We delve into the Gameweek 20 data this evening in our first members article of the week. Wayne Rooney’s upturn in attacking potential arrives under analysis, whilst we also cast an eye over midfielders from Spurs, West Ham, Arsenal and Newcastle, before assessing Liverpool and Leicester’s threat in the final third.
If we take it that Guardiola is going to Man City in the summer in light of his recent comments, How does Pelegrini feel?
If it is true it seems very disrespectful and could easily disjoint City's second half of the season, Why would Pelle care and it could filter through to the players, I'm aUnited fan and I like Pelle - I think he's a gentleman in today's game, and deserves a lot more respect than this.Pep been going to city since summer, pellegrini is a dinosaur who knows time is almost up
Nothing is final.
Bloody hell, that's harsh, he's a very good manager.
I think so too if your balanced and fair toward Pelle.
The modern game is tough and expectations are huge, at the end of the day there are only so many trophies on offer and there are lots of big fish in that small pond.Jaysus? The man is clearly a good manager? His age is irrelevant ? I'm a united fan and HVT is right I have great respect for Pellegrini. Outside of a managerial sense I agree with HVT again, the guy is a gent also.
I think he's a pro, don't think it will effect him
Also he's getting on a bit might be enjoying less pressure (as he knows he is leaving) before retiringThanks saw that, a lot of speculation in there Sinik-but where do you see him managing?
I really he think he could pick us. We're not chop liver like ABUs would claim. There are legitimate bullets in the pro column for both Manchester clubs.
Id like to think he will end up at United but I fear the worst, United have been slipping as a powerhouse for years, SAF covered up the cracks so well.
Pep will either view it as a challenge to reinvigorate the club or a disaster waiting to happen, and maybe even a poison chalice.
City on the other hand have endless funds and ready made talent in the club with 5/6 players in, it may seem the path of least resistance for pep,
Either way I'm unsure as I'm not fully sure how his mind works.Eh I think in Fergie's last few years we just were prioritizing servicing the debt. With the sponsorships Woodward has built up since then we are rolling in it while comfortably making payments. We won the league less than 3 years ago, we're literally too big to fail.
I hope your right but I still don't think United can compete with City financially, if they are not careful the gap will continue to widen.
Pelle doesn't strike me as somebody who will chuck his toys out of the pram. I'd be more worried about the effect on some of the players tbh.
Yea agree, he seems a good pro to me and I must say I like the guy for who he is and the way he handles himself, granted maybe City feel he has underachieved trophies wise but money doesn't always guarantee success as we've seen in the past Wakey.
I fully agree with this. Pelle will probably try as good a finish as he can, also to leave with honor and maybe glory as well. Not sure of all the players, although for their careers, too, it would of course be beneficial to play their best to secure a place in City (or elsewhere in big clubs) for the next season. The players who do not start regularly or are dropped may be the most vulnerable to the situation, knowing they don't have to to with the manager for long anymore.
it happens the same with jupp heynckes in bayern and he still win the champions and championship. So he need to be a pro and do his work
That was different, Heynckes had chosen to leave.
Ryan Bennett. Is he nailed?
He was subbed in at HT for one of the games I watch/where he had the assist.
Simpson looks more nailed for cheapos, but for 0.2 more
Not sure if I should keep Dawson in for the long-term and Bellerin in for the short-term. Cresswell's attacking threat has looked great lately so I'm tempted to get one out.
If you've a spare ft - yea.
Yeah I'm doing Dawson to cresswell at this stage
I've faith in Dawson. WBA should keep some tight ship, and attacking underlying is way up there
I got a bit transfer crazy after the weekend (and a few beers) and have made 3 changes already this week, not sure whether it was the terrible GW20 score, a strange New Year itch that I just had to scratch or just plain stupidity...
Butland
Toby, Bellerin, Dawson
Alli, Mahrez, KDB, Ozil
Kun (C), Kane, Lukaku
Hennessey, Stanislas, Moreno, Oxford
0 FT
2.9m ITB
Currently on -4
A) GTG?
