We delve into the Gameweek 20 data this evening in our first members article of the week. Wayne Rooney’s upturn in attacking potential arrives under analysis, whilst we also cast an eye over midfielders from Spurs, West Ham, Arsenal and Newcastle, before assessing Liverpool and Leicester’s threat in the final third.

Anyone slightly resistant towards selling Moreno considering that there could be a Liverpool DGW in only 4 or so GWs time?

going on recent form though 3/4 (including tonight's game) is good esp against the opposition and with all the injuries.

That's true but I would say they don't look like they can be trusted to get CS when expected , more so with ever changing defence
Also think the last time they had three CS in close proximity they went dozen without one, and that was under the talent of Rodgers

Quite cheap also and has still that attacking threat I expect Liverpool to improve in the coming weeks. They also kept a clean sheet today.

I disagree. He can't cross to save his life. Benteke isn't exactly setting the world alight, but the crosses he has to deal with are absolutely horrendous. Smith had more good crosses in his few minutes than Moreno has had in several games.

he is a threat, gets good balls in just Tekkers isn't up to it at the moment. Once Danny Boy is back he could get attacking returns.

He's a keeper for me. 5m is about right for a Liverpool defender, and he's possibly the most attacking defender in the league after Kolorov.

You're probably right as he is such a good finisher. Would like him to spent more time in the box as that is where most of the goals are scored from.

Agreed. Briefly considered selling Kane for Kun but now I've decided it's either Vardy or Lukaku that gets the chop (selling the latter also entails a lot of hesitation).

Who are your other strikers Mahrez?

Had Kane, Ighalo and Lukaku for about 2 months now, serving me pretty well, and feel no inclination to drop any of them in a hurry. Only one I'd drop for Kun is Kane but I see Kane matching him over the next 5.

Yeah, I agree, Vardy is the standout option to sell for Kun out of your strikers

I have Vardy Lukaka and Ighalo - was thinking of getting Kane in for Vardy, though Costa is flirting with hitting some form, and If Kun could prove his fitness and find a bit of form I could easily afford him too. Think Kane just tops my choices though.

Yeah, Kane and Kun are the standout ones, I think Costa's lack of baps and tendency to get yellows can hinder his scoring potential quite badly, don't like him in FPL really.

Kun or Kane is so tough, I guess it comes down to what you'd do with the extra money

He suffers without Dembele. Alli isn't a great passer and Kane drops deep out of position in order to collect the ball, taking him out of prime goalscoring positions.

As a United fan, best to be sure that this is a purposeful change by LVG in tactics and not simply a one-off or two based on backlash on style following a string of losses and draws.

Not sure - 30 points from their first 20 games which includes when they were awful under BR, so 32 from their next 18 doesn't seem too crazy. "Price" probably inflated a little by Liverpool fans bias-betting as well

              10 years, 3 months ago

clearly not crazy, but not where the betting line should be. What evidence is there that they have actually improved under Klopp apart from Mangala having an awful game? Add in injuries are piling up and well its about a win higher than it should be. Also spurs are too low.

the proof is in the way the team plays and the fact Klopp has tactics and plans. Of course it won't work all the time as we saw against WH and Watford, but after the WH game you could see Klopp's outrage at the players not doing what he had wanted them to.

they are definitely playing with more of a purpose than under BR and individual performances have improved.

don't even get me stared on the stats for pressing, they are off the charts.

I don't think you can say the 4-1 win over City was due to Mangala having a poor game, that's really unfair and untrue.

I do agree that Klopp is far from perfect, as our Pool but I do think we have improved and I do see gameplans and reasons for doing what we do, i.e huge amounts of off the ball pressing, and zonal pressing.

A lot of our issues have come from poor dealings with crosses and lack of goals which should hopefully improve over time as Klopp begins to shape the team more and gets some players he wants.

No doubting the pressing, but its not exactly leading to anything better in attack is it? big chances & Shots in the box are still dawdling along.

I agree with Balders, isn't klopps record worse than rodgers was? He seems to have them running more, and they had a bit of a new manager bounce until december, but now look more average.

well tonight is a prime example of what Klopp can do that BR couldn't. he got his team to do what they should have done at WH, and from his reaction after WH game it was clear his gameplan was not implanted the way he wanted.

against Stoke earlier Pool stopped crosses coming in and closed down crosses very fast and pushed Stoke central, something that should have happened against WH. The two goals were basic back post crosses that could have been easily dealt with.

