The Fantasy Football Scout Dugout FC League draft night is fast approaching.

For those who missed our introductory article, Dugout FC is a free to play, draft-based Fantasy game that allows you to join or create a custom league, made up of multiple divisions.

There’s full promotion and relegation between the divisions and the game itself is driven by an Opta-based scoring system so advanced, Dugout FC are convinced it’s one of the best around.

It’s not too late to sign up to take part in draft night, which takes place this Friday at 8pm UK time.

In addition to resetting our 69-division Fantasy Football Scout South league from last year, we have also created a brand new Fantasy Football Scout North league to meet demand for the upcoming campaign.

Tactics for Draft Night

Dugout FC’s draft system is classified as a “snake” draft.

The team with the first overall pick selects, followed by the team with the second pick, third pick, and so on. At the end of the first round, the team that just drafted (with the last pick in the first round) will have the first pick in the second round and the round continues in reverse order.

There are ten teams in a division with up to 18 players allowed in each squad, there will be 18 rounds of picks before each of the teams are complete.

During the draft, you’ll have two minutes to claim your pick before your shortlist kicks in and selects a player on your behalf.

Preparation for draft night is key and the first step, aside from forming your shortlist in Dugout FC, is to form a ranking sheet for the players on your list.

This will structure your targets in order of preference – the bigger your list, the more you’ll have to turn to on the night as the two minutes ticks down on your selection.

The obvious tactic is to work down your list, prioritising your high rank players, although there will be times when you’ll consider reacting to the selections of others, perhaps promoting a player in your ranking list or even bringing in a new player. Fundamentally, however, for at least the first three or four rounds, it’s a good idea to stick to your decided ranks in order to start your squad with a foundation of players that you have some confidence in. After that, you can consider taking risks.

Getting your first round pick right is crucial as there can be a large points gap between the player list’s handful of high performing players and the chasing pack.

In 2015/16 just five players breached the 200 points barrier, including Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil, who were the game’s highest scorers and the standout midfield picks, finishing on 254 and 242 points respectively. The rest of this elite 200 point club were made up of three forwards, Harry Kane on 230 points, Sergio Aguero on 220 and Jamie Vardy on 204.

To put their points scoring feat into perspective the next highest placed midfielder was Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen on 197, while the next highest placed forward was Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez on 188.

Player Versatility

Another notable feature of Dugout FC is the concept of player versatility. For example, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney can all be played either in midfield or as a forward.

You should take a note of such players as, securing an asset who can fulfil a number of roles offers flexibility and can help cover injuries.

Be aware though they will score differently depending on where they are fielded. Midfielders earn a point for a clean sheet but need to complete 40 passes per point, while forwards only need to complete 30.

The Scoring Model

Be sure to check in on Dugout FC’s scoring model to be clear on the match events at play and how these are applied, in particular, across the positions.

The scoring is finely balanced between full-backs and centre-backs but you’ll want to either target dominant defenders who win a raft of aerial balls, or forward-thinking full-backs who provide a ready supply of accurate crosses.

The criteria for midfielders is pretty clear – aside from goals and assists, those who make accurate passes, accompanied with chances created, should be high on your list of priorities.

However, given that there are points earned for fouls won, you should also factor in those players who frequently run at opponents and earn free kicks for their side. Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha topped last season’s fouls won table with 90, closely followed by Mahrez on 83 and Swansea’s attack minded midfielder Andre Ayew on 78.

Up front, it’s clearly all about goals and shots, although again, big centre forwards who also draw fouls offer some handy supplementary points. Harry Kane looks a good prospect in this regard having won 55 fouls last term as well as topping the goal attempt table.

Dugout FC’s player list offers a full rundown of last season’s points to offer guidance on your draft night priorities. This, combined with the statistics in our Members area, should help you form your ranking list ahead of tomorrow evening.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Once again, if you’re yet to sign up, it’s not too late and here is a reminder of the link to join our newly created Fantasy Football Scout North league. This can also be found by scanning leagues.

Good luck to all on draft night.

For peeps who are troubled with the FFS site layout on desktop/lappy with a widescreen monitor, if your font becomes too small to be readable when you click zoom to 90-80-70% etc., then do the following.

For Chrome browser, go into advanced settings and into Font Settings. In their at the bottom there is a minimum font size setting. Select a suitable one and presto! Now you can zoom to lower than 100% and still maintain a readable font-size.

After a bit of a research it seems as though Redmond definitely has a spot to lose up front with Long. Can't really resist that at 6mil

A combination of pre season games, fans comments on Soton boards and Puel tactics/comments. As we know Redmond has been used up front in pre season and Puel has said he sees him as a striker. At Nice Puel employed the same formation and up front used small pacey stikers in his fluent style, suiting Long and Redmond. Fans on boards seem to suggest this formation won't at all suit Austin who is very much a penalty area player who doesn't like to drop deep as required by this formation. Jrod is in the mix but simply too rusty at the moment and doesn't look like threatening a starting spot.

It's tempting to have him, as well as Ayew and Deulofeu, 7.5, 6.5. and 6.0. mids playing as strikers. Gives you plenty of room to accommodate a Kubra frontline.

Mind you, it leaves the midfield looking rather unsexy and scary, if things don't go as planned.

Wenger wants Alexis and Ramsey for the Liverpool match, when Sanchez will play as the main central striker. #Arsenal

Wenger will look to experiment with the Chilean international in a more central role in the Gunners’ next two friendly fixtures, starting against FK Viking on Friday.

    Looking forward to those friendlies.

