We now turn our attentions to the Sky Sports Focus article this Thursday afternoon. As always, we assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries, the transfer trends and also cast an eye over the Scout team and our future plans.

Gameweek 33 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below are the players that caught the eye of the Sky Sports reporters from last weekend’s fixtures achieving the Man of the Match award (worth an additional five points).

FixtureMoTM
Everton vs ArsenalAlex Iwobi
Chelsea vs West HamManuel Lanzini
Crystal Palace vs LeicesterDaniel Drinkwater
Watford vs StokeIbrahim Afellay
West Brom vs NorwichRobbie Brady
Swansea vs Aston VillaAshley Williams
Newcastle vs SunderlandGeorginio Wijnaldum
Southampton vs LiverpoolSadio Mane
Man City vs Man UnitedChris Smalling
Tottenham vs BournemouthHarry Kane

A couple of defenders, seven midfielders and one forward made up the honor role last week. The budget to mid-price midfielders had a field day here, with Manuel Lanzini and Daniel Drinkwater the pick of the bunch. The latter has now earned back-to-back awards and now has four for the season, which is the same amount as Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero, and is also the fourth best value player in the entire game with 29 points per million.

Gameweek 33 Bonus Points

A pair of goalkeepers picked up bonus last week. Fraser Forster and Vito Mannone were the men in question as both made six saves to grab the points on offer. Leading the way are Petr Cech and Jack Butland, with 16 bonus points.

In defence, eight players grabbed bonus; six for tackles and two for completed passes. Tottenham centre-back Kevin Wimmer failed to complete a single tackle but was far and away the best passer of the ball at the back over the Gameweek, with 88 completed passes. Full-backs Simon Francis and Erik Pieters currently lead the way for defenders with 22 bonus points apiece.

In midfield, there were 15 beneficiaries in total: 13 for tackling and two for passes.Tottenham’s Moussa Dembele was the closest to picking up both after missing out on extra bonus by just three completed passes. Cesc Fabregas is dominating the bonus tables with 54 points overall from passing and tackling.

Jordan Ayew did his best to help the Villains’ cause after completing six challenges to earn himself tackling bonus and fly the flag for forwards.

Fantasy Football Scout members can access all information regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

ButlandStoke4.920.2%
HartMan City5.85.5%

Injuries clearly play a major factor here, with Jack Butland ruled out for the season and Raheem Sterling facing up to six weeks on the sidelines. Joe Hart could be back for City in time for their midweek Champions League clash with PSG, however, whilst Toby Alderweireld has recovered from illness and Petr Cech may well be set to return for the weekend.

LlorisTottenham5.48.5%

PayetWest Ham6.25.2%
KaneTottenham9.34.5%
De GeaMan United5.94.3%

The Butland exodus has increased interest in Hugo Lloris, Kasper Schmeichel and David de Gea for the run-in as many freshen up their options in goal. Dimitri Payet and Harry Kane fine form, both domestically and on the international stage, looks too good to ignore, with West Ham and Spurs still having plenty to play for over the final few fixtures.

The average amount of transfers remaining amongst the top 10 Sky managers currently is 3.9, whilst the top 100 average is 4.33, the top 1,000 is 4.99 and the top 5,000 is 5.27.

Watchlist

Here I aim to highlight a few differential players with low ownership that I think could be good options in the coming weeks to help you climb the rankings. These will be looked at in three specific price brackets to cater for our available budget. These names evolve with fixtures and form and offer Fantasy managers a nudge in hopefully the right direction.

Defender Patrick van Aanholt, 5.1m, 0.9% Alberto Moreno, 6.2m, 1.2% Laurent Koscielny, 7.8m, 5%

ITB: 2.7m
Transfers remaining: 8/40
Last week’s points: 95
Overall points: 1,830

Notes

I climb into the top 1,000 thanks in the main to Harry Kane as skipper netting a massive 40 points. The other success stories were Cesc Fabregas with 13 points, Riyad Mahrez with 14 and Eric Dier with nine.

With just seven Gameweeks to go, I’m in a fairly respectable position. Transfer-wise, I’m doing far better than the average and am therefore hopeful of a strong finish. Having said that, working out a plan to maximize the use of my remaining eight transfers is easier said than done, with extra matches, quantity of captain swaps and the inevitable injuries/rotation to worry about. Given the low ceiling for defenders and goalkeepers to return big points, I will be ignoring this area completely for the rest of the season unless I need to free up cash. Alongside this I’m going to employ a “go for broke” strategy in order to break into the top 100 and will be ditching the highly owned Harry Kane, Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and even Sergio Aguero in the coming weeks in order to make significant moves, one way or another!

Captain Plan

For Saturday’s round of fixtures, I’ll stick by Harry Kane and back his red-hot form to overcome the tricky tie away to Liverpool. I’ll be subbing him out on Sunday for Romelu Lukaku, in order to bank the captain swap for next week.

This means I’ll go into the following week with a free choice of captain, with Sergio Aguero already the stand-out candidate as City host West Brom at the Etihad.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, we’re running our own Fantasy Football Scout League this season and are sitting in first place in the rankings at present. With a £1000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8009000.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday The Fantasy Football Club show, where you can catch new host Max Rushden and Paul Merson at 18:00 SkySports 1 HD where they will be discussing the upcoming week’s Fantasy Football and asking former Spurs captain Gary Mabbutt and former Barcelona defender Abelardo for their #One2Eleven.

It depends where the extra funds are going. Bellerin is the money no object choice but The extra cash can make Monreal a better pick even if he's rotated.

