Monday morning sees the launch of our latest captain poll, canvassing your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 7.

Sergio Aguero (13.0) returned from a three-match suspension in style in Gameweek 6 with two goals and maximum Fantasy Premier League bonus points away to Swansea, to reward the 45% in our Captain Poll who backed him with the armband.

Even though the 37.2% owned Manchester City striker faces a far tougher test this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur, it would be no surprise to see him tussle at the top of this week’s poll as well.

The omens are certainly in his favour – Aguero has ten goals from nine appearances against Spurs.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) will likely be challenging Aguero at the top of the poll, after finishing a distance second to the Argentine in Gameweek 6.

A strong home fixture against a Stoke City side that has conceded 15 times this term, coupled with impressive underlying statistics, offer the big Swede a strong case for selection.

No other player has had more goal attempts than the 55.8% owned striker but interest may be tempered by his failure to register returns from the impressive 4-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

His cut price team-mate Marcus Rashford (6.9) did manage to score against the Foxes, taking his taking to three goals in four Gameweeks. With more than 71,000 new FPL owners so far this week, he is also expected to garner captaincy interest.

Romeu Lukaku (9.3) will also be in the frame. Like Ibrahimovic, the 19.4% owned striker also blanked in Gameweek 6 as Everton slipped to a reverse at Bournemouth. But his Gameweek 7 opponents Crystal Palace have yet to chalk up a clean sheet ahead of Friday’s trip to Goodison Park.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez has three double-digit FPL scores already this season and he looks an potentially effective differential captaincy option. With three goals and two assists in his last two road trips, it is little wonder that the Chilean has attracted more than 76,000 new managers ahead of the Gunners’ visit to Burnley this weekend.

The midfielders minefield at Liverpool is set to split the vote among their key contenders. Sadio Mane (9.0), the 30.3% owned Philippe Coutinho (8.2) and Adam Lallana (11.3) all offer solid options for the armband when they visit a Swansea City outfit that has conceded seven times across their three home fixtures this season. All three of this midfield trio scored at home to Hull City at the weekend to further boost their case.

Although their team-mate Roberto Firmino (8.4) failed to register any attacking returns against the Tigers, the 9.9% owned Brazilian’s strong underlying numbers, including topping Liverpool’s chance creation table this season, should give those keeping faith a degree of confidence. .

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Is this team g2g or anyone got suggestions? 1ft 0.5itb

    Foster / Pickford
Walker Lovren Williams / Holebas Amat
Sanchez Antonio Sterling Pereya / Snodgrass
    Aguero Lukaku Deeney

Worried about lack of liverpool ownership, might see how Antonio does this week and potentially swap him for Lallana

Mata is a great FPL pick when he plays. Unfortunately we know his manager doesn't exactly love him unconditionally...

I think he'll play this week but might be dropped at some point. Also think Antonio is fine as long as he isn't playing RB. If you're happy to risk both...

Yep, big risk. May not as team looks lovely this weekend in theory without that move and would be good to save for GW8 double transfer.

Just think it's an intriguing differential.

Stuck with Ibra over Sanchez last week, surely gotta go all out again this week?

    A) Keep Ibra and captain (go without Sanchez)
    B) Ibra + Antonio to Rashford + Sanchez (C) -4

Exactly the same position for me. A will on average yield more points. The risk for me is that I'm 30 points behind the leader in my cash mini league. If Ibra blanks and Sanchez hauls it could be 60. Not sure whether to just take a slight negative expectancy now rather than risk falling way back. At the moment I think I'll do A though

On the other side, we could catch up this week. Just worried when this happens, it usually costs heavily to go against the crowd and in hindsight always seems better to take a hit to get to the 'template'

As a Ibra & Ozil owner, happy that way this weekend. Ibra played really well on Saturday, United may be firing now, and he is absolutely prime for goals if you look at the stats (I know, pinch of salt, hypothetically etc)

Next week may be the week to alter team and lose him for Sanchez. But I'm captaining Ibra this week.