B) Anything worth a hit? That bench needs sorting out at some point but not this week
Yeah, I think I'm gonna leave Oxford in there as fodder. Having 4 fit, playing defenders is working out for me so far but I'm tempted to get rid of Moreno next GW.
I'd like to find a way to shoehorn Sanchez in when he's back too... thinking of KDB to Yaya and Mahrez to Sanchez but that depends on whether Yaya maintains his form and Sanchez finds some
Wow your team must have some value! Impressive. Maybe Dawson to Cresswell but not sure if worth a hit
Not massive value, currently 108.1m
Are you playing Dawson because you think he will keep a clean sheet? Moreso than Moreno anyway? I'm tempted to play him otherwise I'll get 0 points on Tuesday with 0 players playing
Nevermind he plays Wednesday too
Tuesday, Wednesday, not sure what you're on about?
TBH, I don't think Dawson or Moerno will get a CS next GW but as above, Dawson carries more attacking threat recently so I'm hoping for a cheeky goal or 2 😉Nevermind I'm talking rubbish lol
Who to play ?
Rangel, Simpson, Moreno
ThanksRangel
Rangel, the other 2 have terrible fixtures and won't keep CS
How much is rangel nailed ?
played 4 of the last 5
Liverpool hamstring issues are really showing under Klopp's intense play.
think it's more that he didn't let up enough given this was his first hectic festive period.
Sounds legit on face value.
You know if this was the case when he first came to BL as well?Benteke will be our only fit player soon, he cant pull his hammy walking about doing nothing:-)
Think its a stretch to blame Klopp's style of play on the hammy injuries - most of them have been center backs and they are not exactly part of the press.
Henderson has a chronic injury sustained last season
Coutinho is just back from injuryYeah, the effect shouldn't show this fast anyway.
All being well. And everyone is fresh and injury free.
This is the transfer I'll make and the team I'll line up with.
Does this look good?
Moreno to Smith
Butland
Smith. Kolv. Ward.
Mahrez. Alli. Walcott. Ozil. KDB.
Kane. Ighalo.
Bench: Hennessy. Lukaku. Bellerin. Wollscheid
6.8 ITB and 1FT which I'll save. Money ITB is for Sanchez, Aguero and PayetI would play bellerin and lukaku over mahrez and Smith tbh
So now Liverpool will have a blank and a double GW? When will those 2 happen? Should we plan already or it is too early?
What when how ? 🙂
How can you plan if you don't know when it is?
GW 27 right?
"When will those 2 happen?"
Its not 100% that Liverpool will win the second leg
*after
This.
This, I'm praying for a Stoke comeback
Liverpool with DWG still wouldn't interest me.
Crazy
Reason enough to hold off the Moreno OUT transfer?
yes pretty much - his price is low too
Hmm... Liverpool has no CB's. Good that I didn't transfer my Arsenal attack out yet.
Lucas
Can
Ilori back
Enrique fit
Flanagan back
Theres plenty ways to work it outYeah... that doesn't look like a top central defence to me. And then they're without holding midfielders. And Klopp's teams have always conceded more than average. I'm holding my Arsenal attack for now.
Ahhh yeah, didn't take this into consideration at all. Thanks you pretty much just answered my post below.
What? I have Theo. Play him against lpool?
Yeah I mean that's what I'm swaying for all week but since I doubled up on Arsenal it has had 0 benefits
For -4 would you do either: Walcott/Eriksen -> Arnie/Shaqiri? I'm not confident in having doubled up on Arsenal mids away to Liverpool and I'm sick of Eriksen now.
Eriksen to Payet/Siggy?
I wouldn't sell Spurs players now, and you already saw my position on Arse attack.
