We’ve now launched our latest captain poll to canvas your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 6.

You can find the poll in the middle column of the homepage or at the bottom of the same page on mobile.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

With 17 players earning double-digit Fantasy Premier League points hauls in Gameweek 5 there is already an abundance of choice for the captaincy.

That selection gets even tougher this Gameweek when early season armband favourite Sergio Aguero (12.9) returns from a three-match suspension to travel to Swansea. With three goals in as many Premier League games and Manchester City looking unstoppable as an attacking force, the Argentine is nailed on to be among the poll favourites.

For the 76% of FPL managers without Aguero his team-mates, Raheem Sterling (8.4) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.7), offer strong alternative options. The midfield duo have five goals and seven assists between them this season.

One of Gameweek 5’s double-figure FPL wonders, Romelu Lukaku (9.3), could even snatch a lead over Aguero, on the back of four goals in the last two games. The Belgian travels to a Bournemouth side that has conceded the most “big chances” in so far. Lukaku, who has the most shots on target over the last two matches, has been drafted in by 66,660 FPL managers since Saturday.

Liverpool’s midfield offers a raft of viable captaincy candidates this week.

Robert Firmino (8.4), Sadio Mane (9.0) and Philippe Coutinho (8.1), all have two goals and an assist each already and host a Hull City side that tops the goal attempts conceded both in and out of the box tables. Of that trio, Coutinho is the most owned in FPL, with 27.9 managers showing faith in him.

For those looking to take a risk a side in form, Watford offers a series of candidates ahead of their visit to Burnley: they’ve claimed just one clean sheet this season.

Etienne Capoue (4.9), the surprise leading FPL points scorer and top owned midfielder, has four goals already and will surely be promoted from the bench to many Fantasy managers’ first XI this Gameweek.

In attack, Troy Deeney (6.9)’s penalty-taking prowess could be tempting as could Odion Ighalo (7.3)’s resurgent form. The Nigerian has fired off more goal attempts than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez over the last two Gameweeks.

A special mention also goes to last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahomovic (11.9), who has shed more than 51,000 FPL managers this week following Manchester United’s lacklustre display against Watford.

The big Swede, who has the most goal attempts of any striker over the last two Gameweeks, will be hoping to add to his four goals and assist  this term when champions Leicester City drop in on Old Trafford.

The only player to match Ibrahimovic’s goal attempt tally over the last two Gameweeks is Michail Antonio (7.3), who looks another strong armband candidate when Southampton visit the Olympic Stadium on Sunday.

Antonio’s 14% owned West Ham team-mate Dimitri Payet (9.4) is another to consider, after notching an impressive four assists in the last two Gameweeks.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

With a midfield of capoue, sanchez, antonio, firmino, sterling and kun, lukaku up front there is no way in hell ya can leave one on the bench with upcoming fixtures for any of them. Downgrade deeney and bench him and upgrade the defence. Anyone considering 352 for 5 gws???

Having kun and ibra is not that necessary IMO. Pick one and fund the midfield and remember that a goal and an assist for a midfielder is the same as 2 goals for a striker. Currently I don't have kun but I can swap for ibra at anytime no matter the price drop/rise

When Kun gets a hatty this week and Ibra gets his next week you'll be wondering why you didn't just have both. 😉

We're not in la liga where hat-tricks are dished out every week.

Kun is well capable of scoring a hatrick away from home, so rotators could easily get badly burned. Add into that the fact that City have form and United don't, and that Ibra isn't as explosive as Kun, and I think that if there's good investment options elsewhere, there's an excellent justification to go with just one of the two. Kun

Agreed. Costa, Lukaku, Aguero is my front line that enables premium mids as well. As much as Ibra looks essential with returns every week, KDB is currently 5 points ahead in comparison.

I'm thinking of doubling down on Everton defence, at least for the next 4 GWs whilst the going is good. Already have Coleman and thinking of drafting in one of Williams/Jags

What's the general rule of thumb or risks on this?

Over Coutinho is correct but over Firmino is tough as it depends what you do with the cash and whether you prefer more consistent or explosive points.

You'll always rue over the opportunity cost. They'll all have their fair share of points.

Firmino & Mané edge Coutinho IMO in terms of FPL returns. Very little b/w firm and Mané.

I wouldn't worry about having 2 cheap mids when there's such good options available, i would be more concerned with having only 1 penalty taker in that four, the fact all Antonio's goals have come from headers and that Capoue is currently operating with such accuracy.

