Alexis Sanchez has a chance of returning in time for Arsenal’s trip to Stoke. Andy Carroll is ruled out for West Ham, Claudio Ranieri admits he’s still managing Jamie Vardy’s fitness, whilst Bournemouth’s Matt Ritchie remains a doubt for the home clash with Norwich.

Arsene Wenger has admitted he is undecided whether to “take a gamble” on Alexis Sanchez’ hamstring injury for the trip to Stoke. The Gunners new signing Mohamed Elneny is available for the Britannia clash, whilst Danny Welbeck is expected to return from injury in two-to-three weeks.

Claudio Ranieri has conceded that he continues to manage the fitness of both Jamie Vardy and Wes Morgan, admitting “it’s difficult to say” when the former was last 100% fit after recent groin injury problems.

Scans have confirmed that West Ham’s Andy Carroll will be out for ”at least a month” with the hamstring problem that forced him off at Bournemouth. Victor Moses is available for the trip to Newcastle, whilst Cheikhou Kouyate is expected to return – Slaven Bilic revealed the midfielder wasn’t fully fit for the midweek match.

Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Ryan Mason, Clinton N’jie and Alex Pritchard remain sidelined for Spurs’ plum home clash with Sunderland.

Matt Ritchie is rated “50-50” for Bournemouth’s home encounter with Norwich after being forced off with a dead leg against West Ham in midweek.

James Morrison has been ruled out with a hamstring injury as West Brom travel to Southampton. Tony Pulis has confirmed that Jonas Olsson will be assessed.

Norwich have no new fresh injuries for their clash with Bournemouth, Alex Neil has confirmed. The Canaries boss has also revealed that new signing Ivo Pinto won’t be included in his weekend squad, whilst Gary O’Neil sits out the first of a three-match ban.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Tom Cleverley is 50-50 to face Chelsea. James McCarthy is making good progress from injury but remains unavailable.

Sunderland’s new loan signing Dame N’Doye is not eligible for their clash with Spurs. The Senegal international has now left the country to finalise a work permit and is expected to be available for next weekend’s clash with Bournemouth instead.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Rooney suddenly seems a very interesting option. Even though he's been atrocious all season, when he fits form he can get double figures in a flash.

Got front 3 of Kane, Lukaku and Igahlo. Problem is, so many others have that - team doing well this season, but so few different teams mean leagues rarely change week - to week.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Is Aguero a poisoned chalice? On this week's Scoutcast Mark asserted that owning Aguero could be a problem as his price and pedigree means he will be captained by owners each week - meaning they miss out on hauls from the likes of Kane or Lukaku.

Is he right, or does owning him just means more points and more chance of a captaincy score?

Considering his and ManC's better home form is he arguably not likely to be captained week in week out by owners anyway. Is it just better to think of him as just another player (albeit a massively expensive one who is prone to points explosions when playing at home)?

Between him and Kane but yes probably. Palace have been poor defensively recently, his underlying stats are still strong and I expect ManC to give them a good game after dropping pts in gwk 21.

He's actually a bit of a differential currently so will do. Certainly not keen on captaining him away though.

Have Palace been poor recently? 3 sheets in the last 6 in terms of form, all season they have the fewest goals conceded in the league, and have conceded more than one goal a grand total of three times. Aguero is obviously in a league of his own, but Sunderland have conceded 41 goals compared to Palace's 20. Kane seems like the obvious choice...

im definitely not following this palace breakdown talk thats going around. 3 clean sheets in 6 and it should be 4 if it wasnt for the worst keeper error of the year midweek. they had one bad game against chelsea but thats a team that can do that to anyone on a good day.

When Aguero was not around, I always selected a wrong captain each week. So if I captain Aguero and he blanks, it is all the same to me. Missed out good hauls by Kane/Lukaku for the (c) so I am putting my blind faith in Kun and hoping for salvation. If he leads me to hell then so be it.

The thing is if Lukaku or Kane or Ozil get a haul then I still have them in my team so will get decent points. Also unless all 3 get a haul in the same week then many people will pick the wrong captain between them anyway.

AGuero is a potential 16% ownership haul waiting to happen. If I just had Kane I'd worry about Aguero, with Aguero as captain and Kane in my team I'm not worried about Kane.

