The template is so dominant this season that one of the very few areas you can try to make up ground is through the captaincy, but even the captaincy is going with the masses this season. Try to be just a little different and you get punished. It's getting so frustrating. 🙁
Just curious as it's my first season playing but has it been like this before where a template has developed, or has this happened in past seasons?
You usually get a template in one area (e.g. the power 5 midfield a couple of season back) or a few players that are in everyone's team. But not a whole first 11. Even then the template players rarely score week-in, week-out almost without fail (except Suarez).
Last week the main captains failed. Playing safe with captain this week worked.
At least you have a good rank.The poll leader worked last week as I understand it.
Didn't even notice Kane was top. Seems Mahrez got past late. Mahrez and Ramsey seem silly in hindsight 🙁
That's the thing, you say it looks silly in hindsight but when I was looking at Ozil and Ramsey's recent stats last night Ramsey had half the chances created of Ozil but 7 times higher shooting stats so it did not seem a silly decision by any stretch of the inagination.
Ramsey was clearly told by Wenger to hold more and protect the back 4. He didn't forward nearly as much and as a result Arsenal looked solid. I would think he'll play the same way against Newcastle so Ramsets output will be affected
The only stats that matter are Ozil = assists + baps. We know Ozil was popular this week & Ramsey was a massive differential. Since Ramsey returned it was 28-25 Ramsey or 2-1 GWs with a draw. On another day Ramsey gets a haul but Ozil is likely to be involved there too.
I was oscillating between the two all week. Although top of top of the poll, Ozil didn't have a huge percentage so I figured this was a week to try to be different to make up some serious ground. Silly me, trying to be different. 🙁
This is why I'm looking at Aguero. It's impossible for me to pass my ml rival as he is 30 points up but has nearly the exact same team and or defenders from the same team so we end up on identical points. Need some kind of differential as even our captain options are the same. Both captained ozil and I only beat him by 1 point in the end for this week, doing my head in.
30 points *should* be easily recoverable, but as you say it's near impossible at the minute. If the leader sots on the template, you have to go off it to make ground and doing that is punished time after time this season.
Exactly diva, it's so frustrating, not sure how to make ground atm, only reason I'm looking at other options ie Aguero but will probably be punished again if I do so.

I'm somewhere similar in terms of captaincy success, although being reasonably template has kept me in the hunt. 😕
What's your base average captain score? I was 4.7pts/gw Ozil just pushed me up to 5.2pts on average.

I've suffered this season even when having the right players in the GW just not captaining the right one, and actually captaining the only wrong one I could have chosen lately. 2 Ozils, 2 Lukakus and a Mahrez in the last 5 got me 26 points before another Ozil got 14 this week.
You're right you lose faith in your picks and just going with the poll winner is as good as any other option it seems.Mine is ~5, or 4 if you exclude the week Aguero went crazy. 🙁

this week I just went sensible with ozil but it wa very hard as it seemed a boring option. It's hard not to try and overthink and guess a differential for he week but it usually ends up failing.

For those with lukaku, Kane and ighalo, who would you look to transfer out for Aguero if Aguero starts to fully fire soon. Very tough call but agueros explosion consistency will be to hard to ignore eventually I'd say as we saw earlier in the season one massive haul can change the course of a season.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Aguero earlier in the season was anything but consistent. Sure, there was the 5-goal game, but that followed a bunch of 2-pointers, didn't it? At the time, I remember Callum Wilson was outscoring him for example over the same number of weeks, as was Vardy.
Yes but that 5 goal haul was him in peak form again and he was untouchable, it's a shame he got injured after that because who knows what would have follows after that, the confidence stayed with him even when he returned after injury as he scored on his return against Liverpool, but then got injured again. It's just his explosions that can break the template, even though the other strikers are near unstoppable as is.
You've got a point, I still need more convincing to break the template myself, though I'm definitely keeping an eye on Aguero. I'd say Lukaku is staying 100%, who to ship is between Kane and Ighalo
Yeh it's hard and Kane was unstoppable last week and ighalo is indri able because f his price plus goal to game ration, might have to wait for one to show weakness but also want to jump on Aguero train semi early, very Tough call
There were 9 games he played over 60 minutes, scoring 7 goals and 1 assist. You are right. But, if healthy, he can dominate like very few others. High risk but high reward
He was obviously horribly out of form until the Newcastle game, and looked geniinely worried like he doubted himself, then all he magic came back in that one game and he remembered who he was again, was such a beautiful site to behold.

Difficult but would probably have to be one of the two expensive ones. I'm tempted to say Lukaku as he has hurt me so many times before but he does look on fire right now. You also think Kane is going to be consistent now all season. It's a tough one, but if I really wanted Aguero, I think I'd sell Lukaku
I have the money to do ighalo as well but he is a beast for his price, it just depends on who starts to slow down first. Would love kun for Everton at home but may have to wait it out.

The only clubs in the whole league where players are performing roughly to expectations are Spurs, Palace and Norwich. There are some other individuals like Ozil, Lukaku, and Shawcross but this season has been a bizarre combination of unknowns like Mahrez or Ighalo having mindblowing seasons or extreme underperformance from the likes of Hazard, Rooney and Aguero.
And this is all making a mockery of TV
Also of premier league wages the real players are earning.
