Having analysed the defenders and midfielders over the last few days, we complete our look at the updated Watchlist rankings with a run through the latest movements up front. Man City’s Sergio Aguero is back on top of our ladder after scoring the winning goal in the 2-1 win at Watford last time out, whilst Romelu Lukaku and Jamie Vardy slip a little with concerns over their availability for Gameweek 21.

Sergio Aguero returns to the summit for the first time in a number of months after showing some flashes of his best form against Watford and Everton in the Capital One Cup in midweek. With City facing four home matches in the next six (EVE, CPL, whm, sun, LEI, TOT), the 13.1-priced forward certainly looks to have the platform to plunder the goals. His underlying statistics have also been impressive over the last two Gameweeks, totalling 19 penalty area touches, joint-third among front men, while also managing seven shots from inside the box. His 14% ownership will hope he is left out for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Norwich, then, with two Premier League matches next week. Given Raheem Sterling and Kelechi Iheanacho were both unused substitutes on Wednesday night, those wishes could well be met.

Harry Kane remains in second position in our latest update, with Spurs’ favourable upcoming schedule (LEI, SUN, cpl, nor, WAT) firmly in mind. The England international, available at 9.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), has only registered five penalty box touches over the last two Gameweeks, but, having averaged 7.4 points per appearance in his previous last five matches at White Hart Lane, Kane has to be backed to produce on home turf over the coming period.

With two tricky away fixtures next week (mci, che), and having picked up an ankle injury on Wednesday night, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku (9.3) slips down the third spot on our ladder. Although Toffees boss Roberto Martinez confirmed earlier today that the Belgian is recovering quickly, his stock has to take something of a hit. Favourable fixtures (SWA, NEW, sto, WBA) do follow, however, whilst there’s no doubt the former Chelsea striker has offered outstanding value over the past few months, racking up 10 goals and three assists in his last 10 appearances.

Another one of the form forwards, Watford’s Odion Ighalo, keeps his place on the Watchlist this week, having found the back of the net in difficult fixtures against Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham over the festive period, while the Hornets upcoming fixtures (sot, swa, NEW, CHE) are fairly reasonable. Still setting us back only 6.4 in FPL, the Nigerian looks set to continue to offer fantastic value for Fantasy bosses as a cheap third forward.

On the back of three consecutive blanks, and with a question mark over his fitness for the match at Tottenham on Wednesday, Leicester’s Jamie Vardy continues to fall down our rankings. The former non-league striker underwent minor groin surgery at the start of the week, but is thought to have a chance of featuring in Gameweek 21. The now 7.5-rated forward is the most transferred out player so far this week with over 163,000 sales ahead of a difficult run of fixtures (tot, avl, STO, LIV, mci, ars) for Claudio Ranieri’s men, with many Fantasy managers perhaps favouring Riyad Mahrez as their route into the Foxes attack.

Having registered attacking returns in six of his last eight outings, Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud keeps his spot around halfway up our ladder. The Frenchman hasn’t delivered a single double-digit score over that period, however, and with a testing schedule over the next three Gameweeks (liv, sto, CHE), his prospects in the short-term at least don’t look particularly bright. Rotation could also be a concern for the 9.2-priced forward should Arsene Wenger look to utilise Theo Walcott up front once Alexis Sanchez returns from injury.

Should any FPL bosses be on the lookout for a differential for their three-man forward lines, Chelsea’s Diego Costa could be the man for the job. The Spain international rises a few places in our latest refresh after registering a goal and assist in the Blues’ clinical 3-0 victory at Crystal Palace. The champions face four home fixtures over the next six Gameweeks (WBA, EVE, ars, wat, MUN, NEW), and with a price tag of 10.7 in FPL, and an ownership of just 6%, the former Atletico Madrid striker could well be worth a roll of the dice for those looking to make up lost ground in mini-leagues.

Another forward on the move up the Watchlist is Man United’s Anthony Martial, who registered 12 points in the 2-1 win against Swansea thanks to a goal, assist and full bonus. Louis van Gaal’s side do only face two home clashes over the coming period (new, liv, SOT, STO, che, sun), but, available for just 7.6 in FPL, the France international is another who could be seen as a viable differential option, with his ownership standing at 7%. It does remain to be seen whether the new-found attacking intent seen over the last two matches can be maintained for a sustained period, though.

With four home matches in the next six (CPL, LEI, wba, whm, NOR, LIV), Aston Villa’s Jordan Ayew clings onto his place towards the foot of our ladder. The 5.5-rated forward is available again after missing the 3-1 defeat to Sunderland due to suspension, and while the Ghanaian is unlikely to capture the imagination of Fantasy bosses due to the current predicament at Villa Park, he could continue to surprise as a budget option.

Stoke’s Bojan hold station in the final spot on the Watchlist, having managed a reasonable two goals and as many assists over the last four Gameweeks. The former Barcelona attacker offers brilliant value at just 5.2 in FPL, but his prospects are dented somewhat by a pretty testing upcoming schedule (NOR, ARS, lei, mun, EVE, bou), while the fact he’s been substituted around the hour-mark in his last two appearances is also a cause for concern.

    Myhill Mahrez Moreno Dawson

Stuck as to who to bench.. I’ve never benched Mahrez before but the last two times I have benched Alli he has got over 10 points in both games.

What to do with my free transfer?

Is it worth Giroud > Kun?

Repost as suck at bottom of page 3...

What are the chances of both Vardy dropping and Aguero rising tonight?

My planned transfer (Vardy to Aguero) can survive one but not both.

Looking at FISO and FPL Stats it could be tight.

