Dugout Discussion – Sunderland vs Middlesbrough

Gameweek 2 rolls into Sunday with a lunchtime Wear-Tees derby clash.

Sunderland play host to a Middlesbrough side that earned a draw in their opening home encounter with Stoke City on day one. David Moyes’ side also emerged with some credit from their first fixture, losing out to Man City by a narrow 2-1 margin having equalised via a Jermain Defoe goal.

Defoe will once again carry the goal scoring burden for the Black Cats today, who are without Fabio Borini due to a toe injury. Moyes gives home debuts to Donald Love, Paddy McNair and Adnan Januzaj, while Papy Djilobodji earns his full debut at the back.

Aitor Karanka begins to rotate his Boro troops by bringing in Cristhian Stuani for Albert Adomah. Victor Valdes misses out with a training ground knock, opening the way for Brad Guzan to earn his debut in goal.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    A) Firmino > Barkley - seemingly on form, important part of Everton, great run of fixtures coming up, Lukaku back (he loves playing with Lukaku), surely a popular pick this week.

    B) Firmino > Tadic - played well against united, good stats, "explosion imminent", 3 decent attacking fixtures including Sunderland up next (they were so bad at the back today). But already have Redmond.

      I don't think Arsenal away is a good attacking fixture with Kosc back now. We were vulnerable against a Klopp side with Chambers at CB but think it will be a bit tighter now.

      Barkley has better fixtures for the medium term, great form and already rising. He is the one I'd be going.

    How can I improve this squad? I feel I need Ibra but the starting team looks good. Also I reckon Vardy/Mayrez will do well against Swansea, so who to take out to get Ibra in? I have 2fts. Or should I just leave alone? 0 in the bank. Thanks in advance!

        I'd hedge bets - keep mahrez, sell vardy and eriksen for ibra and cheaper mid.

              Not sure, have same dilemma in finding replacement for deulofeu @ 6.5m. I'll probably punt on Bojan but couldn't really recommend it. Lots of people here keen on Mirallas/Bolasie, although they're at risk of rotation. Others - Snodgrass, Wanyama, Townsend?

                Currently Feghouli is still injured and Fischer hasn't played a single match yet, so they are most likely going.

          I also like the look of Sterling! I'm tempted to do Hazard/Vardy to Sterling/Ibra but I'm worried Hazard will do well against Burnley at home. How did he play against Watford?

        Tadic - Redmond
        Mahrez - Firmino
        Vardy - Ibra

        Which would leave me with:
        Foster, Jaku
        Williams, Stones, Shaw, Amat, Friend
        Hazard, Firmino, Townsend, Redmond, Capoue
        Ibra, Kun, Negrado.

        Would leave £0.7m ITB. Worth a WC or 8pt hit? I'mleaning towards leaving it for another week and giving the Leicester players another shot. Worried i'll miss out on Ibra murdering Hull though...

        Kun, Ibra, Negrado.

        WC still active so advice/thoughts appreciated.

        Funny start to to the season, at least 2 must haves emerging up front but no clear source of points yet for midfield or defence?

        Capoue the only Mid to score both games and I bench him both times. Who are the popular midfield options everyone is looking towards now, Barkley?

        Thinking maybe just Alli -> Barkley as Ali didn't start and Barkley is playing well and has good fixtures?

        Please could anyone advise on what to do this upcoming GW. I have 2 FTs and prepared in advance so my starting lineup I can't see anyone I would transfer out as all fixtures are decent. I just don't want to lose the FT but is it worth it to do so on this occasion? Thanks.
