Next up this Wednesday afternoon we roll out a heads-up on our Scout Picks thinking for the Gameweek ahead. This list of 22 players will also include some names in contention for a place in our Spot the Differential article, though will, of course, be subject to change, depending on the injury situation over the next few days.

Here’s the cast currently under consideration for Gameweek 31…

Goalkeepers

Watford’s Heurelho Gomes (4.9) arrives on our radar ahead of Stoke City’s visit to Vicarage Road. The Hornets have eight clean sheets at home this season – only United have managed more – and have conceded just one goal in their previous three at Vicarage Road. Meanwhile, Kasper Schmeichel (4.7) looks to claim his fourth clean sheet in five outings when Leicester City make the trip to Crystal Palace.

Defenders

Due to his threat from set pieces and security of starts, Craig Dawson (5.1) remains the choice source of West Bromwich Albion defensive coverage before Norwich City’s visit. The Baggies registered shut-outs in three of their previous six home encounters and are pitted against a Canaries side that mustered a paltry three goals across the past seven Gameweeks.

Considering that he’s earned all but one available bonus point (20) during Swansea City’s seven clean sheets this term, Ashley Williams (4.9) could be in line for another nine-point haul when Aston Villa roll up at the Liberty Stadium. Our confidence in the hosts’ capacity to silence the West Midlanders stems from the fact that Villa drew blanks in five of their last seven match-ups.

Sunderland’s Patrick van Aanholt (4.7) displayed his offensive prowess with more attempts (eight) than any defender in his previous four matches. The raiding left-back travels to neighbours Newcastle, with Rafa Benitez’ new charge struggling for goals, having scored just three times in their last six league outings.

With a points per game (ppg) average (3.9) that trumps Cesar Azpilicueta (3.5), Branislav Ivanovic (6.6) is our favoured path into Chelsea’s backline for their home encounter against West Ham United. Despite failing to record a clean sheet in five matches, the Blues rank joint-bottom for goals conceded since Gameweek 23 (five), which suggests they’re capable of frustrating the Irons.

The Fantasy Premier League’s highest-scoring defender, Toby Alderweireld (6.5), has netted all three of his league goals at White Hart Lane, which strengthens his appeal before a home tie against Bournemouth.

Following Jose Fonte’s return from suspension, Virgil van Dijk – who boasts a superior ppg average (4.5 to 3.8) than his central defensive partner – offers better clean-sheet potential ahead of Liverpool’s visit.

Midfielders

Notwithstanding Manchester City’s troubles on the road, they chalked up 10 goals in their previous quartet of home fixtures, ensuring that the fit-again Yaya Toure (8.5) factors into our thinking for the Manchester derby. The Ivory Coast international scored in his last appearance at the Etihad Stadium and remains the premier goal threat among the Sky Blues’ midfield contingent.

With seven goals in his previous 11 outings, Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.3) is the highest-scoring midfielder since the turn of the year. Given that recent captaincy candidates (Harry Kane, Sergio Aguero) have thrived against Villa’s generous defence, it’s no surprise that the former Spurs recruit is the fourth-most popular “transfer in†(21,000) this week.

Roberto Firmino (8.2) notched two goals and as many assists in his last three appearances, proving that his reversion to a midfield role hasn’t dampened his attacking threat. In appreciation of the fact that Liverpool racked up 11 goals across the previous three Gameweeks, Firmino is well placed to punish a Saints defence that’s searching for their first clean sheet in five attempts.

Looking at the league’s full roster of midfielders, only Riyad Mahrez has accrued more goals (15) than Marko Arnautovic (6.5). The Potters’ star man posted three goals in his last four outings and is next matched up against a Watford defence that’s managed just two clean sheets since Gameweek 18.

Aside from tallying two goals and three assists in his last four league starts, Dimitri Payet (8.2) reaffirmed his Fantasy value with a sensational free-kick against Man United in the FA Cup. Although a trip to Chelsea poses a challenge for Slaven Bilic’s troops, their best performances this term have arguably arrived against the league’s more illustrious clubs. Furthermore, Payet has served up four of his five double-figure hauls on the road this season.

Since Mousa Dembele’s return to the double pivot, Dele Alli (6.1) has recorded three assists in two starts, rendering him the prime route into Spurs’ offense beyond Harry Kane.

Mesut Ozil’s (9.8) exquisite assist on the weekend served as a timely reminder of his ability to deliver consistent attacking returns as Arsenal face an Everton defence with the worst home defensive record in the league.

