A huge name in US Fantasy Sports, FanDuel arrives on these shores with a game built specifically for a UK audience.

The game has been created from the ground up over the past 18 months, at times involving members of the Fantasy Football Scout community, who were part of a beta test during Euro 16.

FanDuel has launched today and we’re very proud to announce that we’ll be supporting the game throughout the new season, running tips and weekly articles to help guide those of you who get involved.

FanDuel will be hosting custom Fantasy Football Scout contests, including free entry options, and will also be devising tournaments over the course of the 2016/17 campaign.

What is FanDuel?

FanDuel should sit perfectly with the Fantasy Football Scout community.

The concept will be very familiar – you have £100 million to build a team of 11 players and you can enter this selection in as many of the available contests as you choose. You can, of course, create multiple teams and enter numerous contests to increase your chances of winning.

The player prices change week-to-week based on player performance and, as with many of these games, there’s real appeal in attempting to exploit value options within the player list.

That’s certainly what we’ll be trying to help you achieve with our Weekly Shop and dedicated FanDuel articles.

The contests allow you to tinker with your selection right up until kick-off, so if you’re able to monitor team sheets and react quickly to opportunities, these can sometimes offer an advantage.

For now squads for the Gameweek will be locked when the first match gets underway.

This single-deadline rule is soon to be addressed, though. Typically, squads will be locked as the kick-offs go by, so your players involved in the early fixture will be locked first, allowing you to continue to swap out the players in your starting XI who are due to play later.

There are various contest formats to enter and, while those with higher entry fees will typically offer the bigger prizes, there will be large pots available for the smaller entry fee contests, depending on the number of entrants.

Each week, there will always be at least one free entry contest for those looking to get involved.

Why Should I Play?

FanDuel ignored the option of importing their US game mechanics and instead invested in building something new and fresh.

Not only does this mean that the game is tailored to us as Fantasy Football managers, it also ensures that every player starts from scratch.

FanDuel begins as a level playing field.

You won’t be up against veteran players armed with proven methods and complex spreadsheets – even those who have played Daily Fantasy Sports for years will come into this game with little or no experience of the scoring.

That means that the Fantasy Football Scout community and other experienced Fantasy Football managers have the opportunity to become established and successful FanDuel players.

When you delve into the scoring system, you’ll see that it sits well with us all.

FanDuel use a rich variety of match actions, all devised from Opta data, to power their scoring.

Uniquely, clean sheets are only a scoring factor for goalkeepers.

Instead, all players are rewarded for tackles, clearances, blocks and interceptions. Those scoring methods obviously favour defenders, whilst ball-winning midfielders also come to the fore – a rarity for Fantasy Football.

Of course, our Members have access to a five-year archive of all the key data and we’ve already created custom tables to help FanDuel players with selection.

You can view the full FanDuel scoring matrix here.

Our short experience in the Beta over the summer told us that it’s a very well balanced scoring system; there is no single dominating statistic and FanDuel have reacted to feedback to tweak the scoring for the final release.

The game will have you considering players that you’ve never looked at before, building teams that look very different to traditional Fantasy Football lineups. That can only be a good thing.

How Do I Start?

You can register for a free account via this link.

When you sign up, enter the promocode “SCOUT” and FanDuel will refund your first paid entry fee, up to £10, as free entry credit if you don’t win cash

After that, you can begin creating your first lineup and then choose to enter any of the opening weekend’s contests.

There’s a free-for-all contest available in the lobby and we’ve already set up a Fantasy Football Scout contest that offers a total of £200 in prizes.

This costs just £1 to enter and is available for 230 entrants – the top 57 places will collect at least £2, with the winner earning £25 and runner-up collecting £15.

This week and on several occasions over the season we’ll be offering special contest options.

Look out for our full strategy guide to the game next week and also our regular Weekly Shop and FanDuel Focus articles over the course of the season.

He got injured for the entire season before his bench warmer season so found it difficult to get into an already established team. Won youth champions league before joining Ajax and got named as player of the tournament. Danes always do well after going through the dutch system just like Eriksen. Plays same combo of LW/CAM as Eriksen and with Leadbitter injured should provide most assists for Boro aside from any accumulated by Rhodes/Negredo who might share goals making it difficult to pick between them both.