Pool are showing signs of progression and learning, but under BR that didn't happen, his tactics were random. Klopp's aren't, and in time form will come.

Bench him then, then if it works out consider selling. But I'd be very cautious about selling, esp if you'd be losing around a million of value if you'd have to bring him back.

If he'd have hit the penalty better in the last game, he would have scored 11 points and you wouldnt even be considering selling him.

If you think that and you find a good differential then you get free points in that position where everyone else gets Mahrez's points.

If you can find 4/5 better than Mahrez then sell him. If you sold 3 GWs ago and got Arnie or similar in his spot, you would have made lots of ground.

The thinking being this is Spurs big chance to have a go at securing top 4 or better & they'll need Eriksen performing to do that, call it a leftfield punt. 🙂

He is a genuine 4th mid but no Mahrez replacement. KDB, Ozil, Mahrez are essential IMO but apart from those three I can't see anyone else that Alli can't challenge for the 4th spot.

Back soon but will need to prove himself first. I'm one of his biggest fans and owned him for the whole season until his injury. However, until he starts getting some consistent returns he won't be in my midfield. Anyway, it is likely Sanchez would challenge KDB's spot and not Alli's potential 4th midfield spot.

I used to be like that with Sanchez but this time will wait for one/two returns before I buy him. Of course he is a great player but at the same time I would be confident my own current players could also deliver.

As far as Aguero is concerned I'm with you.

I For me he is explosive amd capable of great returns. I think by the end of the season he will be up there with the highest scoring minds. Of course you could question his consistency but I think those who remain faithful with him will get the most out of him. I don't expect him to get double figures each week, but I keep him because I know he can do it anytime.

Got 1. But perfect example of how he can still grab open play assists, and great goal threat at set pieces too.

I have almost always looked into the cheaper route into buying defenders. For example with Tottenham rather than buying Toby I would normally buy perhaps a Walker or Dier. However, now I think I'm realizing that it really is worth shipping out a but more on defenders, as they often justify their price tag. I mean the gap between Toby and the next Spurs defender, even though they may have played in the same amount of games and got the same amount of clean sheets, is fairly big. So yeh, I'd do it, I am I think anyway.

On the Ozil will/won't reach 200 points argument. he's got to be injured or really crap to _not_ break 200 points.

He's already on 131 points so only needs 69 points from 18 games or 3.8 ppg. That's not hard at all. 84 players have a ppg of 3.8 or better so far this season. I would comfortably back Ozil to be in the top 84 ppgs over the second half of the season. If he misses 3 games in a short lay-off it changes to 4.6 ppg, a ppg which 31 players scored over the first half of the season.

IMO the conversation needs to be shifted to will he score over/under 230 points this year to examine whether he's worth keeping in our teams.

yep, but I've seen the 200 point argument chucked around 3/4 times in the last day or so which is just, well, a rubbish one.

Yeah I reckon Mahrez is as close as it gets to essential, but if you're not gonna have him in your team at any time, it may as well be for Spurs away.

Given that Pool are down to 3rd strings at the back, I thought I'd try to see how I could take advantage with Arsenal attacking assets, while still sticking to the plan of Giroud->Kun this week. SO, how's this for a wild set of transfers?. Can do for -4

Giroud, Kane, Arny ->Aguero, Sanchez, Ighalo

    But, Hen
Bell, Dann, G John, Moreno, SImpson
    KDB, Ozil, Sanchezs, Mahrez, Ali
    Aguero, Lukaku, Ighalo

Bold definitely though I would advise against it. Calm down on Sanchez ATM. Arsenal won't hammer pool IMO, Klopp will have a trick up his sleeve. Giroud > Aguero affordable?

      Arnie has Norwich at home......

he did look sharp against Pool but that's a hard game to judge him on because he didn't play many minutes and Pool were in shambles defensively, especially when dealing with crosses.

Who do you bench for next game week in defence? will be playing 3

    Sagna, Toby, Wollschield, (Bellerin, Moreno)

Leaning towards the 3 to left of brackets, as they are all home games - or should bellerin come in for someone??
