Our Saturday morning regular brings a couple of Arsenal and Man City midfielders onto our radars ahead of favourable Gameweek 16 encounters. Stokeโ€™s former Barcelona frontman is also under analysis after Mark Hughesโ€™ tactical tinkering helped the Potters overcome City last time around.

Theo Walcott

Having been sidelined for five matches with a calf injury, Theo Walcott (8.3) earned a 27-minute cameo last Gameweek against Sunderland, before being thrust back into the starting XI for Arsenalโ€™s 3-0 victory over Olympiacos. Although Olivier Giroud has locked down the lone-striker berth with his recent form (five goals in seven league ties), injuries to Alexis Sanchez and Santi Cazorla (shifting Aaron Ramsey centrally) have diminished the Gunnersโ€™ depth on the flanks โ€“ augmenting Walcottโ€™s starting potential.

Even in the event that the Southampton academy product is eased back into contention with another substitute outing, his searing pace against fatigued legs always renders him a threat in the dying embers. Moreover โ€“ for all his injury travails โ€“ Walcott is remarkably efficient with the pitch time he is afforded, as evidenced by the fact heโ€™s produced a goal or an assist (43 goals, 40 assists) once every 102.9 minutes since the start of the 2010/11 campaign.

In spite of Arsenalโ€™s depleted squad, Walcott will slot back into a side that fashioned three more big chances (13) than the rest of the field over the last four Gameweeks. Additionally, Arsene Wengerโ€™s troops rank second for goals (16) and top for shots on target (44) in road clashes, which bodes well for their attacking potential against an Aston Villa team that recorded just one clean sheet in their previous 14 match-ups.

Raheem Sterling

Raheem Sterling (8.9) steered Manchester City to victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday with a three-minute brace, reaffirming his viability as a mid-priced alternative to Kevin De Bruyne. Although the latter serves as the prime route into the Sky Blues midfield based on current form, De Bruyneโ€™s recent paucity of goal threat (two attempts in four outings) widens the scope for Sterling to creep into contention if he can build upon a eye-catching display in the Champions League.

Over the last four Gameweeks, the former Liverpool starlet charts top among Man Cityโ€™s roster for attempts (10) and shots inside the box (seven) and joint-top for shots on target (three). This is not just a recent trend either: across the entirety of the campaign, Sterling places second (30) โ€“ behind Yaya Toure (38) โ€“ for attempts, first for shots inside the box (23) and first for shots on target (13). Furthermore, heโ€™s amassed 54 more penalty-box touches (89 compared to 35) than De Bruyne, which suggests heโ€™s more inclined to drift into dangerous areas.

There will be a determination among the Man City camp to avenge their 2-0 loss at the hands of Stoke City and turn out a potent display at home to Swansea City. Aside from the fact that the Swans are without a manager and tasted victory just once in the last 11 Gameweeks, the Sky Blues will draw encouragement from their table-topping haul of goals (23), attempts (150), big chances (26) and shots on target (59) in home fixtures ahead of this afternoonโ€™s showdown.

Bojan Krkic

In the wake off five league ties that harvested just two goals, Mark Hughes elected to reshuffle Stoke Cityโ€™s attacking quartet for their home tie against Man City, fielding Ibrahim Afellay at the number ten slot and pushing Bojan Krkic (5.1) up to the lone striker berth. That tactical shift ultimately brought about a 2-0 win and the Pottersโ€™ most impressive performance of the campaign, with the incisiveness of their fluid attack causing all manner of problems for the Cityโ€™s disorganised rearguard.

Although Bojan managed just a solitary attempt last weekend, the proficiency of Stokeโ€™s team play bodes well for his Fantasy prospects ahead of an easier pair of match-ups (why, CRY). Notwithstanding the calibre of their opposition, Mark Hughesโ€™ men carded the joint-most big chances (four) in the previous Gameweek, so theyโ€™ll be relishing the opportunity to face off against a Hammers defence thatโ€™s managed one clean sheet in ten and is without the qualities and leadership of Winston Reid.

Bojan faces stern competition from Troy Deeney (5.2) in the budget-forward bracket, yet Watfordโ€™s schedule beyond a trip to Sunderland this weekend (LIV, che, TOT, MCI) throws up serious question marks regarding his long-term prospects. Now that the Spaniard’s allure isn’t restricted by a deep-lying berth, the stage is set for Bojan to stake a claim as the next budget frontman to come under consideration.