    Courtois - Jakupovic
    Azpilicueta - Shaw - 5.0 - McAuley - 4.0
    Hazard - Mkhitaryan - Tadic - Fischer - Capoue
    Aguero - Lukaku - Gray

5.0 DEF will be one of: Gabriel, Williams, Stones, Morgan - depending on the transfers situation

Nothing bad with the double Chelsea either in defence. You obviously doing it for a reason.

      I'd want a better/more PL-tested 4th MID than Fischer.

I'd downgrade Courtois to a 5.0 or even 4.5 so you can increase your MID options. (Capoue's never going to do much for you either...)

Anyone has any clue about the CB Watford signed from Genk, Kabasele? He is the only Watford defender worth £5.0m, and I heard Mazzari plays 3 at the back.

This is regarding a draft game. 🙂

I do, but not sure about the prospect at Watford.

He was a striker initially before he went to Genk so stats from earlier clubs are a bit misleading. He is a left CB, still pretty young and has much to learn. He can be a bit impulsive but to wrap it up, he was one of the better CB in the Belgian league, but ofcourse it's not compared to the PL

I don't like Rooney but given he is captain and is no longer under Van Gaal, 9.0M looks far better than Ibra at the start (although I'm a big Ibra fan!). Even if he starts not like a train, a couple of goals/assists will see a value rise because of the Man United fan base factor and his fame. He is also a differential.

He's prolific, he's dominating, he bullies defences. The premier league won't know how to deal with him. The great Zlatan Ibrahimovic, playing against Bournemouth!!! He will tear them apart. With service from Mhki, Martial and Rooney I can see him consistently scoring points this season. He is the first name on my team sheet.

Alli prone to a card or 2 but it's a good team, if ayew moves and goes to playing in midfield at West Ham I may switch him from mine

Pretty balanced for an Aguerovic team, not much of a fan of Alli though.

Really like it (probably because this is pretty much my team). I have Gray, because he's scoring for fun at the moment and why not! Also have Tadic instead of Ayew (saints fan) and Delafou for the OOP. But to be honest once the framework is set up it's just guesswork for who fills it. I think flexibility is so important. They say a lot is revealed after GW1, but I disagree. It takes at least 4 GW's before trends reveal themselves. Go with your gut and tweak

Tekkers had better move in the PL pretty sharpish cause I'm tired of waiting!

Yeah even if he gets a transfer probably start on the bench with no pre season matches played

Me too. Having to alter the whole strategy of my team as even if he gets a move shortly he has played so little first team football that he is likely to be banched initially.

Yeah agree with both of ur comments, he will unlikely start and won't get the minutes right away

I have looked through the choices in mids priced at £5.5M or less and am struggling to decide on the best option.
The ones that seem most obvious are :-
    Fischer
    Phillips
    Gradel
    Ibe
    Feghouli

Does anyone think Loftus-Cheek has a chance of pitch time ?
If not who would be your pick ?

Gradel or Ibe, the rest, to me, are not worth the money you save.

Fischer purely for fixtures but there is no way any of them will be in my team tbh.

I could easily lose 1M from defence which would give me a midfield of :-
        Hazard , Mkhi , Firmino, Delboy , 6.5 M which I actually like.
Thanks Worzel think you have solved the problem.

In fact, what formation you playing? 4.5M mid for me if 3-4-3. If 3-5-2 then definitely get better than a 5.5M for your 5th mid.

This is where I am at . First time I have actually liked my team :-
              Foster , Jakupovic
Kone , Williams /Stones, Terry , McAwley , Amat ( or ano fodder)
              Mkhi , Hazard , Firmino , Delboy , Tadic/ Ayew
              Aguero , Wilson , Austin

Gradel for me inspite of the fixtures.

Phillips could do well to but WestBrom are just not attacking enough.

Are Swansea still going to be worth investing in for a defensive rotation with Williams leaving? Leaning towards no...

I'm very much willing to spend the 9.0 on 2 4.5 keepers. I think the Foster + Jaku combo is doomed. Who do you see rotating the best? For me, at least from the get-go, Foster and Mannone rotate well!

I'm going with Mannone Pickford, a solid choice and only £8.5 😉

Bps unlikely, would need 18 saves to equal 1 cleanie ...

I see 2-3 cleanies for WBA and 0-1 for Burnley

      What's wrong with Foster Jaku?

WBA look likely to get a couple of cleanies and most wouldn't play Jaku at all anyway but if he starts its a (minor) safety net in case Foster misses out
