Undaunted by a disastrous set of midweek Fantasy returns, our writers and hot topic posters picked themselves up and were once again full of advice on key picks for the Gameweek ahead. Our community scribes believe getting the right differentials in place could prove the perfect tonic, while for our hot topic posters, defensive rotation and a certain Argentine striker are among the medicinal prescriptions on offer. Our Members tables round up focuses on those that could be due a goal or two this weekend, while our community tournaments summary shows that, for our league leaders at least, there was some midweek joy.

The Community Articles

The search for differentials dominates the thinking of our community writers this week, with Rupert the Horse offering up a trio of low-owned players for Gameweek 22 in his latest Only Punts and Horses article.

Elsewhere, The Fantasy Football Frog has been continuing his analysis of our own Spot the Differential articles to see what we can learn, in terms of quick points hits and long term gain, from taking a punt.

Kavali also dropped by to reveal just how badly the Fantasy Football veterans fared in Gameweek 21.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

Sergio Aguero’s growing band of owners will be hoping he can make up for a poor Gameweek 21 and deliver a Fantasy points haul this weekend. On this week’s Scoutcast, however, Mark pondered whether owning the Argentine could be a poisoned chalice, with his price tag making his owners reluctant to place the armband on other, perhaps better, candidates. Aguero owners and non-owners alike put forward their thoughts in our follow-up hot topic on the issue.

As our rough with the smooth round up of Gameweek 21 showed there were plenty of Aguero owners already getting worried about investing so heavily in his potential.

Among those who had a rough week was Andy85wsm, who braved the Scoutcast this week to reveal how investment in Aguero at the expense of Olivier Giroud had cost him dearly. Undaunted he was back during the week with some excellent analysis on how rotating Crystal Palace and Leicester defensive assets could help revive the fortunes of the many Fantasy managers like himself, who were stung by a low score in Gameweek 21.

The prospect of double Gameweeks caused by cup congestion, offers further hope to those managers in the doldrums. Nonetheless, Jarvish warns that those expecting a double set of fixtures soon may be left disappointed.

Finally, for those new members that have taken advantage of this month’s half-season discount, our hot topic offered up plenty of handy advice from existing members on getting the best out of its many tools, including the Members tables.

The Members Tables

Wayne Rooney, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Olivier Giroud and Gylfi Sigurdsson all proved the value of my goals imminent table, with the quartet scoring an impressive six times between them during the midweek matches. Here is the latest table going into Gameweek 22.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

James Ollerenshaw has opened up a nine-point lead in Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league and is still in the top 500 overall.

Meanwhile in Red Lightning’s January to May league, Dan Berkeland and Dan Robertson, who has made no transfers apart from his Gameweek 3 wildcard, are the new joint leaders.

The qualifying stage of the FIFFSA 5-a-side tournament reaches its conclusion this week, with Balders supplying this update on those who are through, knocked out or left biting their nails.

In our FFScout league, Ciaran Treacy is top and has also been in the overall top 20 for the last eight Gameweeks.

One veteran with reason to be cheerful is Andy, who continues to top the FFScout Moderators and Contributors league. Evs once again leads the chasing pack.

The overall leader of our ESPN FFSCOUT League is JJBish01, while kranokfpl tops the league’s Segment 2 leaders.

Athletico Timbo, Bowstring the Carp, Hypnos and Jurgen Flopp all tied in first place in Jarvish’s FA Cup Yes or No predictions competition last weekend.

Elsewhere, In TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing the safety score was 23, which saw 94 players depart and 741 remain. Meanwhile. Holmes and Kings of Lyon’s 90-37 annihilation of AK and Acquafresca was among the pick of the results in the first set of Balders’ Wimbledon style doubles tournament.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round Ups please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spread sheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

I've noticed you lot seem to be having a dilemma on who to bench. What I tend to do when in this situation is check my mini-league. Say you want to bench Mahrez, and the person above you has him, would you be satisfied to play it simple and have the same points as him, or would you rather bench him and play the other player you're punting on with the possibility of overtaking?
I hope you can make sense of this, and I also hope this helps.

It makes perfect sense. I don't like the OR game at all and much prefer the tactics of ML's like above.

We'd all think very differently about the game if it was only ML's.

Quite amazing the scoring system for keepers.

Rob Elliot hasn't played a full season, and remains off the radar, but the scoring is so strange that he's only 0.2 ppg behind Lloris, O.3 behind DDG and only 0.6 ppg behind the very lofty Gomes and Cech. Amazing really because Newcastle are shocking at the back.

            Dunno.

I do know that we may as well just pick any two keepers and keep our fingers crossed...that's about as much as we need to know for keepers.

Haven't played any chips yet apart from the first wildcard, and I'm seriously considering playing AOA. I can't see Monreal, Dawson or Cathcart keeping clean sheets and I feel that it's too much of a risk to bench any of my midfielders and forwards with form and fixtures taken into consideration.

