So this has been a challenging fortnight.

Rolling out the redesigned site took me back to the summer of 2013, when we first introduced the HomeCrowd comments system. Once again I was pulled away from interacting with the fevered feedback, tied up with the small matter of ensuring that the website stayed on its feet.

Not surprisingly, Fantasy Football has had to take a backseat; in the next hour I’ll look at my team for the first time in almost two weeks.

I’ve had to remain dedicated to pushing the new look over the line, determined to get the site live in the season so that I could gauge reaction and gather feedback ahead of the next campaign.

I was quite prepared for a mixed response. That’s totally understandable amongst a community that had grown so accustomed to an established look and look and feel. I did have concerns about changing things up but, having stood still for five years, I wanted to make a change and modernise.

Ultimately, I had to react to the fact that the profile of our traffic has changed. According to our analytics, half of you are reading this on mobile right now and, on mobile, we were going to lose out on Google – a search engine service which is apparently quite popular.

However, like many of you, for the majority of the time I’m a desktop user. I fully appreciate that building a responsive, mobile friendly design meant that we had to change things up on desktop. I wanted to try to retain a similar layout, add some functionality like the dropdown menu and small things like adding injury doubts to the team news. However, while I’ve had over a year working with this new site, I understand that the change is jarring for all of you.

But this is a starting point. I fully intended to be on the site more in the last few days and offer more reassurance that we are listening to feedback and will be reacting accordingly. Sadly, with stability an issue, I had to concentrate efforts on that – this is why I’m dedicating the Preamble to this week’s change.

Obviously, I don’t intend to revert to the old design. I want to build on what we have now and provide an experience that works well for all.

We’ve increased our hosting costs to ensure we keep stability and that the new site performs well. Now that we seem to have established that, we’re going to start the first wave of tweaks and then work from there. We will look at spacing and fonts, we will restore dates and timestamps where they are missing and we’ll look again at the access to the Season Ticker and Recent Comments on mobile. We’ve already got our first wave of tasks decided.

Plus, I fully intend to iterate on what you see over the summer, when we’re not distracted by the Gameweek cycle. I’m confident we can make the new FFS work for all and provide an even better site to the old pair of slippers we found so comfortable.

So many of you have offered feedback and, despite issues for some, our traffic has not suffered the dip normally associated with new designs. I thank you for your patience and loyalty and if you have further feedback, please mail us at support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk so we can go on building our tasklist.

I’m realistic in thinking that we won’t be able to please everyone but I hope that you’ll settle in the new surrounds and that we can do one or two things to help that process.

For now, I’m going to fire up my team and do what so many of you have done throughout the last couple of days – get back to the football and the real job at hand.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Don't like this preamble at all. The issues with the redesign go way beyond the temporary irritations of getting used to the new look.

Give 'em a break. There's only so much you can do before going live. Let them monitor the analytics and address the priority feedback. Winge in a month's time, if it still aint right

My issue with the preamble is the general tone of "you'll get used to it". It's simply worse.

The layout is worse on desktop and it's really slow (hopefully a temporary issue).

Can you drop me a mail? Obviously I'd like to get more of your thoughts offline but also I'm a bit concerned about the speed issue.

We've markedly increased the servers behind the site to avoid this and my experience is that the site is very snappy - rendering pages quicker than the previous version.

It's simply not possible to redesign a website and it meet every single user's desires.

The information is still here, it's just presented in a slightly different way...

Agreed. Hence why the all out attack suggestion.

My Arnie over Alli pick is the most conflicting move I have made all season. I'm lucky to have played Arnie for all his hauls but I'll be damned if I don't covert Alli's points too.

Getting United players for their DGW? I'd wait until GW34 and go with whoever is fit then (talking as a bitter Darmian owner who lost out on United's early season CSs). I think Rojo is the way to go for what it is worth.

    1FT + 0.4£

    Forster
    Morgan, Huth, Williams
    Arnautovic, Payet, Sanchez, Alli, Eriksen
    Rondón, Aguero (C)

    Subs: Henny, Dawson, Paloschi, Francis

    A) Paloschi --- Defoe
    B) Paloschi --- Rashford
    C) Eriksen --- Coutinho

I’m surprised at the lack of punts on Alexis (c). Arsenal look set to score big (bookies say clearly the team expected to score most) and Alexis is bound to explode sooner or later. Can’t see City or West Ham scoring more than 2 where as Arsenal may just have one of those days and run riot 5+.

I don't think it's that much of a punt. Just look at his points from home fixtures so far this season: 3, 13, 8, 5, 11, 11, 11. That's captaincy material. And Souare is a liability.

I'm torn between Alli and Willian. In your case probably Siggy.

Which keeper should I get for Hart: Adrían (CRY) (ARS) (LEI,WAT)
      or
      Schmeichel (SOU) (SUN) (WHU)

Also should I take out Evans (SUN) for Bellerín (have the money) as WBA are playing for nothing?!
Or should I take out Alderweireld (Liverpool (A,)Man Utd (H),Stoke (A) for Bellerín and keep the money?

Was thinking on bringing him in, but then I read that he arrived late with his plane home. And Gus also said he's going to rotate, so I'm gonna stay away from CHE midfielders atm.

Been hoping he'll start this game for the past 3 weeks when I decided to keep him in my team purely for this game. Fingers crossed!

A lot of the comments about the new website design seem to be around the comments below each article, but that is not central to any website - if you look at any website where there are articles and comments below, the functionality is not designed around the comments section

This site though is more for discussion than the articles

Really? Okay, so am I. What resolution are you running? Can you mail me a screenshot at support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

If you're running HD desktop then the site is about 30% wider than the old design and you should be fitting more comments in the page when in full screen. On small desktop, I was aiming to get about the same comment real estate in and thought we'd got very close.

              Thanks Mark. I've emailed you.

I can zoom out but the text becomes way too small i'm afraid.

if I could see more comments at one time (like i could on the old site) i'd be supportive of the new design. however, as pages fly on the site i'm now forever scrolling and can't seem to keep up.

Good honest preamble. As you allude to, it's just the site on desktops that I, and prob many have issues with at the moment.

If you can close up the blank spaces and tighten up the design a little so the sections flow together better, then sure those concerns will disappear.

Desktop version is an improvement. Mobile version is a complete mess as it stands imo. I'm sure Mark will get it sorted though.