    Okay *deep breath* - RateMyPlan (GW33 - 37):

    GW33 FT team:

    Robles (2)
    Bellerin / Toby / Simpson
    Barkley (2) / Ozil / Payet / Mahrez
    Kun / Kane / Lukaku (2)

    Myhill / Alli / Wolly / Dawson

    WC for GW34:

    Mignolet (2)
    Bellerin (2) / Sakho (2) / Rojo (2)
    Ozil (2) / Payet (2) / Barkley (2) / Firmino (2)
    Kun (2) / Lukaku (2) / Welbeck (2)

    Robles (2) / Van Aanholt (2) / Toby / Mahrez
(I've used Bench boost already so no play here)

Go Barkley > Willan for GW35 and play 4-4-2:

    Mignolet
Bellerin / Toby / Sakho / Van Aarnholt
    Ozil / Firmino / Mahrez / Willan
    Kun / Welbeck

    Robles* / Lukaku* / Payet* / Rojo*

Roll for 36 (probably) and then do Ozil > Barkley and Wellbeck > Costa for GW37:

    Mignolet (2)
    Van Aarholt (2) / Sakho (2) / Rojo (2)
    Barkley (2) / Willan (2) / Payet (2) (TC) / Firmino (2)
    Kun / Lukaku (2) / Costa (2)

    Robles (2) / Toby / Mahrez / Bellerin

    Thoughts? Any WTF errors?

would rather have Mahrez or Payet as vice captain but I don't suppose it matters. As a Spurs fan I'd be wary of benching Alderweireld, but I can see your starting three def getting a CS over him.

Want to get either Sanchez or Ivan on a 1 week punt but leaning towards Ivan as I don't want to show my hand to my ML rival I'm chasing by 25 points...

He has no chips left, I have all mine. Should i wait to get Sanchez in GW33 to keep them more in the dark for my DGW plans and get Ivan no? Or just say F it and get Sanchez now but risk him trying to add him in as well to cancel my advantage.

25 points is not a lot, especially if you have 3 chips.

Mahrez's returns at home since Christmas...

    3 1 1 6 6 3 6 3

That's 3.6 ppg form which puts him on a par with the seasonal returns of Henderson & Cleverley.

This weekend, he's facing up to this season's joint 3rd best overall away defence and the joint 2nd best on form.

    Gonna bench him. 😎

Also more reason to drop him altogether on a WC... Leicester have changed their gameplan from basically 'guns blazing' early in the year to 'just don't lose' .. They're gonna grind out a lot of 1-0, 0-0,1-1, type results for the rest of the season and I don't see him or Vardy getting big hauls. JMO.

Vardy is getting dropped, but the amount of money I've earned on Mahrez I'm happy for him to sit as my fifth mid for the rest of the season - even if it's on the bench.

Who's the best 3rd striker for our wildcards?

Aguero and Lukaku are the obvious 2 but who is the best bet for the other spot.

Kane not an option unless you've got silly amount of money to spend.

So far I've heard Mitrovic, Deeney, Rashford, Defoe.

Sorry Doos that may have come across a lot more dramatic than it should of been.. he hasn't given anything concrete on Cech which for me would rule him out as a punt and also Ospina imo as he didn't say that Cech wouldn't definitely be out.. making them both a no go for a one week punt imo

He said he couldn't confirm Cech would be ready.

Did Adrian in for Butland instead upon hearing that - could be either keeper for Arsenal 🙂

I am looking for the most nailed on team for DGW BB:

    DDG / Robles

DDG as nailed on keeper and Robles is cheap with a chance of a CS and DDGW

    Smalling, Bellerin, Gabriel, Sakho, Clyne

Smalling the only nailed on MUN for two home games in the double. Bellerin hopefully nailed. Gabriel should play but calculated risk in that he has played when Kosc/Mert are fit. Sakho and Clyne should be nailed as well.

    Lennon, Payet, Ozil, Firmino, Alli

I feel Lennons form outweighs Barkleys lack of form. I am keeping Alli over Mahrez as I can buy him back without losing TV. Firmino could change to Coutinhio/Milner depending on injury.

    Kane, Augero, Lukaku

    Keeping Kane due to cost.

Midfield a bit light. Lennon will be rotated too.
Mahrez is a better pick than Alli but that's a personal choice.

if you are looking for a nailed on team then you need to remove gabriel, lennon and firmino 😀

    Fabs form better since hiddink?
Willian plays both international 90 mins and a very long travel from south america to england could possibly reduce his threat??

    Confused choosing between those 2..

0.1m off my wildcard team, with Barkley potentially dropping in price - fplstatistics has him at -96%, he better drop before the weekend!

-96 is pretty close though isn't it, do you think there's no chance at all or just unlikely?

Now a good time to use AOA?

    Schmeichel
    Bellerin - Azpilicueta
    Ozil - Alli - Payet - Arnautovic - Mahrez
    Vardy - Kane - Aguero

    (Butland, Aldeweireld, Dawson, Williams)

        Can't see toby's cleansheet
        Alli's good away form
        Arnie is on penalty
        The other mids unbenchable

    here's my latest draft:

    Robles Mignolet

    Bellerin, Smalling, Sakho, Gabriel, Huth

    Ozil, Payet, Barkley, Lallana, Mahrez

    Aguero, Lukaku, Kane

-0.1m in the bank, hoping Barkley drops in price (which he's currently on track to do) but if he doesn't I'll likely swap him for Firmino and go with Lanzini instead of Lallana

On a Wildcard, can't see Rashford playing much so trying to upgrade him.

    Clyne - Coleman - Rashford

    OR

    Sakho - Funes Mori - 5.5 striker.

Which striker for 5.5 or under would you pick?

Tinkering with my WC team, any suggestions would be welcome:

    DDG, Robles
Gabriel, Dawson, Rojo, Fuchs, 5.2m defender
    Ozil, Willian, Payet, Coutinho, Mahrez
    Sturridge, Aguero, Lukaku
