Southampton and Arsenal round off the festivities with their head-to-head at St Mary’s Stadium. Saints lost four of their last five league clashes and are winless in five, while the Gunners tasted defeat just once in the previous 11 Gameweeks.

Notwithstanding their table-topping haul of attempts (61) and shots inside the box (41) over the last four Gameweeks, Southampton ranked third-bottom for goals (two), registering the third-worst shot-conversion rate (3.3%). Ronald Koeman’s squad suffered at the other end of the pitch, too, placing joint-second for goals conceded (seven). They now lay claim to just two clean sheets in 12 outings, having kicked off the season with three shut-outs in five.

Although Arsenal tallied eight goals and charted top for big chances (11) in their previous quartet of match-ups, they ranked in the bottom four with regards to attempts (44). Only Leicester City (21) have chalked up more away goals than the North Londoners (18), which paints a bleak picture regarding Saints’ defensive prospects. The Gunners have also proved hard to beat on their travels, conceding just three goals in their last trio of road ties.

Aguero (c) owners got off lightly today on a poor punt, they don't deserve any returns really, rewards are for the brave not the foolish.
May be controversial but that's me.

Buying an unfit Aguero in today was premature, nothing to go on really.
A 1pt cameo should have been punishment, not a (VC) in and an auto sub.

When you have a chance to cap Aguero vs Sunderland at home with only 13% ownership surely you have to go for it.

I disagree, nothing to go on Granville but a punt in fairness, I'd have rather he played and the Fpl gods spoken but sometimes the (VC) annoys me, I've been consistent here check my history and I'm Kuns biggest fan, but I wanted to see 90 mins first.

Buying a player in the middle of red hot form is not brave, its exceedingly boring.

Exceedingly boring is often rewarding. Dont insult others for being brave and trying something which brings excitement to the game. We are all different, treat everyone as such.

Let's be balanced here, I'm not insulting anyone, take the post as you feel I did say 'that's just me' I'm merely pointing out owners were ahead of the curve and got 'rewarded' for it, personally I think Aguero in today was foolish but everyone is entitled to play the game as they see fit, we run an advice centre here at the best of times and mind was not to touch, granted Vardy > Aguero today worked out ok, I'm one of the most open minded people on here, amazed at the backlash.

Not sure if I did, you'd be foolish in this game to give any player of quality a 40point hit head start.
Anyone that wins Fpl wins it on merit and will get the odd bit of luck and yea maybe a (VC) kick in, just saying is all.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I think I called it just about right maybe my language was coarse in hindsight but yea hindsight is easy as is it is easy to say now Aguero TODAY was a bad choice imho, I didn't mean to sound like (c) hindsight in all honesty,
But ya I agree 100% have your opinion, back it up, make it factual-I think in today's games Aguero was a gamble a big one for me not based on the fact that in general we all agree that Aguero is a quality player but in 'current' terms he's not a good pick, I resisted the option to bring him in today based on current information available to me, luckily today that was the right call.
It may not be so the next time, that's the beauty of Fpl, evolution where necessary patience where not.

Makes sense buddy 🙂 my interpretation of the facts was slightly different but equally valid, namely that City would steamroller Sunderland (they did) and if Aguero was part of the attack (sadly he wasn't) I'd get some unique points over my ML rivals. Sometimes it's good to be the prime mover, and Aguero as a differential was irresistible to me. Hopefully he remains one vs. Leicester on Tuesday :).
                Good luck 🙂

Agree Individual, City were always gonna win that game V Sundy and yes Aguero could have bossed it for sure but there were a few question marks about his fitness, this can't be denied. I couldn't believe my luck when team sheets were announced if I'm honest.
I get your point remove Bony and Aguero was in the points (if playing) - no disputing this, but what I am disputing was bringing him in after a very poor game V Arsenal and s quick turnaround for the next game, in his current condition which we believe to be coming back from injury - he was never gonna be risked to start both games I think and I've seen that said by many a seasoned poster on here that therd was question marks, all I'm saying is that the (VC) facility stood to some players well, granted that's what it it is there for but I still feel players were furtuitous in that especially when Kompany came in as a sub and went off as a sub thus further limiting the opportunity of Aguero coming on which you could argue could have involved him in some Fpl points.
Enjoy the Good luck if you got it.

City scored 4, should have had more, and if it wasn't for that 'small problem' Pel said he had which we didn't know about (and also probably the Kompany sub) then he most likely would have had some points today. A good punt on a class player which didn't come off

Absolutely ridiculous statement. To even go a far as to guess he would have scored had he played it's just pure guesswork. 17/18 game week aguero don't feck all and people jumping head first in when igahlo, vardy , Kane and luk on Fire is stupidity.

No hassle with people getting bench points but defending it like this when it was a huge risk it deluded. People who vc on Kane should count themselves as incredibly fortunate .

Yeah it's guesswork, but my point is the team was scoring heavily, and so a punt on a striker in a team that scored 4 goals does not equate to a terrible punt. He is out of form and fitness, but could have been a focal point in a firing attack.

The other players you list are better picks right now, I'm merely disagreeing with the idea that picking aguero this weekend was stupid. Risky yes, but stupid no.

All opinion though. That's what makes this game fun. Good luck

Yeah man I agree. It's just that given his class, I considered him capable of goals with that man city midfield behind him and the Sunderland defence in front. Turned out to be a mistake, but not because he looked terrible, because he didn't play.

Agree he's a risk now though. We'll see though. Good luck

Cheers mate, been my sentiment all along.
I ain't foolish to think Aguero isn't quality, it's just that right now he isn't.
In time and once he gets over this phase (of injury) he will be the default (c), I just think Fpl players are guilty of backing him on his reputation right now, when in fact the truth is he has been (bar Newc) a poor pick thus far.

Yeah for sure. I guess I'm just backing him for the odd goal on his way back to form, and thus also catching any early potential explosions that people holding off would miss. Agree with your points though, and thus far your logic has of course been proven effective. Cheers for the replies!

No prob, I've backed him so many times before and he stood me well so I talk based on experience. But l need to see more from Aguero right now before I commit.
Thank you for you replies Feverpitch, you post well!

Typical Arsenal defensive error. All back and flat in defence. No one to challenge the second ball. With proper defensive midfielders this wouldn't have happened. Can't blame Ramsey cos it's not his position.

      • 14 Years

Well you can blame him, you'd just have to understand that, as you said, it isn't his natural position. Ideally you need a proper enforcer in there or an Alonso, someone who covers the defense perfectly, cuts out danger and can play a ball forward with precision, and quickly. The dream is either a Souness or an Alonso type player.

Perhaps you're right, Arsenal have (on paper) two great fixtures, this is why I considered them. I had Cresswell a while back and it was frustrating as West Ham were leaky. I think getting the defence right is quite possibly the most difficult position atm.