      Hennessey
      Morgan - Alderweireld
      Arnie - Payet (C) - Mahrez - Ozil - Alli
      Giroud - Lukaku - Kane

      Bench: Butland, Dawson, Monreal, Cathcart

      A - Play AOA
B - Start Dawson over Arnautovic

      Which one?

Someone else said this so I'll C/P my reply:

I don't think he has a good chance of a CS. Stoke have the longest current scoring run in the PL and they have done well at home against the big sides. Arsenal are without Coquelin and Stoke are definitely not going to park the bus; instead they will probably go for the jugular and it could be a pretty open game akin to the encounter we saw in midweek between Arsenal and Liverpool.

On the other hand, Arnautovic will want to step up in this game since Shaqiri will be absent, and he is in a decent run of form. Also, the AOA chip in my opinion isn't a chip that is worth that many points. It's literally playing one player over the other, and there's always a chance of that not rewarding you.

But as an Arsenal fan who watches every game, I really do not think we will keep a clean sheet against Stoke, and I feel that Arnautovic will be involved in their goal(s).

Might do. Five goals for Defoe in his last two games and he must fancy his chances against anybody.

A request for guidance from the FFS boffins please. My team:

        Myhill McCarthy
        Kolarov Nyom Francis Cresswell Wolly
        Payet Eriksen Ozil Mahrez Wanyama
        Aguero Kane Lukaku

        1FT 1.3m in the bank

        Would you:
        A) Get a new keeper (Myhills nailedonness is gone very soon and McCarthy is a dud)
        B) Get rid of Kolarov (Been stinking out the team for ages and also a rotation problem, downgrade would free up money for Sanchez or KDB)
        C) Eriksen > Ramsey or Siggy
        D) Save FT for now

        Hello everyone!

I'm planning to play my wildcard today. I just keep changing my team all the time before I confirm, so I could use some advice. Current team is:

        Lloris and Hennessey
Sagna, Smith, Simpson, Williams and Jagielka
Payet, Alli, Sanchez, Mahrez and Barkley
        Kane, Lukaku and Aguero.

        Any thoughts? Thanks in advance..

            De Gea and Butland
Morgan, Koscielny, Francis, Evans and Dann
De Bruyne, Arnautovic, Ozil, Mahrez and Lingard
            Kane, Lukaku and Vardy,

        Who would you bench?

        Kdb Ozil mahrez payet alli

        Kane lukaku ighalo

        * thinking kdb may be benched or Ozil could struggle away at Stoke

Evening. Since gw16, I've been running a side project to see just how easy FPL is playing right now:

        http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2015/12/15/in-search-of-the-dream-fpl-team/

The premise is simple; I will change the squad whenever someone breaks into the starting lineup (the season Dream Team). First priority will be getting in the player in question, then I will get the highest season scorers within the remaining available budget, taking hits only when necessary.

In case you needed even more confirmation of how things might be changing, this team is in an absolute freefall:

        (Creation of Team)
        GW16 - 78 points, GW rank around 73,000
        (no FT needed)
        GW17 - 89 points, GW rank around 150,000
        (1 FT Sagna to Nyom)
        GW18 - 43 points, GW rank ~1.8M
(2 FTs Kolarov Wijnaldum Ayew to Wollscheid KDB Arnautovic, -4)
GW19 - 63(-4) points, GW rank ~1.3M, does not include hits
        (No FT needed)
        GW20 - 26 points, GW rank stratospheric
(2 FT Wollscheid KDB to Sagna Yaya)
        GW21 - 37 points, GW rank 1.344M
        (1 FT Yaya to Wijnaldum)

Took a chance and got Kun and Siggy in for KDB and Iggy for a -4. The wisdom of this decision is dubious but with a ranking in the 300K+, who cares at this point. The only question now is whom to bench this week of these:

        Mahrez
        Ozil
        Payet
        Lukaku

Also, Johnson or RBennett? If I bench Ozil, I may as well bank on Stoke blanking Arse and go with GJ...

          I like your Siggy punt.

Tough bench decision... It's between Lukaku or Payet for me.

I have too many potential returns from home games in midfield, so yeah, I'm currently dropping Ozil.

Dann or Bellerin? Cech in goal so leaning toward former for potential damage limitation?

          1. tm245
            • 14 Years
            10 years, 2 months ago

            Lloris Elliot
            Koscielny Azpilicueta Walker Simpson Rangel
            Sanchez Payet Siggy Alli Stanislas
            Aguero Costa Giroud

Looked at the ownership percentages of the biggest players and realized my woeful rank of 1.5M wasn't going to change so I shipped them all out on my WC last week. First GW went well.

        Which 3 would you start?

        A) bellerin (sto)

        B) Dawson (sou)

        C) Toby (SUN)

        D) Moreno (MNU)

        E) Johnson (ARS)

          Bellerín, Toby, Dawson.

I might consider Moreno and ask for a 0:0 game but Dawson more likely.