Also long term I'll be getting Alli. I'm just frustrated with Eriksen altogether, he's returned one assist since I've had him and I benched KDB at the weekend which seemed to pay off until Eriksen scored the same
Have I got my line up right kind people
Butland
Smalling, Bellerin, Toby, Dann
Ozil (c), KDB. Alli
Lukaku, Kane, Ighalo
McCarthy. Mahrez, Barkley, VVD
It came down to a choice between Dann, Mahrez & Barkley for my last spot & with Dann a chance of a cs surely he's the best chance for highest points. Thoughts & thanks.
,Mahrez over both Smalling and Toby
How will Mahrez be affected by no Vardy. Who's going to finish his assists. I don't think Newcastle will score v MU. Will Leicester score when Spurs are the best defensive outfit in the league after conceding less goals than any other team.
Spurs have the best defensive record but they've still only kept 3 clean sheets in the league since early November
I'd bench Smalling for Mahrez
Any1 rising or falling tonight?
Coutinho
Payethttp://totalfpl.com/pricechanges Use this site to check.
Don't think Payet or Coutinho will change in price tonightThat site doesn't work buddy.
Don't use that site.
What's the best one?
FPL Statistics
Neither of those 2
If you were to WC today, what would your team look like?
butland myhill
toby kols dawson cresswell azpi
alli kdb ozil mahrez payet/arnie
kane/ighalo lukaku agueroInteresting. Why Myhill?
Butland Hennessy
Cresswell Bellerin Walker Simpson Ward
KDB Ozil Mahrez Alli Payet
Kane Lukaku AgueroButland - Hennessey
Alderweireld - Williams - Dawson - Cresswell - Nyom
KDB - Ozil - Sanchez - Payet - Alli
Aguero - Kane - IghaloI like it, why Nyom and not Smith/Daniels/Francis?
Rate Watford defense more especially at home.
Smith is a rotation risk. Moreover, I think Watford would get more CS from now till the end of the season.Interesting. Good information.
No Crystal Palace cover either?
Butland | Gomes
TBC | TBC | TBC | TBC | Smith
Yaya | Ozil | Payet/Sigurdsson | Alli | Stanislas
Aguero | Costa | Ighalo
Enough cash for Ozil/Yaya --> Sanchez.Courtois / Rudd
Azpi / Kola / Moreno / Walker / Smith
Ramsey / Oscar / YYT / Mahrez / Alli
Aguero / Kane / IghaloInteresting that you've decided to have YYT instead of KDB, why is that? Is it because YYT is more consistent?
Yes and also YYT is a BAP magnet , cheaper , allows Sanchez and YYT is a much better player imo
No Ozil?
If 'I' was WCing , no as Ozil would cost me 10m
Fair point
Courtois, Hennessey
Bellerin, Cresswell, Williams, Daniels, B. Davies
Özil, KdB, Mahrez, Alli, Stanislas
Rooney, Ighalo, Kun
To all those participating in Triggerlips' competition , this is what he said about the top pick 3-4 hours ago
"Way more unusual than Rooney, i had to triple check to make sure something was not wrong"What's the comp?
Carroll, De Bruyne, Aguero.
Maybe a defender the way Ivan has crept up so high?
I went for Butland ha
When did Payet rise? If he rises again before next GW I'll be priced out.
I was looking to replace him with Arnie (would have to be for -4 this GW).
A. Yay
B. NayUsed my Jan WC in rage last week as well.
Neigh.
Thanks.
I would give Arnie a chance vs Nor home. Especially for -4. They will want to bounce back after Liv loss.
Replacement for coutinho?
A. Arnie
B. Alli
C. Willian
D. Yaya
Front 8 looks like this
Lukaku Kane vardy
Ozil mahrez kdb coutinho lucasC. I don't think you'll regret it.
Payet?
You have Lucas? Why?? What about Payet or Ayew??
What to do? 1FT Thanks
A. Change Vardy for ighalo ? Play Toby instead of coutinho ?
B. Sell both for 4 points ?A. Toby is a good performer as I've learnt the hard way.
Considering the center DEF disaster at Pool, is keeping Rambo for the derby a viable option, or switching to Payet/Yaya after the cups games is a no-brainer? What do you think?
I think everyone thinking it'll be a breeze might be disappointed.