Riyad Mahrez (7.4) scored in two of the Foxes’ last three road matches, so he’ll fancy his chances of gracing the scoreboard at Selhurst Park.

Forwards

In the wake of a five-match barren spell, Romelu Lukaku (8.7) has rediscovered his groove, bagging three goals and one assist in four starts. Moreover, the Belgian frontman put his former employers to the sword in the FA Cup with his sixth brace of the season across all competitions, ensuring that Arsenal are in for a testing afternoon at Goodison Park.

Having scored in his second-half cameo against Southampton last time out, Jermain Defoe (5.1) looks certain to reclaim a starting berth for the Tyne-Wear derby. Given that the Magpies have just one clean sheet to their name since Gameweek 16, the pint-sized poacher is capable of carding his third double-figure haul of the campaign.

Salomon Rondon (5.8) has been a revelation since Saido Berahino was restored to the starting XI, producing attacking returns (three goals, one assist) in his previous four starts. With a Norwich outfit that charts joint-second for goals conceded (54) next on the Baggies’ agenda, the Venezuelan forward will be looking to fill his boots.

Three goals in two starts highlights the calibre of Harry Kane’s (10.2) finishing prior to the Cherries showdown.

Although Jamie Vardy (7.9) netted one goal in his last six outings, his pace should trouble the Eagles’ obliging rearguard.

Sergio Aguero (13.6) notched five goals and two double-figure scores in his last four home starts.

On Standby

Shifting the spotlight away from the star performers, there’s a multitude of alluring differentials that could yet push themselves into contention.

Upon exploring the potential of targeting Newcastle’s flimsy defence, Wahbi Khazri (6.0) sticks out as a tempting pick-up, given that he tallied 11 key passes in his last four starts. On the other side of the coin, Georginio Wijnaldum (6.8) has scored all nine of his goals at St James’ Park and looked lively in Rafa Benitez’s first match in charge.

In the wake of Diego Costa’s suspension, Bertrand Traore – who carded two goals and an assist in his last three league appearances – could be set to spearhead Chelsea’s attack, furnishing Fantasy managers with an intriguing out-of-position prospect. Elsewhere in the midfield bracket, only Alexis Sanchez amassed more attempts (16) than the 7.1-priced Ross Barkley (15) in his last four starts, which suggests that it won’t be long before he’s watching the net ripple.

Graziano Pelle (7.8) and Odion Ighalo (5.9) both breathed a sigh of relief after they scored long-awaited goals on the weekend. The former bagged a clinical brace and ranked second among forwards for shots on target (three), while the latter played with renewed confidence against Arsenal following his first strike in 599 minutes.

Capping off the troupe of players on the periphery of our thinking, Alberto Paloschi (5.8) could be worth a flutter at home to Villa’s dire defence.

The Community Champions

Having scrapped the weekly vote idea from last season, we now operate a lottery system to pick our weekly candidates. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

Red Devil leads the way after beating the Picks by 25 points in Gameweek 17.

The Scout Picks beat an XI selected for the community in Gameweek 30 by assistant manager Andy85wsm by 68 points to 44. Gameweek 30’s Scout Picks Community Champion, as selected by our lottery, is GAWA 11.

In addition to a shot at the £100 Amazon prize, FantasyBet are offering a chance for further prizes to Community Champions that are eligible to play their games. More details can be found here.

Is Giroud a viable option for 34-35 for those planning a 36 WC?

    GW34 - CPL/WBA
    GW35 - sun

Thinking a WBA defender for Kompany is the smart move.
2 great fixtures and a DGW 34 to fall back on too..

Question is- Which of their defenders is the best bet?
    Is Dawson ok??
    Any thoughts on all this..

    Current team-

    Schmeichel, Butland
    Toby, Komp, Williams, Fran, Fonte
    Eriksen, Siggy, Mahrez, Payet, Stan
    Aguero, Vardy, Kane
    1ft, 4.2m in bank

Ugh I'm so unsure about making this change for Kompany!

I don't have 2FTs now, so I am really tempted to keep - defence has been so improbable this year that my backup (Saylor) could well get the 18pointer haha

Despite having assumed i would wildcard in gw33, I have looked at some potential GW33 WC teams and I can't say I was that impressed and I think I am now firmly planning:

    TC in gw 34
    WC in gw 36
    BB in gw37.

