Wayne Rooney maintains his fine scoring form by bagging United’s winner at Anfield. Stoke and Arsenal play out a goalless draw at the Britannia, with Mesut Ozil missing out due to a minor foot problem.

Rooney Wins it for Red Devils

Courtesy of Wayne Rooney’s fourth league goal in three outings, Manchester United edged past Liverpool at Anfield, putting them right back in contention for a Champions League berth. The Red Devils legend – who surpassed Thierry Henry (175) as the top scorer for a single club (176) in the Premier League – is enjoying a resurgence of late and with 33 FPL points over the last trio of fixtures, has emerged as a viable differential at the 9.9 mark ahead of back-to-back home ties (SOU, STO).

Marouane Fellaini turned provider for his second assist in as many starts but remains on the periphery of our thinking. In light of Juan Mata’s absence of form (no attacking returns since Gameweek 12), we’re still searching for an attractive route into Man United’s lacklustre midfield – indeed, the Spaniard was reduced to sub duties for the second match in succession as Jesse Lingard (4.2) kept his role on the flank.

United’s trip to Merseyside yielded their 11th clean sheet of the campaign – more than any other side. Given the surfeit of injured defenders at the club, Chris Smalling represents the only secure route into their rearguard. Although he carries a prohibitive price tag (6.7), match-ups against Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland harbour strong shut-out potential over the next four Gameweeks.

Klopp’s Men Stutter Again

Defeat at the hands of Man United means that Liverpool lay claim to just two wins across their previous six outings, with inconsistency at both ends making it hard to pinpoint any tantalising pick-ups among Jurgen Klopp’s squad. Certainly, the Reds are suffering from a dreadful shot-conversion rate (4.2% since Gameweek 17) that stems from their lack of a consistent presence up front. That being said, their favourable batch of upcoming fixtures (nor, lei, SUN, avl) could reward those Fantasy managers who take a punt on the likes of Roberto Firmino, if the Brazilian can rediscover the form that served up a brace against Arsenal last Wednesday.

Ozil Absence Blunts Gunners

Mesut Ozil’s omission from the matchday squad was the chief talking point prior to Arsenal’s 0-0 draw against Stoke City. The Germany international had an inflamed foot but is expected to be passed fit for the Gunners’ home tie against Chelsea next Sunday.

Arsenal struggled to carve open the hosts’ organised back line in the absence of their midfield orchestrator – notching 14 fewer key passes than Newcastle United (20) this Gameweek – but did manage to secure their third clean sheet in four matches. Hector Bellerin, Nacho Monreal and Laurent Koscielny all serve as alluring routes into a defence that enjoys three home encounters over the next four Gameweeks (CHE, SOU, bou, LEI).

Another shut-out for Potters

The Potters chalked up six more attempts (14 compared to eight) and double Arsenal’s tally of shots on target (six to three) but ultimately failed to muster a single big chance without the injured Xherdan Shaqiri pulling the strings. Nonetheless, Jack Butland’s 24% ownership profited from the Staffordshire outfit’s first clean sheet in four fixtures. Given that Stoke have accrued the joint-second-most clean sheets on the road (five), they’ll fancy their chances of rebuffing Leicester City’s misfiring attack (two goals in five) next Gameweek, whilst upcoming trips to United and Bournemouth won’t hold much fear in light of their defensive form.

To sell him? Doubt it, I only bought him last week (in a dreadful swap with Giroud). Looking at Kane to Aguero. Ighalo to Aguero would be nice, but I can't really justify it as I'd need big downgrades elsewhere.

I'm glad you worked out what I meant Aguero is my next transfer with same current front 3 as you was wondering if you had decided yet, Kane seemed lucky to get points when I watched the Spurs game however if he gets 10 on a bad day...

Think I'll go to a second cheap mid in the form of Gosling from KdB to fund Ighalo -> Aguero

Ross Barkley : A case for consideration
    Pros:

-> 3 favourable home fixtures in the next 4 (SWA, NEW, sto, WBA)

    -> 5.1 PPG

    Cons:

    -> 14 blanks in total

->3.4 PPG in the last 8 games

I guess it ain't a bad thing to draft him in for Mahrez. Any suggestion please lads?

What of these options would be recommended?

    A) Williams -> Daniels/Wollschied (Prevents me from getting Aguero for 2-3 weeks)
    B) KDB -> Barkley/Deulofeu (Means I'm selecting them due to fixtures not really form)
    C) KDB -> Gosling (Leaves me no City coverage, although I'm likely to bench him anyway)
    D) Eriksen to either of the above two

    Chewing over the Toffees

With SWA and NEW next up for Everton now looks a profitable time to invest in the Toffees and certainly to hang on to their players.

Lukaku looks a key captaincy pick for the next two gameweeks, while Barkley is still heavily owned. And then at the back there’s Leighton Baines, who looks to be coming into form at the right time.

With 29,000 managers ditching Lukaku this week so far and 20,000 showing Barkley his P45 as well, now also looks a good time to capitalise on those who clearly don’t look at fixtures.

Which Everton players will you have/plan to have for these fixtures?

For Members here’s a table of their key performance indicators (it has a global filter btw).

I have Jagielka for UFPL and plan to get Lukaku in for GWK 24.

