We draw the curtain on Gameweek 2 in suitable fashion, by collecting our thoughts on the player, the team and the key talking point.

The Player

There really is no contest.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has already taken the Premier League by storm, muscling his way past shell-shocked centre backs and into our Fantasy line-ups.

Hands up, I was initially fooled by his languid style and ageing legs. I doubted he could immediately click in a Manchester United side that almost had to learn how to attack with purpose again after Louis van Gaal’s laboured tenancy.

But Zlatan has let the goals do the talking, which is just fine when you have Paul Pogba doing the rest.

As I’ve already mentioned on these pages, it is Pogba’s performance and the way in which he transformed the United machine that convinced me to shed my doubts on the Swede.

It’s difficult to see United failing to control and dominate the majority of teams with Pogba stationed in the double pivot. His energy will surely be the spark to drive United forward and, in doing so, ensure that Ibrahimovic is readily supplied with opportunities in the box.

He’s already proven just how deadly he can be with service and with spot-kicks now thought to be assured, Ibrahimovic is just too intoxicating to ignore.

The Team

Having given Hull City their moment in the sun in Gameweek 1, Mike Phelan’s side soaked it up, offering up another nomination a week later after an impressive win at Swansea City.

But instead we will turn to another promoted side.

Burnley battled against improbable odds to conjure a victory against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, offering us another reminder that, early in the season, there is often reliable value amongst the new arrivals from the Championship.

Sean Dyche’s side have been here before; they could, and perhaps should have survived in 2014/15.

The Clarets boss now knows exactly how to approach games like the Liverpool encounter: shelve ambition, strangle the centre of the pitch and break with speed and purpose.

It was a policy employed even in the Championship at times, as Dyche exploited Sam Vokes’ physicality alongside the pace and clinical finishing of Andre Gray.

Both opened their accounts on Saturday. Both will look to reach double figures and provide strong FPL value.

Then, in goal, there is Tom Heaton.

Already ranked as the top keeper, the Burnley skipper looks to be a gift. A goalkeeper who will churn out regular save points, behind ten players who, at times, will be drilled to contain opponents in order to earn a result at all costs.

The Talking Point

We have to return to Ibrahimovic.

There’s no doubt we have to acknowledge the excitement he has already brought to our season but, at the same time, we should also take time to consider how, together with Sergio Aguero, he’s already forced our hand.

It seems we have little choice but to plump for the Manchester pairing in our attacks.

In doing so, we’re taking debilitating chunks out of our budget and restricting, if not killing, our ability to react when midfield heavy-hitters start delivering.

Should Alexis Sanchez, Kevin de Bruyne and Dimitri Payet hit the heights again, many of us will be hamstrung and unable to exploit their form.

That is, unless we dare to rid ourselves of Ibrahimovic or Aguero. That seems unlikely.

Those chasing gaps, or even those who refuse to bend to the template attack, at least have a hope on the horizon. The heavy-hitting midfielders will eventually become effective differentials.

Two Gameweeks down and it’s difficult to see any asset competing with the output of Aguero and Ibrahimovic. Right now our only worry is deciding which of the two strikers earns the armband.

It’s up to the likes of Sanchez, De Bruyne and Payet to see if they can burden us with any further concerns.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I don't think I've ever played a defender over a midfielder if both are healthy and it isn't a DGW.

      I vote Snod 🙂

Depends if you have any united defenders?

If the answer is yes then bench snoddy.

Jealous people will say I'm bragging, but so you know I take my own advice, I benched Redmond last gw for the same reason.

I don't think Stones is much better mind you, but I think city have a better chance of a CS at home than United do of conceding against Hull.

Thoughts on these transfers? 0 ITB, 2FT

    Foster, Heaton
    Stones, Valencia, Morgan, Friend, Evans
    Mahrez, Eriksen, Firmino, Redmond, Capoue
    Aguero, Vardy, Carroll

    Vardy > Ibra
    Mahrez > Barkley

Deal with Carroll next week. Worried about getting rid of two LEI before Swansea, thoughts?

If you bought Ibra after deadline, you are 0.2m more now.

If you bought Barkley, he will earn another rise soon too.

Can't be sure where, or if, he will play. Wenger seems to prefer two more defensive-minded players in the pivot - eg. two of Xhaka, Coquelin and Elneny. Ozil is back and automatically gets the number 10 role. Cazorla could play wide given the ineffective wingers at Arsenal but he is not as effective out there and hasn't played that role in over a year now. It looks to me that - as good as he is - like he might become an impact sub or only play against lower-table sides.

