We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Yay or Nay for this 8 pointer. Normally against such things, but I'm quite tempted!

Santi, Hazard, Benteke & Ibra -> Townsend, Firmino, Lukaku & Aguero

    Sanchez, Haz, Antonio, Santi, Capoue
    Ibra, Benteke, Defoe

    Bank 0.0m, 2FT

        Probably right...

        GW6: Haz & Ibra -> Firmino & Aguero
GW7: Benteke -> Lukaku (1.3m to be funded elsewhere (perhaps not via Santi as he has a run of bur/SWA/MID from 7-9). Maybe a defensive downgrade instead (Baines/Valencia)

        Defence is

        Cech, Pickford
        Baines, Valencia, Collins, Kone, Amat

Yeah I am. But I think Stoke will be focusing on defending for a while now so think they will setup to be hard to beat. Also, MUN look poor as well. That being said, Ibra could do some serious damage!

You have to couple that with Aguero being away at Spurs that week too. Aguero is obviously captain material whatever game he has, but that could burn you big time.

I think patience is the order of the day, you can't have them all. Wouldn't advise anything more than a -4. But you know what you're doing, go with the gut!

You will end up needing that extra 0.6 at some point(as this season has proved so far)and firmino will match mane's points if not better it, as long as u have a Liverpool cover u should be fine.

If I had the 0.6 extra would definitely go for Mane. No scientific or stats evidence to hand, but when watching just looks more explosive and likely to be involved in a counter attack. History of prolific performances (i.e. fastest FPL hat trick).

But whether he is worth that 0.6 more that Firmino who is also a very good player, is a different question.

Originally I was going for Stoke - Watford - Swansea defence but then Stoke were Stoke....considered putting Sunderland in there as they rotate well too but I want Pickford for cheapness. Not sure I fancy a Sunderland double up...

    KDB Hazard Firmino Antonio Capoue
    Aguero Costa

    Jakupovic Diomande Amat Love

    0.5 itb

Anything else worth a hit long term?

Looking at Stones out to a 4.5 and Hazard to Sanchez or Hazard out to Sterling/Cazorla and beefing up the defence. Cheers

Guys what the views on Ibra to Aguero?

I'm wondering that myself. A bit scared about his huge ownership. One goal+bonus and it will affect us big time...

I am doing it, selling Ibra a risk with his fixtures and huge ownership but can't have them all and Aguero is looking like an essential.

Not loosing Ibra for his next 2 home games. Not like he hasn't blanked and he could have easily had 2 goals yesterday. But I'm getting Kun along with him.

      I've done it.

Zlatan is a class act but with Fellaini and Rooney supplying him chances I am confident he won't score heavily more than the likes of Costa and Lukaku

Ibra with two home games in the next two weeks including Stoke.

      After that it's Liverpool away.

      So maybe hold for now.

How come people are so impatient? Why not wait, why bring Aguero in right away? Anything can happen..

Because with Aguero, KDB, Sterling etc all rising like mad the team I wanted would have been .5 dearer nearer the deadline

I also have to do it today. Just because the masses are doing it. I wouldn't rush It if I had the choice.

Mane & Firmino will probably score more points in the long run.

Kosceilney (3H games in next 4) a better choice than Walker (3A games in next 4) or better off using cash elsewhere

Get Kos, he's worth it and he has amazing fixtures

Spurs got the best defence in the league and Walker has got more BPS and attacking output

    How's it looking?
    Foster Heaton

    RMWCT

    Jaku (Pickford)
    Baines, Holebas, Collins (Smith, Amat)
    Sanchez, Sterling, Firmino, Antonio (Capoue)
    Aguero, Lukaku, Benteke

I know two 4.0 keepers is an issue, but just not sure where to find that 0.5 extra. Cheers

Get rid of Collins in a heartbeat. I'm stuck with him, but if you're on a WC he has to go.