Price is absolutely not a problem. The way fpl is set up, with 100m, you can always have two high-priced players (11+) in your team. Unless you have a defense of Ivanovic, Smalling,Terry and Cech, what are you gonna do with the money? You will have 5-6 million rotting in the bank. So, Aguero's price is not a problem at all. It all comes down to performance. If you think he is one of the three best strikers at the moment, have him. If he is not, have someone else.

      1. buffrey
        • 13 Years
        10 years, 6 months ago

This. I have Aguero but don't subscribe to the "he's 13m so I should be captaining him every week"

This week I'm still unsure about armbanding him or Kane. The thing he does give is a credible choice EVERY week no matter who's playing who. It doesn't mean it should always be taken.

Having his points when owned my 17% or whatever it is is good enough if you go elsewhere with the armband.

If he blanks with it, he blanks, its as annoying having your captain blank whoever he is, no matter ownership %.

Does Bellerin > Cresswell sound legit? Thinking this is the best transfer to do defensively.

Not sure i want to do without ARS defensive cover, but the rest of the Defense is Toby / Huth / Moreno / Delaney.

Sideways in the fact that I feel they have similar points potential. Both have attacking potential and similar clean sheet potential

I know there'll be no clear cut answer for this, but I am completely stumped on who to bench:

    A) Alli
    B) Lukaku
    C) Mahrez
    D) Ighalo
    E) Ozil

That's tough . Maybe cos of my Chelsea bias -

      Lukaku imo

I was on Lukaku, but I hate it if he scores and my joy is tempered by the fact that I've benched him. Also, Chelsea just conceded 2 against WBA - Lukaku could do some real damage.

I wish I'd saved my AOA last week, because I can't see any real justification to bench any of these players.

Just in case anyone else missed my reply, I am benching Mahrez. Mahrez stats and the Villa eye test. Villa seem to have realised that the relegation can still be avoided if they dig-in defensively. It is either boom-or-bust as I am going to bench Mahrez each week from now until he scores again, then he can get back to my XI. Too much value tied up in him so cannot sell, but he is perma-benched for me from now on.

I think Mahrez is the logical choice statistically, the problem is that those monster hauls are still relatively fresh in my mind. I'd feel a real idiot benching him against the bottom side if he runs riot.

For you it is different issue as you are top 50k iirc, for the most of us outside 100k, benching him 'could' be the smart move. If I were in your situation, I would bench Ighalo.

I'm benching Ozil. I saw his last 2 games and he wasn't much involved, contrary to what we saw against City or Bournemouth. Stoke is really good at home and Arsenal has bad history against them at Brittania.

He also gave half of corners to Ramsey. the other option is Ighalo imo, his stats dropped badly

Unfortunately we are all pretty much in the same boat.
When you take ownership into consideration though Alli should be the one benched. As you have Kane in your team you may pick him. You split the risk.

              I can't cause I don't have Kane.

I know it shouldn't be a factor, but it is genuinely in my mind that, with Kane (C) and Alli, my weekend could be ruined by 2:30pm on Saturday.

I've just benched Mahrez. Leicester grinding out the results atm and Villa tightening up. Vardy also doesn't look fit which is a factor. I'm not comfortable benching Alli home to Sunderland or Lukaku against Chelsea. Same goes to Ighalo against Swansea. I've changed my mind several times though!

Yeah it's a tough one, every single stat points to benching Mahrez...all except for his points tally and the league table 😉 I'm not comfortable benching any of them, it's such a headache.

Just checked and we have similar teams and rank, maybe I shouldn't be giving you advice! I can't stop thinking about the last time I benched Mahrez away to West Brom. Some times I think I'd be better off not having him.

          Got the same dilemma here.

Last minute I switched from Ramsey to play Lukaku and that backfired massively. Had already switched Ramsey for Payet, after having switched Wijnaldum to Alli instead of Payet my first choice 🙁

Got it on Lukaku right now out of that motley bunch, no last minute changes this week.

Who are people captaining this week? I can't decide AT ALL. Who would you pick out of:

    B) Mahrez
    C) Kane
    D) Aguero

I chose Aguero. I usually pick this based on which one I'd be most gutted about. I'd be devastated if I didn't pick Aguero at home even when he's a differential
