New Year, new aspirations, same old voices.

The first ScoutCast of 2016 is brimming with determined talk of banishing old habits which, in all honesty, will likely evaporate in the weeks to come. That’s particularly true of my no-Aguero policy, which feels even more flimsy after taking in the musings of Jonty and Andy in this episode.

Man City’s hitman and faltering away form comes under the microscope via another batch of community questions, along with an assessment of Dele Alli, Kane without Dembele and the allure of the French fancy that is Dimitri Payet.

We rinse through that little lot, before looking ahead to the floodlit excitement that awaits us in Gameweek 21.

This episode was first aired live on our YouTube channel on Wednesday evening.

You can view the ScoutCast in full via the larger player below (with a minor edit due to a technical hitch mid-cast).

Those who prefer the distilled audio version can treat their ears via this link or the smaller player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not so much as usual - no FPL. On the brighter side, wall-to-wall FA Cup matches on the box.

    Morning guys, advice always appreciated;

    Butland - Elliot

    Bellerin - Evans - Jones - Francis - Bennett

    Silva - Willian - Mane - Payet - Westwood

    Kane - Ighalo - Aguero

    1FT - 2.8M in bank

I took a punt on Phil Jones as I thought Utd had a good run of games at home to Norwich, and Swansea - this obviously backfired.

Also not 100% happy with Silvas return, and thinking of upgrading him to Sanchez, but probably after this GW.

Anything else I should be doing?

    Many thanks

I think you're right in that Palace vs Villa may be a bit closer than most people are expecting..

I have DDG + Hennessey, starting the former..
..but I'm also playing Ward over Bellerin and Moreno.

Hmm me too a bit but its either Hennessy, Elliott or Rudd as my second keeper. Not sure which is best for price.

Would you play Gomes over them this week? Wat seem to keep conceding late!

Can't afford Gomes and Butland with this defence. Hence why i got Wolly:

          Gomes Hennessey
          Azpi, toby, wolly, williams, Daniels.

Ahh I'd been off since December 22nd (strategic use of annual leave). Another great performance on the Scoutcast this week - Granville will have to be careful he doesn't do a Debuchy and return to find his place has been nicked!

If we're getting Sigurdsson in right now it's all about fixtures and stats and very, very, short term form i.e he scored a goal last week.

His stats do look good and could be a nice differential but there's others for similar or less money to consider too - Alli + Payet for example

I would wait on Payet but yeah, Alli is in such a great form and very hard to ignore. Swansea has been transformed into a new team following the departure of Monk. Siggy will play a key part when Swansea will start climbing up the ladder and he will be hunting the baps 😉

Which is better out of this lot, for my 3rd playing defender this week.

    A. Ward
    B. Simpson
    C. Dawson
    D. Williams (-4)

Want to say A but not sure on palace right now, even against villa. Swansea cs is pretty much a 9 pointer for Williams and would want to get him anyway so better for now. I know hits are bad though. Not sure why I have Dawson, good attacking potential I guess.

Bou having press now and found it.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has been talking about new loan signing Juan Iturbe.

The 22-year-old Argentine has signed from Serie A side Roma until the end of the season, but will not be making his debut on Saturday, due to work permit issues.

Howe said: "It's exciting to have a player like Iturbe. We are doing all we can to help him settle & we have an interpreter.

"There is no update on Iturbe's work permit, it is ongoing. We hope to have an outcome by next week, maybe Tuesday.

looking for differentials, what we think of Joe Hart?

Nailed, good fixtures, good possibility of a dgw and most importanly, Kompany back soon

The Kompany factor is most important really. I looked at Hart a couple of weeks ago when I needed a new keeper but no Kompany sold it to me.

Once he's back he's one to consider but likely I would assume to not rack up the saves so quite costly but nailed of course

Kolorov would be the only City Defence I'd consider and only when Kompany is back.

Been thinking about the Scoutcast and Mark's question towards the end about whether I was considering using my wildcard got me thinking.

I do think it's probably too early for me even though I'm chasing a big gap, and think that a couple of decent captain choices could sort me out but when do I and others with a low rank have to start playing with a few more risks?

It's GW21 now, there's "only" 18 left and I'm ranked outside top 900k. Do I hope that the DGWs really do it for me or do I start taking risks now?

There's a few differentials to be considered right now - even Aguero if one for the time being but he won't last long. Costa, Oscar, Sigurdsson could be the ones to look at.

ive done it and loved every minute. Ok mainly done it out of sheer frustration BUT given cant use it same week as triple cap or benh boost i dont see how it can be used that well to nail a dgw.

Aguero Siggy Ivan Alli Costa all in my team now thanks to wc

It would be best to use the WC before the dgw. Getting the right captain has been quite tricky this season. If you give the armband to the right player, things will sort out automatically. Best of luck!

Either. It depends what you're after. If your goal is a better rank then I'd play safe for a bit longer. I've tried a few risks and it failed big time. Maybe see how the dgw's fall and look for a different type of plan around that. I think it's too risky banking on unknowns like Chelsea now rather than using a WC for the doubles.

I'm not totally against using it in the next few weeks, I don't agree that the best time to use it is with the DGWs. I think that it should be used whenever you see a gap that you can go for and try to get ahead of the curve.

If you think that it would allow you to get 3/4 players in that most other people wouldn't normally be able to get in (Oscar, Siggy, Payet, Aguero, Costa, Alli, Ighalo, etc) then go for it sure.

Yeah think he's a great option but I have for a few weeks now! I should really offload Smalling at some point but there's always those other transfers to make!

If I was wildcarding I'd have a front line of Kane - Aguero - Costa right now. Seems risky with Lukaku though

if you wait a couple of weeks will have more evidence of wheter Chelsea have sorted it, Leicester have regressed or not, plus Payet will be back to match fitness and Sanchez back in the mix. Of course doing it now COULD get you ahead of the pack on all those possibilities but thats the gamble

You've got 2 free transfers and a team that isn't 100% 'template' already. I don't think you need to wildcard to differentiate, you just need to make the right transfers (so easy to say!) I reckon the wildcard will be more useful further down the line but that's just my gut feeling

Thoughts on Bournemouth's defense? Considering Boruc and Rudd/Hennessey rotation (to save some cash) which will give:
      ----------
With Rudd- WHM, NOR, sun, crp, avl, STK, wat, SOT, new, SWA
      -----------
With Hennessey- WHM, NOR, sun, BOU, swa, STK, wba, SOT, new, SWA
      -----------
Or should I spend more and get better GKs?

Erikssen has been ticking along nicely tbf if you look at the number of assists he has with a few sub appearances too I think.

Nearly always preferable to keep some cash ITB. How about squeezing Williams in there?

Arghhhhh I was trying to ignore this. My predicterment exactly. I have the exact funds to do a straight swap with Aguero but he will rise and also needs to get through the weekend and then you have Giroud for crosses up against Can and Lucas and Owen, I'm stuck. Is it worth the gamble early to Aguero?

Immensely. Are you waiting on whatever you do? Worst possible scenario for me, I get Aguero in for Giroud, Agueros ickle glass legs fail him, Lukaku is also then ruled out and Giroud has a stormer, I would need years of therapy to get over that, glass half empty n all that.

          Butland - Elliot
          Toby - Bellerin - Souare - Cook - Moreno
          Alli - Ozil - KDB - Mahrez - Arnie
          Vardy* - Lukaku - Kun(c)

          2ft - 1.0 ITB

a> Vardy - Iggy and save the other ft?
          b> The above + Moreno -> Cresswell?
          c> Other

2 round results will tell better, but Liverpool vs Everton would be the worst final in terms of DGW
