We were dressed for success, but success it never comes.

Suited and booted, we crown the new season riding a wave of giddy optimism. The positivity flows on the eve of a new campaign which, on paper, looks destined to be one of the best in memory.

Granville makes a belated return to ScoutCast action to join Jonty, Andy and myself as we start to sift the seemingly endless array of options open to us on the new season player list.

It’s bewildering stuff but, guided by you, the community, we attempt to navigate all your pre-season questions before laying our own cards on the table.

It’s amazing to be back amongst it again. Let’s just hope the smiles stay as wide for the next episode.

he ScoutCast is first aired live on our YouTube channel on Thursday night. Be sure to subscribe to get a heads up on future broadcasts.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I feel good about playing fixtures defensively for the first four weeks. With that in mind, I've gone light on defense and heavier in midfield.

    How's this look:

    Friend - Souare - Mee - (Evans) - (Amat)
    Sanchez - Hazard - Tadic - Lamela - (Capoue)
    Aguero - Vardy - Carroll

Baines to Evans gets you 1.0, and the other 0.5 should definitely come from your GKs. No need to spend 10.0 on them combined.

I pity those who have selected Vardy over Ibra and have spent the extra cash elsewhere like the greedy pigs they are. It will come back to haunt them if Ibra starts out on fire; they will be scrambling to somehow get him back into their side without wasting points on transfers. It doesn't matter whether you THINK Ibra will do well or not. His high ownership makes it too big of a risk not to account for. Those who don't either get Ibra or set aside cash for him are committing a foolish mistake. If the risk pays off, consider yourself lucky.

A lot of people though, myself included, play the game a different way. I don't look at ownership, especially at the start of the season, and it doesn't factor into my decision making. I've picked Vardy because I think he will outscore Ibra over the first 6-10 GWs of the season.

I don't think it's right to call that a 'foolish mistake'. It's just how different people play the game differently. Pick value players and players who you think will score the most points. Simple.

I agree. I picked Vardy myself and believe he will outscore Ibra as well. The reason I believe it is a little foolish not to have backup cash is because if Ibra hits the ground running, people like you and I will want to scoop him up asap so as not to get left behind by those who have him

Agree with this, it's a tactical move, he's obviously a class player and United need a fast start.

The aura around him reminds me of when Aguero signed, no one knew what he'd do, his debut against Swansea was amazing, got a feeling Zlatan could do something similar.

      Sky demand it 🙂

I picked the 27 year old Chilean that beat Lionel Messi in the Copa America final. I'm pretty ok with that 11m spent. Don't need the Swede that struggled against Ireland.

Well actually most people on this site who have Vardy have saved 1m to switch to Kane so finding another .5 won't be difficult. Anyways how can you completely ignore the current champions' top scorer who plays against hull?

      1. Silva’s Left Nut

I'm not ignoring Vardy. I should've clarified. I have Vardy. I think he will perform better than Zlatan. But in the off-chance that Ibra outperforms him and keeps doing so, I have 1.5m backup cash for the upgrade

'His high ownership makes it too big of a risk not to account for' If you are trying to beat everybody then getting the same players as everybody else regardless of how you think they will do doesn't make sense to me.

the vast majority of fpl managers are not trying to 'beat everybody else'. They are simply in it to score as many points over the course of the season as they can. So getting someone that everyone else has isn't necessarily bad if they're getting points. Again I'm not saying get Zlatan. I don't have him, and getting him based on ownership alone would be silly. I'm just suggesting that it's better to have backup cash to be able to get him quickly back in the squad if needed.

    Who's best choice?
Drinkwater - Guaranteed 90 & gets quite a lot of assists playing balls through to Vardy.
Ramirez - Not as nailed but likely to play no 10 & on set pieces
Fischer - unknown quantity could be awful, could be on the bench or could be magic
Albrighton - consistent but may now have competition from Gray
Snodgrass - on all set pieces and seems to have a goal in him but playing for worst team in PL
Zaha - potentially explosive but hasn't shown it yet in PL
Feghouli - like Fischer another unknown quantity

Thanks for your help in advance guys 😉

Would your prefer over Redmond/ Townsend?

          Nope.

          Not a fan of Townsend.

Buti have 2 low mid spots...current Townsend Redmond...you think Ramirez better choice/nailed...as is only 5.5? I could upgrade dfence

For me Drinkie and Ramirez are better value than many of the 6,6.5 and 7 midfielders, so the pair are a great 4th/5th MID combo.

From what I've heard Ramirez seems to be nailed. He makes my team.

Ramirez is completely nailed. He's the smartest and safest choice.

Thing is, are Boro likely to score many? They look like a pretty defensive unit to me. I think Feghouli is more likely to bag more assists.

There are just so many attacking options there, and the early fixtures are tricky. And he's not nailed.

Morning all, how's everyone getting on?

Think I'm done, I love my side just can't settle on the 5.5 mid.

    How do you think

    A) Bournemouth will do against United

    B) Palace against West Bromwich

    C) West Ham against Chelsea

    D) Boro against Stoke?

Narrowed it down to one from each of those (Grade, Puncheon, Ferghouli, Ramirez) but can't decide.

Would any of you get one in with next week in mind (with a harder fixture this week) and take it on the chin this week?

      A) 3-1 Lose
      B) 1-1
      C) 3-2 Win
      D) 2-1 Win

Gradel, do you need to play him this week?

Gradel is the one I want, I guess I could play Friend as he's first sub and play 4 at the back.

I have Gradel benched and Friend starting. Boro are $2.40 for the clean sheet.

That's not a bad shout as I fancy them against West Ham next week.

For a bit of context I'm looking at

        Schmeichel
        Fuchs / Stones / Valencia
        Hazard / Mahrez / Redmond / 5.5
        Aguero / Zlatan / Gray

        Jacu / Friend / Amat / Capoue

So I'm 100% happy with 10 starters, just that one pesky 5.5 slot I can't settle on, I guess I could just punt on a good player rather than trying to find one with a good fixture.

Gradel but when your in that price bracket your shooting in the dark until there is current form to work with. Go with your gut unless you want someone to blame.

Hey guys, really can't decide between Shaw and Valencia. Anyone thinks Valencia is not nailed?

Both nailed, but Darmian is still lurking

Valencia in my opinion. He assisted both of Ibrahimovic's goals and his only threat is Darmian who I can't see taking his place any time soon

Good morning everyone! I'd really appreciate some feedback on this team, only my second year doing this!

    Valdes / Foster

    Soaré / Baines / Friend / Fernandez / Masuaku

    Hazard / Firmino / Lamela / Redmond / Fletcher

    Aguero / Ibra / Gray

Sort out ur defence. Go for Valencia, williams, Amat, Friend and Stones as the back line

The fixtures for that defence are:

        GW1: WBA/STO/bur

        GW2: wba/HUL/BOU

        GW3: BOU/wba/STO

        GW4: mid/CRY/WAT

        GW5: STK/MID/wba

I'm planning to WC after GW3, but if I change my mind I still have a few more weeks of good fixtures. What defence would you replace it with?