It means having say around 8-10 dgw players in gw34 (I can get 8 for free but sure others can get a couple more) but would also allow keeping leicester (sun) and spurs (mun) players for gw33. These players will also remain highly owned with non-wc players and have the potential to hurt the rank badly if people get rid to fit in 15DGW players for gw34. You then have the same players for gw 35 when leicester play swansea and spurs play WBA.

For the WC in gw36, we will have a better idea of cup finalists and sides likely to rest players. We can load up on the cup finalists opposition as well as potentially losing Aguero for gw36/37 (sot, ARS) to allow better spread of players on the bench. This could help with the BB and we don't need to worry about any blanks in gw 38 so doesn't limit our choices nearly as much as a wc in gw33.

Anyone want to point out obvious flaws?

    1. Looks good to me mate - WC36 ftw!!!

An arsenal player looks the best based on fixtures but I would want to see some form in the next few games.

Alternatively, Payet, Lukaku, Aguero, Martial, Smalling spring to mind. Depends how punty i am feeling 🙂

If Swansea keep a CS then Williams will get 9. Vardy's ceiling seems to be around 5-6 points lately.

So considering Swansea play Villa, I would go for B

My Comments on DGW 34 for those using WC in 33....BB in 34 and TC in 37.....

    A) Pick 3 Liverpool players
    -------DGW 34, Play 35, play 36, DGW 37.
    Players in contention IMO:
    Either Moreno/Clyne DF
    Either Firmino/ Coutinho MID
    Either Henderson/Milner (Price)

    B) Pick 8 players with DGW in 34 and play in 35
----- Choices of teams to which this applies are (excluding Liverpool): Man city, Newcastle, Arsenal, WBA.
Pick 1 Gk from the above so that you have a DGW keeper in 34 and plays in 35
----I am currently looking at: (bearing in mind price of players also as budget is a constraint when picking 15 players who are nailed on).
    Man city- Kompany/ KDB/ Silva/ Aguero
    Newcastle- Elliot/ Janmat/ Wjnaldum/ Mitrovic
    Arsenal- Bellerin/ Merts/ Ozil/ Ramsey
    WBA- Olsson/ Dawson/ Rondon

    C) Pick 4 players With DGW in 34 blank in 35 and DGW in 37
-------- Choices of teams to which this applies are: Man u, Everton, West Ham, Watford.
Chose 1 GK from the above teams so that you have a DGW keeper in both 34 and 37.
Chose 1 Striker only from the above teams so that in GW 35 you are not playing 1 striker ONLY.
Chose 1 Defender from the above teams
Chose 1 Midfielder from the above teams
These 4 players will be your Bench in GW 35......

I am currently looking at: (bearing in mind price of players also as budget is a constraint when picking 15 players who are nailed on)
    Gk- DDG/ Adrian/Howard
    Def- Rojo/Cathcart/Coleman/Creswell
    Mid-Payet/ Barkley/Lennon/Lingard
    Attack- Lukaku/Martial

This would mean Bench Boost in 34 with 15 players all playing DGW
Able to play 11 players in 35 with my bench of 4 blanking but playing DGW in 37
Able to then have 11 DGW players in 37 WITHOUT A HIT Using FT from GW 34/35/36/37.
Able to then useTriple Captain in GW 37.

Team EXAMPLE: for those using bench boost 34 and TC 37.

GK: Adrian (DGW 34/ Blanks 35/plays36/ DGW 37)
    GK: Elliot (DGW 34/Plays 35/plays 36/ NoDGW 37)

    DEF 1: Moreno ( DGW 34/ plays 35/ plays 36/ DGW 37)
    DEF 2: Merts ( DGW 34/ plays 35/ plays 36/ NoDGW37) BENCH in 37
    DEF 3: Rojo ( DGW 34/ Blanks 35/ plays 36 DGW 37)
    DEF 4: Dawson ( DGW 34/ plays 35/ plays 36/ NoDGW37) BENCH in 37
    DEF 5: Kompany ( DGW 34/ plays 35/ plays 36/ No DGW 37) Transfer out 1: Azpi (DGW 37)

    MF 1: Payet ( DGW 34/ blanks 35/ plays 36/ DGW 37)
    MF 2: Firmino ( DGW 34/plays 35/plays 36/ DGW 37)
    MF 3: Ozil (DGW 34/plays 35/plays 36/ NoDGW 37) BENCH in 37
    MF 4: Henderson (DGW 34/ plays 35/ plays 36/ DGW 37)
    MF 5: KDB (DGW 34/ plays 34/ plays 36/ NoDGW 37) Transfer out 2: Barkely (DGW 37)

    ATT 1: Aguero ( DGW 34/plays 35/plays 36/NoDGW 37) Transfer out 3: Costa (DGW 37)
    ATT 2: Lukaku (DGW 34/blanks 35/plays 36/ DGW 37)
    ATT 3: Rondon (DGW 34/plays 35/plays 36/ NoDGW 37) Transfer out 4: Martial (DGW 37)

The above is just an example.... Hope this helps all!

