on the one hand you can say.. glad he got through 70 mins. He ll be better off for it etc..

On the other you could say.. he looks a good bit of sharpness yet and is unlikely to go mad this coming GW at least.
As a non owner I am relatively saisfied for now.

Hopefully it will take him 2/3 weeks to really find his feet..
If he remains relatively quiet until then.. it will be ok.

Kane/Lukaku will hopefully match him over those GW's.

I'm just glad to have in my team with 0.0 itb, don't fancy him as a captain this week, the team feels too disjointed as a whole, think he will play around 65, from next week onwards I really fancy him, had to bring him in for Vardy now to save at least .2 and figured nows the time, with Vardy playing United, he should blank, so even if Kun blanks, the team is set and would have saved .3 or .4 than everyone else playing it too cautious

Changed Martial/ Pelle in the last 2 weeks.
It wasnt worth moving for Aguero as Id have needed further hits.

Bringing in and Captaining Kane last week worked a treat ( luckily).

I can think about Aguero in a few weeks time.
Nothing to do with cautiousness in my case!!

I wouldn't really have wanted him to score a hat trick against Juve because then everyone would get him in. Didn't see the game though

always felt GW 18 was the time to jump back on Kun and nothing has changed.. not only is he not fit enough for 90 minutes or 2 -3 games in a week but there are also better captaincy options up until then at least on paper.. id bank not only on Kane/Lukaku matching him but blowing Kun out of the water over this time tbh