For FPL I have Lukaku (c) in place and looking to off load Bellerin for Baines. Just think Kosc and Monreal look far better Arsenal assets in terms of bonus and Baines is notorious for a second half of the season upturn in performance. Also as a veteran player I feel its my duty to get Baines in 🙂 .

Yep I'm keeping an eye on the situation - but when my midfield let me down this week KDB still got me an assist - plus they face Sunderland very soon, where I fully expect Man City to feast on lashings of goal pie, washed down with a cool pint of tonnes of chances created and a side order of assist salad.

I think he'll struggle to get anything away at WHU so should be a good time to sell...its just when he's back at home, or facing a truly terrible side like Sunderland that I'd worry.

True. Like Wijn, KdB just seems to enjoy being at home. between now and end of season KdB faces LEIC/SPURS/VILLA/MANU/WBA/STOKE/ARS at home.

                      Leic-tightened up
Spurs-who knows what team will pitch up
                      Villa-also seems tighter recently
                      ManU-tough
                      WBA-?
                      stoke-City's bogey team?
                      ARS-tough

That said, you will never capt him and Silva might just match him points wise.

West Ham was at home. Newcastle have been better at home anyway in recent weeks. Also note they may well have outplayed Arsenal - but they still lost. Everton and in particular Lukaku's home for is superb. Also Newcastle's main scorer Wijnaldum is purely a home player - hopeless on the road so far.

Was considering Mirallas, however upon further research, not convinced on his starting prospects. Martinez tends to start him or play him as an impact sub. For me that's too risky.

Also, if Mirallas starts then Baines loses his effect, as we know from last season, Mirallas in the team stops Baines from playing more advanced.

He's quite a good UFPL option, esp when Everton play MD1 or 2 as he does well when he gets the time. For FPL though a risk too far for me.

I agree on Jagielka - always a good option. He's my top dullard pick of all time I think.

i looked into his playing time last season, even when he scored previous game, Martinez would bring him on as a sub, or if he starts, Martinez subs him.

Lukaku only. Our defence is really, really bad, you only have to look at the Chelsea game to see that. Our problems won't all show up statistically, because we will play like absolute world beaters for spells, then concede goals from absolutely nowhere. We aren't a team that will be under the cosh for 90 minutes, but we will concede scrappy goals from easily avoidable attacks.

Just look at the Chelsea goals at the weekend. Ok, Terry was offside, but we only had ourselves to blame. Every goal was avoidable, they waltzed through the backline with individual errors littered all over our team. The first goal is really poor from Jagielka and (as always) Howard, and for the 2nd goal they are allowed to just pass through the defence like it isn't there.

Coupled with our appalling mentality, and inability to manage a game (I'm looking at you Roberto), we are always liable to concede goals even in games we dominate. In an attacking sense, the points are spread out too much, with only Lukaku providing any certainty of returns (I realise that Chelsea was an exception, but he was unlucky to get nothing from that).

I'm aware that this turned into an Evertonian rant, but I have to vent somewhere...

Barkley's problems are the same as they have always been: a lot of talent but slight "headless chicken" at times, charges around a lot without the awareness that will hopefully develop over time. As the stats show, his chance creation is poor for a number 10, a lot of spreading play to the wings (our attacks tend to focus on wide play), so I would expect a lot of assisting the assister. He also takes a lot of shots from outside the box, or from difficult positions. His goal attempts almost match Lukaku's, but Lukaku's will be from better positions.

I'm a huge Baines fan, and I really hope he proves me wrong, but with no penalties and no monopoly on corners/free kicks, I don't think he'll be worth it.

Yes same - I did get Jags for GW11 onwards and we know how that went. Will keep an eye on Baines, but not interested at this moment.

I ditched a cheap 5th for Deul to cover possible xmas rotation and he is still there, so 4 points off the bench for Ozil.

Will keep rolling 2 FT's if possible with an eye on DGW's

Hi guys, does this wildcard idea work for you - 1.3 ITB:

    Butland, Ruddy,
    Ivanovic, Toby, Moreno, Huth, Francis
    KDB, Ozil, Payet, Alli, Mahrez
    Kane, Lukaku, Igahlo

Unless Igalho scores big tonight, I'm looking to play wildcard and do this:
    Igalho > Kun
    KDB > Wijnaldum or Willian
    Ivanovic > 4.5 Mil defender

    Thoughts?

I've slightly tweaked my three main members tables to keep them a bit more relevant

Attacking Defenders, now sorted by team to put the emphasis on using it to pick a defender from a team: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/12209/

Midfield Monsters, last 6 weeks rather than matches, attacking stats per 90, max once subbed on: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/12380/

Hot Shots, last 4 weeks rather than matches, attacking stats per 90, max once subbed on: http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/12374/

NB take notice of midfielders who are on the Hot Shots list even if they don't make the Midfield Monsters list.

    Reposted from older thread ....

First Demarai Gray and now Daniel Amartey. Looks like we're buying for the future and it should give us a boost for the rest of the season - fingers crossed!

Why don't you sign better players? Best shot you might ever have to win the league.

There aren't many good ones available, although I'm surprised that we didn't have a go for Austin .... but maybe we did? Don't forget that Leicester will never be able to afford the huge wages of the very big clubs.