Starting with Snodgrass and Chadli, in the current climate, seems pretty sound to me. But you'd expect to own 1 or 2 of Sanchez, Hazard and Kdb alongside

Hey guys in need of help and need to act quickly before price changes occur, my team is with 0.1 cash and 2 FT:
    Heaton, Pickford
    Valencia, Williams, McAuely, Evans, Amat
    Hazard, Ozil, Mane, Antonio, Capoue

Overall I am fairly happy with my side and coming 55k. I feel like the GK/DEF is OK to go with currently and that is not my priority. I am desperate to get Aguero back in and I have decided Benteke is the one to make way. To not do anything in a side which scored 4 is worrying along with Lukaku in form and Ibra having a high ownership and some good fixtures ahead. This means I need to make some big downgrades and have decided Ozil is the one to make way as I feel Hazard has been unlucky and people who have sold him will be regretting it soon. Ozil however has looked poor and I think downgrading to someone cheap like Fletcher at 4.4 could be the way to go. This means I could play Capoue as 4th mid or go 4-3-3 and leave Capoue on the bench (although I have done this every week and look what has happened!).

Doing these 2 trades means I am still short 0.2 in cash and would need to make a downgrade and cop my first hit for the season. Thinking Mane out for Firmino although I would prefer to own Mane as I feel he is more explosive and Firmino may not be 100% yet. I could also choose to downgrade McAuley or Valencia instead?

Sorry for long post but would appreciate thoughts on this plan and how to finish it off. Do you agree with it or not.

    Note- I will captain Aguero

Yeah I was tempted to do this and downgrade Ozil to someone like Carzola/Sterling/Firmino but feel it is too risky and would rather have a massive forward line.

        Thanks for reply

Hazard , Benteke to Snod, Kun --> rest of the money if needed can come from downgrading Ozil to Caz maybe ? Or Valencia to Holebas?

i kinna have the same problem

      cuurently
      sterling cazola hazard antonio bolasie
      ibra costa diamonde

have 2 FT with 0.5 in bank

      ibra to aguero
cant remove sterling as hes been explosive
hence cazola hazard --- sanchez capoue

can understand hazard exploding but gunners have much easy fixtures compared to chelsea

TBH Snodgrass has done ok and a good 4th mid option but he will not be consistently scoring points and only got points last game as their PK taker was off the field.

Their first 8 fixtures were so tough and hes still the 6th highest scoring mid 🙂 Better fixtures coming up too

liv CHE bou STO wat SOT sun WBA mid CPL

Dont get me wrong he will bring in points now and again and if I didn't drop Ibra I would have got him. Just prefer Sterling/Firmino.

    Yes, or No....

    Gray, Firmino, and Azplicueta out

Aguero, Antonio, and a 4.6m defender in

    -4 hit.

    Team is;

    Foster - Heaton
    Stones - Shaw - Friend - Amat
    Hazard - Bolasie - Redmond - Capoue
    Ibra - Lukaku

B for me which hurts as a United supporter. Until they click and Jose settles on a team I'd stay clear. Regardless of Ibras ownership.

Thinking Deeney in on a WC and transferring Rashford in for Stoke depending on whether he starts vs Leicester.

On WC, would you go with:

    A) Baines
    B) Walker

Baines. Rotation beckons for Kyle Walker.

Stoke fans? Will Pieters get back into the line up as LB, after Bruno Martins Indi was destroyed by Townsend?

why would you consider a Stoke defender at all right now, under any circumstances?

wait until Butland is back and playing at least . . . they are a mess.

    Considering using my wildcard..
What do you think about this team guys?

    de Gea? / Jakupovic

    Stones / McAuley / Bellerin / Coleman / Amat?
    Sterling / Capoue / Coutinho / Antonio / Barry?
    Ibrahimovic / Aguero / Defoe

    Start discussion!

Stones - didnt start at weekend.
      McAuley - boring
      Bellerin - too much
Coutinho - not as many pts as Mane or Firminhs
Defoe - rubbish team, no pts

        Stones is cheap 5.0
McAuley is also cheap 4.6 (got him from the start...)
Bellerin, look at Arsenals upcoming game weeks after Chelsea.
I know Coutinho is in/out of Klopps first team.. but 8.1.. Liverpool got also some good game weeks ahead..
Defoe? Who should I go for then?
With Ibra and Aguero on top.. Then it is understandable that the midfield will be weaker. But Ibra out and Sanchez in?

Okay ladies and gents I can't be the only one who is seriously considering a move like this..

Ibra and Hazard to Kun and Sterling?

By doing this it means I can keep Costa who at the moment I believe will bag the same or more points than Ibra each week.

Only thing that scares me is Ibra's ownership...

Do you play safe or role the dice...?

I did these exact moves and confident it will pay off. Man U look lack lustre and Costa will score for fun tbh.

I done Ibra and Hazard to Aguero and Firmino for free. Already own Sterling.