      1. Walker is good, but maybe he will get some rotation with Trippier as Davies shaking Rose`s position.

      2. Last season, Spurs always concede 1 goal. Just 13 clean sheet compare to Arsenal around 18 clean sheet, if Im not mistaken.

Honestly, Walker really tempting too with his low price compare to Alder & Rose.

I think Shaw is better than Valencia when Pog is back. The heat prove it. Valencia is awesome in pre reason, but when Pogba is on the pitch, Shaw become more forward than Valencia as Pogba play more to the left side. When the left side attack, so who plays on the right must stay slight deeper.

Only use 1, save 1 for Int'l break

Gray to Rondon if worried about ban... but probably not best use of FT
    or
Stones to Williams - Man City not looking likely of CS, Everton nice fixtures
    or
Kone to Souare - Kone injured, unsettled and on way to Everton (perhaps)

I have same D but had other more pressing FTs in front 8

Hey guys, need some advise here. Had 2 FTs, used one earlier this week for Cech => Heaton giving me 1.0 ITB. The initially idea was to save the other FT and give Delf one more week before shipping him out.

However, with the whole Gray issue, I'm wondering if I should switch him to Negredo, I'll lose out on a bit, but it's still affordable.

    Stick or twist?

    Thanks!

The least proven of those six I would argue is Redmond. Four of the others can be a bit up and down, and one should be a steady accumulator of reasonable points for his price bracket.

So with news that Valdes is out for two more games I got to ship him for my 1 FT ? Other keeper is Jaku and all that is left in the 4.5 category that I like is Heaton or Hennessey 0 Itb.
Heaton nailed but don't like this weeks fixtures. Hennessey surely not nailed with the other keepers they have at palace?

I think you answered your question, Heaton is really the only option (despite fixtures).

But has Hennesey done anything to be dropped. Not really. But I do need to play it safe here. No point making a transfer and still being stuck with only Jaku playing. Thanks what you say makes sense.

Hows thid team looking for Gw 3. Already took a hit ( - 4)
    Heaton
    Mcauley, Walker, Stones, Valencia
    Tadic, Firmino, Hazard
    Rondon, Ibra, Augero
    Subs: Jackpovic, Ramirez, Amat, Watson
Does it look okay for Gw 3 ?

A Gray owner here. With his charge and suspension seem inevitable, do you gents think it will affect his game? He played really well against Liverpool but I am not sure if he is in the right state of mind? Stamford bridge is a tough place to get a goal anyways so should I play Capoue instead of him?

Tempted to jump on the Benteke wagon but I am still worried about his form. Should I take a -4 and get Negredo instead?

        Yeah that's where I'm at.

I expect Deu to play ~20 minutes and pull in 1 point, meaning any sort of return from Bolasie and the hit is covered. Also frees up .5 which is an added bonus.

      1. I think everyone must get Aguero. His point per game was the highest last season. 6.1. The second comes Vardy at 5.9 but Vardy now looks faded. So , obviously he should be prime for the armband choice alongside King Zlatan.

      2. Try pick attacking midfielder, not defensive midfielder like Wanyama, Dier, Kente etc.

      Just my two cents .

I am struggling to move my Feghouli, can anyone give me some advice on the possible transfers?

3m in the bank, no FT

    1) Bolasie
    2) Barkley
    3) Snodgrass (a bit too late maybe?)
    4) Ramirez
    5) Keep the 4 points and wait after International break

His price may drop again. I also have him and thinking to remove him soon before his value drops again.

In your case, I would suggest you to have Barkley in. His performance has been brilliant. Yesterday, he scored a goal in a 4-0 win against Yeovil Town. His fixtures is also quite good.

If 5 doesn't leave you a player short for next week and if you are prepared to ride out another potential proce drop Feghouli then 5 is probably the sensible option.

If he were in my team though I would have shifted him as I am aggressive in the market and hate losing TV early on. But that approach isn't to everyone's taste.

        Thanks for replying!

TV is also my main concern and that's why I no longer want to ride out on Feghouli, compared to my previous decision.

However on the TV side of view, my main concern is Barkley v. Bolasie. I know that Barkley is probably the better performer but I am worried that I am riding on the late stage of a influx wave and his price may plateau out. While Bolasie seems like he will get playing time and also a potential price rise as season goes on.

        Thoughts?

Everton have 5 nice fixtures coming up. If Barkley can keep scoring points in those games his price could go up quite a bit further. Bolasie is a more budget friendly option if money is tight or you feel you can use the cash more effectively elsewhere.
