Michail Antonio shifts forward and provides the decisive finish as West Ham celebrate their London Stadium bow with a hard-fought victory. Earlier in the day, Alvaro Negredo’s qualtiy and Cristhian Stuani’s finishing combined to earn Middlesbrough three points on Wearside. Here’s the Stock Check after Sunday’s matches…

On the Rise

Alvaro Negredo
A goal in Gameweek 1, followed by two classy assists today. Negredo appears to be reveling in his lone striker role for Middlesbrough and his intelligence and awareness looks very effective in combination with the likes of Gaston Ramirez and Stewart Downing as creators. Negredo sits third in the FPL rankings – only Sergio Aguero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have started stronger. Further transfer traffic is heading his way.

Cristhian Stuani
It’s a long shot but we have to mention the Uruguayan following his two goals. Brought in to replace Albert Adomah as part of Aitor Karanka expected rotation on the flanks, he reacted by seizing his opportunity in style. It remains to be seen if Stuani can retain a starting role – even as a 4.9 forward, his appeal would seem limited.

Patrick van Aanholt
More goals and more attempts than any other defender last season, the flying Dutchman has already opened his account for 2016/17. While David Moyes’ defence ha been unsettled by injury and departures, Van Aanholt still provides a tempting proposition given his attacking prowess and Sunderland’s fixtures. The Black Cats welcome Everton, Palace and West Brom to Wearside over the next five Gameweeks.

Michail Antonio
Has Eden Hazard done Fantasy managers a huge favour? After enduring a torrid evening at the hands of the Belgian at Stamford Bridge last Monday, Antonio was shifted onto the flank for today’s home clash with Bournemouth. Considering the injury situation in attack, Slaven Bilic will surely now look to keep Antonio in an attacking role after the former Nottingham Forest man headed home the match-winner. If he can keep his place and that position beyond the Gameweek 3 trip to City, Antonio would certainly be back on our radar as a true alternative to Dimitri Payet.

James Collins
A goal against Chelsea, followed up by a solid rearguard display against the Cherries, looks to have kept the Welshman ahead of Angelo Ogbonna in the West Ham defence. At 4.5, he’s got some very decent upcoming fixtures after next week’s trip to City has passed. We’re currently favouring Winston Reid for his security of starts but Collins may just usurp him heading into that run of matches.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Slaven Bilic has played down the severity of the Frenchman’s injury but, with a trip to City up next, Payet’s 25% owners aren’t hanging about. Over 36,000 have parted company already this week, more than any midfielder – with the international break to follow Gameweek 3, a failure to feature at the Etihad could see the exodus snowball.

Andy Carroll
With Andre Ayew ruled out for months, the Hammers target man seemed nailed on up front for the foreseeable future. Yet again, though, Carroll faces a spell on the sidelines after succumbing to a knee injury – given his treatment room history, we should have known that price of 6.5 was too good to be true.

Callum Wilson
The Cherries striker looked a shadow of the player that scored a hat-trick away to the Hammers just 12 months ago. Hauled off for the second match in succession, Wilson has managed just two attempts on goal in the first couple of Gameweeks. Eddie Howe’s side will struggle if they fail to get him firing.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

@ Toresmagic. When does Sportsdeck typically update. Very interested to see my OR there after a shoddy FPL week

Yes it did. Would you have taken it if you had?

I will get Bellerins 12 off the bench giving me 146 this week and I was 115 OR before the week started. That has to be a decent rise surely?

If you played DDG, Bailley & DDG that would be 39 points. You would drop Ramirez, Firmino and Terry 11 points so a boost of 28 points. You lost by 28 points so we would have tied!

Although I should have played my reserve keeper....

Make sure you use 2 transfers this GW. Prices go crazy after GW3 based on last 3 game performance.

High cheap scorers. Capoue, Snodgrass, Collins and Negredo on quick viewing. Ben Mee and Heaton will go up a bit as very cheap. You can sell them for a few million more after GW4 unless they are still scoring well. No sell on fee in this game.

Price changes happen every GW as long as the player played. Players like Vardy and Kane may drop up to 2m with a 3rd fail.

                        EMERGENCY PLAYER SCORING

Substitutes will replace any non-starting player in matching positions only.
If you have 2 or 3 available substitutes in a particular position, the lowest scoring will be used (NB: only substitutes that score greater than 0 are used to replace the score of a non-playing player in your team). A maximum of one player will be used as emergency per position.
If you have a 0 scoring player in a certain position and don't have a substitute in that position, you'll not score any points for that player..
Players who actually play in a match AND score a 0 for any reason, will NOT be replaced by an emergency. Their 0 score will also have an effect on their value, being recorded as having played a game.

