Less than 24 hours after Gameweek 18 came to its conclusion, we’re back in the Scout Picks saddle yet again. Arsenal’s home clash with Bournemouth holds the biggest appeal this time around as we back a trio of Gunners to bring in the points as they look to recover from yesterday’s shock loss at St Mary’s.

We’ve opted for Maarten Stekelenburg as Southampton make their way to Upton Park tomorrow. Having kept out Arsenal at St Mary’s, the Dutchman could be in line for further defensive returns, given that the injury-hit Hammers have scored once in the last four Gameweeks.

Palace’s Scott Dann looks a strong shout for points at both ends of the pitch at home to Swansea. The 5.6-priced centre-half has already scored three times this term and has registered four efforts inside the box in as many matches, whilst the Swans have netted just twice in five ahead of their Selhurst Park head-to-head.

West Brom’s Craig Dawson gets the nod for the visit of Newcastle. The Baggies right-back netted his second strike of the season against Liverpool recently and faces a Magpies attack that’s scored just five times on their travels this term.

We call upon Hector Bellerin as our final defender, with Arsenal desperate to atone for their St Mary’s mauling. The right-back’s raids have already served up a pair of assists and he should be less prone to rotation than fellow full-back Nacho Monreal, if Arsene Wenger decides to shuffle his defensive pack for the Cherries’ visit.

Having suffered a rare blank at Southampton, Mesut Ozil has the chance to quickly make amends for his 50% owners at home to Bournemouth. With 15 assists already accrued, the German will fancy his chances of picking apart a backline that’s chalked up just one clean sheet on their travels.

We’re expecting goals at the King Power on Tuesday evening and draft in Riyad Mahrez as Leicester look to recover from their weekend loss at Liverpool. Although he’s tended to perform better on his travels, the Algerian has still managed four sets of double-figure at home, whilst the City defence has one shut-out in eight and is likely to be without Vincent Kompany yet again.

Kevin de Bruyne rolls up to the Foxes in fine form. The Belgian delivered his second 16-point haul in the last five Gameweeks against Sunderland on Saturday and with Tuesday’s match set to be an end-to-end affair, his security of minutes earns him the nod as our preferred City attacker.

Stoke’s in-form Marko Arnautovic takes the final slot in our four-man midfield. The Austrian – who bagged his sixth of the season in yesterday’s win over United – sits joint-top amongst midfielders for attempts on goal in the last four Gameweeks and now travels to Goodison Park, where Everton have kept just one clean sheet so far.

Olivier Giroud makes it a full house of Arsenal players for the Emirates match with Bournemouth. The Gunners have scored at least twice in all but one of their last six home encounters, and, having notched in seven of his last ten, the Frenchman has proven almost as consistent as team-mate Ozil over the previous couple of months.

Everton’s home form brings Romelu Lukaku into contention for the visit of Stoke. The Toffees are second only to City for goals scored in front of their own fans and with the big Belgian netting in each of the previous four at Goodison, he’s sure to pose Mark Hughes’ resilient rearguard problems aplenty tomorrow.

Harry Kane makes his way to Watford on the back of a 13-point haul against Norwich on Boxing Day. Although the Hornets have been mainly resilient at home, they have, nonetheless, conceded against top six sides such as Palace, Arsenal and United at Vicarage Road, whilst the Tottenham frontman’s record of five strikes in his last four road trips bodes well for his 31% ownership.

Alberto Moreno comes in for Liverpool’s trip to Sunderland. The left-back has earned four bonus points over his side’s last two clean sheets, and, in spite of a lack of attacking returns, he’s still produced four shots and ten key passes in the last four Gameweeks – more than any other backline option.

Rested for the weekend trip to Spurs, Wes Hoolahan is poised to earn a recall as Norwich host Villa at Carrow Road. The Republic of Ireland international scored in his previous home appearance and faces a defence that has conceded in every road trip since Gameweek 1.

With Graziano Pelle still injured, Shane Long is poised to keep his starting berth for Southampton’s trip to West Ham. Having bagged a brace against Arsenal, he’ll he hoping to take advantage of a Hammers backline that has concerns over both James Tomkins and Aaron Cresswell ahead of tomorrow’s Upton Park clash.

The Community Champion

Having scrapped the weekly vote idea from last season, we now operate a lottery system to pick our weekly candidates. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

Gameweek 18’s community champion Saint Slaven lost out to the Scouts by 46 points to 58. Red Devil leads the race to claim the £100 Amazon voucher, having beaten us by 25 points in Gameweek 17.

There is now a break in the selection of community champions due to the fast turnaround of matches. We will resume the search for a community champion to take on the Scout Picks ahead of Gameweek 21.

Why I don't buy Arsenal dropping Ozil, especially with no good play makers to replace him:

Mesut Ozil's minutes in PL and CL under Wenger:

PL: Squad: 66, Starting eleven: 63, Substituted in: 2, On the bench: 1, Injured: 23

    Minutes breakdown:
0: left on bench @Man City (not really fit)
0 - 45: x2 (both substitued in the week coming back from injury)
    46 - 60: x0 - Never played less than 60 after starting!
    61 - 70: x2
    71 - 80: x8
    81 - 90: x53 - 85% of games started.

CL: Squad: 18, Starting eleven: 18, Substituted in: 0, On the bench: 0, Injured: 4

    Minutes breakdown:
    0: x0
0 - 45: x1 pulled off @Bayern Munich after his worst half of football in memory
    46 - 60: x0
    61 - 70: x1
    71 - 80: x1
    81 - 90: x15 - 83% of games started.