Derby?
Historically speaking. As a Gunners fan, I still can't forget Michael Owen's late brace at Wembley in the 2001 FA Cup final.....
Who have the best fixtures in next 5 gw's from this defenders:
1. Rangel
2. Walschield
3. Cathcart
4. Your suggestion up to 4.6
thanks in advance !1
thanks mate
What would you do with this lot?
--------------Butland--------------
--Wolly------Toby------Dann--
Mahrez----KDB----Alli----Ozil
Kane-------Deeney-------Lukaku
Bench (Cech-Simpson-Dawson-Stanislas)
0 FT 8.0 ITB
>Getting Kun for Deeney (For a hit) would leave me with 0.1 ITB and not being able to get Sanchez straight away.
>I would also need to fit in Payet after the next gameweek or so.
>Thank you in advance for your advice!Decided to WC, thoughts on the below team? Could probably save some money in defence, but cannot see where the rest of the team could be improved in doing so. Removed Alli as a 5th midfielder as I dont want a benching headache. 0.1ITB.
Butland - Hennessey
Dann - Koscielny - Azpilicueta - Alderweireld - Dawson
YYT - Ozil - Payet - Mahrez - Stanislas
Aguero - Costa - IghaloI think your reasoning behind ditching Alli is extremely flawed, and this is from someone who has benched 99 points in 5 weeks.
So my McCarthy to Hennesey transfer could cost 0.4 more. WOW, I think that never happened in the past. Price drops are so volatile !!!
Is he nailed on?
Yes. Ruddy has been dropped from the first XI
What is best goalkeppers combo from now on till the end of the season?
Gomes/Butland
Isn't Gomes/Butland too expensive? For someone like me who is just buying them?
If I was buying , I would go for Courtois(5.2m) and Rudd(3.9m) ...Courtois will get the odd bonus point it seems as Balders points out
http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/12336565
Butland
Helliot combo maybe?
If we say Butland who is his partner? heneesey? Elliot? Rudd? Gomes? Isn't Gomes too expensive ?Nobody for me. He is that good. Plenty of games where I would have benched him and lost loads of his points.
I've gone Butland and Fabianski. Will play Butland as no 1 and Fabianski covers his toughest fixtures best imo.
Rudd is also a decent cover for Butland and I think Hennessey rotates perfectly for home/away with him
You don't need it until the end of the season with a wildcard still in play
Schmeichel/Hennesey looks okay for the next 7 or soI am thinking for my WC. I need whole season mate. My ranking is awful I am researching for my WC sadly 🙁
Please tonight if you are on the Scoutcast discuss when is the best time to WC?You'll have to put it in the scoutcast questions 🙂
To be honest I think you'll get a fairly standard answer - keep for double game weeks unless you're seriously in trouble.
I have considered using it now and jumping on all the possible differentials early but it's super risky. It's super risky yes but something has to be done. There is nice fixture swing, Kun is back, Chelsea are up in from, regular players that were producing seems on the down. Window of opportunity there
@andy sorry to keep bugging you, I assume that I'm good for the cup now even though my name hasn't changed in the lists?
I assume so as Jonty saw your post yesterday but I'll check with him
Thanks, appreciated
Andy, I've changed my public name now to The Wise Owl from my username JBlake91. Is this going to be an issue?
This ones a good budget option. Hennessey/Boruc a good base price one too - at least until DGW time.
Yeah I looked at Boruc too - Bournemouth have some really nice fixtures coming up.
3 of CPLs next 4 'red' fixtures (up to GW34) are well covered by BOU. Only exception is the LEI fixture, which possibly may not still be red by the time it comes around.
Hmmm.. Interesting. Do you rotate well? I like it somehow. Just hope SoT aren't on a free-fall 🙁
Seems a quite a few are rolling with the Butland -Hennessy combo. I'd also look at Courtois and Lloris, as Stoke fixtures are tough after NOR. They are both reasonably priced now, could be bargains.