Bertrand didn't play at all though and Bellerin did. He was my only defensive sub who wasn't playing.

How does this Price rise system work?

I want Ibra in for Vardy however Vardy has gone down .1, Ibra has gone up .1

I also have Negredo who has gone up in price and also Hazard however it is showing me 1.7 short of switching Vardy to Ibra. I'm a bit confused

negredo has risen .2 so I should get .1 for him. Vardy has gone down .1 so wouldn't this cancel each other out and my squad value would remain 100 mil?

Firmino needs to come out for someone 6.8 or lower in order for you to fund the Ibrahimovic transfer.

Yes, at least to start with, but I don't rate him that much as a player to be honest, and I can see him getting rotated come October/November, as Mirallas/Deulofeu will still need pitch time in order for Koeman to keep a happy squad.

    1. Gray
    2. Rondon
    3. Any other one
    4. Save transfer and bench Carroll and play Stones vs Wham. But still he could fall in price
Leaning on towards Rondon. Could be a good differential

For all those people that aren't too happy with their ranking at the moment, just remember that a fair few casuals have already used their bench boost and/or triple captain; so you are effectively ranked a bit higher than it truly shows right now. 🙂

Apparently 6.2 per cent have played a chip already. It appears people are being more reserved with their chips than last year.

      • 11 Years

      Very true.

Unfortunately with these new chips, paying too much attention to your rank is fairly much pointless until later in the season when any possible DGW's are completed and most chips are used.

Last season my rank jumped nearly 600,000 places in the last few gws after all chips were played.

This gw is a perfect example. I scored 71 points which isn't bad yet I dropped 10k places in the OR.

This early in the season is not the time to panic transfer based on OR movements. 😉

        • 16 Years

        Exactly.

I'm saving both the bench boost and the triple captain for double gameweeks in order to maximise their value.

I probably won't bother using the other one as it's almost pointless. I hope they change that all-out-attack chip next year.

        1. devils advocate
          • 11 Years

All out attack chip is really only useful at some point if you have injury concerns in defense and don't want to use a transfer. You can instead play 2 at the back for that gw if the injuries are short term. Also good regarding a gw where benched mid or striker has better fixture than 3 of your defenders.

Much harder for this chip to pay off so definitely worth less than the other 2 chips, but could work if the punt works out.

Would work better in a DGW obviously, but it would be foolish to use this chip in a double when the other chips have a higher points ceiling.

          1. DeathAngel
            • 16 Years
            9 years, 7 months ago

The problem with the all-out-attack chip is that for it to become effective, it requires you to have been inattentive with your defence for a while in the first place, (to have built up three defensive injuries), and then you just use your chip to reverse that failing somewhat. If you look after your team properly, there will rarely ever be a time where it helps you that much.

            1. devils advocate
              • 11 Years

              Yes and no.

You can't predict injuries, no matter how well you manage your team.

It is possible to get hit with bad luck and for 2-3 of your defenders to get injured at one time. Maybe not common but definitely possible as I saw it happen to someone else last season.

This person had a defender get a slight injury in the gw prior to an international break and another 2 defenders then picked up knocks whilst on international duty.

All three injuries were minor so the defenders could possibly play that following gw or at the least be ready for the following gw so he didn't want to burn a transfer if they were going to be back soon.

In this instance rather than play one defender and hope he plays but risk a non playing starter he played the chip to ensure 11 sarters were guaranteed that gw and he had another week to assess if the injured players would be back for the following gw.

This was good management rather than bad management as you said. The chip can be handy for these unexpected instances.

all out attack only works well as a safety net for defender injuries or saving a crucial defender transfer one extra week. it's very unlikely to have a front 8 strong enough to (probably) outscore your 3rd, 4th, and 5th defenders while maintaining any kind of reasonable balance for other weeks

            I agree.

I wish they just changed it to something like ''your vice-captain scores double too'' or similar. That would then be a lot more useful and fun to use.

I had an idea for a better chip.

A chip that gives you a guaranteed highest scoring player for that particular gw you use it. So basically you don't actually pick a captain for that gw, but which ever player on your team scores the most points automatically becomes your captain for that gw. What you think?

Another chip idea is the captain double chance gamble chip. This one is more fun cause it has more risk. The idea is that after your captain has played in a gw, regardless of what score he got, you can choose to change your captain during that gw for any other player that hasn't played yet, but the decision is final and irreversible.

For example, it's gw3 and I captained Ibra who played on Saturday and scored 9pts giving me 18 captain points.