The best stat is Arsenal need to win

      1.

I think we've got a high correlation between needing to win every week and Ozil starting whenever he's fit to start here 🙂

    2.
      10 years, 10 months ago

      tl;dr:
84 times in the matchday squad,
61+ minutes completed on 80 occasions.
starting on the bench 3 times - each time returning from injury/ not really fit at all
Once hauled off at half time.

It's also comforting he only comes off the bench if he is returning from injury. If he is rested then my VC should come in.

Who started such nonsense? Haven't been around the boards today

Wenger doesn't believe in resting anybody and he hasn't rotated the squad during xmas for several seasons now..

      1. Salah’s Sonnet
        10 years, 10 months ago

True, but he also did a howler missing that pen, and also needs to keep aguero happy, this way he plays both a game each and aguero can't get sharp if he doesn't play, plus he's the main man at city, i do fancy him to start, jus wanted other people's opinions.

Thinking Kane -> Aguero (C) this week.

Seems crazy to ditch Kane, but think Aguero is the standout captain pick this week.

Ozil is exhausted and won't come close to wearing my armband this week.

                Kdb Yaya Silva

Overall game and the opposition. Tracking back. Kun gets in the six yard box all the time and Navas is far better at low balls in, as opposed to when Bonjani is out there

I was going to captain Ramsey but I am worried of rotation. Not for Ramsey himself because I don't see any other replacement in the squad for him with Cazorla injured. I am more worried of an Ozil rest. We don't know how that would affect Arsenal's because he always plays but I imagine it would lessen the appeal for Arsenal a lot even in plum games. An Ozil rest is bad for Ramsey, Walcott and Giroud.

Arsenal at home to Bournemouth is a plum fixture. Dont overthink it especially as Ozil is very unlikely not to play

I just have a feeling Coutinho will score big this gameweek, always does well away from home (Chelsea, City, Stoke etc)

Aguero will 100% start, Pell said this also I think. I'm really stuck on captain choice, have captained Lukaku 7 straight game weeks, won't be doing that tomorrow lol

              10 years, 10 months ago

Well, in fairness coutinho did take a fair few efforts against Leicester last gameweek, he could do great, i just tend to think he won't, but i hope he does for you for sure.

Yeah it's only logical really that kun will start ain't it, i mean, he's the main man at city, got to let him play, keeps bony happy as he played last game, and leicester looking tired and lost their last game, plus i have nothing to lose with my rank so aguero is my captain this gameweek.

Also worth remembering Bony is on course to beat Vardy's record.

Is anyone captaining Kane this week? I know Watford away is a tough fixture but he is bang in form.

I want to but Watford are a rock at home, same dilemma with Lukaku vs Stoke and their great defense

hi guys.. would love to hear some opinions that you may have on my team…

im chasing the league leader and on 26pts behind.

    DDG – McCarthy
    Kolarov – Alderweireld – Moreneo – Bellerin – Dawson
    Ozil – KDB – Barkley – Gosling – Mahrez
    Kane – Lukaku – Vardy

    1.8m in the bank… 1FT

    thinking of

    Options:
    a) DDG -> Hennessy and Vardy -> Giroud for GW19. McCarthy -> Butland in GW20
    b) Kolarov –> Dann/Souare (or someone else?) and Vardy -> Giroud
    c) Barkey -> Ramsey (i then dont take -4 point hit, remove the Everton double up as their fixtures look crap Stoke,Spurs,City,Chelsea)

the main goal is to get Giroud (cap) vs Bournemouth as my differential, tripling up on Arsenal since everyone else in the minileague has only 1 or 2 arsenal players (Ozil/Bellerin) and no Giroud.

DDG is a good keeper but the united defence is pretty dire at the moment. Kolarov ain’t returning much points either and has rotation risk.

    what do u guys think??

    1. Cevap
      10 years, 10 months ago

actually doing McCarthy to Henny myself and benching DDG for this week. Still think United have some CS's in them.

      1. hhjjjhh
        10 years, 10 months ago

i should have more faith in United..but its being tested! but yea...McCarthy to Henny makes sense as well! I was thinking the Henny+Butland is 0.1 cheaper than Mccarthy + DDG hence the proposed move

I'd keep DDG as you are over playing "dire" in your analysis.

Having a keeper with the reactions of a cat can actually be beneficial in a weakened defence.

      1. hhjjjhh
        10 years, 10 months ago

        thanks Kim Pong...

as a United fan...everything's 'dire' now LOL....

that said, United do have decent fixtures up ahead...

      Pretend you don't own Ighalo.
It's keeper A vs keeper B in the end.

      1. Rhinos
        10 years, 10 months ago

Yeah and Lloris has to edge it, better keeper better team and will get more saves to make

    5. Sebbo29

      i'd play Elliot

Thing is I'm all or nothing and have Janmaat too so would have to drop Bennett at home to Villa to play Janmaat. Think just gonna expect Brom to score

      Lloris for me...

    Henessey (DDG)
    Bellerin Kosc Dawson (Toby Bennet)
    Ozil KdB Mahrez Coutinho (Gosling)
    Kane Vardy Lukaku

    2 FTs 2M ITB.

Don't really know what to do..

Coutinho would be one but he's vs Sunderland

    Vardy to Ighalo?
or just the boring DDG -> Butland?

    1. hhjjjhh
      10 years, 10 months ago

      Koflok:

vardy to ighalo seems more of a sideways move for me...both dont have 'easy' fixtures upcoming but both are in decent form (vardy a tad less so).

i would do the DDG -> butland move and play Hennessey this GW.
