Dugout Discussion – Portugal vs Iceland

Tuesday’s second Euro 2016 match sees Portugal take on Iceland, the smallest nation to ever reach the European Championship finals.

Despite using just 20 players during qualifying, Iceland came second in a tough group, which also included Holland and the Czech Republic, to reach their first major tournament. While their confidence will be further buoyed by a 4-0 friendly victory over Lichtenstein, the Scandinavians, who are under the dual management of Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimsson, also recorded a 3-2 loss against Norway during their pre-tournament preparations.

Fernando Santos’ Portugal topped their qualifying group and are veterans of the final stages of this competition, having reached the semi-finals in four of their last six appearances. Cristiano Ronaldo will be heavily relied on having scored or assisted nine of Portugal’s 21 goals since his European Championship debut in 2004. The Real Madrid forward also comes into the competition in good recent form, scoring a brace as Portugal beat Estonia 7-0 during their pre-tournament build up.

          Transfer out the players you want by clicking remove player on transfers page and choose their replacements within your budget.

        I'm not one of those guys who only focusses on points but Müller did play on the right wing, which is not so good for his points potential. And Ronaldo is playing against Hungary and Austria without their best central defender.

                    Since I'm starting to wonder how he even managed to play for Bayern, he seemed to useless. Lots of money there as well since him+Junuzovic mightget me Payet and Konoplyanka for example.

            He actually played mostly centrally, AM or support striker, only occasionally on the RW. Coman and Robben occupied the RW spot for almost the whole season.

      0.0itb, What to do? Leaning towards A:

      A: Save ft (Hide Dragovic away for round 2, get him back for Iceland round 3)
      B: Dragovic > Dier (For free but basically a -4 as it wasted a freshen up transfer round 3)
      C: Dragovic > Any 5.0 max defender. (Same as B, basically a -4 when it comes to round 3)

              No real plan when to WC, but defo didn't want to do it so early, not with that team. Was hoping to get through round 2 and freshen up with 2 fts in round 3. Not sure if it's even worth saving WC though.

                IMO it's not worth saving.
                You get unlimited transfers before round 2 and then a fair amount for QF etc.

                Kroos (what other good options are there for his price) / Perisic / Ozil / Payet / Hazard (I think it's worth the gamble, he was the only Belgian who wasn't abysmal and I believe Belgium will pick up and score a few against the weaker Swedish and Irish defence)
                Giroud / Pelle / Milik (he didn't really impress me, but he's the best option in his price range and I believe he will assist a few)

                It's a bit of a gamble, but thoughts?
