A trio of new protagonists toppled off the Suspension Tightrope over the weekend’s ten fixtures. Palace wide man Wilfried Zaha, West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob and Villa defender Ciaran Clark were the guilty parties, with all three set to miss Gameweek 15 as their clubs do not have midweek Capital One Cup fixtures to bail them out.

Zaha was booked for simulation just three minutes before scoring his first goal since the opening day of the season – he now misses the upcoming trip to Everton a week tomorrow. Yacob earned an 81st-minute yellow during the Baggies’ draw at West Ham, whilst Clark finally succumbed to the high wire with a fifth booking, more than two months after collecting a fourth yellow card in the Capital One Cup third round. The Villa centre-half was the second player in the top-flight to reach four cautions but had been hampered by fitness and selection issues ever since. He’s been named in all three of Remi Garde’s starting XIs, though, and will now miss the upcoming visit to Southampton.

Ryan Shawcross also received a one-match ban. The Stoke skipper collected two yellows in a five-minute spell either side of half-time for fouls on Steven Fletcher and Duncan Watmore as Mark Hughes’ men fell to a 2-0 defeat at Sunderland. He’ll miss the Capital One Cup Quarter Final against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek but will be available for next week’s tough home encounter with Man City.

Post-match, Hughes slammed the decision to send his captain packing as Stoke lost for just the second time since Gameweek 5:

“I think the referee didn’t show any common sense really and should have given Ryan the benefit of the doubt. Ryan feels he got a nick on the ball before the lads gone down so I’m disappointed from that point of view. The referee, on the day, didn’t perform as I’ve seen him perform before; unfortunately he got the awarding of the free kick that led to their first goal wrong as well. Those are the key moments in the game that change it and unfortunately they were negative for us.

Elsewhere in the same match, Erik Pieters joined Alex Tettey at the top of the Tightrope charts with his sixth booking – no Premier League player has more this season.

There were five new additions to this week’s Tightrope. Bournemouth’s Dan Gosling joined team-mate Matt Ritchie to double the number of Cherries on the wire. Stoke’s Charlie Adam picking up a fourth yellow for a crunching challenge on Lee Cattermole at the Stadium of Light, whilst Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue also saw yellow in yesterday’s fixtures.

Spurs defensive duo Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker joined them today, meaning that 18 players now sit just one caution shy of a single-match suspension. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have now received 33 bookings in the league this season – that’s more than any other side, with Liverpool (32) and West Brom (30) next in line. In the case of the first two in particular, their penchant for pressing opponents is clearly incurring the referees’ wrath.

Seven players will return from bans in time for Gameweek 15. Graziano Pelle, Lucas, Jonjo Shelvey, Chris Brunt, Robert Huth, Mark Noble and Dele Alli are available once again after falling off last week’s Tightrope, whilst James Collins comes back into contention for West Ham, having sat out a three-match ban.

Last time I went with an expensive replacement for an expensive injured player I got Costa in for his 12-pointer v Villa...

...but then again before that I brought in van Persie last season ahead of the Christmas schedule.

I don't know your team, but let's say you own Aguero and he gets injured, but you haven't got KDB. Wouldn't you then maybe want KDB instead of Hazard?

Entirely hypothetical scenario of course, but lots of things could happen that could make Hazard not look like the best replacement.

I own KDB already and I don't get the relevance of why an Aguero injury is making me want to buy KDB.

Sanchez has to go, I know who I want.

I may lose 0.1 tonight though and I know I'll want Ozil. Only thing stopping me is that there is no confirmation how long he's gone for even though I know realistically he won't be back for three weeks at least. That's the way hamstring injuries usually are.

Because you do it consistently you end up with a collective mix of players that others simply can't afford to put together.

I'd be staggered if he played next week. Best fixture in Arsenal's good run so i'm selling now and pocketing the value. He was losing value before the injury anyway, due to his form. Campbell and Ox also back so Wenger can finally rest him. People who do early transfers aren't amateurs or stupid, they just play a different way.

It didn't look great demi I agree but why do the transfer to save 0.1, maybe do it mid week, as from past experience the higher TV teams cannot grantee success but may help

          • 15 Years
          10 years, 4 months ago

Yours is undoubtedly the sensible option of the two, but not always the right one. Some people just have a different style to playing and transfers, you have to respect and accept that. Higher TV is not the be all and end all but it always helps. Everyone's teams are different, i can afford another injury even if i do the Sanchez move, as i have 8 playable attackers and another ft. Won't be the same for everyone, but nothing wrong with selling early, and i don't think him being the most expensive mid in the game should be a factor to wait, his injury doesn't sound good from here.

Liverpool fans suggest he was poor yesterday (I couldn't watch), but he'll be a different animal with Coutinho next to / behind him. It will be interesting to see what happens now that both Sturridge and Henderson are back though.

I got him in last week, fwiw. If I had to choose now: Coutinho, 100%.

Highly unlikely - a lot of rotation will occur. I'd say Coutinho will be the most consistent in terms of minutes.

I have got Firmino too. We need to see how he plays next week with Coutinho in the team they both play well together. As Stykes said he is a different Animal with Coutinho assisting him. He can be a good differential in the coming weeks i feel.

Of course but you're playing the game and at the moment the game is lacking the elite players that tie up your budget that force you to have definite 5th mids or 3rd strikers.
Wakey might be pushing the bar a tad high mind you but I agree totally with him.
Using that money on ..say benching Ighalo every week is at least increasing your team value.

It's crazy. They've had good fixtures in the past that has resulted in absolutely nought.

Haz played well today against Spurs although only 3 points. I'm not saying hes back but Bournemouth are in dire straights with injuries.

What's the deal with Sanchez? Why is everyone getting rid of him? Is he out for a while?

You need to replace injured quality with quality not an injured punt like wally imo

You are probably right, but sking punts is fun and moves like this can be game changing

I can't understand getting Hazard in. He hasn't scored in his last 20 games.

I have been watching him closely and he has been ok at best, with no end product.

He played ok against Spurs but no better than Willian, Oscar or Pedro.

The smart money will be on Willian getting a haul hometo Bournemouth.

    Ozil / Mahrez / KDB / Tadic / Coutinho
    Vardy / Lukaka / Ighalo

Chelsea players are risky. Value wise they are bad/mediocre and, although chelsea have improved recently, they don't instill much confidence. Im considering haz, but only when there is a more prominent turn in form