If vardy drops but aguero holds can you still afford it? If so then I would strongly suggest waiting. I really don't think aguero will rise tonight and it's a big risk to bring him in before he plays.

Thoughts on this please guys? 1FT and 5.3ITB

A.) Moreno --> Dier (decided would rather him over Toby for the £)
B.) Lukaku --> Aguero if Lukaku confirmed out and play Dawson at the back.

    ________DDG
BELLERIN SAGNA Dawson ( Moreno Simpson)
    Kdb Mahrez Ozil Alli (Stanislas)
    Giroud Kane Lukaku

Getting rid of Moreno a mistake with DGW in mind? Even though he will probably score less than Sagna this week? Sagna being the other I could transfer out

Hold fire for news on Lukaku. I wouldn't lose Moreno just yet if Liverpool get a DGW - he's still good value and they may be more solid in a couple of weeks.

Apparently Spurs have the 4th toughest fixtures over the next 6 games according to the season ticker with LEI, SUN, cpl, nor, WAT, mci as their games. It must seriously overrate Leicester and Watford to give them such a poor rating.

I'm resigned to missing out and have already downgraded my plans from Williams and Aguero to Daniels and Aguero. No way am I getting Aguero and his glass legs in before he's played the Fa Cup game.

Pellegrini has already said he has no problem starting him three times in a week and Bony is out. He'll play. Any other player I'd say its a risk - but remember the last international break...when he did just that for Argentina.

Could do I suppose...but I've got my eye on a cheeky bench boost next gw along the lines of:

              Hennessey (mci) Elliott (WHM)

Aggers (CPL) Kane (SUN) Vardy (avl)

What are your favourite memories of the FA Cup? Was it your first final or a special goal? For me, apart from Everton winning it, it was probably the first final I watched and what got me hooked on footy. 1981 Spurs v QPR and that Ricky Villa goal. 3 hours of build up, loved it 😀

I saw an interview with Whiteside about that goal

he actually says the reason he decided to shoot is because he was knackered after sprinting for the previous attack which broke down and was on the touchline taking a breather and hoping no one would pass to him

            Then Sparky played that ball

Did Reidy really need to do a swan dive though?

The oldest game I recall was the '94 final with Hughes and Cantona getting on the score sheet.

Goals that stick out for me:

      Cantona v Liverpool '96
Gerrard v West Ham in the 90th
That super quick goal from Di Matteo

Cantona goal in the Liverpool white suit final, I was about 10 and despite being West Ham through and through Cantona was a childhood hero, West Ham making it to the final and being undone by Gerrard heroics still hurts now. DiCanio goal at OT when Barthez tried to bluff offside for West Ham

Fond memories of United Palace in 1990 my first cup final.. the team in all white that day i decided to follow from then on..

Cantonas winner against Liverpool in 96 is hard to beat for sheer ecstasy

Paul Rideouts winner for Everton against us in 95 was a boot in the balls after blowing the league title on the last day a week before.. as was losing to Chelsea with pretty much the last kick of the game in 2007

The last few minutes of the Arsenal v Man Utd final in 1979. As a 9 year old Liverpool fan (before I grew up to follow my home town team -PNE) I had been routing for United to get beaten only for them to pull back a 2 goal deficit, only for the Gunners to snatch it right at the death.

All the talk of template teams on here has got me looking into what the template team actually is and how to work round being too copy cat but at the same time scoring points from the highest scoring template players in time for your WC.

      Current template team...

      Cech, Butland

      Kolarov, Toby, Smalling, Clyne, Dann

Mahrez, Ozil, De Bruyne, Barkley, Arnautovic

      Vardy, Ighalo, Lukaku

A lot of obvious picks this season. I would also add Kane to the obvious striking options due to his massive ownership. Most of these are template for a reason (because they're either the highest scoring players or great value), but it could be worth looking for alternatives to the most popular players who could score higher. Outside of the template team there are not many midfielders or strikers at all with the same points potential, so the news of Payet being back in action was massive for FPL. As we know the so-called 'big-hitters' have failed to hit big this season aside from KDB.

Cech has emerged as the must-have goalkeeper for teams with spare cash in the bank as a result of the template players being so cheap. Arsenal's defence looks most likely to keep clean sheets this season, particularly at home. The other obvious choice is Butland, the highest scoring keeper.

Therefore the best differentials are in defence. It could be worth seeking out alternatives to the template players from within their defence or doubling up on one of the template defences. Eg. Sagna is better value than Kolarov at 0.9 cheaper and is just as nailed. Moreno is owned by 18.9% less teams than Clyne. Rose plays as a attacking wing back who gets forward more than Alderweireld, and has the same amount of assists as him despite playing 10 games less.

Alternatively, if you are lagging behind the template teams it could pay to gamble on Chelsea's defence now that Hiddink has grabbed the wheel of Mourinho's sinking ship. Many people will be put off by Chelsea's lack of cleanies this season, so there is ground to be made up if Chelsea's defence continue to do as well as at Sellhurst Park in GW20. There are no stand-out defences this season, but West Ham's defensive style means they don't leak many goals and Cresswell looks most nailed,. His 8 BPs so far is second only to Payet from Hammers. Ashley Williams could also be a good WC choice. No defender has won more BPs than him so far. When Swansea keep cleanies he scores very highly, so he is a good 5th defender for games against bottom half sides.

Key is to be creative with your defence.

Depends on if I sell Dawson or Janmaat.

          Dawson makes Cresswell easier.

Janmaat makes it trickier as i hope to upgrade my MF: Mane->YAYA/Siggy/Willian/Oscar though I could do Janmaat and add any except YAYA (Aguero owner).