Yeah I expect Stk to start conceding but nevertheless Buttland will rise and rise and rise. I don't wanna buy 6.0m keeper 🙁
Well, question at this point is , will he really pick up more points than Lloris or Courois who're similarly priced? Especially Spurs' fixtures, but also Chelsea, hold promise of quite a few clean sheets. Butland is the GK bonus king, though.
Anyone considering Flapianski? Swans looks like back in the business and some nice fixtures upcoming
Looking at him also , just can't bring myself to trust Swns for the long run. So would be a medium term option. Their three clean sheets came against low scoring opponents
Well even if it is against low scoring it is still cs's. Other teams would have still concede 🙁
I Really did a bad decision when I brought Darmian in. Didn't want to spend all the money for Smalling. Looks like Darmian is far from nailed on.
I thought he was, strange.
So did I, now I don't think so anymore. I have to stick for a gw or 2.
Rotated with Ashley Young.
I am wild carding next GW. So be it !!! Something has to be done. I am close to top 1M. Awful, never happened to me, even in my rookie season 🙁
Anyone else plunging the button? No, I'm sitting comfortably around the top 150k at the moment but I do want to WC.
So are you doing it or not?
I think I'll stick this GW and re-assess. Already transferred Ramsey to Alli so we'll see how that pans out.
If all the differentials we're plugging this week don't fire then it will make it tougher to wildcard next week.
Keep calm.
Things can only improve.
Get Aguero and Sanchez in early and hope for the best.Been saying that for 19 weeks... 🙂
Well said Andy, 19 weeks past, it's more than half season... Things are getting better sadly 🙁
It'll get better.
Just don't get in Sturridge anymore... 😛
My team and ranking is in shamble, easy for you to say. I must trust my wildcard decision making no?
Go ahead with it if you're losing interest in the game.
Something for you to think and plan.
Otherwise ride it out.I was this close this week, but probably leaving it for next one because I had 2 FT
No
Would you rather go with a Chelsea defender or Spurs defender for the foreseeable future?
Well short term Spurs have some really nice fixtures but longer term probably Chelsea
Walker it is 🙂
Spurs. Chelsea have better short term fixtures tho.
Spurs for time being.
Super Chels
Azpi/Ivan for me. Everyonone owns Toby, what's the point anyway
Both - but bring in when no other pressing matters
Butland / Hennessey
Dawson / Bellerín / Kolarov / Alderweireld / Souaré
Özil / Mahrez / De Bruyne / Barry / Willian
Agüero / Lukaku / Ighalo
1 FT, £1.2m in the bank.
Barry > Alli and bench Mahrez this week
Yay or Nay?Anyone considering foster now he's back?
What are the thoughts on Yaya? What have his stats been like recently?
He's been more consistent than KDB I feel.
Very good. Decent stats backed by his superb conversion rate. Top pick imo .
Yaya Toure is the best finisher in England acc to me
Should I be nervous about Myhill with Foster's imminent return?
Yes
Yes but it depends how the cup games go.
Yup!
Yes - I am at least. Think I'll ship him this GW,
Me too. What replacements are in your thoughts? I already have Butland, and annoyingly it's Stoke and West Brom who rotate quite well defensively! But I don't really want to gamble on who out of Foster/Myhill would get the nod
Not in the fortunate position to have Butland, so I guess it's between him, Courtois, Lloris and Fabianski to replace Myhill. If you have Butland, just get Hennessy or Rudd as cheapo back-up.
I have cash to burn - I could bring in Lloris, and still be able to afford Kun and Kane/Sanchez in my team later. But I'm wondering if that money is going to my head and turning me mad, because my usual instinct is to keep my keepers cheap and not double up in defense (have Toby). I may need an intervention - would Lloris/Butland, with Toby in defense and tripling Spurs (if/when I bring in Kane) be utter madness?
Not in my opinion - doesn't really count as tripling up as you'll have two playing GK's. But Lloris/Butland don't rotate too well, and a tad expensice. Would choose one + Hennessy/Rudd