    Schmeichel
    Dier Dawson Wolly
    Silva Mahrez Özil Payet
    Aguero Vardy Kane
    Butland Bertrand Gosling Kompany
    1ft 0.3m itb
    Will probably WC GW32/33.
Silva to Siggy before Aston Villa? Yes or no?

Sat there feeling smug that my main rival has used his wild card already and only has 5 players who currently have a DGW 34

I can wildcard and get 14 plus Mahrez easy - plus bench boost. He would have to take a 24 point hit to match me.

Then I realised he was 40 points ahead of me... so really, given we're not playing for OR but mini-league cash glory, what on earth is stopping him (or anyone) doing that...

haha yeah this is also true for me, same situation. Am so happy - he's been leading the ML and had around a 40 point lead and had no need to do it, either.

Superior GW30 planning got the lead down to 14 points... will definitely have him come Wildcard - he has bench boost and TC, but I can use the chips far more effectively.

Good luck to you, Monkey, let's both win our leagues (and cash!!! and glory!!!!!)) 🙂

Some of these DGW34 templates look awful. Do we really think Milner is going to outscore Mahrez for example? Or that Moreno will outscore Toby?

Going without Leicester & Spurs makes me nervous. 2 best teams this season.

      Think of it this way

Milner gets 4 points just for turning up, so how many points do you think Mahrez gets?

I don't think the Leicester v Sunderland match is going to be the hammering everyone is predicting

Leicester haven't been as free scoring recently and Sunderland are noticeably tighter

Not sure but it doesn't seem that clear cut to me.

Only ones with fantastic fixtures are United & Arsenal

Kepp Mahrez for sure. Toby more difficult to call - Arsenal + Liverpool defense may cover GW35

Best punt for next two weeks prior to WC:

    a) Daniels > Dawson
    b) Ozil/Alli > Firminio
    c) Ozil/Alli > Yaya
    d) Ozil/Alli > Wijnaldum
    e) Vardy > Lukaku
    f) Vardy > Rondon

Really not sure about removing Kompany, even if Saylor and Dann are my backup choices (with Saylor currently starting) - the international break, coupled with the fact I also have an injured Shaqiri, just makes me think the 2FTs might be so good to have in my back pocket so I can take a punt prior to WC... I've only made 0.1 on Kompany, which won't be a season defining amount to lose out on!

If you are thinking of making a switch but don't have 2FTs, right now I'd advise to have a think about it prior to pulling the trigger - the international break is always a pretty dangerous time, you can expect at least one of your guys to come back newly crocked (cf. KdB earlier in the season!)

    caveat: YOLO factor come Friday.

      hey Prophet.

Take a look at Foster @ WBA? NOR then sun are a pretty nice pair of fixtures, plus upcoming dgw.

Thats what i was looking at, but i have Elliot already and Butland. Dont trust Butland anymore tho.

WBA stats are absolutely atrocious in chances conceded etc.

Yes indeed - this is what is putting me off of investing in Dawson as my Kompany replacement.

Hmm, what about Gomes, as the scouts suggest, or Flappy?

Flappy could pay dividends if Swansea keep a clean sheet? Can't sniff at 12pts + bonus from 2 players?

Yea, that might be a decent option. he was really bad vs BOU tho. Was watching the game, but yea. He either cant get scored on, or anything that goes on target goes in. My feeling tho.

Need to decide... STO might pick it up, might be good just to bring in someone else...

Yeah, Villa did have chances vs. Spurs and hit the post several times - apart from Norwich against City last week, I can't think of many games this year when a team has had zero shots (obviously feel free to correct me anyone!)

I am personally keeping Butland and will reassess at wildcard. Not entirely disagreeable fixtures, plus it's your keeper - no upside apart from totally random pen saves, and if they are getting Save points it's because they play for a bad team anyway! I basically never transfer them out unless I have an injury crisis.

Perhaps you're right, look elsewhere in your squad for tweaks.

              Hope that helps, Prophet 🙂
