Dugout Discussion – Portugal vs Austria

Saturday’s events end with a collision between two sides scrapping for a Euro 16 foothold.

Austria arrived in France with a laudable record in qualifying and were considered a darkhorse. But Marcel Koller’s men were found wanting in their opening fixture, frustrated and eventually overwhelmed by the Hungarians.

That 2-0 defeat means that tonight’s meeting with Portugal is now more vital than ever.

Fernando Santos’ side are also in dire need of the victory.

They were unable to overcome an Icelandic barrier to earn victory in their opening group encounter and now found themselves on the back foot. Defeat to Austria would swing the group wide open, leading to a dramatic final round of matches later this week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      My gut is telling me to do Muller > Bale but with the format of the game I'm worried that I'd be cutting my own throat by selling a starter with all those doubts. What do you reckon?

                With Giroud, I think Griezmann is knocking heavily on the door.

                Sturridge, Vardy and Milik are good options too.

            With 2 defenders being a major rotation risk and you don't have Germany defence, I'd highly recommend selling one of them for Hector

              Really depends who you want to bring in, for instance if you want Bale, you're a -8 away because no way would i sell Ronaldo, so in that case I'd WC. Looks like you could easily get XI out just by selling Stanciu though. We also see if Stancui plays so that's a good thing.

            Wow just saw Portugal's highlights. Absolute miracle clean sheet for me with Hinteregger.

            Ronaldo looks like a good bet for next game against Hungary. Portugal need the win and its only a matter of time before Ronaldo scores loads based on the number of shots hes having.

            I'll just throw something in the pot for the WC or not WC debate...mainly for anybody doing really well and in with a chance of winning.

            During the WC I got up to 14th with my WC in tact at the QF's....That was high enough to look at all the teams above me and the similarity was amazing. The only chance I had was to flog one of the best players in the game for an out and out diff (Muller > Ozil)

            Needless to say I sank like a stone...

                See below...No...the opposite. If you can get really high enough and are relying on just one FT then you just end up having to take out a top pick for somebody that absolutely nobody else above you has (and they won't have them because they've been a bit rubbish).

                Save the WC for a much bigger shake up would be my advice.

              Is anyone else considering playing this round like normal fpl. I'm considering starting my best players even if they play tue/wed.

              As there are rotation risks I think this is an option. By starting gia and benching Rodriguez, I will be almost certain of some points even if it is only 2. However if I play Rodriguez and then want to swap to gia there is a risk he won't play meaning I could end up with 0 from that change.

              I think this will also mean no captain changes but I think it is a good option nonetheless.

                You could try it and stick with the plan if your captain does well. However, if your captain blanks, wouldn't the advantages of being able to change captain outweigh any points gained by your tactic?

                        Max of one transfer to carry forward between rounds (except between group stages and knockouts when unused are wiped)

                        Using wildcard doesn't use your free transfer as such

                Yes 1 transfer is carried forward to next gameweek if unused. You didn't use it as you wildcarded, therefore was carried forward.
