Next up this Friday afternoon, we roll out our usual pre-Gameweek members article, casting an eye over the captaincy conundrum ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. As always, we analyse the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s reckoning, before rounding off with our opinion on the current poll standings in light of the data analysis, including our view on differential captains.

Captain Poll

With a couple of trips to Watford and Palace on his Gameweek 33 agenda, Romelu Lukaku is the standout armband candidate for this week.

A massive 75% have backed the Everton striker to serve up the points against a pair of defences with just two clean sheets apiece in their last 14 league outings. Lukaku – who has two goals and an assist in his previous four – has already scored or assisted against both teams earlier in the season.

City’s home encounter with West Brom has earned Sergio Aguero 8% of the votes. Having produced 25, 16 and 11-point hauls in front of his own fans, the Argentine is one of the few players capable of outscoring any double Gameweek option, though the Baggies have tightened up in recent matches and conceded just once in the last three.

Yannick Bolasie, Ross Barkley and Aaron Lennon sit around the 2%-mark for their respective doubles. Whilst four goals and an assist in seven underlines the latter’s form, Bolasie and Barkley have been highly unpredictable.

The Palace winger has earned points in only five of his 21 league outings ahead of back-to-back home clashes with Norwich and Everton, though the Canaries have one away clean sheet all season, whilst the Toffees have a couple of shut-outs in nine.

Although Barkley is more nailed-on than Lennon, he has netted in just one of his last 16 appearances – a pair of penalties against Newcastle in Lukaku’s absence back in Gameweek 24.

Elsewhere, the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Kevin De Bruyne, Riyad Mahrez and Harry Kane are backed by 1%. Like Aguero, all four are capable of explosive single-Gameweek hauls but can any of them realistically usurp Lukaku in our thinking?

Let’s start breaking down the player and team data for their respective last four matches and shed a little more light on the situation.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Is it foolish to go double Liverpool and Arsenal defenders? Any other options to Bellerin, Clyne, Sakho and Gabriel?

With Arsenal no if Iwobi/Welbeck too punty and Ozil too expensive for you and you can spare an Ars spot... 189.40% NOO for double liv.. Clyne is the only one I'll get for his plus attacking threat.. Or may be Mign if you need a playing keeper in 35..

Think I am going with the double up, Lovren/Sakho and Gabriel/Bellerin

  2. McNulty

    De Gea, Robles
    Smalling, Bellerin, Gabriel, Coleman, Clyne
Sanchez, de Bruyne, Coutinho. Firminho, Payet
    Lukaku, Mitrovic, Rashford

Team value only 104.2 so I have sold Aguero, got KdB and I don't think I have a weak link except Rashford. He can go for Defoe in GW35 though if it backfires.

    Last one, but RMT please.

I think you have way too much invested in the back. I would downgrade someone and upgrade either Mitrovic or Rashford if possible.

Seems to be a real lack of defensive options though. Delaney is 4 pts max guaranteed, 4 CS all season and in their worst run of form ever. What downgrades would you suggest?

It's a tough one alright. A downgrade to Jagielka won't give you that much unfortunately, but as mentioned below, a De Gea downgrade to give you a playing GW36 goalie could give you something to play with..

            • 16 Years

Yep I could save 1m with a keeper but its hard still and the Utd double gameweek seems too good to miss and the only safe options are Smalling and De Gea. Coleman to Jagielka saves 0.7m but I don't think I can free up enough funds without sacrificing a midfielder and it has taken me all week to make the decision to drop Ozil in favour of Gabriel!

No plans but many are getting Darlow instead who has the same number of games as Robles, Robles extra fixture just comes this week when I can bench DDG away to Spurs. Think Robles offers pretty good value at 4.3.

Hi all, I've been juggling things around for a while now and have got this so far. Money is a little tight with only 0.7 left in the bank. If anybody can see anything that could be juggled around slightly to help that would be greatly appreciated. I've already used my Bench Boost stupidly, so having to go without!

    Robles / Darlow
    Bellerín / Delaney / Simpson / Gabriel / Sakho
Payet / Lanzini / De Bruyne / Coutinho / Mahrez
    Agüero / Mitrovic / Lukaku

    How about this WC team?

    Migs - Robles
    Smalling - Bellerin - Clyne - Simpson - Clichy
    Sanchez - Payet - Coutinho - Bolasie - Iwobi
    Lukaku - Kun - Martial

Leaves me 0.5 in the bank. Clichy has started in something like City's last 9 games.

    GW33: 3 DGW
    GW34: 14 DGW (BB)
    GW35: 11 players using 2 FT

After 30 odd drafts I come up with a squad that has

3 DGW's in GW33 (Ward, Robles and Lukaku)
    13 DGW'ers in GW34 + Mahrez and Kane
A full 11 in GW35, with Fletcher as a sub
    10 DGW'ers in GW34 + Kane

    Robles, Hart
    Smalling, Belerrin, Gabriel, Sakho, Ward
    Sanchez, Payet, Mahrez, Milner, S.Fletcher
    Kun, Kane, Lukaku

I'm close to my preferred defence and have got 6 of my preferred front 8 (no Barkley or Coutinho), Given that Fletcher will only play DGW34, is my team strong enough ?