Apologies, dunno how I forgot to add Feghouli in

He actually managed a goal AND an assist through preseason, must have just missed him for some strange reason

Anyway as far as I know it's 100% up to date now, but Cartesian doubt is creeping into my mind now so I'm going to run through it again and see if anyone else has gone rogue...

The only annoying thing is when someone different scores/ assists

Have to go back and check their minutes over the entire preseason

But still quicker than putting in 500+ players individually

6.5 fwd, currently Long. Not a lot of spare cash to "load up" on midfields unless you want a rank defence. Balance is difficult, struggling myself. Went Mahrez, Haz, Bolaise, Deulefeu and Capoue.

Opting for a premium defense at the minute 😀

    Foster
    Souaré, van Dijk, Fernández
    Hazard, Mahrez, Redmond, Bolasie
    Aguero, Vardy, Lukaku

    Bench; Pickford, McAuley, Friend, Fletcher

      Valencia, Gabriel, Friend
      Hazard, Deulofeu, Redmond, Ramirez
      Kun, Ibra, Kane

      Jaku, Capoue, Evans, Lenihan

*Gabriel obviously only if we don't sign another CB. If Williams ends up at Everton i'll have him. Basically whoever looks the best 5.0m mil option will take this spot. Lenihan might be Paredes or B.Smith

I see huge value in the mids personally. Redmond playing up front for Soton @6mil. Ramirez nailed in the hole for Boro, can see him being involved in 50% of their goals, great fixtures to start with. Deulofeu is fpl gold when on the pitch. After this pre season should have a spot to lose.

Could it really do that much damage? Doesn't the strike force make up for it? I personally see no reason as to why we can't look at the front 7 as a whole rather than separating into mid and fwds. If a big hitting mid goes nuts i'll probably have 2 FT GW3 to get them anyway. I reckon it's unlikely that a big hitting mid will be that urgent to have to get anyway

Not particularly. Ayew/Siggy only really good for first 2 gws, Ayew under transfer speculation and Siggy yet to play a minute since returning from Euros. Arnie not great value at 7.5mil. I like Tadic but I like Redmond more up front for 1.5mil less.

Pogba or no Pogba I can't see United winning the championship this season.

This. He's been afforded obvious preferable treatment by LvG. His fitness meant Xabi Alonso took his spot at Bayern. As a Bayern legend, shouldn't they have found him a spot in the starting 11 if he has that much to contribute? With his lack of fitness, I'm sure he's happy bagging the $.
Not sure how he got in the German team based on his performances. Easy to keep him in the first team - takes a strong individual to make difficult decisions. Mourinho is that.

Would you though? If you were getting paid a very lucrative wage and you knew that you wouldn't be compensated as such elsewhere. Knowing that you were nearing the end of your career which probably set in over two years ago at Bayern.
Also, would you be inclined to leaving if your spouse who last year said she was going to be based out of England?

How did it go for him at Chelsea Nidge?

He acted like a classless tramp, he lost the plot, he lost the dressing room.

This Schweinsteiger thing is cowardly. He doesn't owe him etc is getting bandied about, grand if that's what people think. Respect is due in my thinking. Trying to act the big man to send a message out to the rest of his squad.

But Rooney is the prize pig for now.

I don't think id go down the line of he made the hard calls at Chelsea he did it dying on his hole no exactly covered in glory for me.

Most successful manager in their history so pretty well aside from the start of last season that led to his sacking which is precisely why the Chelsea fans were up in arms and disgraced by the decision to fire him.. some of his behaviour was bang out of order i'm not denying that but the players have to be held accountable too

It's not cowardly at all it's cowardly attacking Mourinho for making a decision to marginalise a player he never signed and wouldn't have signed in the first place.. a player who has had quite clearly had little interest in getting into shape and performing on the pitch.. we have brought this guy in to be ruthless and make the big decisions just as Fergie did for all those years.. he doesn't see the guy as a part of his plans big deal..

"It's not cowardly at all it's cowardly attacking Mourinho for making a decision to marginalise a player he never signed and wouldn't have signed in the first place.. "

Must sack the old having an opinion on football on an internet forum in case I'm deemed to be making a cowardly attack on Mourinho.

                  Lol.

For me his time as Chelsea manager can't be viewed in a snapshot. It was two very different periods in all honesty. He had to be sacked for fairly caustic behaviour. His previous tenure was nothing really like the second in terms of public stories of internal fallout. He showed similar behaviour at Real Madrid. It's seems to be a recent enough trend. This adds to it for me. We don't have to agree on this, in fact I'm glad we don't. I think it's fairly obvious that I'm looking at this in an unblinkered way.

The whole point of my post is I don't think these kind of treatments are good for morale. Sell the player. Let him go on a free transfer even. Hard decision made, ruthless decision made and done right. This kind of thing creates negative press. Fergie? He was the man at ruthless and he got rid of boys in their pomp. Stam, Beckham you name it.

I personally think there is a way of dealing with things and managing people. I don't agree for me that what is happening here is good practice.

But as always the proof is in the pudding. We will see how it all pans out in the season ahead.

Not to totally disregard what you have said there though you make good reasonable points but it's no coincidence that the two clubs at which he was never in total control of player recruitment and was undermined at every turn from those above was the two at which serious problems started to appear.. players going behind his back to owners etc.. wouldn't be a nice situation.. it's also no coincidence that the 2 clubs he had no such distractions and was in full control of anything football related at Inter and Porto he left on great terms and everyone at both clubs were heartbroken when he left.. after winning the CL with both among other trophies.. i believe he will enjoy the same level of control at United fwiw

He will pamper the pampered then but send Schweinsteiger to Coventry.

Not a great start for me generally in terms of morale. That isn't the United way for me but whatever.
