Saturday’s events end with a collision between two sides scrapping for a Euro 16 foothold.

Austria arrived in France with a laudable record in qualifying and were considered a darkhorse. But Marcel Koller’s men were found wanting in their opening fixture, frustrated and eventually overwhelmed by the Hungarians.

That 2-0 defeat means that tonight’s meeting with Portugal is now more vital than ever.

Fernando Santos’ side are also in dire need of the victory.

They were unable to overcome an Icelandic barrier to earn victory in their opening group encounter and now found themselves on the back foot. Defeat to Austria would swing the group wide open, leading to a dramatic final round of matches later this week.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Those who are wildcarding - how much are you allowing possible price rises to affect your thinking?

If we get the line ups and Payet isn't there would you lose him or keep just because his price will surely rise?

What about Muller/Ronaldo? They could easily score big in their last games given the fixtures but if they blank again they're bound to drop in price...

It's a niggling factor in the background, like a flickering fluorescent light in the decrepit office block of my mind. I'm trying to ignore it but it's the not knowing that makes it so hard to decide whether to discard it as a factor. What if Payet and the Spanish defenders go up 1.0 each? That would surely have to be a factor. 0.1 each wouldn't be worth thinking about. I'm going to be turning this over all day 🙁

I'm sure your mind is a beautiful open plan living space with superb natural lighting and all sorts of clever little features that make for brilliant storage 🙂

But yes, Spanish defenders would be another one - if you ditch them on a wildcard and they rise considerably you'll be sick to your stomach.

For me it's fogging the decision of whether to WC or not. I don't think we'll get to make R16 transfers before the prices change so I don't want to be priced out of the basic essentials. If I knew the rise would be small, I might still WC but I'd be making the decision with a clear mind.

    WC or Hold

    1. Hold current team:
    Kozacik [ENG] Rui [HUN]
Bonucci [IRL] Alba [CRO] Koscienly [SUI] Schar [FRA] Srna [ESP]
Gomes [HUN] Hamsik [ENG] Kono [POL] Payet [SUI] Perisic [ESP]
Jako [ISL] Giroud [SUI] Morata [CRO]

    2. WC
    DDG [CRO] Rui [HUN]
Barzagli [IRL] Meunier [SWE] Rami [SUI] Howedes [NIR] Guerreiro [HUN]
Grosicki [UKR] Witsel [SWE] Kroos [NIR] Payet [SUI] Draxlber [NIR]
Ronaldo [HUN] Bale [RUS] Sturridge [SVK]

What do you think? I was pretty happy with the first team but think it could be hit with rotation a bit and some players hit with poor fixtures.

If you're happier with the second team I'd push the button, I'm fumbling blind with the possible rest/rotation so I don't want to comment on specific players too much!

    Patricio / Sommer
    Dier - Hector - JuanFran - Rami - Strinic
    Alaba - KDB - Matuidi - Peresic - Ozil
    Giroud - Muller - Nolito

Looking to get in Payet for Matuidi but need to find £1m. Thinking Ozil > Kroos but do you think Giroud will play? Do I need to WC anyone think? Thoughts from the forum appreciated 🙂

No probs , glad you got a result. I am going to put in a formal complaint to Corals as I think the situation of not laying bets for that amount is cowardly especially when they can lay it off elsewhere themselves if necessary.

          I agree, seems absurd.

You obviously make very informed bets (the only way to do it sensibly). I assume you do a lot of research?

Saw your Albania low scoring one, what else have you got?

          1. George Sillett
            • 10 Years

Thank you very much fir the complimentary comments. Yes I do analyse and research thoroughly as I regard betting as a way of making money . I can't understand why people say they bet for fun - after all it is about money !
I try to price up outcomes my self and will only bet if my odds are bigger than those on offer.
            My Euro bets are :-
Group winner trebles on Spain , France , England
            Spain , France , Germany
            Albania lowest scorer.
            Janko top scorer

And the below , a system I opted on here before it all started. My stakes on it are to win £200 overall.

I have taken a look at BET365 Euro markets and have come up with the following:-
            To win outright:-
            France 3/1
            Germany 4/1
            Spain 5/1

IMO these are the only 3 teams that can win this thing
This gives combined odds of approximately 3/5 for any one of these to win which is no value in my book.
            However:-
            For a Germany / Spain final 11/1
            France/Spain final 12/1
            France/Germany final 14/1
            And now the anomaly
            France/Germany Straight forecast 16/1
            Germany/France Straight forecast 16/1
Using the anomaly to our advantage

For the more risk averse covering all these options using staking percentages of Germany/Spain 38% , France/Spain 35% and both Germany/France SF and France/Germany SF 13.5% gives combined odds of 3.56/1

Assuming that all teams win their groups then France/Germany cannot happen and so if you wish to be more of a gambler combined odds of France/Spain and Germany 5.24/1

I'm wondering why so many people are getting in Ronaldo. With the way this tournament has been going so far, a Hungary win or draw wouldnt be a suprise, at all. Portugal haven't been great, either. Not to mention his price - even if he scores he is very likely to experience a huge drop in price before the Round of 16 - do you really want to lose 2-3m only to get a wasteful Ronaldo against Hungary?

I own him and it's either him or Konoplyanka I'm looking to sell, in order to get someone likely to rise in price.

      • 10 Years

I am really feeling a Ronaldo explosion. He has taken 21 shots at the Euros - more than 9 WHOLE teams and the next highest individual total is 9. Portugal need a win to qualify and Hungary are practically qualified.

That's my reasoning for punting or Ronaldo. 🙂

I may be being ignorant, but why WC now!? Surely the purpose of the wildcard is a rescue when the number of transfers between rounds isn't enough to give you a full playing team (if two teams you were heavy on got knocked out by surprise, for example)?

    A) Vardy
    B) Sturridge
    C) Milik
    D) Morata
    E) Lukaku

Haven't got a bloody clue what to do here. Missed last round of transfers due to the website playing up so I've got 2 FT and wildcard intact.

    Sommer Rui Patricio
    Rami Glik Hector Dragovic Strinic
    Payet Perisic Dzemali Hamsik Junusovic
    Lewandowski Giroud Muller

Use the 2 FT or wildcard?

I'd be tempted to WC with that team

    Lloris 6.0
    De Gea 5.5

    Hector 5.5
    Juanfran 5.5
    Giaccherini 5.0
    Guerreiro 5.0
    Dier 4.0

    Candreva 7.5
    Perisic 7.5
    Payet 8.0
    Kroos 7.0
    Iniesta 8.0

    Giroud 8.5
    Kane 8.5
    Pelle 8.5

Thinking forwards are particularly in doubt to start.

same forward situation for me. Pelle is going for either Sturridge/Morata/Lukaku and may take a -4 if giroud is not playing and pop in milik

Price rises don't really belong in this game. I feel like they will just mess things up, especially without the rules being properly explained...

It's particularly that last part that is the problem.