That press conference giving by LVG may be the beginning of the end for him. What a way to alienate the fans. His comments were just as bad as Moyes saying we aspire to play like City.

Lost patience with him tbh. He's spent lots of money and makes an excuse that other teams are doing the same. Teams have spent a fraction of our transfer budget and still play more attractive football.

Rebuilding an entire squad takes time. Moyes was a horrendous choice but they backed a proven manager in LVG. To give him the boot half way through his contract would be ridiculous.

As far as buying big isn't clever, tis the way of the world in football now. Regardless of buying big or small title winning squads aren't put together in a year.

Pep's the natural succesor to take over from LVG if the club intends to develop this 'ethos' of play being installed. However LVG is contracted for 3 years. Pep really wants us then take another year sabbatical.

Yeah, Utd are in total crisis now, 4th place and 3 points off the top plus building arguably the tightest defence in the league so they don't concede even when they aren't playing well is a ludicrous plan.

So unlike Ferguson who always played such attacking free-flowing football...

...which is of course an incredible amount of guff. Only the most blinkered of Utd fans would be able to believe that Ferguson didn't spend a good deal of his tenure grinding out results on the back of a solid defence and biting midfield with the flair supplied by one of two stars.

The difference here is that the stars with LVG acquired or retained (Di Maria, Depay, Mata, Martial, Rooney, Falcao) haven't managed to deliver in the way Cantona, Beckham, Giggs, Ronaldo, Van Nistelrooy) have. Also Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger have yet to really fill the Keane/Butt/Scholes roles.

This may be down to picking the wrong players, or it could equally be down to the players needing time to gel (again Ferguson didn't exactly fly out of the traps). I also think its fair to say that the league is simply far more competitive now than when Utd were last bossing it. City and Chelsea are able to match or even surpass Utd financially in player/staff recruitment, Arsenal and Liverpool aren't far behind and the latest influx of cash has allowed everyone else across the league to raise their game in this area and bring in higher quality players and crucially also attract the very best managers.

This isn't to apologise for LVG, to do down Ferguson or even celebrate Man Utd, just trying to add some sanity to a ludicrous debate. In his first season LVG restored Utd to the champions league, this year he's aiming to go better and challenge for the league. Obviously I'm sure Utd fans would prefer to be winning every game, but that's not going to happen for anyone in this league for anyone now. I don't think even Barcelona, Madrid or Bayern would be able to walk the PL.

I have Lukaku, Vardy and Ighalo

Ighalo to Kane (a) this GW or (b) next GW??

I think Ighalo will score against Sunderland so I'm reluctant to do it this GW

        Thanks

Keep ighalo and access next week. Might be worth keeping long term despite the fixtures

Ighalo been playing well this season I got rid after a few games - I should have kept him he has been one of the best value players through the season up to now. He has tough fixtures coming up so I will not invest.

I have Lanzini and was going to save Ft. With KdB at risk of being rested should I transfer out Lanzini to cover myself?

Or just use VvD and Simpson from the bench?

        Butland Gomes
        Bellerin Moreno Toby (VvD Simpson)
        Coutinho Ozil Mahrez KdB (Lanzini)
        Vardy Kane Lukaku

        Struggling about my middle,

        A) Ozil- Mahrez - Duelofue
        B) Ozil- Mahrez - Mata
        C) Ozil- Mahrez - Coutinho

Already have Lukaku - Vardy - Ighalo on the strike

Is Ighalo worth keeping long term? If not then I don't see a reason to hold my FT on not taking Kane.

Looks like the big battle this week will be between Kane and Igahlo owners.
Lukaku + Vardy seem permanent fixtures (I really can't bring myself to lose either) and then it's either Igahlo or Kane in the final slot. I've got the former and would need a hit to swap up, so I'm probably staying put. Feels like a bit of a gamble though not to have Kane in somewhere.

I missed Aguero and Lukaku's hauls so I am really nervous about Kane here.

Is Ighalo worth it long term or are we transferring him out in 2 weeks max? If it's the latter then I think I should use my FT to do Ighalo >> Kane

** this ** I can get Kane for a FT and feel like I might miss something big from him but Ighalo has the form so I can't bring myself to do it. Ighalo's record against the bigger clubs isn't v good though so perhaps now is the time to get rid...