    FEED THE YAK
Its quite amusing watching all the non-Ibra owners coming in here trying convine themselves and others that Ibra is 'not the best' captaincy option or he is a 'one trick pony'

As a non owner let me tell you, he is by FAR the best captaincy option this week. Team on form, player on form, best stats in the league with goal attempts, on free kicks and pens plus central figure spearheading that attack. If thats enough they are playing Stoke who have conceded 15 goals and like second bottom. I could actually go on but feel I dont need to.

Its laughable people are disregarding him and trust me if he does well that 60% ownership will absolutely destroy us leaving us back to square one.

    Just my two cents

Agree. As a non-owner this week will be terrifying. He's by far the best captaincy choice.

Luckily I'm already around 17 points better off than I would've been if I had kept him, so a haul on his part wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world. We've just got to make our own smart captain choice.

As has been seen already this season, there are loads of players getting double figure hauls.
I agree Ibra is probably the best C option, but as long as you choose someone for captain who keeps up with (or nearly) the score Ibra gets then nobody will be 'destroyed' or be back to square one.
Any one of the players mentioned above could score more points than Ibra this weekend, we'll just have to wait and see

Non-owner. Ibra is the best pick, but I have Alexis and he isn't that far off. Combined with the value I'd have lost keeping Ibra, I'm definitely pleased with my decision. He'd have to score about 4 for me to overly disappointed.

One point of disagreement, Utd aren't in form. They've had one particularly good game.

    Plan A:
Keep Ibra - 60% owned, will continue to get goals all season

    Plan B:
Antonio, Fer, Ibra > Firmino, Mane & Rondon (keep FT this week so 2 FT's next week so only 4pts)

    Plan C:
Antonio, Fer, Ibra, Baines/Valencia > Firmino, Mane, and a 7.5 striker (Deeney, Defoe, Rondon etc) (8pt hit next week)

    1. Costa's Counsellor

    Foster / Jaku
    Vertonghen / Coleman / Holebas / Evans / Kingsley
    Sanchez / Mane / Sterling / Antonio / Snodgrass
    Kun / Lukaku / Diomande

1FT and 0.2 in the bank.
Do I save or any suggestions?

Personally prefer playing 3rd striker to 5th mid so I'd look to upgrade Diomande, but you may have to wait til next week.

Then a downgrade in midfield and try and get Austin / Rashford etc in up top.

If you had Hazard for Hull, would you:

    A) Hold him against Hull and absorb the price drop to save a transfer
    OR

Ibra is the best captaincy choice, so this week only I'd probably go with him.

    Foster

    Shaw Williams Evans

    Sanchez Firmino Antonio Capoue

    Kun Lukaku Deeney

    Sub: Pickford Kone Snoddy Amat

    1FT, 2.6ITB

    Few questions:

    1. Ditch Shaw?

    2. Get Ibra in for Lukaku? Might get 0.2 profit when Ibra price fall and some how Lukaku increase later this week?

    3. Get Son over Antonio?

What a season I'm having. Having owned all the top players and captained high scorers, it's odd how my rank is still around 500k. The answer is simple, it's not about owning the best players, it's about owning the right players at the right time and that's the luck factor in FPL.

    Sanchez' points when I owned him: 2, 3. After selling him: 16, 1, 10, 14
Ozil when owned: 2, 2. Before and after that: 8, 10
The list goes on (Foster-Heaton rotation, Antonio, Lukaku, +20pts benched in each GW 1 & 2...)

I remember Pelle was like that for me last season, he scored less in the 9 games I owned him than in 3 games after selling and before buying him back. This season seems to be filled with Pelles for me. 🙁

      1. Pariße
        • 11 Years

Not really. Everything I do is well thought, I sold Sancehz for Hazard GW2, hardly a bad move, but from then on Sanchez was better, unlike the first 2 gameweeks. I planned to get Sanchez after Chelsea (which I did, keeping De Bruyne for Swansea, which wasn't bad either, but then again Sanchez was better), Ozil was bought with the money available and sold on WC, because Sanchez is a better pick.

