Next up in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Sunderland.

To get underway, we cast an eye over the Wearsiders’ team statistics under Sam Allardyce and compare them to both the rest of the Premier League and the first eight Gameweeks prior to the departure of Dick Advocaat. After that, we then delve into the data to assess their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources as we look to gain insight on their prospects for the season ahead.

After picking up three points – thanks to a trio of draws – in the opening eight Gameweeks, Advocaat’s decision to quit the club saw Big Sam appointed at the helm. The former West Ham boss took a while to steady the ship, though, and helped stave off the threat of relegation by embarking on a run that saw his side lose just twice in the final 14 league fixtures to finish two points ahead of the drop zone.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Well balanced?

    5.5, 4.0
    5.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.5, 4.0
    10.0, 8.5, 7.5, 6.0, 4.5
    13.0, 11.5, 6.5

(Prefer nailed premium GK + 3x4.5 def to rotate than two 4.5 GK cuz that would give me only 0.5 which I can't use to get premium def)

Bit more in defence needed I'd say.

        Respectfully disagree 🙂

Although I'd downgrade 10.0 to 9.5 and 8.5 to 7.5 to upgrade the 4.5 mid myself.

Thanx. True but need Chelsea cover as 10.0 is obviously so no place for downgrades.
Have 2 premium def spots + 2 spots for rotation (GK+3def)

Other tactic is 2x4.5 GK to rotate and 1 premium + 1 good + 1 to rotate def which is worse imo.

      I'd rather something more like:

      5.5, 5.0, 5.0, 4.5, 4.0
      10.0, 8.5, 7.5, 7.5, 4.5
      13.0, 9.5, 6.5

After Palace, in whom I have no confidence, who is the best team to rotate with Sunderland and Middlesbrough? Not sure you can rotate Bruntiesta

also, if you had Kun and no Chelsea would you get Haz or KDB?

I've been asking myself the second question for the last two days...

Leaning Hazard if you are totally set on having no Chelsea, but my preference would be to take one of their 7.5 mids (Willian, Fab) as quasi-cover and plump for the Kun-KdB double up.

Haven't seen De Bruyne in too many RMT's. I think he's a good alternative to Aguero to have some Man city coverage. In my personal opinion there's not a better midfielder in the league

      Looks decent.

But Paredes is unlikely to play, so I'd remove him. Also, Jones is a risk (I think Bailly will play personally).

      I'm sure you're aware Terry is short-term only, then he's a risk.

    Work in progress - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bnZDtHPIHTwEMO5Zm9Q5QDfrhc-NfjCnRu1HF7yq45M/edit#gid=0

I've created this sheet as an attempt to have a one stop shop for everything - feel free to use as necessary.

The ticker might need some work on ratings (thanks to Balders for helping me set it up) - I may even go back and do this manually so I can have the same team as different ratings for different opponents.

It also includes the current hot topics for July (thanks for Spencer for working on that part of the sheet) - we'll try and keep this updated so we have a library of hot topics. Hopefully FFS itself will have it's own library soon enough but for now we can do it this way.

Lastly I want to work on defensive rotations and will have a bunch of them listed for all the cheap options. Will try and work on that tomorrow

Thinking about an early wildcard this year. GW3-GW5 somewhere. Going for a staring 11 with lots of guns, and a very weak bench. Something like this:

    Foster - £4,0M
    Shaw - Terry - Azpi - £4,0M - £4,0M
    KdB - Mkhitaryan - Alli - Sigurdsson - £4,5M
    Aguero - Long - Gray

    What do you think?

Main things seem to be that it's zoomed in and that extra clicks are needed for things like adding a player

Ah yes, the zoom thing isn't perfect but I just zoom out. The extra click is a bit of an odd addition to the website. Especially as it gives the option to view information, which is also an i next to the player any way. And when you do click on the player all their info is also zoomed in.

I could get over the extra click, it's annoying as it was genuinely more efficient beforehand (not sure what genius came up with the idea of adding more clicks).

The zoom is the annoying thing. I can't see the strikers in the transfer page whilst looking at my team 😛

Has anyone found out how to, you know, just look at how much players cost on their mobile? I'm having to start transferring someone out just so I have the option to transfer a new player in so that I can view their info.

And yet its optimised for a vertical mobile screen.

And I will never get tired of clicking extraneous buttons. Never.

A great differential hidden in plain sight. If we get hints of him being in the front 4 for Arsenal he's straight in my team.

If Xhaka takes his spot as the ball player in the middle he could easily be moved forwards again. Of course we could put both together to really try and dominate possession. I've no clue how we're gonna line up as there are so many possibilities but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if Santi gets pushed forward, either to CAM while Ozil rests or RM.

There are mostly 2 tactics to safe money in defense.

    1.
    GK: 2 x 4.5 to rotate
    DEF: 1 premium (mostly Shaw) + 1 good (Mori/Williams/Morgan etc) + 1 to rotate between 2x4.5 + 1x4.0

    2.
    GK: 5.5 + 4.0
    DEF: 1 premium + 2 spots to rotate between 3x4.5 + 1x4.0

1st gives 1 premium + 1 good spot in defense
2nd gives 2 premium spots in defense for the same money

    If you were planning a post gw3 WC and your attack was;

    *** *** Siggy Fischer 4.5
    Aguero Ibra Rondon

    To fill the gaps, would you rather;

A: Hazard & Firmino (better team structure and no attacking double ups so spreading risk)

B: Ayew & KDB (fully playing the fixtures and doubling up on Swans and City attack)

Option A, seems like the sensible, in it for the long haul approach and I know I want Hazard and Firmino in my team at some point, but my gut is telling me option B, as I will inevitably wildcard post gw3 anyway and I may aswell make the most of the 3 week fixtures.

    What do you prefer?

Why not take a gamble with fixtures. I like the idea of Ayew as a differential too. Think they might start well.

Ive gone for B with the intention to swap KDB for Hazard after the Sunderland game. Not touching Liverpool players until GW6, might bring in Firmino on WCGW4 if he starts scoring.

Not sure Rondon is the best 3rd striker for the first 3-4 weeks, great fixtures but WBA are just not attacking enough IMO. Looking at Austin/Long, possibly even Sakho if he goes to Palace.

      C: Hazard & Ayew

Chelsea have good fixtures too so I would want some attacking coverage from them. The Ayew/Siggy double up is a risk but could pay off handsomely.

This was probably asked a bit last night, but what sort of role will this Grujic chap play at Liverpool this year? I notice he's not in game yet, but if he was played regularly/semi-regularly and just thrown in at 4.5 then he could be a decent option.

I had Souare but not sire I trust Palace, going to 5.0 opens up Morgan, and there's Brunt, but he's not really rotatable

Tempting. Many already have Siggy/Ayew and probably don't want too many Swansea players because other problems could emerge and then you're stuck with them. Very early WC is an option then of course.

I am a little bit sceptical without Kompany, given Guardiola is new to the league etc.

Well, he's been selected by 8% of the teams created so far, so I would say he is currently a differential but that may change over the next 3 weeks. I had Mahrez, Ighalo and Payet early last year so I'm looking for differentials again early this year. Proving more difficult but tempted by Adomah at Middlesbrough.
