Our series of members articles that evaluate the form of each team over 2015/16 before assessing their chief protagonists continues with Chelsea.

Having clinched the Premier League crown in 2014/15, the Stamford Bridge outfit suffered a disastrous title defence and, after losing nine of their first 16 matches, replaced Jose Mourinho with Guus Hiddink in December. The Dutchman helped steady the ship and ultimately guided the Blues into tenth spot, some 31 points behind champions Leicester.

        5- 4.5
        5.5 - 5 - 5 - 4.5 - 4.5
        11- 8.5 - 7 - 6 - 4.5
        13 - 10 - 6

I did this last season before the game launched and it worked out well.

Hmmm...tough question but Batshuayi might be undervalued (price should be like Martial's last season which would be a bargain imo). Oscar is also one to watch out for as he has the potential to score and assist lots if he becomes more consistent.

Willian & Fabregas will be overpriced IMO , so avoid.

FPL Towers work in mysterious ways, but surely they won't be offering up a prize the size of Hazard for a pretty penny? The game will be broken before it starts if he goes on to get a great season.

You're probably right. Those "mysterious ways" just equal arbitrary which for me feels illegitimate. It is well known that the major tournament form and the league season form don't really correlate.

They don't live under a rock. Hazard was brilliant since the end of last season and they know it. I would price him at 10.0/10.5m myself and they probably will too.

Probably. Don't think he had problems with Mou, for real, but that performance was just so outrageously bad, and exactly on areas where we know he's very good, that it looked like he was bad intentionally.

The 'Is whoever worth whatever' argument is a nonsense.

Football clubs are just businesses, and they aren't losing money paying transfer fees, or wages to any players, clubs like Man Utd and Real Madrid make enough money selling pencil cases, and bed sheets to cover their out going costs.

Resources are finite though, so the question is whether clubs are making the best use of those finite resources.

You determine whether a player was worth the expenditure in hindsight, but asking 'whether he is worth it' is a prediction.

Yeah agree, it's such a difficult thing to judge due to the amount of variables. Utd have spent an awful lot of money in the past few years, many say it's been a waste but for example had they had Mourihno in charge 3 yrs ago & seen lots of success then we probably wouldn't be saying that. The future's difficult to predict.

£100m isn't pocket change for anybody.

If they had bottomless pockets, they'd be buying plenty more players.

            • 11 Years

            Well they have a pretty stacked midfield anyway;

            Herrera
            Fellani
            Mata
            Schneiderlin
            Sweinstenger
            Carrick

It's not like they need another one, especially as the first 4 names on this list were all in excess of £30m each - that just shows you how much money they have to blow.

I agree it's not bottomless, nothing is, but £100m to Man Utd isn't a big deal, how much do Adidas pay them to be a kit sponsor? and that's just one of countless sponsors they have worldwide

Alright, so the first couple of game weeks are always tricky for me as teams and players are still settling in. My question is, how do you utilize your transfers in the first couple gameweeks? Do you use them to get any non-starters/injuried players out? Or do you aim for good TV early on by jumping on bandwagons? When is a surprise player who scores well in GW 1 worth? It's here that I've had difficulties (not bringing Mahrez in until GW 4 last year or bringing in James Chester two seasons ago [15 in GW 1, sent off in GW2]).
    Thoughts?

I usually mess them up and then wildcard early on.

Plan this year is to just jump on everything as soon as possible. May start off with 5m in the bank also

Jump on the "right" bandwagons, which is the tough part.

Hits are more viable at the start of the season than at the end imo.

This is absolutely the truth. If you set out on a long journey and you've gone wrong from the outset, it's much more efficient to correct the direction early on than wait until later. (Daft analogy, but you can see what I mean)

If you can save 0.5 for price rises that's a bonus. Yes jump on bandwagons but try to avoid the knee jerks. Save a transfer if you can.

Ideally have the best players from the beginning, and let others get them in bandwagons, and then just let your FT's roll and only use them to swap injured player for playing ones, or change those of your players who are going to have difficulties to those just starting a good row of results. That's what I plan to do, anyway.

Italy have been so well organised because Conte has worked with that back 4 for a long time and they are all top players with a lot of experience and great understanding.

He doesn't have that at Chelsea so don't get to carried away saying he is amazing at organising teams and Chelsea have the best defence from the start. IMO.

Assuming Pogba moves to Man Utd, what is the consensus on his appeal as a fantasy asset?

Last year he scored 8 goals and got 12 assists, with 10 yellow cards, from 33 appearances. He also got around 20 clean sheets. This puts him at around 150 points.

However, Serie A is typically low-scoring, so with Mourinho's promise to play more attacking football, is he likely to score/assist more, and will it be enough to justify his FPL price tag (around 11m?)?

Juventus scored more goals than any PL team last season. And both Napoli and Roma outscored Juventus.

Add in the fact it's a weaker league, and he'll be in a lest dominant side, I'd suggest he'd score less.