No harm your crying about being 500k yet anyone replies is wrong and you are right.

The right play on fixtures was to start with Hazard and based on form and fixtures sell Hazard for Sanchez.

It's turned out that has been quite profitable in terms of points too and making a bit of team value.

Really Sanchez blanked Hazard score and you crapped your bags and moved from one to the other.

Maybe listen to people's replies you might learn something.

This Sanchez/Hazard situation was more connected to the fact I needed to get Ibra over Vardy, because Leicester looked really bad, and the replies back then obviously encouraged it. Another factor was, as you said, price rises, TV is going to be important this season.

And of course Sanchez-Hazard situation isn't the only one. It's a run of such choices that has made my team struggle, although every single one of them seemed the most reasonable at the time.

                  Not upset at all.

Don't get why someone would post to say they are not doing particularly well but then disagree with every reply to say they have made all the right and logical decisions.

And if that's what your going to do I'll not reply because your a waste of my time and how will you ever improve if your are closed off to the fact that you made the wrong selections. You should be more honest with yourself. You are telling yourself you are always right when really you havent been right.

I get it, I listen a lot on this site, I've listened to a lot of suggestions here and the decisions made were helped by those replies. I only disagreed with 2 things the repliers said. It has something to do with luck in my opinion and it's not because of inexperience since I've playing this for a long time.

It's also about sticking with your picks. If you had lower team churn you'd have a much higher score.

You have been unlucky but you are also a victim of your trigger happy transfer policy.

Maybe. The GW1 and 3 decisions were pretty crucial.
I opted for Sanchez and Vardy GW 1 instead of Hazard and Ibra (mainly because of Hull being Vardy's first fixture), after getting the wrong pair and seeing Leicester aren't any good this season a logical transfer followed GW 3. I bought Hazard and Ibra, both scoring less than their predecessors.

Then there's GK rotation, only 4 CSs from goalkeepers and defenders combined this season.

Inexperience rather than luck... my inexperience is showing me that I need to stop early transfers.

Also, you don't select a player for 2 / 3 weeks... not someone like Sanchez

Not really inexperience. With no other pressing issues you tend to have the best possible players. Sanchez & Vardy > Ibra Hazard is the most reasonable transfer GW 3, it's been all about owning the wrong players at the wrong time this season for me.

Who should be my my captain this week?

    A) Ibra
    B) Sanchez

Top 2 captain going to be Sanchez in my ML. They don't own Aguero yet so he will be a differential for me. They don't own Ibra also so I guess Ibra (c).

Go Ibra, too early to worry about other teams in your league are doing as you don't know who the main contenders will be until well into the season.

If it was late in the season then I may have said San(C)hez because then you have them covered......
      2 Sanchez vs 2 Sanchez
      1 Ibra vs 0 Ibra
      1 Aguero vs 0 Aguero

No need for counter tactics yet though. Enjoy the imminent Ibra haul

Who gets dropped when Ramsey and Giroud are fully fit? How does the formation change? Any theories? Wenger has been talking up Walcott and he has been scoring, creating chances and shooting a lot. I imagine Iwobi to be the one that makes way.

Just repeating what the Arsenal fans said the other times that question was asked.

As a Walcott owner you'd be depending on a) Wenger deciding he's better off without a proper CF and b) Wenger deciding to pick Walcott over players he normally wouldn't pick him over.

If that sounds likely to you...

Will Stoke give us this years investment ISA must have?

we've had Holy Trinity a few years ago, this season gives us the ISA, especially if Ibra tears Stoke a new one.
    Ibra, Sanchez, Aguero

If so what does the rest of your team look like, those 3 eat so much budget it's very hard to get in the rest of the on form attackers without making a very cheap backline.