Aguero is due to play on Sunday and I think he will outscore Ibra, so I chose to gamble my current captain points and play the chip to swap my captain to Aguero. Aguero plays and scores 2pts so I am now stuck with only 4pts for my captain, lol. Of course it could work in the opposite way which would be better. 😉

Are we all guilty of ignoring Tadic for Redmond? He's top of the creativity index for two gameweeks running, watched the game vs united and he had a couple good chances. I think he might well explode against Sunderland

Yes he may explode all over our faces. But if we can wipe his remains off with the shirt of Zlatan after he has scored a hat trick it will probably be worth it.

It will be tough for Tadic to get tonnes of points without Redmond also doing stuff, and vice-versa.

They'll either both be great options this year, or both be bad options if Southampton flop.

However Redmond does have to watch out for an Austin/Long combo being used at some point and so he could lose his place if he doesn't perform. Tadic is nailed on regardless imo.

Good options can blank three times in a row. If Saints win then he could still be a decent prospect.

If Southampton lose to Sunderland, I would be more worried as that could indicate that Southampton players in general are all poor value this year, (if Saints lose lots of matches).

    3. devils advocate
      • 11 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

      Both are very good options.

I went with Redmond because he's cheaper, and I figured that if Tadic is going to be creating chances there's a good chance those chances are going to be created for his main striker Redmond. I think the reverse could be true also.

Both will do well this season, and you pay that bit more for Tadic because he hogs all set pieces.

      1. DeathAngel
        • 16 Years
        9 years, 7 months ago

And he's more nailed on. Both Redmond and Long have to watch out for Austin who is waiting in the wings.

        1. devils advocate
          • 11 Years

I personally think Redmond is nailed on but that's just my opinion. Much better player than both Long and Austin and much more well rounded. I think the other two rotate around Redmond with Redmond only at risk of being dropped due to poor form, but that applies to all players.

          1. DeathAngel
            • 16 Years

I seem to recall Redmond not always starting for Norwich even when he was fit, (he was subbed on from the bench quite often). This was a poor Norwich side too.

Also, he is playing up-front rather than in midfield, so he is unproven in that position somewhat.

I hope he works out and becomes a good option, but it's far from guaranteed imo.

            1. devils advocate
              • 11 Years
              9 years, 7 months ago

You're correct, and I'm not saying you could be right, however did you ever think that Norwich side were poor and got relegated because the manager didn't play Redmond enough? His attacking returns were impressive considering the limited minutes.

As you said he's now playing a new position with a new manager and new system so very hard to use any past info to predict future outcomes.

What we do know is he has always had an end product, is now playing closer to goal, is highly rated by his new manager, and has thus far been the only striker who hasn't been rotated.

Based on that evidence I'm confident he's fairly nailed on but anything can happen in this crazy game. 😉

Tadic is a season keeper for me. I don't want to get burned taking him out and then trying to get him back in. Playing at the top of the diamond, being on set pieces, and pretty much guaranteed all starts, I don't see why he won't put up about 10 goals and 12 assists. So I'll just ride it out and wait for the returns to come...and they will.

Like coutinho his stats are misleading as many of his shots are low percentage with better opportunities to score available through a pass. But yes if you buy enough raffle tickets you will win something every now and again.

Agreed they're low percentage shots but he's well capable. But his crosses, attempted assists and moreover his penalty area actions are far far better than anyone else in his price range.
These will translate to points at some point, was just asking for opinion as to whether people feel he's a sound option now or after he breaks through and translates the stats to points.

If you don't have Remond I'd make the move. Otherwise wait and see what options show form in that bracket. I think you've got another week on Del, but if he doesn't start this game he'll drop for sure.

    Hello amigos!

2 quick questions, I have 2 FT and a few players I'm thinking to replace, my MDs and FWDs as follow:
    Alli, Capoue, Mahrez, Redmond, Payet
    Agüero, Vardy and Long.

First Q: Should I get rid of A)Vardy and Long or B)Vardy/Long Payet?
Second Q: Should I get A) IbraCadabra, Negredo and Lallana for a -4 or B)IbraCadabra and Barkley?

    Thanks for your help guys!

Hey its a game of calculated risks. Over 38 gameweeks the smart risks will pay off.

      Probably Vardy.
Or both if you need the funds.

Still have Oscar wasting space on my team. Just can't justify transferring him out when he has two nice fixtures and there are bigger problems on my team. Strangely enough Oscar is not very close to dropping in value.

Yeah, I know. But can't justify spending 4 points to get him out.

You may not want to, but using the wildcard could be a great way to get your team together. If not you are going to be playing catch up the whole season.

Nah, I've had a decent start through the first two gws.
A wc needs to be more than a -4.

        Entirely possible!

    A. Give Wilson one more chance

    B. Take a -4 to get negredo or benteke
